AJAX VS AJAX

I didn’t realize that there are 2 manufacturers for Ajax products… I definitely learn something new every day!

Ajax is a brand of cleaning products, introduced by Colgate-Palmolive in 1947 for a powdered household and industrial cleaner. It was one of the company’s first major brands. Colgate-Palmolive Company sold the US and Canadian rights to the Ajax brand name on laundry detergents, as well as to other laundry products as Fab and Cold Power, to Phoenix Brands in 2005.

So basically, if you read the above, the Ajax Cleansers are a Colgate-Palmolive brand and the Ajax laundry detergents are a Phoenix Brand. Who knew?! Or maybe it was just me who didn’t know?! 😉

Anyway, if you missed it earlier, the reason I am writing this post is because I feel really bad. On the Upcoming Walgreens deals post (since deleted), I had stated that you could score FREE Ajax Cleansers at Walgreens by using the $1/2 ANY Ajax products (as well as other brands) regional coupon found in the 2/27 SS. Well, after reading some of your comments I realized that this coupon is actually not valid on Ajax Cleanser products since they are a Colgate-Palmolive brand and the laundry products pictured on the coupon are a Phoenix Brand. 🙁

I seriously feel really bad because I linked to purchasing those coupons on eBay and I know some of you did in fact purchase them. If you have done so, please feel free to email me (collin@hip2save(dot)com) a receipt of your order (or something showing proof) and I will be happy to send you some surprise coupons in the mail. Thanks for understanding and I sincerely apologize… I hate when I make mistakes like this.

    • JOE

no big deal here Collin, thanks for letting us know. learn something everyday who would of thought 2 manufactures. thanks for sharing all your tips, and for caring. have a great day.

  2. lilminky

Good to know. I didn’t know that, either. It was a logical assumption, though, so don’t sweat it!

  3. Brianna

What other blog can you read to find someone as genuine as this??!!!! I doubt anywhere!

    • Nadine

      Totally agree!

    • Michelle

Seriously!! Collin, you truly are the coolest!

    • Jamie

      Agreed!

  4. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Don’t feel bad. We all make mistakes. You have done a great job, helping all of us save money. I started using coupons for a month now and I always come here for tips. I am hooked! I check your website more than I do my facebook! (which is ALOT!) LOL

    • Veronica

I totally agree with Ashley. I check your site several times a day before opening email and other things. You apologizing just goes to show how REAL of a person you are. Thanks for all you do for us on here.

  5. Suszy

While we all think you’re wonderful- no one expects you to be perfect. Thanks for all you’ve taught me in the past couple of months about couponing!

  6. J

Ajax is horrible anyway. Not sure why someone needs 100 of them.

    • ricks48038

wow, somebody sounds judgmental…think in her post when she ordered 100 of them, they were for donations…

    • melissa

I do prefer Comet, but Ajax is alright in a pinch. Collin had planned to purchase 100 to donate for her upcoming Hip Tour through the devastated regions of GA & AL.

  7. mamabug

You are awesome, Collin. I love how responsible you are with couponing!

  8. misty

Please don’t feel bad! You have saved us so much money and I appreciate what you do everyday.

  9. CouponizerCarol

Oh, Collin, please don’t feel bad! That’s something any one of us could do! I never knew they were two different companies until just now when I read your post. I don’t comment often, but I read your blog and facebook page regularly, and LOVE your videos!

  10. Tee

Wow Collin, you are truly amazing 🙂 We learn from our mistakes and I think you helped all of us learn about Ajax today.

  11. kelly f

How could you possibly be beating yourself up for this?? It is the most unforeseeable mistake! I had no idea on the multiple brands and would never expect another person to either!! I’m really impressed that a few people knew and could point it out to you! But isn’t that part of how your blog community works? We all help each other figure it out – but no one imposes blame. You’re doing an AMAZING job for us all!!!

  12. Joelle

    Collin,

I had an idea the q wouldn’t work because I tried it a couple of weeks ago based on another bloggers match-up. I’m glad they didn’t just override the register when I tried to use mine. That’s what would have made ME feel bad knowing what I know now.

If there is anyone out there that doesn’t know YMMV with coupons…they’ve never couponed!!!

    You do awesome work. Thanks!!!

  13. Missie B.

Hey Collin! Please don’t feel bad about this. We are all only human and as I like to say, if this is the worst thing that happens today, then this was a good day! And since I live in Alabama, I can truly attest to that saying! 🙂

  14. Erin

That’s an easy mistake to make! I didn’t know they were 2 different companies either! Everyone makes mistakes. You’re still awesome, Collin!

  15. felicia

Honestly, it is nice to see that people who have been doing this for awhile make mistakes. I make at least two a week, not to mention I misplace coupons, just to find that they are in my hand or right in front of my face.

    • Brianna

      LMBO that cracks me up!!!!

  16. Autumn H

So I’ve just logged on for the first time today and read this post, SO I have no clue about the earlier post, but after reading this I felt a need to say: Collin you are simply amazing there is no other blog that Ive seen that would do what your willing to do, your are my go to website for matchups and deals and there is no way I could every thank you enough for all that you do! I pray that you don’t beat your self up over an honest mistake you are a fantastic person!

    • Melissa

It’s all been said, so ….ditto 🙂 Thanks, Collin- you are amazing.

  17. ricks48038

Collin, it’s a very easy mistake…I did something similar recently, tried using a Domino sugar coupon when I was picking up a Domino pizza…boy, was my face red…

(just kidding, but it shows just how good of character you have by how much this has bothered you…it’s not a big deal, and thanks for all that you do)…

  18. Anonymous

Collin – You are way too hard on yourself! None of us is perfect. I thought the exact same thing you did!

  19. Mitch

What a terrific lady you are.
No one could possbily have pieced that piece of Ajax info together, so I don’t think many people would find any fault on your end!

  20. floridalado

Wow! A store, I can’t remember which one (Wags, RA) forced that coupon through for me a few weeks ago. Who knew? I think it should be very clear on the coupon that it is not for the cleanser since this is a unique situation. What was Phoenix thinking? This is such an honest mistake. Please don’t feel bad.

  21. Mel

Wow, Collin, how would you ever have known such a thing!?! How strange. Sounds like most people DON”T know about this since so many folks were reporting stores pushing the coupon through. Your site is great–it has it all—coupons, money saving tips, humor and now, intel on mystery cleaning supply companies!! Gotta love the sites that entertain AND educate!

  22. Tia

Ajax needs to be a little clearer. You know when you see a Burlington Coat Factory commercial in parentheses it says something like “not affiliated with Burlington Industries.” These Ajax companies need to do something like that. Thanks for everything, Collin!

  23. zinkemomx2

I am really surprised that the lawyers for one company or the other did not make one of them change the name during the sale.
I think Collin, that it is a very honest mistake and I think that is awesome that you are willing to reimburse your readers who bought those coupons. I respect you even more just for that.

    • T

ditto to this! you are awesome collin!

  24. Rachel

No problem. Hee hee.. you learn something new every day, not everyday, silly 🙂 That makes two things now! 🙂

    • Collin

      😉

  25. mary

I dont understand why they have the same name…I bet theres been a bunch of confused people…oh well such is life!

  26. Robin

I use to work for Phoenix Brands. Its customer service office is Indianapolis. It is true, Phoenix is only in the laundry/dish business and not in bathroom cleaner business. This was an honest mistake Collin, no worries!

  27. Jeannie

Colin, for all the money you save all of us on here every day, you really don’t need to feel bad for an innocent, understandable mistake!! You are the best, girl!

  28. Lpmousse

You are so amazing, Collin. Don’t worry about this. It’s not a big deal- life goes on. As you say with stores, cashiers and the like- let it go and go get another fabulous deal. 🙂

  29. Kathy

We all make mistakes..Don’t beat yourself up over it. Thank you for all that you do for all of us that read you blog.

  30. Sheridan

    Colin-
No worries! I actually did hurry and snag some of the coupons on ebay, and I had no idea there were 2 different manufacturers. Thank you sooo much for all the time and work you put into helping us find a deal! You deserve to be able to make a mistake every once in a while! 🙂

  31. Alex

In life, looking at the big picture, this is a spec of sand in the sea of life. For all the good you do, one mishap, oh well life goes on. You win some and might loose one.

  32. Claudia

Collin: No worries girl!!! You do an incredible work!!!
“A man must be big enough to admit his mistakes, smart enough to profit from them, and strong enough to correct them”

  33. Jamie

Collin, you are amazing and have saved me so much money over the years. Thank you for all that you do!

  34. Brittany

Oh boy, they should really write “any ajax laundry product” on their coupon and not “any” ajax product because it’s likely to cause loads (no pun intended : ) of trouble!

  35. LG

Collin, thank you for your incredible blog! You are an amazing resource and a terrific person!

  36. lori

If you went over every single deal with a microscope, we wouldn’t get nearly all the deals you provide us. You are usually the first site to post new deals. I didn’t buy coupons BUT….would have just let it go if I had. You have saved my family so much money. You have also provided me the opportunity to be very generous with donations. I would not be able to help friends, family or donate much if it weren’t for your hard work. thank you

  37. Melissa F

Collin- you are so awesome! I hope no one blames you for a silly mistake like that and actually sends you proof of purchase.

  38. JENNIFER

Hello fellow money saving mommys!! I was wondering if any of you know of any good enfimil deals or coupons out right now!! I just had triplets 3 1/2 weeks ago and finally got the last one home today!! let the feeding begin!! We are were going through a big tub of formula every 2 days with two so now that number three is home I can only imagine what we will blast through!! Any help would be so appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Beth

Are you able to qualify for WIC? I can’t imagine having to pay for formula for 3 babies. Or, have you contacted Enfamil? I would think that maybe they would give some sort of discount for moms of multiples?

    • Shannon

Contact Enfamil’s customer service they have special programs for parents of multiples. (Most companies do like Pampers we all know thats a huge expense too) They will send out extra coupons and everything!

  39. Rachael

Collin, you are great and should not worry about an honest mistake. We are here for a heads up, not for you to make all of our decisions and you should not feel responsible b/c someone bought 100 coupons. I love your posts but I do not order coupons unless I check the deal myself and I know I wouldn’t have caught this. I would not expect you to replace my coupons, but I love that you offer.

  40. Heather W

Oh wow I would have had no idea they were two different companies! Thanks for letting us know Collin! I didn’t order any coupons either, but if I had I would not expect you to reimburse me for them! That is very kind that you offered though! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! 🙂

  41. michele

wow, who would know that ?

thank YOU Collin for all the money I’ve saved using your site 🙂

  42. Tammy

You are only human. We all make mistakes from time to time. Don’t feel bad that is how we each grow is from learning from our mistakes.

You do a wonderful job with all the posting you do.

    Have a great weekend.

  43. Mary

You are the greatest! Have a wonderful,stress-free weekend. We all LOVE you!

  44. Anne

OK, I find this really funny because in the Iliad there are two fighters for the Greek army named Ajax! Sometimes they are referred to individually and other times as “the two Ajaxes.”
