Happy Friday: Hip Shoe Rack

So my daughter has a ton of shoes and they were getting out of control. The shoe/coat closet was a mess. I went to Home Depot and bought some cull wood for $0.51 and some hooks from the dollar store to make a shoe rack. The shoes are now neat and they don’t take any room in the closet since they are hanging on two walls in the closet! This is only one side of the wall.

WOW….A “LITTLE IMELDA MARCOS” in the making!!! And YOU set up that rack Collin…I’d tell her to make her own rack if she wants that many shoes…LOL…just kidding hon!!! Handywoman/BLOG QUEEN!!! Is there anything you CANNOT do Collin???? LOL

    • Collin

      Hi Vinita!

I only wish I was that creative! Actually, the Happy Friday photos are photos that are submitted by readers so I cannot take any credit for this shoe rack. Have a great weekend! 😀

I also thought that you had done this its a neat idea I’m gonna have to borrow for my own daughter Thanks for posting

      • Vinita

Awwww Collin…I’m sorry. There was no name mentioned, so I just presumed it was your daughter!!! But I still think you are THE…COUPON…DIVA…YOU ROCK!!!!

As for the person who submitted the pic…Kudos to you on a GREAT organizational job. I only hope your daughter outgrows her shoe “thing”, before she puts you in the poorhouse..just kidding hon!!!

        • A

Thx that is my daughter’s shoe rack. She has another wall of shoes and these are the ones she wears. The ones she out grew were given to her cousin who is one year old. My daughter is only three but Loves shoes!

          • Vinita

Thanks for writing A. Only 3 and LOVES shoes (looking all googly eyed here….LOL). You better watch out hon!!! Nice to know “hand me downs” haven’t gone out of style. I have the CALLUSES to prove how many hand me downs that didn’t fit that I HAD to wear as a kid (NO KIDDING!). But times were tough and we were a BIG family. Hey at least I had shoes to wear!!! BIG BEAR HUGS TO YOUR DAUGHTER hon!!!

            • A

              Hi Vinita,
Thanks for the bear hugs 🙂
And after my daughter’s one year old cousin is done with them, they will come back to me if they are in okay condition (for my 2nd baby girl who is 5 months now)! Hand me downs are great! That’s a hip way to save. Having lots of shoes means they don’t really get worn out!
              LoL.

              Thanks y’all for the comments!

              (yes I’m from Texas)

            • Vinita

Awwwwwwwwww…..a 5 month old? How ADORABLE!!! Forgot to include YOU in the Bear Hug…and now the baby too!!! Long live hand me downs…long live H2S. We’ll put THIS baby to rest now before Collin starts “admonishing” us for writing TOMES…LOL

Take care ya’all (I’m from FL) and when I say ya’ll .I mean you ALL…your precious babies and yourself!!!

Hey…one more thing…can you make ME some shoe racks…..nah…just kidding LOL.

            • melissa

we do hand me downs too — it just makes sense! I have 4 girls and whatever is still in decent condition (no stains or holes) gets passed down. We have one pair of skechers from back in 2004 when my oldest was 2, and so far they’ve lasted thru 3 daughters and waiting for the baby to be able to fit them. They don’t make skechers like they used to. We got some for school this year and they fell apart within 3 months.

  9. sarah

from what type of tree is cull wood made? Im confused.

    • A

I am the one who submitted the photo. Cull wood is the scraps or sometimes nice wood that they cannot sell and put it in the cull bin at Home Depot and it ranges in price from $0.51 to $2.01

      • Laura

I have recently discovered the cull bin as well. I have gotten lots of wood from it (1X4’s, 2X4’s, etc). A few days ago, I picked up nice 4X6 posts (at 4″) that will work for a raised garden bed. I’m so excited. I check there every time my husband lets me 😉

        • Claudia

Where did you discovery this cull bin? Thank you

    • K

I work there. It is wood that usually has some major defect in it, it is warped, broken. Something like that. They sell it 75% off of retail

      • Claudia

Where do you find this cull bin?

        • A

It is usually near the back where they cut wood and they often add to it daily

  10. tiffany

That is soooo awesome!!! Thanks for sharing.

  11. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I looked at the picture and thought it was at a store. ha-ha I thought:”O boy, some associate had a busy night out”. When read the comment I thought:”What a good idea”.

  12. christa

    Those are some clean shoes!

    • A

You better believe it! She has so many that they are all in great condition when she hands them down to her cousin!

  13. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Fun !

  14. Katie

    Brilliant idea!

  15. Amy

Great idea! Will have to borrow this one for all the muddy shoes in my garage!

  16. Betty J

Great idea. Sure beats the overflowing crates that we have in our laundry room.

  17. Julieanne28

Neat idea! My mom needs this for her closet. I personally hate shoes.. gasp! A woman that hates shoes? Did you know those even exist? lol I am lucky to have boys & as long as they have some rubber boots & worn out tennis shoes they are set haha! Thanks for sharing A & Collin.

  18. tanyetta

    Great Idea!!!!

  19. katrina

That is such a great idea! With 5 people in the house and a husband that loves shoes, even for the kids, shoes can get a little crazy around here. I might have to steal this idea! (:

  20. Cathy BB

A, thanks for sharing this fantastic tip and Collin, thanks to you, too! I’m going to look for this cull wood bin at my Home Depot and some big hooks so next year during “coat season” things won’t be so out of control at my house!

P.S. You would all die if you saw my daughter’s shoe collection! She wears a big enough size that she gets all the hand-me-downs from ADULT relatives, so there are a TON! =)
