Happy Friday: "Hope Springs Eternal"
Our yard was flooded during the recent flooding in Memphis. We got an evacuation notice but thankfully the water recedded and we did not have to leave. This lone Petunia has bloomed in the cracked damaged soil of what was once a flower bed. I looked at it and thought of the saying “hope springs eternal”. No matter how dark the day is there is hope and the promise we will bloom again. Thank you for your wonderful web-site and the obvious care you have for helping all of us achieve our financial goals. I appreciate all your efforts.

That is so awesome!
This has probably been answered before, but I was wanting to know if you have submitted a photo before if it has to be submitted every week to be considered for the Happy Friday photo? Thanks!
Nope, you do not have to re-submit the same photo every week. We look at all of the photos that we have received (not just those that were submitted the week prior) and choose our favorite for each Happy Friday post. Thanks!
I am about 4 miles south of Memphis ( Southaven,MS) so this hits close to home. We were out of town during the worst of the storms with our toddler in the care of my grandparents here in town. We were very fortunate to only have some roof damage, but had relatives and friends who were evacuated. Thanks for sharing the pic!
Perfect sentiment to end the week!!
Love this pick and everything it represents. The strong will survive and come out all the more beautiful. Thanks for the pic!
What an awesome photo! That flower seems determined to grow, even in the worst conditions. It reminds me of something that happened when my son was about 7 or 8. He and his friend planted a bean in the front flower bed and informed me that it was going to grow. The bed was not very fertile – it got too much sun and the soil was pretty poor, so I gently told him not to be too sad if the little bean didn’t grow. He said, “But mom, we prayed to God that the bean would grow, so it will grow!” Well, lo and behold if that bean didn’t sprout, grow and produce a bean! It died shortly after that, but wow – it GREW. Oh to have the faith of a little child!
Oh Paige, how neat! Doesn’t Jesus tell us to have the faith of a child? Thanks for sharing! I must tell you, I live in northern Michigan and the past 3 years, God froze out my strawberries, I really don’t know why. This year they didn’t bloom until 2 weeks later than normal. I thought we were safe, WRONG! We got a KILLER heavy frost when they were in blossom. With very little faith I prayed asking God to protect them, please don’t take them again. It is as if He placed HIS mighty hand not only on my strawberries, but our apples and beans as well, they ALL made it through the frost and the berry plants are loaded! My kids said, “Mom, we prayed, didn’t you know God would answer?” Oh to have that kind of faith! Be blessed!
This is a beautiful picture, and a wonderful lesson to learn from it. Thanks for sending it, and thanks for posting it!
Isn’t God’s nature wonderful? Thanks for sharing.
Love it!
Thank you for reminding me to bloom right where you are planted! Gods timing is perfect! Thank you for posting this 🙂
I couldn’t have said it better! What a picture of hope and inspiration.
Thank you for sharing this!
That made my eyes well up with tears… thank you for sharing!
It says to me…..BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED…..best to everyone.
I’ve never heard that before, but I like it! Very inspirational photo and sentiment too.
amazing! 😉
Collin,
Could you possibly post the name with the location of the person who wins the photo contest each week? I would love to know more about these wonderful entries! 🙂
Love it. Needed this today.
Beautiful!
That is a wonderful Happy Friday picture and story.
what a touching picture, you picked the right one.
I love this! Thanks for sharing this with us, it is true no mater what situation you are in.
Very beautiful picture!
very nice. i was curious though…never having been in a flood, why does the soil dry and crack? you would think it would be all muddy and mushy, not cracked.
I have never been through a flood, however I’m guessing it’s the same principal as farmland when it floods – all the nice fertile topsoil washes away. Living in GA I know if my topsoil washed away I would be left with nothing but rock hard clay, which does look dry and cracked two days after it rains… part of our yard won’t sustain grass, and that is exactly what it looks like, just red 😉
This comes at a perfect time for me! We live 1/2 mile from the Missouri River that is 2 feet over flood stage and expected to get another 6′. We’re keeping a close watch on the levee protecting us right now and hoping for the best. This gives me hope everything will turn out for the best! Thanks!
