Kmart Deals: $0.40 Chinet Plates, $0.99 Schick Hydro Razors…

So, I headed to Kmart yesterday for the Double Coupon event and let me first just say ummm… high prices?! I mean, seriously, I could not believe how high some of their prices were. For example, the Reach floss was priced over $3… and at Target and Walmart the same floss goes for under $1?!

Anyway, I did end up finding a couple great deals… but I will say it took a little while to find those deals because most items were just way too expensive – even after taking into account the discount from double coupons. 🙁 Alright, so here are the deals I did find…

Chinet Casuals Plates on sale 2/$3
Use the $0.55/1 coupon found in the 4/17 SS (will deduct $1.10 when doubled)
Final cost only $0.40 per package of plates!

Nestle Candy Bars $0.67
Use the $0.50/2 coupon found in the 5/1 SS (will deduct $1 off 2 bars when doubled)
Final cost $0.17 per candy bar!

Schick Hydro 3 Razor $4.99
(Unadvertised, temporary price drop through 7/11 – *HOT* price)
Use the $4/1 coupon found in the 6/12 SS
Final cost only $0.99!
** If these aren’t marked on sale, make sure to do a price check.

Have you been to Kmart this week to take advantage of the Double Coupon event?! I’d love to hear about your shopping experience and any deals you may have scored.

wish we had kmart here, all of them closed.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

mines closed too I’m in Charlotte NC. We have a kmart but its in the westside and pineville

  2. Robin

I have 3 Kmarts here, but remember during the last sale the extremely high prices. I only go to Kmart doubles if they bump it up to $2.

Good deal on the Chinet plates. Might dig out my coupons for that deal… of course by the time I get there, that shelf will be cleared.

  3. sgrammy

I wasn’t aware they have double coupons – is it a certain day a week of just once in awhile?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Until June 25th 2011

  4. Kelly @ Coupon Kung Fu

You have a lot more patience than I do. I walked into the store briefly several weeks ago, and haven’t even considered attempting to find anything worthwhile for their double coupon sale.

  5. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I used all these coupon at HT triple coupon event last month. I got them for free but these are great deals (:

  6. Jenny

I went and priced checked at my Local Kmart this last Saturday- to see if making a stop for the double coupon event was worth it. I was EXTREMELY shocked at the high pricing. If Kmart wants to compete with Walmart or Target- they need to get on board with some discounts!!!

  7. shonda

I was there and I couldnt belive there prices wow….. I did walk out with the weber season pk. for free they has a 10 fo $10.00 deal ( so $1.00 each) I got 7 free….

  8. april

My Kmart isn’t doing the double coupons event =(

  9. DeAnna

Collin, I am soooo feeling your pain. I attempted at our Kmarts here a couple of years ago when they were doubling coupons up to $2. Yes, that’s right a $2 coupon would be worth $4!! I was so excited. I grabbed my coupon box and headed out. I was so amazed at just how high everything was priced! Suave shampoo was $4!!! Couldn’t believe it. I did leave with a few deals but not enough to make it worth the 3+ hours I spent. Not to mention checking out was horrific. Save your tiime just go to Walmart.

  10. Brittany

Thank you for posting! I was debating on a trip, because I only go when doubles are $2. The paper plates are a great deal, and might be worth the drive across town. I agree though, the prices are insanely high!

  11. susan

We went to Kmart last night too – I was so excited to buy Cologate toothbrushes for $1.50 off, but even with the doubled coupon, it is still cheaper at Walmart. But I did get a good deal on Pampers Underjams. So that made the trip a little better.

  12. Lisa

I went last year when they had the double q’s and haven’t been back. Their prices were completely ridiculous. Bodywash $6 and the same bodywash was $3.50 at Target. Also the store was so “ghetto”…dark and dirty. Not worth the trip in my opinion. You did manage to snag some deals though.

    • Trish

You are so right about the ghetto comment! We have 2 stores withing 15 minutes of us. The one is OK but the other is so dirty, dark and dingy! I actually worked at that store 12 years ago and it is depressing to see how downhill it has gone. To be honest it looks EXACTLY the same as it did 12 years ago. NOTHING is different. I did the doubles a couple years ago when they were doubling up to $2 as well but this .99 stuff is not worth it to me. Their prices on hba are ridiculous!

  13. SK

I suppose Kmart’s prices are so high because they are struggling to stay open- it must be hard to compete with Target and Walmart. The Kmarts where I live (Northern NJ) are horribly depressing places- I actually feel sad when I leave them! We never really get the double coupon deals up here, but we did once and when I went I didn’t find too many good deals. Things were too expensive and the store had a LOT of things out of stock.

  14. Nora-Lee

Is this double coupons working in Florida too?

    • fran

Click Collin’s link above for a link to participating stores.

    • Tia

It’s working in South Florida but check your store to be sure.

  15. Melissa

When businesses are run so poorly that they appear to not really be interested in doing business, I usually assume they are a money laundering front for some criminal enterprise. I really don’t know how K-Mart manages to stay in business. Their attempts to compete with their major competition, Walmart & Target, appear half-hearted.

    • rebeccafaith

Too funny! Scary part, you’re probably right! Seriously, I can’t stop laughing!

    • Toni S.

That’s a good one. I’ll have to remember & mention it if & when I go to Kmart again. I;ve always wondered how they can stay in business, their prices are outrageous and their attitude is even worse. I think the senior citizens that don’t like to fight the traffic to go to Walmart help keep our store open.

  16. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I went to KMart last night. I didn’t find ANY deals. I thought I could get at least a toothbrush or the carefree panty liners, baby wipes, etc. A toothbrush was $4.00. I walked out with buying one thing. I won’t waste my time again when they host a doubles event.

  17. Amy

I had some time to kill yesterday so I stopped by our Kmart…I killed plenty of time walking around looking for deals. I only walked out with some cheap clearanced items, 2 free tic tacs, a box of Curad bandaids for $1.39 after my 50 cent Q was doubled (we needed them), and an extremely small Sunny D container for 50 cents. I was not impressed at all! At least checking out was good this time, the guy knew his stuff – first time for that at our Kmart.

  18. Jennifer

I also did not find anything and was shocked at the prices!!

    • Jennifer

… and not to mention when I called my Kmart said they were not participating in the event until I said I saw something online and she was like “ok then… blah blah blah” (explaining the “rules”). Shady….

  19. Charlene F

How do you know if your store doubles?

  20. Megan

Does anyone know if they double the BOGO coupons for like Dog food to make them both free? Also do they offer price matching for other stores sales? If they do then maybe I will go, but it sounds like its not really worth the time unless you find clearance deals. Hope others have better luck.

    • shannon

      They don’t double b1g1 coupons

    • Sarah

In my experience from the $2 double days if the item was under the amount they are doubling the coupon would automatically deduct the price of the item then double. Like if the dog food was $.79 the register would take of 79 cents twice so you would get both free. I haven’t been in over a year though so they could have changed their registers but I think it’s worth a try if you’re going anyway.

    • Heather W.

I got Whiskas Trays and the Pedigree cans and yes they doubled. I got 2 free with the BOGO coupons.

  21. Carol_R

How they stay in business I don’t know. I haven’t been in one in probably over 10 or more years. Back then they were dirty, depressing places to shop. Most closed near to where I lived back then.

Their prices sound as high these days as the drugstores which are super high. I consider them a competitor of Walmart & Target & their prices should be comparable if they want customers.

  22. stacia

I haven’t got yet, but thought I would this morning, just to check it out.
At least there aren’t stupid rules like “spending $25 before coupons” and “only 5 will double”. It does suck that it is only up to 99 cents. Why not just go that extra cent and make it a dollar! 🙂
During the last doubles event (when they doubled up to $2) I was buying Kibbles and Bits (on sale for $10 with a $2 coupon that doubled) and then either 4 Gillette bodywashes or 4 Tampax (both also with $2 coupons that doubled). That was the best way to get to $25 and it was stuff we needed and worth it.

  23. Mandy

I thought they would only double the coupons up to 99 cents?

    • Tia

It is only up to $.99

    • Kristen

The value of the coupon can be up to .99 and it will still double.

    • Christy

They have done events in the past where they doubled coupons that were up to $2. Then I was able to get some good deals.

  24. Laura

I go into Kmart every once in a while but rarely buy anything that normally has coupons out. I don’t buy their HBA items because they are so expensive. So unless they have a really good deal I don’t even go to that side of the store. I have found quite a few good deals on kids cloths and shoes though.

  25. kristy

I have noticed that the prices here tend to be higher than Walmart or Target. The only types of things I will by from Kmart are clearance holiday items (there is always a ton left at the 50% off or the 80% off since no one shops there.) I will also buy clearance clothes or night clothes boxers underwear things like that. I have walked out with some REALLY awesome deals on clothing like $2 shirts all the time!

  26. Jenny

I agree! My frugal self limited me while walking through last night! Plus, I didn’t realize how few food items they carried! Ugh!!
I dis great on Gerber snacks with my $.65/2 Q’s from their mailers. Crawler snacks were on sale 2/$4 – $1.30 = $1.35 each! Yogurt melts were 2/$5 still good deal after q!
Also snagged free bandaids, ivory soap bars and tictacs

    • Tia

My daughter wouldn’t eat those yogurt snacks. I decided to taste one and thought they were terrible!

      • Beth

Haha! I love them and so do my girls.

  27. daniel.brunk@ymail.com

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one that thought their prices were outrageous!
    Thanks for the tips!

  28. deb

My Kmart isn’t participating. I’m kinda glad, b/c I remember the prices being so high that even when they did double up to $2, it wasn’t a good deal.

  29. Robyn

I went yesterday and picked up some nature valley granola bars $1.50 after dbl coupon ( not sure if this is a good deal), 2 Suddenly Salads for $1 after dbl, Gluden’s mustard for $1.25 after dbl, and the Weber Marinades for .50 each. On clearance I found a big box of Cheerio’s for $1 (june 29 exp. but we eat them fast) and some silicone that I needed for my classroom on clearance for .50 cents. My total was just under $7. I am not sure if this is a good deal as I am new to couponing…but I am learning!

    • Lisa

You are off to a good start! These are decent deals and if you are happy with them that’s what counts. Finding your own deals is a good thing and you will find more and will save more. You paid outlet prices this time, but next time watch out, you will do even better! Keep on working on it! Happy Saving Money!

  30. Nicolle

I too was suprised at the prices, had not been to K-mart in years. Ours used to be dirty and ghetto, but then Wal-mart came to town. They have since cleaned it up and it’s usually not very busy (good for me, bad for them). I completly refuse to shop at Wal-mart becuase of the people, I’d rather pay a few cents more at Target and feel safe while shopping. I did find some deals at K-mart that made it worth while. Ceral was $2.50 a box and I had some $.70 Q’s that doubled, so I was pretty pleased with $1.10 a box. I also found Kotex pantilers for $1.39 and used the $1.50/2 coupon from 5/15 SS, so even though it didn’t double it paid for one box atleast. Also found peelies on Johnson & Johnson baby products and used my .50 for the double, so got 2 for $4. All in all in wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t great either.

    • Trish

Why wouldn’t you feel safe shopping at Walmart? Is it in a bad part of town or are you afraid of the employees/customers?

      • Nicolle

It’s not in the best part of town, and it attracts all the losers. I live in the California Bay-area and usually Wal-marts are not nice places to shop. The one in the next town over has had gang shooting out front. The one in my town just always seems to have to the rudest/ low class people, and that’s their choice to be that way. But I prefer not hear some mother call her 5 yr old a “punk ass bitch” or cut in front of me in line. Just my choice, not worth the few pennies saved. I have heard that Wal-marts in more rural areas are nice though. I’ll have to check it out one day.

  31. ketsy

I bought Snuggle 50 oz priced at 3.19 for 1.69 after 0.75 coupon doubled. Not exactly free but I checked walmart and it runs above 4 dollars. Other than that very high prices… I tries looking at floss, bandaid, aluminum foil and even mouth wash… nope. So just that free tictacs, Carmex for 50 cents after doubling their 35cents internet coupon.(Target has it for 99c so it would have been 64 after coupon). Cashier rang up items and did not double, supervisor came over and told me they were doubled and I told her no and after her arguing I told her you know I’m going to paybut if there’s something wrong, I will be at member services in a minute. Lo and behold over 30 minutes for the supervisor and then the manager to figure out how to refund coupons and rering everything up… for six items really…Never again. I’ll stick to Kmart when they have clothing sale and shoes for kids, other than that no thanks.

    • Toni S.

I’ve had the very same problem. After almost an hour of trying to figure out what do, they didn’t even say they were sorry for the long wait. They just acted like they were upset with me for causing the problem. I kept my cool and was nice throughout the whole ordeal. When it was over I asked if I could borrow a pair of scissors. I cut up the rewards card and handed It to them. I know it probably pleased them, but it made me feel better. I’ve only been back to the store twice in over a year and not with coupons.

  32. Kele

Our Kmart is just dirty and so unorganized that it makes you feel so tense even trying ot find anything there. We drive past that store no matter what the deal is.

  33. CyndiG

I always feel things at kmart is priced way too high so I was not overly excited about them doubling coupons. I usually go there for clothes sometimes, clearance items and the chicken when its on sale for .99 cents a pound. Yesterday chicken was on sale so I got some of that and i needed cilantro for a recipe so i picked some of that up but their produce is always overpriced.

    • Latasha

Your KMart sells produce? Is it like a super store with the grocery store attached?

      • CyndiG

yes it is a super kmart and has a section for food, produce and meat.

  34. becky

A special coupon I found in store buy 1 capri sun @ 2.99 there was a coupon to get it free if you spend 25$. Also the hamburger helper & betty crocker scalloped potatoes 10/10$, i had 50cents/2 potatoes and it was dbld, i had 75cents/3 ham helper which was also dbld, so not too bad of a deal.

  35. Michelle

    what happened to the werther’s?

  36. Mary

I agree that prices are too high at Kmart regularly, but I did find some good deals. The customer service/cashier was also VERY nice and helpful. I had emailed Kmart ahead of time with coupon questions. They replied within a few hours and clearly explained the rules. I am quite pleased with Kmart : )
    Here are my finds
    https://www.shortlittlemama.com/2011/06/kmart-shopping-6202011.html

  37. Racheal

My husband works at KMart lol. At the one he works at, people have to drive 20 + minutes to reach a Wal-Mart and even more for Target, so they can stay open. The prices are a little lower in the area (but this is also a pretty low-economic spot in the country). Curtains, bedding, grills and stuff like that run the same as other places, but drugstore-like items are too much. He says that his store’s number one seller is pet food.

  38. Lonnie

I believe if you find any deals at K-Mart, you most certainly earned them. I have not shopped at K-Mart for years.

  39. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Our Kmart let us double coupons up to $1.00. Checking out was horrible but got some great deals! Got $194.45 worth of stuff( mostly groceries) for $52.68. Did pass on a lot due to high prices though!

  40. Jen

My KMart had their Johnson and Johnson baby products on sale 15 ounce bottles for $3. I used the my coupons for $.50 and got them for $2 bucks each. Not amazing given that I found them for $3 at Wal-Mart which would’ve made them $2.50. But hey fifty cents is fifty cents!

  41. Simon

I agree with you on the prices at Kmart. I did the double coupon event one time and have not done it since because the prices after the doubled coupons are usually the same as anywhere else, sometimes more. Another thing that disappointed me is that the Kmart never had the things that I wanted to buy. The one near me is not a Superstore so they have a very little grocery area. It’s not even worth the time and hassle to go there.

  42. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh how I miss the days of $2 double coupons. I haven’t shopped for certain items for over 2yrs from those days. I do agree it is like a scavenger hunt when looking for deals because prices are so high at Kmart. I have found that you really have to check dates on any food/candy item that you buy. I always come across items that are expired or on the verge of expiration. I always thought that a store could not sell items that are past the coded date on a package.

    • Carol_R

The only expiration date that really matters legally is the one for milk. All others are just for the customer’s convenience. I found that out during a new magazine show (I can’t remember if it was Dateline or 60 Minutes) on TV some years back.

  43. Pam

Thank you so much for posting that Chinet deal! I went to my Kmart and the shelf tag said 3.79, but I scanned it and sure enough it came up 2/3.00! Great find! Especially for me: a mom with no dishwasher and 4 kids!!

  44. AshleyH

I used to work at K-mart back in the day (when they were going bankrupt). I’ll tell you that was miserable having to explain to customers how to read the ads. There’s a lot of fine print. Yes, K-mart has high prices, but they have some of the best clearance deals I have ever seen. My mother brought home $20 air filters for $1.99 each.To really win the war on Kmart is to sign up for their reward programs (it’s like a loyalty card). We only shop clearance and get our meds there. You earn points for your purchases that turns into cash (you have to tell the cashier, and punch in the pin number on your card). It’s a good attempt to bring together what target and cvs offers. It’s a new program, so it’s going to take some time to crack the code.

    • Toni S.

I had a negative balance on my rewards card. It took points away when I used coupon, taking more away than what I saved. I Had no luck getting it straightened out. They admitted that I was not the only one with this problem.

  45. Elissa Jones

So I went through and cut a whole bunch of coupons for this event, mostly food items.. and when I went to Kmart, they only had a few of the items I had coupons for, and even then, they were WAY over priced! wasnt even worth it! i ended up just leaving without anything. What a waste of time. I was so excited to finally be able to double coupons too!! I suggest only going if you have a SUPER kmart in your area. I called and there are no SUPER K’s in Las Vegas area.. they all shut down.

  46. Toni S.

I haven’t even been tempted to go. I told my husband their prices are so high & I could do better elsewhere without a coupon. Even if I did find an item or two, it would take at least 3o minutes (likely longer) to checkout. The registers always freeze up during double coupons and often there are problems with the doubling. The little bit I might save just isn’t worth the time and definitely not worth the aggravation (I don’t want to be in a bad mood for the rest of the day).

  47. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I stopped by Kmart and saw no signs for the double coupon event, but they were participating. I picked up four Nestle Crunch bars for free (on sale for $0.67) with the $0.35 coupon that was available previously on coupons.com. I also found that the Betty Crocker Super Moist cake mixes were on sale for $1.00 and the rainbow chip frosting was on sale for $1.67. I used the $0.75/2 coupon (good on a cake mix and frosting). With the doubling, I paid $1.17 for a cake mix and frosting – not bad!

  48. rebecacha

Thanks for this post! I had separated all my favorite less than $1 coupon and I was getting ready to go this afternoon but I think I am going to save me the hassle! Unfortunately now I have to put the coupons back to where they belong 🙁 I thought KMart was very cheap although I never shop there…

  49. lisa

My experience with KMart was that in the last sale I had awesome coupons for .75 cents off any Coca Cola product when you buy a king Size Candy. Both were on sale for $1.00 and they were running a promo for buy 10 of Vitamin Waters (a Coke Product according to Cokes website) and get an instant $5.00. So, if you do the math when the coupon doubles and you add in the $5.00 instant savings both the candy and water would be free. They denied that Vitamin Water was Coke (stated they just destributed it), then accepted the coupons after I complained (10 were used in conjunction with the sale). The next day I went to use my remaining 10 and they said I could only use 5 (yes I know the 4 of any one item rule but I did not buy more than 4 of the same item as I mixed up the candy and the coke products to meet this rule). I asked why and they gave me a millon excuses and then stated my usage was excessive. How is 10 on a 10/$10.00 sale when the ad states unlimited excessive? I think it just made them mad that I was getting the items for free under the quidelines of their promo. Anyway, kinda left a bad taste about KMart and the double promo but if you want some deals the Duncan Hines can be picked up for free (they have a box for under a buck and the coupon online was for .50 cents. You can also get some very cheap condiments with all the coupons out there right now from Frenches, Tabassaco Sauce and Franks Red Hot Sauce (buy the smallest bottle). Not much to brag about as the prices are sky high but I will get the plates as that will be worth the trip (I need them right now too).

  50. Bradleykymom

I just got back from K-mart and was extremely hesitant about going because like most of you, the prices there are ridiculously high. Today I did great. I picked up the following for $22.51.
11 pack of Chinet plates (36 in each for donation to school & church)
4 pair of girls’ flip flops (on sale for $2.99-$1 off)
4 boxes of Suddenly Salad Pasta (50 cents after .50/2 coupon)
2 bottles of Sally Hansen nail product (free after 50 cents & $2.00 off coupons w/overage)
4 packs of Tic Tac mints (free after 75 cents off coupon)
2 bottles of Hunt’s ketchup (50 cents after .25 cents off coupon)
2 Rimmel glosses (44 cents after clearance price & $1 off coupon)
2 value sized Carmex lip balm (50 cents each. Normally $2.99, but on sale for $1.20 and used 35 cents off coupon).
Thanks Collin for letting me know!
