My total came to $5.95 (which includes tax) for all 18 items! Not too shabby!

So, I headed to Kmart yesterday for the Double Coupon event and once again I noticed lots of high prices?! Anyway, I did end up finding a couple great deals… but I will say it took a little while to find those deals because most items were just way too expensive – even after taking into account the discount from double coupons. 🙁 Alright, so here are the deals I did find (some of these deals I mentioned in the Kmart deals post here)…

Twizzlers 12-16 oz 2/$4
Use the $0.75/1 coupon found in the 6/26 SS (Value may be lower in your region)
(Coupon will deduct $0.75 and then the doubled amount will deduct another $0.75)

Pedigree Canned Dog Food (13.2 oz) $0.79

(Coupon will deduct $0.79 and then the doubled amount will be another $0.79)

I just refuse to shop at Kmart. I did notice the last time I was in there that the prices seemed higher. My issue with them is the advertise stuff they do no actually have in stock. Our local Kmart is also not the cleanest or friendliest either.

  2. Stacey

Does anyone else think its funny that things are “TOO EXPENSIVE” at Kmart?!?!?!

    • Alea

I’ve always felt like Kmart was too expensive for grocery and beauty items.

  3. Mimi

i went to my local Kmart yesterday and at check out they said the doubling of coupons was not this week. The computer wouldnt double them up. i was pretty dissapointed. 🙁

    • momtosix

They told me my store wasn’t doing it either but it did when they rang me up.

  4. Amber

🙂 Wish I had a dog. HUH! Glad I don’t find it that necessary to subject myself to the nasty associates at KMart. 🙂 I’ll stick to Rite Aid and a trip to Wal Mart now and then. Enjoy the double coupons!!

    • Heather

you can always buy the pedigree and donate it to an animal shelter! 🙂

  5. Christy Lighthouse

I have a few of the Pedigree coupons so I might try it. I’ve never heard of a BOGO coupon doubling though.

    • Collin

Yep… sure does (as long as the double amount is under $0.99). 🙂

      • Christy Lighthouse

        Awesome!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Darn I was at farm fresh yesterday for double coupons & I had a buy 2 get 1 free soy joy bar coupon, but I wasn’t sure if it would double. They were 99 cents each, would that then make 2 free with the coupon? Might try this next week because the coupon doesn’t expire until september 🙂

      • ali

        Collin,
The whiskas BOGO free coupon from the 7/24 RP (up to $0.69) also doubles, in case someone wants cat food instead of dog food. There was also an internet printable for the BOGO free coupon, too. They were on sale at my Kmart store for $0.50 this week and I had 8 coupons, so I got 16 free trays of cat food! (in 2 separate transactions, since they limit 4 like coupons per transaction.) We don’t have a cat either, but I always stock up on cat food and treats when they are free and give them to my neighbor in exchange for some occasional babysitting. 🙂 I LOVE to barter with people using stuff I got free with coupons!!

      • Belle

Hey Collin or anyone who knows…:)
When you say as long as under $0.99, does that mean at any store that doubles and the price of the dog food is under $0.99 it will double?
Or is that only at Kmart specifically?

Has anyone had luck with using the B1G1 at another chain and it doubling making both free?

        • Collin

I’m not sure… but it definitely works at Kmart! 🙂

        • Shayla

depends on the store but my local grociers do not double free coupons; this is actually the first I heard of store that does.

      • Elaine

I did not know that. Crazy…well I’ll have to remember that for next time.

  6. Bee

Is it bad that when I hear of a Kmart event, I just don’t pay any attention?

We have only a few Kmarts left in this area, and for some reason, it depresses me to shop there. It seems like while the store is clean, they don’t have real deals, they don’t have current/modern merchandise and it seems like no one else is shopping there. I just don’t enjoy the “aura” and while I love to save a buck, sometimes I just need to enjoy it as well.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Bee, I think you could be describing our Kmart (in Elkhart, Indiana). It’s like a barren wasteland in there. lol

There are rarely any other shoppers, the prices are a little high, and there are hardly ever any employees working. If you need help finding something you can just forget it. I remember being little and loving Kmart, but not these days!

    • MommySpendsLess

I actually miss Kmart for exactly that reason! At my old job, I had a mandatory hour long lunch break and there was a Kmart less than 5 minutes away, but no Targets or Walmarts for miles. I would wander around Kmart in the summer when it was too hot to sit in the park and I used to find the best clearance deals precisely because nobody else shopped there!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Bee – I feel the exact same way. I think you must be describing virtually every KMart I’ve ever been in. I feel so out of place there, and I find myself taken back by the high prices. It’s so ironic t think I don’t shop at KMart because the prices are too high???? In general, I simply ignore the posts about KMart, unless it’s for something I really need and it’s a really great deal. I can’t believe they’re still in business, though.

  7. Jayna

I was able to find a few good deals but it did take some time searching the store. I was still happy with my trip. 🙂

  8. Heather S

They certainly do advertise items that they don’t even carry or that are not in stock. I steer clear of them most of the time,(especially Black Friday! They are a HOT mess!) but you can’t beat their summer clothes for kids and babies. All the swimwear is on clearance, and I got a rashguard & two piece swimsuit set (size 6/6X) for my daughter for next year. It was marked $19.99 and rang up for about $7! I also found a super cute floppy straw hat for $4! They also have kids shorts/tanks for around $1.50 each.

    • Laurie

Speaking of Black Friday, I found THE toy in their ad and just took it to Walmart and price matched. 😉 That was awesome!! And no nasty sales people at Kmart and no freezing cold line (though I’d give just about anything to stand in that right now! LOL).

My Kmart has been horribly depressing since I was about 12. I haven’t stepped foot in there in yeeeeeeeeeears…and I’m happy to say that. ;D

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yeah!! I’m not the only one that price matches on Black Friday. If you all think you get dirty looks for whipping out a pile of coupons, try price matching on Black Friday. If looks could kill…… But it definitely beats going to 10 different stores!

  9. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I went to Kmart last night and had some very friendly and helpful associates but yes, very high prices. They did not have of the cottenelle in stock though 🙁 . I might have to head back to get the pedigree and the twizzlers, I didnt see that deal. I also found that Dove shampoo on conditioner was priced at 3.49. I have a 0.75 coupon that doubled so I would of paid $2 per bottle. On the shelf they had posted that if you purchase 2 bottles of Dove then you instantly get $2 off your ticket, making each bottle only $1. Did a little happy dance because I love Dove.

  10. Kirsten

Just FYI anyone that lives in the Provo, UT area….The Walmart here is “price matching” the double coupons that KMart is doing. They will double the coupon up to 1.99 like KMart. You just need to ask the cashier in the price match/double coupon lane. Our Walmart has been double couponing up to a dollar to “Price Match” Ridley’s Market on Tuesday but because Kmart doing it this week they will do it all week.

    • Missie

Wow! I wonder if our WalMarts are doing that here in Huntsville, AL. Although they are not great to shop at either, they are better than Kmart. They still give me grief on my coupons that have overage. But. I hate going to our KMart even more. It is way on the other end of town and they never had what I would go there for. Haven’t been there in forever.

    • me

There isn’t a Walmart in Provo?? you mean Walmart on Orem, University Parkway?

      • Kirsten

Yep, that is the one I meant. The Orem Provo. It is so close to the Provo/Orem border and I live in Provo so I refer to it wrong a lot. Sorry.

  11. Michelle

I went in for some SUPER CHEAP Cottonelle toilet paper (that was worth the trip alone) and some free tic tacs and some cheap Suddenly Salad mixes, etc….I never shop at Kmart, and I dont like their stores or their prices but this was the first time I have ever gotten a great deal! 🙂 Yaaayyy!

  12. cecilia

just got back from Kmart and again I wonder why I even bother, chinet wasnt on sale, beggin strips werent bogo…. got the loreal kids and the shave cream, they also of course didnt have the small capn crunch which is prob just as well.
Its always dissapointing going there….I love the “aura’ I get at target! no other store can compare

  13. Jen G

I’m new to couponing, so forgive me! No stores where I live double, so this is even newer to me, but I have a K-Mart, and the pet food is too good of a deal to pass up! My question is, if I have a coupon for say, $1.50 off something, do they still double it up to $0.99? (making it essentially $2.49 off) or is any coupon over $1 not worth using? Thanks so much for the help!!!

    • Jen G

I called my local K-Mart and got the answer to my question, and that was no, any coupon over $0.99 isn’t doubled. So unless it’s an amazing deal (which I’m guessing I won’t really find) it won’t be worth using my $1 or more coupons! But I will still be going for the pet foods!

  14. Erin

I tried to buy Edge shave gel using a $1 Kmart (store) Q and the $.55 MQ from Coupons.com (doubled). The MQ beeped and the cashier refused to take it saying that KMart doesn’t allow you to use a store Q with an MQ. I seriously doubt the accuracy of that statement and think that the coupon must have beeped since it would have created overage ($1.99 – $1 SQ – $1.10 MQ doubled = $.11 profit). I told her to void the Edge and it was a real ordeal requiring manager override, etc. Wow, what a pain. I did get the Cottonelle deal and some decent clearance deals, though. 🙂

    • JESSICA C.

THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH ME AND THE EDGE SHAVING CREAM, BUT I RETRIED IT AND HAD THEM SCAN THE KMART COUPON FIRST, THEN THE MQ AND IT WORKED FINE. BUT IT WAS LIMITED TO ONE COUPON PER CARD.

  15. Kim T

I’ve already said this on the actual post that was made about the $0.75 off a Colgate Kid’s toothbrush, but I think it’s worth saying again =]

I was able to score 2 ‘Go, Diego, Go!’ toothbrushes for my son for $0.09 each… They weren’t marked clearance, in fact they were marked 2 different (rather high, might I add) prices, but I checked at the price scanner anyway and some of them came up $1.59! After the coupon they were super cheap! This was at a Southern Virginia store, so I’m not sure if the same toothbrushes would be clearance somewhere else, but if you were able to print those coupons, and you’re going anyway, it’s worth checking out, right?!

  16. athena

I stopped by k-mart during lunch today to check out their toy clearance and I hit the jackpot. They had a huge selection of already marked down toys for an additoinal 50% off. I stocked up on baby toys.

  17. Lynne Wright

KMart is definitely a treasure hunt store, but I found some fabulous bargains this week even though our store was not doubling. For $138. I filled a shopping cart full of clearance toys that were 50% off the clearance price You cannot beat .49 My Little Pony and .99 Pet Shop Pets. Our Target had the same Pet Shop Pets for $4.50 clearance price and Walmart the same.

  18. stacia

I got Bugles and Chex Mix for 50 cents. They are on sale for $1.50 each, then a 50 cents coupon doubled made them 50 cents.

  19. autum

Bought three pack of 12 cottonnelle bath tissue but did not get the catalina.

  20. Melinda

    Dear collin,
I never understood the meaning of double/ triple coupon meaning. For example, last week I bought a healthy snack bar which cost 1.49. I had a 50 cents off coupon. I scanned my coupon once and it took off 50 cents. I asked the clerk if i should scan it again for the doubling to take effect. She stood there and looked like I was from mars. “the coupon says 50 cents so u get 50 cents.” My next shopping trip the cs told me the store doubles. How does doubling/trippling suppose to work?

    • lauraleone

Some stores have double/triple coupon days or in the case of Kmart it is a double coupon week. The cashier scans the coupons the same as always but the register automatically takes off twice (or three times) the amount stated on the coupon. For this promotion at Kmart the limit of the coupon is $.99. So if you give them a $.75 coupon it will take off $1.50. However if you give them a $1 coupon it will still take only $1 off because it is over the limit. Make sense?

    • Collin

      Hi Melinda,

Lots of stores do not double coupons at all… so you’ll definitely want to check with your local store to see if they do in fact double. And if so (at least at Kmart), the cashier only has to scan the manufacturer’s coupon once and it will automatically double. 🙂

  21. Beth Cravens

    Huggies wipes 64 ct. 2/$5 with $.50 q doubled= $1.50
    Deep Woods Off $3.99 with $.75 q doubled=$2.49
    Refills for Off clip $4.49 with $.55 q doubled=$3.39

  22. Melinda

Thanks guys. At least I understand how the doubling works now. 🙂

  23. Mike

    Here’s a doozie of a story:
The Kmarts in So.Cal have not updated their scanners for the New Long Barcodes like on the Whiskas coupons. Took 10 minutes to find someone who knew how to manually enter, and then when the screen pops up with the items I tried to tell them they need to choose 2 (for the BOGO). They chose 1, and it only took off 50 cents. They voided it, and did it again, and this time they chose 2, and it took off 50 cents twice (once for the double). Then, they argued that I couldn’t get them for free, and called the store manager. He says their store is not participating in the Double Coupon promo because he did not know about it. I tried to show them that it was working by showing them the Cottonelle Receipt from an earlier purchase, but then the CS Manager said since the “store manager said” we are not participating, then I can’t purchase the Whiskas, if it’s going to be Free….. Their store is on the list as a participating store, but I did not have the printout with me.

    • yangzi

      What a pain!

  24. Tracy

I actually did pretty good at K-mart yesterday, but it was a long drawn out fiasco. Luckily the manager there was nice. The cashier was a hot mess, and the manager ended up voiding the transaction and doing it again. The catalina didn’t print out for me either, so the manager gave me a gift card, and she added .50 for the inconvenience! All in all, I walked out spending about $16.00 for 3 packages of cottonelle, 4 cans of dog food, a package of Huggies diapers, and a shave cream. Not too bad. I agree with most of the other posters though, there is just something yucky about K-mart. I’m actually amazed that Sears hasn’t shut them down. Quite frankly, they should just shut them down if they have to keep the prices that high to make it. And who’s paying those prices anyway?

  25. Julieanne28

We are lucky our Kmart is pretty clean, well stocked, & has informed staff. I had a good shopping trip yesterday. I purchased:
    8 cans alpo dog food
    3 cottonelle toilet paper
    1 scott paper towels
4 bags herrs chips (sigh hubby was with me & these are his favorite)
    1 air craft carrier toy
    2 skinmate cream shaves
I paid 19.00 out of pocket and received 4.50 catalina for the cottenelle. I did use $12 in rewards that I had accumulated with my shopping card.
