Ok couponing buddies…Give me some feedback on Redbox. We currently have Netflix and are contemplating dropping it at the end of this month and just going to Redbox when we want to rent a movie (since there’s a kiosk just a few blocks from our house).
Do they have the new releases? or does it take awhile before those show up in the kiosks? (like Netflix has a deal with some companies to wait 30 days after they’re released before they can be rented)
What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for your help!

As far as I know video stores (the ones that are still in business) get new releases a few weeks before Redbox does, so pretty much is the same as Netflix when it comes to new movies.

I had netflix for over a year, and I just cancelled it this month (due to the fact they doubled their prices, and extra for blu-ray). The last few months of Netflix they just had really old movies (movies that aren’t even classics just old and weird hehehe) on instant stream, and they didn’t get all the new releases to be sent to your house on dvd. I almost always got redbox new releases and didn’t need Netflix for it. I say just cancel your Netflix account, because you get to see the new movies on RedBox. Our city also has a dollar theater, and they have movies that were released a month earlier in the movie theater…which is GREAT! I only miss one thing from Netflix….getting shows. I don’t have HBO or SHOWTIME and love TruBlood, Dexter, and Weeds….so that was pretty sad. I have to figure out how to watch those shows now, but thats the only bad side that I can think of since I cancelled my Netflix.

I’m cancelling my Netflix too, thanks to the price increase… although I am keeping the Netflix streaming (I think it’s only 6.99/month) since they have a HUGE selection of kids shows. Like the PP said, the only I’ll miss is the HBO and Starz series (although some of them are streaming). But with the price increase, I’m actually better off just buying the series at the store, rather than paying the ridiculous amount that Netflix will be charging in September. Red Box does take a few weeks for new releases to come out, but it’s no worse than Netflix wait time.

Thanks guys for your input! I think I’m going to ditch Netflix and go the Redbox route. Thanks, Netflix for raising your prices to give me that final push to get rid of you! 😉
