Wow!  As of today, CVS just released a brand new corporate coupon policy!  I highly recommend printing this policy off and placing it in your coupon binder in case you run in to any issues while shopping.

Here are a few of the highlights of this policy…

*CVS/pharmacy does not accept expired coupons.
*Coupons and their face value cannot be exchanged for cash or gift cards.
*Competitor coupons are not accepted at CVS/pharmacy.
*CVS/pharmacy does not accept coupons for items not carried in our stores.
*CVS/pharmacy does not currently accept coupon bar code images displayed on a smartphone, iPhone, Droid etc.
*The total value of the coupons may not exceed the value of the transaction.

Sale Items:

*CVS/pharmacy will accept manufacturer coupons for an item that is on sale.
*CVS/pharmacy will not accept percent off coupons for sale and promotional items.
*In the event that any item’s price is less than the value of the coupon, CVS/pharmacy will accept the coupon only to the price of the item.  CVS/pharmacy does not provide cash back in exchange for any coupons.

Multiple Coupons:

*CVS/pharmacy accepts one third-party manufacturer coupon and applicable CVS/pharmacy coupon(s) for the purchase of a single item, unless prohibited by either coupon offer.
*The number of third-party manufacturer coupons used in a transaction may not exceed the number of items in the transaction.
*The coupon amount will be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied. (For example, a $5.00 coupon for a $4.99 item will result in a $4.99 coupon value).
*CVS/pharmacy accepts multiple identical coupons for multiple qualifying items as long as there is sufficient stock to satisfy other customers, unless a limit is specified. Management reserves the right to limit the quantity of items purchased.
*CVS/pharmacy reserves the right to process coupons in any order.

Internet/Print at Home Coupons:

*CVS/pharmacy accepts valid internet/print at home coupons containing a barcode.
*CVS/pharmacy will not accept reproductions or rebates.

Let us know what you think of this new CVS coupon policy! On a side note, I am personally disappointed that this policy does not address the use of 2 coupons with a Buy 1 Get 1 Free Sale or using a Buy 1 Get 1 Free coupon in conjunction with a Buy 1 Get 1 Free Sale. Hopefully, this issue will be formally addressed in their policy soon… fingers crossed!

(Thanks, Corpus Christi Coupon Queens and Naomi!)

    yay! finally lol

  2. ketsy

At least we have something in writing. They way I see it, until the BOGO issue is addressed, continue what we’ve been doing. It’s not against their policy unless they note it.

    • ketsy

By the way. the only thing I see that affects is the no cash value because it doesnt allow for overage to go towards other purchases, but not like it happens all the time anyhow.

  3. kanasmom1

I think it is stupid because everyone else accepts competitor coupons but them. Other places also let you use more than one coupon on the same item. I think it will cost them business.

    • Krystal

Who do you shop at that allows competitor coupons? Because I haven’t found many.
And I believe you misunderstood….you can use 1 manufacturer coupon and store coupon(s) for the item…please tell me where you have seen a retailer allow multiple manufactuer coupons on a single item.

      • kanasmom1

At my local Payless let you do that. My local Walgreens, Walmart, and Payless let you use competitor coupons.

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Walgreens does not allow competitor coupons. I called corporate and they stated they do not allow competitor coupons. Your store should not be allowing that.

        • tambry

Publix, Food Lion and some auto repair chains are the ones in my area that accept competitor’s STORE coupons.

        • yangzi

Walmart is the only place I heard accepts competitors coupons for groceries. Other stores that accept competitors coupons are Office stores, Joann Fabrics and Bed, Bath and Beyond, I think.

          • jessica

Not Walmart anymore, they will only price match!

        • Caitlin

Walmart is not supposed to allow competitor coupons unless it’s for a set price (like the Walgreen’s coupons for 39 cent tuna, etc.). Their coupon policy explicitly states that they only accept competitor coupons for a set price, not a dollar off amount. If your store is allowing this, they are not following their corporate policy.

      • Lisa

Only Publix. Not Walmart, and especially not Walgreens!

        • yangzi

Yes, Walmart accepts competitors coupons according to their coupon policy:

          “Competitors’ coupons

A specific item for a specified price, for example, $2.99
Buy one, get one free (BOGO) coupons for items with a specified price
          Have a valid expiration date
Are acceptable in black and white”

          https://walmartstores.com/7655.aspx

          • chris

IMO, that is just a way of price matching. They do not allow cents off coupons from competitors, only ones that list thier competitor’s prices.

    • Yvonne Bush

where I live hardly anyone excepts competitors coupons. I think Wal mart does. I work at Fred Meyer and we do accept other stores catalina coupons as long as they say manufacture coupon on them and are not for a specific store brand. You cannot use more then one mfg coupon for an item anywhere as that is considered fraud. I think all coupons say one coupon per purchase and the BOGO coupons say for items specified which means you cannot use another coupon because the coupon is linked to both items you are buying. I think some stores will let you use another coupon with a BOGO but I know most of the stores here do not.

    • Tricia

My CVS won’t even take a coupon that has another store’s name on it even if it clearly states that it is a manufacturer’s coupon. Coupon states “Available at Walgreens” . They would rather I go to Walgreens to use this manufacturer’s coupon? Doesn’t make sense to me.

      • Tia

That’s why I love Publix. They are extremely coupon friendly, take competitors store coupons and take 2 coupons on a B1G1 Free. And everyone is very friendly.

        • Tricia

          Don’t have publix here. 🙁

      • Caitlin

Wow, my CVS never has an issue with my using coupons with store logos on them. If it were meant to be used only at a specific store, it would say so, don’t ya think?! I’m happy my CVS is very coupon friendly! 🙂

  4. cynthia

wow…no more pharmacy competitor coupons..bummer! My CVS accepts all competitor coupons and thats just a decidion they have made alone for their store. Will have to see if that changes.

    Thanks for the info

    • Lisa

Yeah, I just used a competitor coupon about two weeks ago to get a new prescription filled. Guess that was the last of that. 🙁

    • Krystal

I can see why they do that though, people abuse that big time. Transfer to CVS, then next transfer to Rite Aid then transfer to Walgreens then to Walmart than to Target then wherever and then repeat the cycle doing nothing but getting gift cards that are more than the cost of their prescription!

  5. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh shoot! They don’t accept coupons for items not carried in the store. I really wanted to use my Victoria Secrets free panty coupon there! How dumb is that?!

    • Alicia

      lol

    • Tracy

      NO KIDDING!

    • rose

ROFLMAOAPMP!!! Thanks; I really needed the laugh!

    • dropofrain

      🙂

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hahaha, yeah!!! My VS store is too far away, so CVS was the perfect place to go for them, well, they just lost one more customer lol.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

LOL! I wish you could thumbs up a comment!!!

    • Collin

      LOL 😉

    • Gil

Well, my goodness, we all need to drop Corporate a line addressing this issue. Imagine-no Victorias Secret Q’s permitted. And I wanted to use mine on WM’s cheap, trashy (and looks it) panties.

      • Patti

nothing like being able to shop for g-string and sweats with wording across my 40+ backside while waiting for my birth control prescription

    • Krystal

This did make me laugh, I think they could have worded this better,
I get what they’re saying but it’s a weird way of putting it.

      • kidsallgone

OK….read (past tense) all the comments above and LMAO; then read them again and LMAO again!

  6. Carol_R

I guess I don’t understand one part of this policy.

“CVS/pharmacy will not accept percent off coupons for sale and promotional items.”

Exactly how does that affect us? The only time I’ve seen percent off coupons were CVS coupons and they explicitly said that they did not apply to sale or promotional items so is this any different from their existing policy?

Also, while they explicity state that they don’t do overage, I’m wondering if unofficially they still will unless they are manually entering the coupons if you are buying something else to cover the overage.

    • Krystal

I guess they’re just making it very clear to the people that don’t read the fine print in those percent off coupons.

    • Denise

This might be referring to the CVS email coupons that we get sometimes. The email coupon from CVS will say “20% off your entire order”, but says on the bottom that it cannot be used on sale items.

  7. Charlotte

*CVS/pharmacy does not accept expired coupons. = bummer

My local CVS accepted them… And I have an expired $3 off ECB that I found that I was planning to use this weekend. Ohwell… 🙁

    • Krystal

Check with your store anyway, store coupons are a little different than manufacturer coupons.

    • Kim

I think that might mean expired manufacturer coupons. I’ve been told by every cvs in my area that they will take expired cvs coupons and ecbs as long as you redeem them within the week they expired. So if one expired on a Sunday, you had until Saturday to redeem.

    • jessica

Corporate policies might not have gone in effect in all the stores, it takes a while before the word gets around and the stores enforce it. Try now before it may be too late!

    • Nicole

I had an $11 ECB that had expired both of my cvs wouldn’t take it

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Try another store to use those expired extra bucks. I frequently go to 2 CVS stores. One is right by work and then other by my home. They both have benefits that are different from each other. If they offer a free item from the from the CVS “magic machine” and run out of the item, only my work store substitutes. However if you want to use a newly expired coupon then it has to be my home store. Go figure why at a chain store they differ but each store seems to have its own personality just like a person. The trick is figuring out the personality and and appreciating the differences.

  8. Jen C

    Thanks for the heads-up! 🙂

  9. Lisa

It doesn’t really say what they will do with expired store coupons and ECB. Right now, my CVS will accept them no matter how expired they are.

    • Lisa

Lucky you! The CVS stores in my area stopped allowing expired ECB’s about a year ago.

  10. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Collin, we can’t use an expired ecb anymore 🙁

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      ??

  11. teshia

    Well I guess it is what it is. Just wandering not wanting to start a big fuss but, is it me or does it seem that things have changed so much since the whole ” Extreme Coupon” show started? When I first saw it advertise I told my husband that’s a bad thing. I even got removed from another site for expressing my opinion on how crazy and over the top it was. TLC picked the unrealistic ones and gave them there 15 mins of fame. Thanks again Collin for all that you do. I have said this before I coupon to save money so I can stay at home with my 3yr old little girl {back to work next year when she starts school:(}

    • Krystal

I agree with you completely that things changed once that show started. I see the difference when I go shopping too after that show started, it’s insane, half the time I can’t get the one or two items I want because someone is in there finding a way to wipe out the shelves.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Lol i agree, i went to acme today an hour after they opened and some lady had filled 2 carts full of all the hamburger helper that was free with coupons this week. Then another posted on a site i belong to about how she was donating to charity….someone replied that they thought it would be more charitable to leave some on the shelves for other families and maybe get the ones you are donating at the end of the week when everyone else has had a shot at the deal. Totally agree with her! People get hundreds of one item because they see it done that way on tv, but in reality you can build up enough for your family by getting just a few sale items a week. Thats why i love collin and hip2save for teaching that!

        • Krystal

That post you saw was 100% right! There’s nothing wrong with donating, but I don’t think it’s right that immediately after the sale comes out for the shelves to wiped clean. I mean heck, if at the end of the week you want to donate, get a raincheck if they offer it. There are some people that may not even have the coupon and want the item.

          • fran

Ohhh yeah i know right! The one lady who was most upset was not even a couponer and had no idea they were free after coupons, she had just been excited to get them for 50cents a box! Everyone is struggling and looking for deals, not just couponers!

  12. Krystal

Yeah I wish they’d address the BOGO coupon/deals.

  13. sunnysky

are expired ebs the same as “expired coupons” (ie manufatured ones)? many of my stores do not take expired ebs since forever, but one store still does when i checked this week. does cvs differentiate the types of coupons?

  14. muser

None of this is new, but I’m glad to have it in writing, especially this part:

*The number of third-party manufacturer coupons used in a transaction may not exceed the number of items in the transaction.”

I.e., you can’t use a manu $ off with a manu BOGO. So that finally squashes that debate, with cvs anyway. 😉

    • Jodi

I don’t know if that is true. Let’s say you are buying 2 Olay items. You have a $1 off moisturizer q and a BOGO q for body wash wyb moisturizer. You have 2 coupons and 2 items. You are still not exceeding the number of coupons vs. items.

      • brandyhill

I agree! I was about to say the same thing. I think it’s just gonna be personal preference with some people. On BOGO q’s it doesn’t say you have to pay full price for the item you’re buying to get the free item so I don’t see anything wrong with using two coupons in that instance.

    • yangzi

I don’t understand what you meant. You are buying 2 items for BOGO and using 2 coupons which does not exceed the number of items you are buying.

      • Christie

In my opinion, when an item is BOGO…I have always felt it was wrong to try to use 2 manufacture coupons when they are giving you one free. I can see why companies may not be reimbursing the stores…You shouldn’t get money off an item when it is free.

Example: An item is $2.00 and is BOGO. The first one is scanned at $2.00 and the second one is scanned$ 0.00. Common sense IMHO is that you should only be able to use 1 – .50 coupon because the other scanned $0.00. Nothing can be deducted when it is free as it would create the customer to receive an overage which is now in writing is against policy!

Also, I have seen people using a BOGO MQ and a cents off coupon…I have never done this as IMHO…it should be one or the other..as most coupons say that they cannot be combined with other offers…Be honest with yourselves..Do you really think the manufacture intends for a customer to be given a free item and then additionally discount the item they should be paying for….It doesn’t make sense.

I agree with BOGO sale and BOGO coupon cancelling each other out..however due to abuse on other things, I would not be surprised if it is added to this policy as not allowed.

It also doesn’t address coupons on clearance items which I have went round and round with them on at the store level..but up to this point corporate has agreed with me that they can be used, but due to abuse..I hope that doesn’t change.

Companies have lost billions and are finally going to put their foot down.

        • Krystal

          Very well put.

          • Christie

Awww thanks Krystal…You made my day! 🙂 I have been couponing for years and truly try to research and play by the rules. If I can help others as I know there are a lot of newbies who want to know….I am more than glad to assist.

One more thing that may help others:

I was in Rite AId before they re-did their policy and a lady was trying to use a MQ with a target logo on it. The shift supervisor was telling her that NO she could not use it but did not explain why. I am a regular in the store and asked the shift if she minded me explaining. She allowed me to “teach” the reason RA doesn’t accept target logo MQ is when you see that, Target and the manufacture have worked up a special agreement with that coupon….If RA accepted it with the target logo.RA would NOT be reimbursed by the manufacture on that coupon. The same applies with CVS…Hopefully you know the why they do not accept them and you will understand “the method behind the madness”! 🙂

        • guest24

Christie, In Oklahoma…. The stores ring up (say, potato chips) twice (two bags), then they tax each bag. Then at the end, they take the coupon (BOGO) and deduct the price of one of the potato chips. So, there are 2 items that go in , both are taxed, and one item (not the tax) is removed. Another reason, my friend hasn’t “jumped in” on the coupon deals, like we do in Texas.

          • guest24

Sorry, this went in on the wrong reply…… I meant for it to reply to the BOGO comment. Sorry.

        • MySweetLoves

          Christie,
I agree with you about manufacture coupons that are BOGO and additionally not stacking a cents off coupon with a BOGO coupon. The manufacturer intends for us to buy one of thier products and pay full price for the other.
However, in concern to CVS (and Walgreens for that matter), when they advertise a BOGO promotion, CVS raises their price point on the “paid for” products. So much so that it does not make sense to buy the products with only one coupon.
For instance, just a few weeks ago CVS had a BOGO promo on Wisk.
Buy one Wisk for $8.97 (wow!), get the second free. We had a $2 off coupon, making the deal work out to $3.98 for each Wisk if we could only use one coupon.
Well, in my area (S. TX), Wisk is $4.98 at HEB & Walmart. Meaning that I could buy 2 Wisks for $2.98 each w/ my $2 off manf cpn. I would have paid $1 more for each Wisk at CVS!

This is the reason I believe CVS has allowed 2 coupons on their BOGOs ~ they cushion their price so they don’t lose out. I’ve noticed this with every BOGO promo ~ the price of the item is raised to almost double what I would pay in the grocery store.
They are still making money on both products but passing on a “better than grocery store” savings in order to get us to come in to CVS.
In your example of the $2.00 off BOGO with 2 $.50 manf. cpns, we are still paying $1.00, thus not bringing down the whole promo below zero. I know you were just throwing out a number there 🙂 and I totally get that when you deduct the $.50 from the “free” product that it does make it essentially “less than free”. But CVS views this as a whole deal ~ not a single product ~ on thier registers (and in their bottom line).
Christie ~ I want to make your day too! and I’m am not trying to blast you for your opinion at all. If we were talking grocery store prices and bogo promos, I’d be right there with ya girl.
But in concern to CVS (and WAGS), it simply does not make sense in most instances to shop their BOGO sales if you can’t use 2 coupons on thier outrageous top dollar prices.
          ~ Tara

          • MySweetLoves

ouch! my numbers are off on the Wisk deal ~ it would have been $3.48 each at CVS after 1 $2 off coupon. Meaning that I would be paying about $.50 less for the same product at grocery store price, not a dollar less. sorry.

  15. stacy

    what does this mean

*Coupons and their face value cannot be exchanged for cash or gift cards.

    • LovinMyCOupons

maybe when you try to cash in a coupon for a previous purchase. Stores used to allow that and just give cash back or a store gift card.

      • Tricia

My local Target still does this. I forgot to use a coupon with my purchase so I walked over to customer service gave her my receipt and the coupon and she gave me cash back. It is always worth a try.

        • Cathy BB

Yep, my Target did, too. I forgot two BIG coupons (what was I thinking???) so went over to customer service. They were really nice about it and gave me cash for the coupons I forgot – BUT they did say it’s only allowed the same day as the transaction.

          • Tia

this is certainly a tricky one. If it means they won’t give me $.75 if I forget to use a coupon, then I really need to pay better attention! I feel there is so much going on at CVS: cvs card, bag tag, ECB’s and coupons. I’ve often gotten the money back at CVS and Walmart and Publix if I forgot to use a coupon with no problems.

            • stacy

then ill just return everything and do my order over…

    • yangzi

I thought they were talking about overage from coupons. Like you are buying a $2.00 item with a coupon value up to $4.00, so Walmart will give you $2.00 cash back?

    • Kathie M

Maybe this is talking about ECB? Depending on my store some would allow me to buy gift cards with my ECB and others would not. I’m guessing now that it’s in writing I can’t do this anymore.

      • Krystal

This should have never been allowed, wether they let you do it or not. The EB (ExtraBuck) states at the bottom “Excludes prescriptions, alcohol, GIFT CARDS, lottery, money orders, postage stamps, pre-paid cards and tobacco products”

  16. K71

Pretty much the same…but would love a little more detail on their BOGO policy, also..So I will wait with baited breath until then…Thanks for the update, Collin!

  17. April

“*CVS/pharmacy will accept manufacturer coupons for an item that is on sale.

I don’t like that! My CVS let me use a mq on any item in the store…clearance, sale and regular items 🙁

    • LovinMyCOupons

I think you read that wrong. It says WILL ACCEPT.

    • Amanda M.

Read it again. It says they WILL accept coupons for items on sale. I thought the same thing, aka I won’t be shopping there anymore. I didn’t catch that it didn’t have a not until the 3rd time I looked at it. lol

      • April

oh wow! What a dork I am! LOL!!! Whew! ok I am better now lol

        • Amanda M.

Haha You are NOT a dork!! I seriously thought the same thing and was thinking that was the dumbest thing in the whole world. :o)

  18. Jenny Garner

I thinkk the rules are fine and fair but they need to get with the times and accept coupons from your iPhone, etc. Printing an individual coupon is just a waste of paper.

    • Krystal

There are far too many way to commit coupon fraud if done like that. It would be good if they got with it like some grocery stores where you can add coupons onto your card, that would be cool.

  19. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

The 2 local CVS stores in my area will take expired ECB if it is the week after they expire, but not after. I wonder if this will change? Has anyone heard?

  20. Julie

Whats the big deal about the BOGO and using coupons? I think its an awesome way to get more money off the items.

  21. Mom22

Oh no! ” *CVS/pharmacy reserves the right to process coupons in any order.” Wonder what that will mean for me.

I agree about the Extreme Couponing show being a negative… people have stopped me when they see my binder and ask about the show. I think there is a misconception that most of us are couponing to that level.

    – I’m just a mom trying to save money for family’s needs AND donate items to our food pantry. There are extremes in every group and unfortunately the focus is currently on couponers.

    • Jamie

I agree. I had a cashier say to me “I’m just not that kind of person!” I was doing a completely legitimate deal!! I don’t know what type of person she thinks I am – – -but I don’t think I am!!! LOL!!!

  22. tyr888

    so… has anything changed?

  23. kelli

I am just really glad we FINALLY have something in writing to go from! Still some things left out (BOGO, etc) but at least we have something now!

  24. Ronni

    Did I read this correctly?!?!

*****CVS/pharmacy will not accept percent off coupons for sale and promotional items.*****

So does that mean I can not use coupons at all on stuff they have on sale or in the circular or towards gas and ecb items??

    • Kathie M

It says “percent off coupons.” I don’t ever get “percent off coupons” so this doesn’t really bother me any. All my coupons have a dollar value on them and it says in the policy that copons can be used on sale items:)

    • Tia

These coupons usually get emailed to you. Example, 20% off your entire purchase…the 20% will not get applied to anything you buy that is on sale.

  25. tennismom

If you have a coupon that you cut out of Sunday’s paper but it has a store logo on it, is that a manufacturer coupon or a competitor coupon?

    • Kathryn

Normally the coupon will say “Manufacturer’s Coupon” on it if it is a Man. Q. If it has the store logo & says “Manu… ” then it is a Man. Q. Otherwise, assume it is a store coupon.

      • melissa

I just emailed Collin a link to cvs FAQ page, and it covers more info than the above coupon policy. According to the FAQ page,
“CVS/pharmacy will not accept third party manufacturers’ coupons with another retailer’s logo.”
So no matter if its a manuf q with a remit address, they won’t take it at all 🙁

  26. Allyson

Here is my question. Since they price adjust the manufacturer coupon (say a $5 Manufacturer Q for a $4.49item) do they submit it as $5 to the clearinghouse? Since they are saying no overage. How closely do the clearinghouses look at the price adjustmet on the coupons? I thought they couldn’t be adjusted unless it said up to a specified amount (that has a box to fill in the price) for that particular item. How does this work.

    • Lola

This also bugs me with coupon policies because they still get the full amount of the coupon back plus the handling fees but the consumers do not.

      • Allyson

Exactly, I think it is criminal for them to accept face value for the coupon at the coupon clearinghouse if they made a price adjustment for the consumer. Also, I didn’t think they were allowed to do so. But I have not investigated nor do I know where to even begin.

        • well

could ask the CIC about it

        • Krystal

But do you think it right for them to pay you 51 cents if you only bought that one item?

as long at there are other products in my transaction, then yes, I should get the full amount towards my order, just like WM applies overage. I’m not looking to get change back from a coupon, I just want the full value applied period. Not fair for the store to get reimbursed $1 when my coupon was adj down to .99.

    • Dawn

Stores don’t submit how much they price adjusted the coupon down to. The store is reimbursed the full amount of the coupon. The store is double dipping and I think it’s bordering on criminal. The store gives us less than the full value of the coupon and yet they are reimbursed the FULL face value. How can that not be fraud?

  27. Rhonda

I’ve never really understood this one:
*CVS/pharmacy does not accept coupons for items not carried in our stores.

    • melissa

b/c you have some unethical couponers that let coupons slip through for products CVS doesn’t sell and the store looses out on reimbursement.
I remember last summer, there was a high value IP for some pizza, ppl were using the coupon at Target on a different type/size pizza, a pizza Target didn’t even sell, so stores that took the q, never got reimbursed.

    • s

I think this comes into play with generic products and store brands. A store may issue a coupon for their store brand bread….CVS also has it’s own store brand of products. You can’t use a coupon for any brand that CVS does not carry

  28. lmwynn

One of my biggest questions has been about using coupons on clearance items. I’ve been told by several stores, and their managers, that coupons are not accepted for clearance and that it’s store policy and so on. Other stores let me use coupons on clearance all day and never say a word! Just wondering if anyone knows if they have addressed this or not.

  29. shannon

my cvs takes expired cvs coupons (from the machine, email, etc) and expired ecb’s. i wonder if they will stop now. i guess i better check to see if i have any that need used up then!

I have a question, at CVS they have Wisk b1g1 Free can I use my (2) $2.00 off Wisk coupons on both? Even if the other one is free??… Thanks! 🙂

    • melissa

not according to another board. They posted the FAQ page from CVS.com and it says –
Coupons cannot be applied to a “free” item.

      • kidsallgone

OK so the way I see it, the BOGO coupon says: If you buy this one Wisk, your BOGO coupon will be for the free item. So now you have another bottle that you are paying full price for, so you can use your $2 off coupon on that one. Is that the way most people understand it? Or am I completely off on this one? Thanks for any replies/explanations 🙂

        • melissa

If the store is having a Buy 1 Get 1 Free SALE, then according to the new policy, you can only use (1) cents off coupon on the priced item (2nd item rings in at $0.00)

If you have a BOGO Free coupon, many people used to piggyback a cents off coupon on the item they are ‘buying’, b/c the GO attached to the Free item. However, many q’s are changing their wording to not allow the piggyback, by stating ‘cannot be combined with any other offer’ or something like that. OR, the BOGO coupon attaches to BOTH items and a cents off will get kicked out of the system.

IMHO, I would forget about piggybacking (I stopped doing it shortly after Collin did a post/video on it). I get great deals as it is, so not being able to use a .50 off here and there isn’t a deal killer for me.

Here’s a question for CVS: When I printed a coupon out of the magic coupon machine, the item the coupon was for was out of stock. It continued to be out of stock at both of our CVSs until the coupon had expired. I was told at one store that the expired coupon would be accepted when the item was back in stock and they would treat it as a raincheck. The other CVS said they couldn’t do that. Could that sort of scenario be addressed in the coupon policy?

    • melissa

it is! according to the FAQ page –

What if I have a CVS/pharmacy coupon for the raincheck item?
      A. The raincheck will extend the CVS/pharmacy coupon expiration date. Both the CVS/pharmacy coupon and raincheck must be presented at time of purchase. The raincheck will be attached to the CVS/pharmacy coupon by store personnel.
      ——
So according to this, as long as you have a RC for the item that is OOS and have the CVS coupon attached to the RC you’re good to go!

  32. Amy

Excited about this! CVS stores near me haven’t accepted internet printables for several months now. I wonder if this inclusion to the policy will change anything.

  33. Kathy

Just wondering since I reread the whole thing after reading comments.

They refer to themselves in each line as CVS/pharmacy. Does this really refer to the pharmacy or just CVS?

Wonder if they gooffed and really mean they won’t accept competitors coupons generally BUT will accept them at the pharmacy.

    Hoping.

    • wigglewomb

I think CVS is offically named “CVS/pharmacy” but commonly referred to as CVS, that’s why they used that term in each line.

    • Kimberly

OOOOh me too!! We have a TON of perscriptions at my house – especially in the winter / cold season and I can’t fathom not being able to use a competitors coupon to move my perscriptions around! I’m hoping that part doesn’t change either!!!

    • Krystal

wigglewomb is correct, the company is named “CVS/Pharmacy”, everyone refers to it as CVS. The policies go for the entire store, pharmacy included.

  34. vicneedscoffee

    TY for the info.

  35. Patti

I have not shopped in CVS in 4 months and I loved getting the great deals to send boxes to troops overseas and local hunger center. My problem happened the register when my 2nd manufacturers coupon for shampoo “bleeped”. It was a “brick” coupon and each coupon had different code in the upper RH corner. The manager came over and told me coupons that bleep are not accepted even though I pointed out the difference in numbers. She told me this was a new policy that was emailed to the store.

There was a line building behind me and I had already moved away from the cashier. I went online and couldn’t find this new updated bleep policy. It would be interesting to know if anyone else has come across this issue.

    • Carol_R

I believe that it’s at their discretion to accept a coupon that beeps.

  36. Ginger

when I used the skittles MQ coupons with the Bogo cvs CRT q 1 skittle rang at 4.29 and the other at 1.71, the CVS q automatically took off 4.29 which is the buy 1 price… The cashier actually tried to change the cvs q to be 2.00 off instead ( I am assuming his intention.. half of the 2/6.00 sale price minus-1.00mq).! when I questioned it he said that it was because I used the 1off mq… and that they weren’t going to give me the “double dip” and give me the discount twice! I asked very nicely if this was a new policy and he tried to tell me it was always that way and that we extreme couponers (ooh 2 bags of skittles, better call that hoarding show..) were doing things we shouldn’t and because of this no one will be allowing stacking anymore.. Then he said instead of arguing with me he would just give me the dollar and changed it to 3.00. (I never argued, I barely spoke) What a meanie! The day before the nice cashier just let the coupon do what it wanted giving me the 4.29 and both my MQ’s and not a word was said..

  37. Mandy

    Collin,
I work for CVS. I was wanting to add my perspective on using a B1G1 coupon and a “regular” coupon for the original item. I have noticed that as long as you use the “regular” coupon FIRST, then use the B1G1 coupon last they go through just fine. Example: last month when there was a B1G1 gillette bodywash coupon in the July P&G and also a $2 off coupon in the August P&G, I used the $2 coupon first and then the B1G1 coupon and it went through with no beeps or allowable amount exceeded. Just a thought…. 🙂 Hope this works for you as well!!
    Mandy 🙂

    • melissa

that is the way I learned too… however Collin did a video a while back saying she wouldn’t be posting deals like that anymore. I’m not saying its right or wrong, to each their own though if they choose to piggyback.

  38. Joy

    Diggin’ it.

  39. adlovesmw23

I just want to say I work at a pharmacy as a cashier and I have to deal with couponers everyday. Most of them are nice. I know that alot of company’s are changing their coupon policies and my job is to follow that policy. Please be nice to the cashier behind the counter when we are following that policy because we could lose our job if we don’t. I understand if the cashier is being hateful. That’s one thing. But I had a customer the other day telling me what the coupon policy was at my store when I know what it is. I had it with me at my register. I’m sorry I’m not losing my job over a coupon. We read the coupon policy to her and I was right. I had to call my manager to the register because she was ranting and raving about nivea bodywash!! So please be nice to the cashier. She or he is just doing their job.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I have found that most cashiers do not have a clue on the coupon policy in their store so I raise my hat to you. I am confused by this as I would assume that just like a carpenter would need to know how to use tools a cashier would also need to know policy in order to handle transactions. It is like they just shoot out inaccurate information in hopes that if they say it with enough authority, it will pass as real knowledge. How many times have you heard “only one coupon per purchase”? It is so commonly confused with only one coupon per transaction it is scary. No, I am not trying to use 2 coupons on one item; I am trying to use 2 coupons on two items in one transaction. I figure when I hear this if the person is so clueless that they can not tell the difference between an item and a transaction then the rest of what they may have to say looses credibility with me.

  40. Mary J

i would like to see “if you return an item where you earned ECB, you will lose your ECB.” There’s a lady at my CVS who buys all kinds of stuff to get ECBs and then returns it all! She gets to keep the ECBs! Maybe I’m just too ethical, but I don’t think that’s right.

  41. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I just called my CVS in Maryland and the pharmacy manager said that she hadn’t heard of any changes to their policy and that they are still accepting competitor coupons! Gotta transfer today..lol!

  42. Tina in east Texas

It doesn’t look to me like much has changed at all with this ‘new policy.’ I am thankful my local CVS here in Atlanta, Texas is coupon (and couponER) friendly so far. They have also begun saving all their near-end-date groceries to give to my church’s food pantry… often when I go to the store, one of the cashiers will call me over to show me a shopping cart they filled to give to me.

  43. Dawnelle Jackson

I tried stacking a cvs coupon with a manufactor coupon for the colgate optic white toothpaste and they would only accept one. This happened to me last week with the skinmate shaving cream deal as well. Are they correct about this?

    • ann

no your cvs is wrong. i happened to have trouble last week with the skinmate deal, as i also was using 2 coupons. ( on 1 skinmate) 1 manufacture and 1 from cvs site. they gave me a hard time, telling me i couldn’t use both coupons on 1 skinmate shaving cream.
after going back and forth, they let it go thru. manager gave the ok.
i went home and called corporate at cvs, and they told me i was doing nothing wrong, that they do except 1 maufacture and 1 cvs on any 1 item.
i have one particular male cashier that always gives me a hard time when i cash out with him at cvs. i just got tired of it. the guy knows nothing about cvs’s coupon policy and he tries to derail my transactions. i always stick by my guns. these people need to get a clue, they think they know it all, when they don’t.
i follow all policy coupons procedures, but the cashiers don’t. it a war with them cvs, walgreen’s, target every time i set foot in these store.
heck last week a male cashier at target, after i hand him my coupons says “we don’t take manufacture coupons only target coupons”
really i said when did this come about? he then took all my coupons.
it’s enough to give me a migraine.
it seems the couponers know more then the cashiers.
honestly it’s the stores fault for not teaching the cashiers their policy.
you have no idea how many times i hear from the cashier say to me ” i didn’t know that”

      • Maricela

It’s not only the cashiers more then once at target walgreens and CVS I have gone through the problems of dealing with shift supervisors and managers that don’t know the coupon policy. Even when presented with a recent printed copy they still deny it and the transaction making me feel absolutely horrible because then all the cashiers and customers just give me dirty looks . One store manager didnt know the difference between a purchase and a transaction and my husband and i keep finding ourselves getting frustrated and putting things back. The last time I was in target was the kicker it took us an hour at the cash register and we ended up walking out empty handed. the manager did not budge after giving her the coupon policy that i had checked and printed that same day she insisted i was wrong and that the coupon policy had changed. It was truly dissappointing & I havent been shopping since.
