WARNING: Reading the deal scenario below may cause your head to swirl and may cause you to utter “HUH?!” uncontrollably. Please proceed at your own risk! 😉

Before I share this *HOT* deal for ya, please note that the deal scenario below is quite confusing but should make for a sweet deal if you follow the steps exactly. I have not personally purchased the items, so I cannot share my own experience with you; I am simply sharing deal scenarios that I created based on several emails that I received from readers along with info collected from the Toys R Us Weekly Ad. OK, now on to the deal which shows how you can snag The Lion King Diamond Edition Combo Pack and Dumbo DVD/Blu-ray Combo Pack for a very hip price!

Step 1 (Reserving The Lion King)

Head to your local Toys R Us Store and reserve a copy of Disney’s The Lion King Diamond Edition Combo Pack for $5. By reserving your copy, you will instantly save $8 off any Disney Blu-ray priced at $19.99 or higher.

Step 2  (Purchase Disney Blu-ray priced at $19.99+)

* Consider purchasing Disney’s Dumbo DVD/Blu-ray Combo Pack on sale for $19.99 through September 24th.
* Use the $5/1 coupon found here
* Instantly save $8 on your purchase since you reserved The Lion King in Step #1
* Pay $6.99 for Dumbo + $5 to reserve The Lion King
IMPORTANT: Step 1 + Step 2 must occur in the same transaction!

Step 3 (Pick up The Lion King on October 4th)

* Head back to your local Toys R Us Store beginning October 4th to pick up The Lion King for $29.99
* Reserve your copy of Cars 2 4-Disc Combo Pack for $5 (this movie will be released on November 1st) and you’ll instantly save $10 off any Disney Blu-ray priced at $19.99 or higher
* Use the $5/1 Lion King coupon found in every Subway Kids Meal
* Pay $5 to reserve Cars 2 + pay $9.99 for The Lion King (after you deduct $5 reserve fee that you paid in Step #2, $5 Subway coupon and the $10 instant savings after reserving Cars)

Total Out of Pocket Costs: $5 (reserve fee for Lion King) + $6.99 (for Dumbo) + $5 (reserve fee for Cars 2) + $9.99 (remaining payment for Lion King) = $26.98 for 2 Disney Blu-ray DVD/Combo Packs + $5 Cars 2 Reserve fee!!!! 😀

Step 4 (Pick up Cars 2 4-Disc Combo Pack on November 1st)

* By the time that you pick up Cars 2 in November, there will likely be both a coupon available to save on your purchase PLUS Toys R Us will likely be offering up another promo when you reserve a copy of another Disney movie and so the savings continue….

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please check with your local store about the Cars 2 4-Disc Combo Pack Reserve promo where you instantly save $10 off any Disney Blu-ray priced at $19.99 or higher when you reserve your copy of Cars 2 for $5. I spoke with a local store representative who stated this promo would be taking place; however, she was not sure of the start date of the promo. In Step #3, I make the assumption that the Cars 2 Reserve Promo will be available on October 4th when you pick up your copy of The Lion King. However, this may not be the case so please keep this in mind. 😀

** If you are a fan of Wholly products, then you may want to take advantage of the $5 Mail-In Rebate valid when you purchase any Wholly product AND Disney’s The Lion King Diamond Edition (thanks, Rachael!)

I am sure it is a good deal for those who want to buy it.

I am not planning to buy them BUT THANKS FOR SHARING. It sure was fun reading it 😉

  2. Ap

LOL…I do not think I need the movie that bad 😉

  3. sarah

Isn’t this like the toy story/tinkerbell ones last year??? I remember doing something crazy. The only plus was that last year i was 10 mins away vs 30 now.

  4. aesha

not planning on getting this but fun to read and hope its as fun for the buyers 🙂

  5. Priscilla

I’m in! lol with 2 Disney movie loving kiddos these will make great stocking stuffers 🙂

  6. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I totally remember doing all this last year with the toy story ones! It ended up working out great!

  7. Gayle

I did the deal at target this week with the Dumbo and Spooky buddies movies. I was able to purchase a few other things and walk out with everything for $32 which I thought was good considering the movies alone were priced at $22.99 a piece.

  8. Michelle

my toys r us will not accept manuf coupons 🙁

    • Patti

that is sooo odd….the cashiers oogle about where I get the manufacturers coupon and how much I save. I’ve done this with halloween candy, games, and movies.

  9. kidsallgone

    HOLY SHMOLEY!! LMAO!!
Wayyyy tooooo much for this old brain!!
Much luck to others jumping in on this deal!
I was just thinking about the other day when I mentioned to my (85 yr old) mother that she should do some crossword puzzles or read some books (etc) to keep her brain cell active. What I should have said was to read some of hip2save’s scenarios! LOL!

  10. Priscilla

Even if you just go buy Dumbo, which I MUST….you will only pay $11.99 for the DVD/blu ray combo ($6.99 +$5 Lion King pre sale) the same DVD blu ray combo is $22.99 at Target which ends up being $17.99 AC so you are still getting an awesome deal on Dumbo even if you decide not to go back to pick up Lion King!

    Just a thought 😉

    • Roger

Best Buy will price match, AND has a FREE Dumbo plush offer.

  11. nicole bennett

ok.. i am dizzy now, lol

  12. JANE123

you lost me at WARNING: Reading the deal scenario below may cause your head to swirl and may cause you to utter “HUH?!” uncontrollably. Please proceed at your own risk! 😉

  17. Marcee

I’ve been waiting to see a deal like this for these movies!! Great for Christmas with 5 Disney lovin’ kiddos!! Thanks for putting this together 🙂

  18. kelley

Great deal! Thanks for posting and separating it out for us

  19. Bev

I remember doing a deal like this last year. It worked out perfectly and made for some very cheap Christmas gifts. All things worth doing take time and effort! 🙂

  20. al-momma

Hilarious! I’m actually planning on purchasing all of the movies you mentioned! BUT, the nearest Toys R Us is 45 min away:( Thanks for the laughs though!

  21. patti

    hahahahaha….huh?

  22. mary

Anyone know if the deal is also going on at Babies-R-Us (it’s much closer to me than TRU)?

    • sarah

they don’t usually get the presale options at my store. You can call and check but i think they just get the movies on release dates.

      • mary

        I appreciate the response, sarah!

  23. Kris

I don’t like to Preorder movies in case a better deal is out at the time the movie is out. I price matched dumbo (toys r us ad) at target and got spooky buddies. It was 24.98 for both blue rays using coupons out for each video plus the $8 for buying both movies.

  24. Tiffany@frivolouslyfrugal.blogspot.com

Wow!! Head….exploding….now!! LOL! I might have to re-read this, but I think I’m going to do it!!!

  25. Amanda C

I had trouble with this a couple times. Once the BluRay fell under the $19.99 price with the coupon I no longer qualified for the $10 off. A big thing to note if you “Reserve a copy” at ToysRus that doesn’t mean they are holding it for you. I’ve gone before and they had no stock. The coupon expired before they got enough movies in, it was a disaster.

  26. Samantha

I don’t understand how the remaining fee for Lion King would be only $9.99 if you only paid $5 up front to reserve it.

I think each step needs a cost breakdown because it just doesn’t seem to add up.

    • Samantha

nevermind, I missed the saving $10 part for reserving Cars 2.

  27. Kira

Watch your Toys R Us Receipts. Dumbo is priced at $29.99 with a instant savings of $10 to drop it down to $19.99. My transaction ended up going like this. Dumbo was $29.99 – $8.00 Lion King Promo and then another $2.00 adjustment to get it down to $19.99. The sales clerk refunded me the $8 plus tax because we both agreed that the $10 instore savings should have come off before $8 bringing it down to $11.99.

    • Traci

I got Dumbo today and I was trying to figure out how I still paid $19.99 for Dumbo. It was like I didn’t get the $8 savings. It did take it off the $29.99 but I didn’t notice the $10 instore savings. I’ll have to go back but I didn’t question it because I just thought the $8 had to come off the original price and not a sale price.

      • Marci

I just did the deal today and initially the $8 wasn’t coming off mine either. The manager came over and explained that since the Dumbo movie was on promotion the $8 can’t also be taken off…it has to be off a regular priced item. I asked if it said that in the fine print on the pre-order for Lion King card and since it didn’t she told me she would take the additional $8 off this time but that in the future I should be aware that they can’t offer double discounts. So, when it comes time to pre-order Cars and pick up Lion King I guess I’ll just have to see if Lion King is on promotion. If so, I’ll either take the promotional price or the $10 off for pre-ordering Cars based on which is the better deal. So, it won’t be as cheap as the scenario Collin posted, but it still pretty good if you were wanting to buy all the movies anyway.

  28. Karin

You are so smart! I’m lost and it’s too complicated to my old brain.lol I’ll just wait for the coupon for Cars2. Thanks for the deal though. 🙂

  29. Theresa

Great deal for kids gift exchange 🙂

  30. sringrose

That is a truly unique scenario for the movies. I’ll probably only buy Cars 2 though, since my kids are getting older and probably won’t care for the others too much now.

Thanks for the laugh. It’s funny to think of going to that much trouble for the movies, but I’m sure it will work out well for some folks who do want them. 🙂

  31. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

The wording on the reserve card for Lion King now says you have to purchase the movie priced $19.99 or more and Lion King at the same time, meaning picking up both movies at the same time. I wanted to do this deal yesterday, and I was shown the new wording. Previous reserve cards (toy story, etc.) had said save $8 today when you reserve movie and buy another. So YMMV on this deal.

    • Margie

I was told the exact same thing when I went in to reserve The Lion King and buy Dumbo. The cashier told me that I could get $8 off another movie when I purchased The Lion King (Oct. 4-10). Glad to see that I was not the only one who was told this.

    • K325

Thank you!! Cause it just wasnt adding up for me…So, if you factor in the rebate of $5, then the total would be $9.99…I was like I keep coming up $15…

    • Collin

Thanks Rachael! Just added this to the post. 😀

  32. kayla

does the wholly and movie have to purchased together on the same recipet?

  33. Renee

I had problems at Toys R Us last year with this kind of scenario- they wouldn’t accept internet printed coupons and you have to BUY Lion King and get the money off another movie then-Oct 4 or after-not when reserving Lion King.

  34. marnee

This does not work with the dumbo movie because it is already on sale, so stupid if you ask me!!! It was enough for me to throw my hands up in the air and say forget it, dang, it’s so frustrating when these things don’t work out. Maybe someone will get a nicer cashier that will adjust the price!

  35. Patti

I just came back from Toys r Us and followed steps 1&2 without any complications. Also, I used the board game coupons from a few weeks ago. I got Cars 2 Memory game and Cars2 Memory game ($4 off each game). I went past an endcap in the electronics section. The latest Thomas the Tank Engine dvd has a $2 coupon off from coupons.com. The sign says when you buy the new movie, you get 50% off another Thomas dvd. I am wondering if you can use 2 -$2 coupons and “stack” with the 50% deal if you buy 2 of the new Thomas movie???

To make my transaction of the dumbo movie, lion king reserve, 2 games, and all the associated coupons. this deal is even sweeter because when I purchase toys r us gift cards from my grocery store, it goes to a gasoline promo at their gas stations

    • Jenny

How did they take the 8$ off? They tole me I wouldn’t get the 8$ off until I picked up the movie?

  36. Cristen

Do you know if a $5 off $25 purchase would work with any of these scenarios?

  37. Ms. Cellany

wow, my head is spinning! But I think I will try it. My kids are still really young, and I am doing my best to build up their Disney collections 🙂

  38. Sam

Ok so I did this last night and ended up reserving Lion King and getting Dumbo for $3.99. There was ALOT of problems, so i would recommend to go without you 2 year old and be extremely patient and nice.
After clerk rang up the first time, he told me my total was 21.96. I questioned it did the math talking to him 19.99 + 5 was 24.99 minus 8 rebate and minus 5 mfc should be about 12 bucks. He agreed and called for help. A lady came over and said i had to reserve the 34.99 lion king to get the 8 instant savings. I said ok and then he tells me my total is 28.99.
i was like ummm it should be 16.99 with the more expensive movie. He called the manager over. So the manager rung me up 19.99 for dumbo, manually priced it down to 11.99 + 5 bucks for Lion King reserve, took off my 5 mfc should have gotten me to $11.99 but for some odd reason the 8 instant rebate worked this time automatically so it priced my total down to 3.99.
I did tell the manager I should be paying 11.99 and she told me not to worry about it and to have a great night. I was in the store for about 45 mins and people behind me were upset. I am sorry!

  39. Tracy N.

I folloed you and onlly because I have done this before. Usually I get my movies at Target because of location but they have not had store Q to stack with Manf. lately.

  40. Tarin

for those of you who had issues not getting the $8 off at with purchase of dumbo. Toysrus online flyer clearly states that you will get $8 off a dvd of $19.99 or more at the time you reserve your copy of lion king! so don’t let cashiers fool you.

  41. Jessica

went today and they wouldn’t take the coupon and combine it with the $8 off.. said its one or the other even though they would be reimbursed for the coupon!

  42. Marci

I just did the deal today and initially the $8 wasn’t coming off mine. • Tiff

The deal did not work for me either. I was told that I could not combine promos even though the fine print did not state that. The TRU employee apologized and told me that I should e-mail corperate and tell them my frustrations. I think we ALL should e-mail them and voice our concerns. Why can’t we get the $8 instant savings? The DVD was on sale but even so, it was still over $19.99 like the Lion King reservation card said. Maybe they will change their policy to keep customers. They probably won’t because Toys R Us is very stubborn when it comes to their promotions, but it is worth a try!

  43. Nicole

Didn’t work for me in Des Moines

  44. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

It states that you get $8 off when you Reserve your copy of Lion King. It states the $5 reserve and the other blu ray must be purchased in the same transaction by 10/3. The Lion King doesn’t come out until Oct. 4. The $8 did not come off mine but the manager adjusted it for me.

  45. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

So far this has been working like a charm. Thanks collin

  46. Becky

My hubby bought Dumbo last month and preordered Lion King. When I went to pick up Lion King and preorder Cars 2 yesterday it was a MESS! It took 40 minutes to check out, but in the eend it all worked out. So far I’ve paid $7 for Dumbo, $5 for The Lion King and the 3D poster, plus $5 towards Cars 2. Hopefully they’ll be something else to preorder when Cars comes out! You’re so awesome Collin! :o)

  47. Erin

So, there are actually two mail in rebates available for Lion King. One from Hefty: https://heftybrands.pactiv.com/Promos/LionKing.aspx
And this one from Wholly Guacamole: https://eatwholly.com/the-lion-king

I’ve read the rebates, and if I read them correctly they appear to be available for either the 2 disc or the 4 disc sets. That means with the current sale at Toys R Us ($20 for the 2 disc or $28 for the 4 disc), $5 off coupon from the subway kids meals and the $10 off for reserving cars, you should be able to purchase the 2 disc set for $1 or the 4 disc set for $9!!!!
