Happy Friday: Happy Birthday Suprise
Sent from reader, Melissa: Like all you Hip2Savers, I love checking the mail every day! I’m always hopeful for what might be there. I tell my husband that getting coupons or samples are fun mail. Well for my birthday, he wanted to help me get fun mail so he talked to a lot of our family and friends and asked every one to mail me a letter. He asked them to mail their letters on certain days so that I got a few letters each day starting about 4 days before my birthday and then on my birthday, I would get a bunch. I didn’t put it together until I went to the mail box on my birthday, secretly hoping that I would have some fun mail. I opened the mail box to receive like 15 letters. It was one of the most sweet thoughtful birthday surprises ever! (And it didn’t cost much!)
HAPPY FRIDAY! 😀

Very sweet on his part. So much fun for her. Great idea and frugal! Love it.
What a sweet husband!! Happy belated birthday, btw!!! 🙂
Aw what a sweet husband you have Melissa! Happy birthday! Thanks Collin!!!
that is sooo sweet! however my family is full of procrastinators so i would get mine a few weeks after my birthday! LOL! 🙂
awwww thats soo sweet of him 🙂 and happy birthday 😀
very neat! Happy Birthday!
LOVE this! You have a great husband! More people need to send mail and letters. Who doesn’t love getting something nice in the mail?
Great idea! We did a “card shower” like this for my grandparent’s 60th wedding anniversary. They loved it!
Our family has done that for special b-days like 40th and stuff so much fun to get all the sweet cards especially in this day and age where everything is e-mail or facebook. Drop him a hint to have them put some coupons in the cards too 🙂 lol A+ for the Hubby, so sweet and thoughtful.
That is so sweet
Awwwwww that is so sweet! 🙂
I LOVE this idea! I wish my husband would think of such a thing. Of course I would expect at least a dollar in each envelope. What torture to open ALL those letters with no cash to fall out! LOL
See, you don’t need to spend a lot to make a birthday super special! Good job, Hubby!
Melissa, you have got such a sweet husband. You are blessed!
That is so thoughtful and loving, what a wonderful husband and family. Happy birthday!
Your husband really was “Listening” to what you love and took it to heart! You found a treasure…. I love my spouse of 13 years but would love if he really heard me, money can buy nice things but what really counts is being heard.
What a priceless gift he gave you!
Awesome idea! I will have to use this for my mom’s 50th next year! Side note: Facebook is taking over. I was looking for the “like” button on one of the comments!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELISSA 🙂
Wow Melissa. Very sweet hubby. Happy birthday!
oops me again hit the wrong button.
Melissa, I think you recieved the best gifts ever, It’s the ones that come from the heart that matter. Kuddos to such a man that listens and does things from the heart. Thats why my relationship has been strong over 14 years, when I think he’s not listening, he surprises me in the ways that matter 🙂
Your husband is very sweet and thoughtful. I have been married for nine years and my husband doesn’t even wish me, his excuse has always been, O Sorry I forgot. Not that he doesn’t love me but he has been like that forever. But I love the fact that my kids remember my b.day. Especially my son, who is seven and THANK GOD that he remembers all these special days, even my exact age 🙂
I use to get stressed out about that because I had to remind him every year for every bday, anniversaries and all other special occassions but now I don’t.
I just go out and buy something for myself..nothing expensive…but anything that makes me feel good.
I am expecting my third child and I purchased a beautiful ring for $14 (normally $100) and a matching necklace for $26 (also $100) from Helzberg site (THANKS TO COLLIN for the $25 coupon code). Not that it only makes me feel good but I want to be able to appreciate myself even if someone else doesn’t. I stopped expecting things from other and it made a big difference in my life (a good one).
SORRY I wrote all this but I am sure someone out there can relate to this.
BTW ….HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY. MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR HUBBY. ALWAYS STAY HAPPY.
i can relate..glad you wrote it…keep treasuring yourself and raise your son to show love …thats what I will do
Rita..I think I will consider myself the MOST LUCKIEST WOMEN on this earth if I can make my son a BETTER MAN. I want him to understand that it is not only a womens job to take care of these special days and other things in life. I have seen a lot of men with this type of mentality, my husband never gave me anything on Mother’s Day because he said that I am not his mother 🙂 but I do feel like his mom MOST of the time…hahahahaha…..
OMG…I am soooo bad and also very glad that I can take it out here…. 🙂
I want my son to see and realize that someone is doing something for him and he needs to appreciate it because life is about Give and Take. He notices everything about me, what I buy, what I wear and where I go and all the other details. He is my little man…GOD BLESS HIM and GOD BLESS YOU.
“Stopped expecting things from others” good advice! I used to get upset when my husband didn’t give me the love that I thought I deserved. I realized he’s only human and only God can fulfill that need 100%.
Thanks, Laura! Thats a good reminder- one that I know in my head but tend to forget sometimes. I’m so thankful God loves us even if we forget! 🙂
You deserve all the LOVE Laura, we all do. It’s better to just STOP BANGING your head AGAINST THE WALL…cuz you won’t get nothing out of it. My husband is very forgetful and he really doesn’t care about these things. I have stopped buying him gifts because he wouldn’t even show any appreciation. I learned the hard way. We have been together for over 10 years and it’s a shame to see your life partner ignore your feelings on a daily basis.
BUT HEY…life goes on. ONE PERSON IS NOT GONNA MESS IT UP FOR ME. I have wasted enough tears and I have been getting depressed for a very long time but now I have learned to just treat him the way he treats me. It’s not that easy but I am working on it..day by day. Right now my focus is on my soon to be here baby…and my due date is the 18th….so one more week..hoooooooray 🙂
And I am gonna be blessed with another little MAN 🙂
I know what ya mean, I’ve also stopped expecting things from people, but hey as long as you make yourself happy, if you’re happy thats all that matters 🙂
Yes Ashley, that’s all that matters. GOD BLESS YOU.
What a great husband. Happy Belated Birthday Melissa! I also love going to the mailbox to see “what sort of fun is in there today”. I was disappointed it was empty today. Until I figured out that today is a Federal Holiday. Doh!
LOL – I did the same thing! I was so sad until I realized no one got any mail! 🙂
me too! LOL 😛
how sweet is that…well done husband!
Oh I love that!! Can you have your hubby give my hubby a call?? He needs a few hints, lol ;). How sweet!
Such a fun idea
I have had the same best friend for 30+ years and I do this for her every year.(she lives 3 hours away) She always calls it her Birthweek, not day. This year was even more important since she was diagnosed with small call lung cancer 3 weeks after her 50th birthweek. She cherishes all the cards and momentos I have mailed her over the years, and looks forward to the next year.
Thanks so much for sharing Melissa…this brings a smile to my face. 🙂
Awww, this made me cry! What a sweet and thoughtful husband you have, Melissa!
That is a super sweet present.
Your husband is awesome!!…I would love to recive that for my b-day :)….
I love this, what a great husband, I’m glad to see other people out there do things like this. I did this for my Dad last year for his birthday when he was undergoing chemo for lymphoma. I never did tell him I organized it or even ask him about it….I just figured he’d be happy to get a lot of mail because he’s always loved mail. 🙂
It’s great when husbands know what you really want. Mine recently came back from a business trip in Texas (we live in NY) and excitedly told me he brought back something for me. It was coupon inserts he found laying around!! It was wonderful–they had coupons we never get here. And it showed he was thinking of me (and cost nothing!).
It’s so nice to see handwritten notes to go with several of those cards. It seems like those have become a thing of the past for many, unfortunately. You’re lucky to have such a thoughtful husband. 🙂
Super sweet hubby – I’d love to receive this gift….for my upcoming 40th. Thanks for sharing!
awwwww what a thoughtful hubby you have !
