Couponing at Walgreens is STILL a nightmare for me. No matter how many times I try to explain it to the cashier, they never understand their own policy. I’ve sent feedback to Walgreens multiple times saying that they need to do a better job of educating their employees, but nothing seems to have changed. Not shopping there anymore.

    • Linda

That’s a bummer. I live in Wheaton, IL, and always shop at the store on the corner of West Loop and Naperville Road. Their cashiers are really knowledgeable about the coupon policies, and will even sometimes mention a coupon that I missed in the weekly circular or monthly coupon booklet. I love my Walgreens!

    • Danielle

Margaret, I had the same experience. Bought two identical bags of candy and used the same coupon for each. The first coupon scanned and the second one didn’t. The cashier told me I didn’t buy the right item! I asked why the first coupon scanned and she responded “Do you want me to void the whole order?” I said YES and haven’t been back since.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

was it an ivc coupon for the same item if so all wags coupons only need to be scanned once per identical item the register will deduct off how many u buy say u buy 2 and it a 1.00 on one it will deduct 2.00 first time scanned

  2. Tracy

I stopped going there when they got rid of their rebates. Their register rewards with the one coupon rule is just too much for me. Plus, with all the deals I get from Rite Aid and CVS I already have too much toothpaste, soap, shampoo ect.

  3. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I couldn’t agree more. The cashiers and the managers in ALL the Walgreens in my area don’t even know the coupon policy….very frustrating. Stopped shopping there a while back!

  4. Brooke

@ Tracy- what do you mean their register rewards with the one coupon rule? Do you mean that they are saying we’re only allowed to use one RR per transaction? Has the policy changed again? I’ve already had too many bad experiences at Walgreen’s so, if that’s the case, I definitely will not be shopping there anymore!

    • Linda

I think Tracy means the “one manufacturer coupon per item” rule.

  5. Wendi

So as a newbie I have learned a lot at Walgreens. So far I’m doing OK. The Rite Aid that is close to me seems to have a issue with Catalina printing out on consistnent basis.

It’s a challenge to coupon in California especially with zero stores that will double coupons….

    • Paula

I agree I live in Central California and it is so hard to really save:( I am also a newbie at couponing but I’m determined to learn as much as I can. Walgreens is my favorite store so far & Winco for food.

  6. amanda

Im obsessed with walgreens, I think that’s the only place I will be going on Black Friday!!

  7. Nichole

My walgreens refused to give me the $2 RR earned earlier this week with the Thera Flu purchase bc I used a MF coupon it, they said they can not give a RR for a product hen you use a MF coupon it, bc the RR is already coming from the MF!! I went round and round with them on it and had a manager not even understanding anything that was said to him!

  8. tomcatnavywife

Using my local Walgreen’s for prescriptions is a nightmare, the pharmacist is rude when you try to ask him a question about medication, and two of the assistants there act like I am bothering them when I pick up my medicine, but the retail part of Walgreen’s I love, especially the young woman working in the photo department, I had printed out a pdf coupon for Popcorn Indiana and of course Walmart wouldn’t take it b/c it didn’t scan (they didn’t even try!), I took it to Walgreen’s and the cashier there went to the manager and asked if they would take it, even if it didn’t scan, and they let me use four of them, I check out at the photo section every time I am there, haven’t had any issues with using coupons yet!

  9. bali

I’m still loving my Walgreens (although I love CVS just a leeetle bit more!). My coupons never seem to scan right, but they just push them through, saying it’s their silly scanner.

    • sapphire493

My Walgreens has figured out that they have to cover up one of the bar codes on the coupon for it to work. Since that time, the coupon process has been much smoother.

      • LitlebityP

also if they scan all MFC first then the store coupons it goes smoother

  10. sapphire493

I love Walgreens and with the help from this site, I have saved SO much money. I haven’t had many problems with using coupons, but have found that they are often out of stock on the items fairly quickly 🙁

  11. ana

yap loves CVS more, though my CVS store begins to be crazy with coupons with a picture of a different store even if it only reads “available at ” and not “redeemable at” they need to read your blog Collins though I did mention your site to the cashier there…Thanks for all you do. More power!!! your my coupon super power!!!

  12. Abigail_Wren

$705 is a lot of money but I don’t need most of the stuff the coupons are for.

  13. Sarah

Where I live I’m surrounded by Walgreens. I have 3 within a 5 mile radius. The one that’s most convenient to go to has an older woman working the register in the beauty area, and she is so nice. She doesn’t mind multiple transactions. However, at the front of the store, there’s one cashier that always stares me down now when I come in. My first experience with her was as my first, and my last.

Sidenote – a lot of the coupons that are going to be in the booklet have a lot of manufacture coupons that were in this past Sunday’s paper. (I.e. emerald almonds and slim fast shakes. There was also a printable coupon for Breyer’s. Since you’re supposed to be able to combine them, that might make for an awesome price matched with a sale. =) Good luck!

  14. Nicole

I have gotten so disgusted with Walgreens myself and wont shop there anymore either. I have my prescriptions filled there, but am switching due to the fact that I do so much better at rite aid I may as well have my scripts filled there since I actually enjoy the store. The main thing I have about walgreens is having to buy filler items that I normally wouldn’t have had to purchase.

    • Alexcia

I agree, I struggle with having to figure out what inexpensive filler item to use and often don’t need. Pencils are usually.39 each at my store which is pricey in my opinion.

    • Francoise

Nicole, Be sure to try and get a hold of a RiteAid prescription transfer coupon or two. (Ebay, or SlickDeals maybe?) They are for $25 gift cards for new or transferred presciptions. (up to two per household.)

  15. Norma

Went today to our Walgreens and did great today…the cashiers are super nice and helpful, she also told us to always scan the store coupon first and then our manufacture coupons or it wouldn’t read right. We got some great buys today there…I even was able to get one of the Make this Season stunning coupon book, all I did was ask the girl in cosmetics and she gave me one.

  16. Rose

I dislike Walgreens and won’t even walk in there if I had an emergency and they were the only one who could save me. My last experience with them, I had to print the store coupon policy and even then the cashier told me that she couldn’t do it as she never heard of Walgreens posting their personal information (coupon policy is personal information according to the idiot) online. I have three Walgreens next to my house only rude people work in them. One time a manager refused to give me a rain check stating that the item has been on sale several times that month and I should have gotten it before they ran out. I was yelled at, stared down at and even refused service. All those times, I was very nice, very polite too. I am fed up with them, walking inside any of their stores gives me hives. Even when I’m not using coupons, I still have problems with them. I never go inside a walgreens and spend five minutes even if I was just buying a piece of gum, there is always some issue.

  17. Bethany

I have given up on Wags .. just not worth the hassle anymore. It’s what others have said here about the limitations on how you can use your RR’s. Not to mention the fact that you have so little time to use them unless you can figure out how to do multiple transactions with them. We don’t have any other drugstores in my town besides CVS, which I LOVE. At least I have one good option – straight forward, easy to understand, plus all the employees seem to know how to deal with us couponers!

  18. Mary

I know my comments is late but I agree too – Walgreens needs to make sure all their stores understand store policies. The last time I went there I tried this deal where you got 4 items for $13 and got a $5RR back. I used 1 $1 coupon for each which would have made my total purchase $4 after the RR – When they totalled it my RR didnt print. When I asked she said thats a good point and asked her manager – her manager told me according to the ad you have to SPEND $13 on products to get the RR – since I used coupons that made it only $9 I didnt really spend the $13 the ad mentions. I never had that problem EVER before – I told her to void it and never went back. I have only gone there 3-4 times and was very upset each time.

  19. Holly

I have a question about coupon booklet. My husband is nuts about Welch’s sparkling grape juice. I want to get him as many bottles for $1 as I am allowed. Do I have to use several walgreens coupon booklets? Or will it take $1 off each set of 2 bottles that I purchase?
