Happy Friday: Helping Others Price Match

Sent from reader, Christie: I was grocery shopping in my local Walmart today, and all through the produce section, little notes were hung like this, letting shoppers know of deals to match for the week! While I always price match, I thought it was super neat that someone took the time to share deals for people that weren’t able to take the time to look through the local ads this week.

Good on them! At least some are in a helpful mood for the season, while others are not.

  2. Kathy

That’s pretty cool! Much nicer than the lady who pepper sprayed some customers at Wal-mart in LA this morning!

    • Heather

      I heard about that.. PSYCHO!

      • Edie

Psycho is an understatement. I was reading about it earlier, apparently she hasn’t been caught. That really sucks. I wonder what was going through her deluded mind when she pulled that moronic stunt. I hope she somehow gets caught.

    • Monique

      NOOO KIDDING!!

  4. Amber R.

How awesome I’m pretty sure my store wouldn’t allow anyone to put up signs like this though 🙁 Their not super coupon or price match friendly

  5. La

That’s really awesome! If I notice someone grabbing something off the shelf next to me that I know is cheaper somewhere else, I’ll let them know! Love sharing savings!

    • gloria

I do too and, most times, the people that I share the info with act surprised and then excited. It’s really pretty funny!

That is so awesome. I however spoke to early having no issues at new super walmart that opened here when it comes to price matching. They are giving hard time. Asking to see the add. Harassing me saying “oh, who told you,you could price match”, I gave the managers name and SHE happened to come over not 30 seconds later, even greated me and told me she still had my number. There was a whole humiliating paragraph that goes with that one. But that manager was a CService manager whom I explained days prior the issues. Yesturday I figured out why…The same cashier manager(not front end manager) is there from other store. The same one I complained about over and over is now re-directing these cahiers, to change to his way, the way in which they first where not when they opened. He’s gotton his paws on these hundred new employees 🙁 He even doesnt allow coupons that give overage. He has them adjust it to the cost. Tonight same thing cashier said no to price matching, then that she couldnt do without add. This time I said “YES YOU CAN”, so she said “I can?” responce “yes”, and wow she did it. hmmmm I can’t wait until the store manager calls me back. The cs manager I even corrected because she said “We just don’t match b1g1 at all”. Of course us hipsters know…yes you can as long as the add states a price 🙂 I think I should pass them all hip2save.com 3×5 cards. lol

The thing is IF is Walmart were individually owned then they wouldn’t have to follow the corporate policy’s, so management cannot make up their own rules, we have the same problem here at our Walmart, one allows coupons, the one I used to frequent fights tooth and nail on letting us use coupons…here’s the bottom line, it’s my hard earned $ and there are plenty of other stores that would appreciate my business, so if they don’t want to follow their own policy then I won’t shop there…=D

Our walmart told me today that they have to have the ad as well. This is a really nice cashier that I always check out with so she knows me. She said they got an email saying they had to have the ad and she didn’t know if it was just for that day or forever(until they change policy again!).

    • julie

How can you price match without the ad? people could just make up anything?

      • Sarah

Yeah, I have worked a lot of retail, it doesn’t make sense for a store to price match without the ad. I was also a lead cashier at Walmart before. Ad is definitely necessary.

        • Destinee

the current policy says that the ad is not necessary. And my local store keeps ads at the registers and at customer service if there is an issue or want to check.

          • Mon

The commercials even say you don’t need an ad. The thing is, the vast majority of people do not price-match so it’s not a huge loss for Wal-Mart.

    • Mandy

That happened to me too, they asked for the ad. I showed them the Walmart Ad Match policy “We do not require customers to have the ad with them to honor a competitor’s ad.” I told them that it’s not required but I did bring the ad to show them just in case (I always bring some hard evidence like ad or photo just in case and they never asked to see it before). I would recommend if you haven’t started bringing the Walmart ad match and coupon policy to start doing so, I have a feeling they’ll be even more strict against ad matching and couponing over the holidays.

We don’t have signs at my store, but I am always price matching stuff for my customers if they are buying something I remember the prices for. Sometimes I give them coupons from my stash too. It’s fun to see their faces. Save money live better, is our motto so why not help do that.

    • Sarah H.

I would SO shop at your store!!!

    • Ashley57

That is so nice! I used to love giving people coupons when I worked at Target. 🙂

    • Mandy

That’s the nicest thing, I wish all cashiers were like you and less like they’re going to war against people who use coupons.

  8. Tera

That’s awesome! Although I thought the post was going to be about all the sweet potatoes looking like seals! Am I the only one that sees that? 🙂

    • sr

hahaa, no i saw it too! That was my first thought! 🙂

    • bridriz

LOL that made me laugh! Thanks I needed that today.

    • rok

Hehehe, I thought it was sweet and sour chicken at first! 🙂 YUM!

  9. Heather

I bet those signs didn’t last long. Though it’s super cool someone took the time to do that…. 🙂

thank you, it was nice to see a positive thing about walmart..as a former employee, a board member of a charity they are good to, I am an avid walmart fan…however…i just had a terrible experience with a hateful, abusive employee that left me trembling and an old man crying not 30 minutes before reading this post. I’m glad to be reminded, he’s just 1 gigantic #%#)%(#)*% in a sea of many good people.

    • Nicole

OMG, what happened? If you don’t want to share I understand, but I hope you report that employee! I’m so sorry you (and that old man) had such a horrible experience!

      • tilla ham

it was actually just basically a half hour of abuse…he screamed at me that he didn’t care about my job history when i tried to calm him down and tell him wow this is a realyl hard job this time of year, I know I used to do it for 5 years. He screamed at me and his coworker and said “you do not direct my customers, I direct my customers” when she asked if anyone needed help, he said no, and I said this old man has been waiting for his kindle for 30 mins..at that point, I said you need to finish my check out experience, all I am trying to do is purchase 22 dollars in items and help a fellow customer, it shouldn’t take half an hour and we shouldnt’ be subject to abuse, and then he said i just needed to be quiet. it was the oddest most awful experience. I’m guessing bi polar, and I say that not in jest, but my father in law is bi polar and I know what manic episodes are like. The old man called him stupid lol it was cute, he got teary and hugged me and said he apologized for my embarrassment on his part, I said i wasn’t embarrassed but I sure hoped the employee was. I got my darn 22 dollars in skylander toys and got home and reported it. Still shocked 6 hours later!

        • Mandy

Where was the manager in this whole experience? Or was he the manager? That’s just unacceptable behavior, not just for cashiers but for anyone in general. It was awesome that you stood up for that old man, good for you!

  11. Grace

I am know at my local publix and walgreens and they are always nice to me, but the other day at Walmart a young lady cashier told me where (in my area) I can get the Sunday paper for half price on Monday. I thought that was great!

  12. Emily Smith Griswell

Last week I was in the grocery store and saw a coupon for chocolate milk stuck through the handle of a gallon of chocolate milk in the cooler. I thought that was an awesome thing to do with coupons I don’t plan to use!

    • La

My 11 year old will do that. She likes being a “coupon fairy!”

    • rebecca

What’s really cool about that too is IF you are a swagbucks member and you find some great coupons you are not going to use but know others might love them, set them out like that coupon fairy and you both benefit! For every coupon used, you get 10 Swagbucks and for the person, they just saved money! Win/Win! 😀

  13. Debbie

My local walgreen’s had a basket of Colgate at the register with a note saying “Ask how you can get this for free” and the checker immediately began explaining register rewards to me. I love it!

  14. Ruthie

I tried to price match produce at my walmart and the manager said no because it has to show a certain brand, and he has no clue what grade other stores produce is. Ugh!!!

    • rebecca

Ummmm, I know you can’t compare apples to oranges but I always thought apples could be compared to apples, lol. Some WM employees are totally unaware of how stupid they sound. 🙁

    • Laura

Just remind him that Walmart is probably the lowest!

  15. Monique

    Love this!!!
