UPDATE: Sorry, all. I was just reading through the comments and it appears that this coupon code is only supposed to be used on select Avery labels? So I am assuming that all order will in fact get canceled. 🙁

I had to call customer service because of an error when I entered my credit card and I was able to use the coupon when I placed my order with them.

    • julie

      what did you buy?

    • Jen

      what was the code?

    • nashuamommy1

I hope it works I just got a new binder for my coupons!! Really need it

  8. britta

how do you get free shiping?

  9. Julie

I am aware that this coupon is not legit but does anyone know how you get free shipping with Premiere Status? I still want to get the garbage bags, and Staples promotes free shipping with Premiere status but when I go to check out it still is $10.00 or something crazy. I entered my rewards #…..

    • Melissa

I just signed up for rewards and at the bottom of the summaries page it said you have to spend $1,000 in a calendar year to be upgraded to premier status.

      • Julie

I am aware of that, I AM premier status, I bought my computer from them months ago boosting me to premier…It still charges me for shipping however.

        • katie

          wow… how rude…I AM premier…

          • Julie

Katie, I was not trying to be “rude” I was trying to state my question as I stated in the orginal post how do you get free shipping with Premier status, I wasn’t asking how you achieve premier status. I appreciate Melissa’s response, just looking for another answer, not trying to pick a fight or be rude.

            • Tamara M

I didn’t read that as a rude response either. Sometimes it’s hard to tell in text. A lot of people get offended when others use caps because it used to mean you were yelling at someone…maybe that’s why she took it as rude…I always emphasize a word by doing ~this~ or *this* to it. Just to make sure. Especially seeing as I’m one of the people that sees a post in all caps and thinks it’s meant to be yelling.

            • Julie

              Thank you Tamara : )

  10. Julie

Just ordered some Martha Stewart file folders and a 3 ring binder for a total of 6.96. Plus the 3 ring is on a 100% reward so I will actually make .03! Free shipping to my door. Thank you for the great alert!

  11. Sarah

  12. LAURA

BIG CAN OF FOLGERS COFFEE AND A 38 OZ BOTTLE OF DAWN DISH SOAP FOR 0.98

  13. Elaine

I just called and cancelled my order since I didn’t feel right about trying to use it for something it was not intended for. Thank you, Collin, for letting us know that this coupon was being used inappropriately.

    • Jenn

I did too. What amazes me is that people are still using it even though they know it isn’t right.

      • qdblue2000

how did you cancel your order? I called and I can’t cancel mine. they said its pending or something and I have to wait for the order to go through and then refuse it or something and then they would give me a refund.

        • Jenn

I replied to your other post, but you might not see it way back there. I would call back and see if you get someone else. When I called, I told them that I want to cancel my order because I used a coupon code that was meant for something else and didn’t know it at the time. I told them that after I placed an order, I realized that the coupon was for a specific item. So I just want to cancel my order. He had no issue cancelling it.

        • Elaine

I called the customer service number and explained that I had placed an order with a coupon that was not for the items I ordered. The lady was very gracious and cancelled my order with no problem.

          • qdblue2000

I called again and got someone else. This time they cancelled my order. Thank you for your help with this. However I was really looking forward to the TP deal I had done. Maybe next time.

            • Jenn

I am glad you called back and got a different response.

  14. Dawn

Got a Martha Stewart desk organizer for my new office area and a glue stick to get the total up to the $15.01. Should be ready for pickup on Friday for only $1.06! Thank you Collin!

  15. sjp

I used it to purchase Avery labels… my what a coincidence

    • Tamara M

      Now ~that~ is funny =D

  16. karen

I feel bad now…Staples is one of my favorite stores. I ordered garbage bags, windex and erasers. Ship to store-Cost $1.05. Hope they send an e-mail to cancel. I like a bargain but only if it is legitimate.

  17. KP

Yay! THANKS SO MUCH! I was able to place 4 different orders! Labels that I was running out of, new “ergonomic” mousepad, special envelopes for the “free” birthday postcards I ordered from Vistaprint………YAY!

  18. Sarah

I just checked the coupon code with the staples ad online and the code for the Avery labels (pg. 10) and this code are different. Not sure if this code is actually for Avery labels.

    • Jenn

On the ad coupon, when you click on it, there is a seperate code for online orders that matches the code that was posted. It took me a minute to find, but it is there.

  19. wildharemom

Darn i just came back to let you know my great deal and saw the update…i hope it doesnt cancel because i used my rewards that i almost forgot about…$14 worth plus got $5 off 100 glad trash bags. I ended up spending only 4.38 for those, ink and matte photo paper.

    • wildharemom

im hoping if they do cancel i can somehow redeem my rewards $ before the 31st and dont lose it because of an honest mistake.

      • Ada - Lovin Him

Was at my Staples tonight (rochester, MI) to use my rewards before they expire on 12/31 and the mgr said they will always honor rewards after the expiration date – no other coupons, but rewards they will still accept even if expired. hth

        • wildharemom

thanks. Im not sure if my order is being canceled or not yet. I suppose i could try to cancel part of it and use my rewards for the rest. I jsut think that since i put them in for this order it will appear that i have used them. Oh well, im not going to worry about it too much. if i get charged the extra $15 so be it (even though i wouldnt have spent it right now, and if i lose the $14 in rewards, so be it as well….there are always bigger things in life to worry about than that, even if its disappointing for the moment.) thank you for the input though as i have gone past the experation date before and didnt know i could use them so just tossed it out. :/

  20. Peggy

Worked for me…SanDisk 16GB microSDHC card on sale for $24.99 (originally $49.99), less $15 with coupon code = $9.99. Did not charge shipping or tax and we have local Staples store here. Also used ebate for a 2% rebate. Thanks!

  21. shannyn

I received confirmation of my order being processed. I ordered 4 avery binders and 2 sparke paper towels. I also received free shipping. All this for $38.00 plus 100% rewards back on the binders. Thanks!!

  22. Angela Stiff

Worked for me! I ordered an ink cartridge for my HP printer and a pac of mechanical pencils. I paid $2.10 and received free shipping! Woot Woot!

  23. Sarah

JUST AND FYI TO EVERYONE!!! I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH STAPLES CANCELING MY ORDER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IF YOU USED THE COUPON INCORRECTLY AND YOU DON’T CANCEL YOUR ORDER YOU WILL BE CHARGED THE FULL AMOUNT I WAS ABLE TO CANCEL EVERYTHING BUT ONE PIECE THAT HAD ALREADY PROCESSED AND I HAD TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR IT BECAUSE IT WAS TOO LATE TO CANCEL AND IT ALREADY PROCESSED TO MY BANK SO TRYING TO CHEAT THIS ONE ISN’T GOING TO WORK!!!

    • Jenn

I am very glad I cancelled my order as soon as I found out the coupon wasn’t valid for what I ordered.

    • nene

Can items be returned at the store?????

      • Sarah

Yes as far as I understand!!!

    • Geri

that is against the law! You can not be charged more than you authorized for

      • Sarah

I don’t know he quoted something from the website stating that if an item was purchased using a coupon code on something that it was intended for they can charge you full price for the order. And they did charge me for the one they couldn’t cancel its on my bank statement pending already

      • Kelly

It is in the fine print that you did agree to when you submitted your payment info. They reserve the right to charge your credit card the amount of the coupon. You cannot blame Staples if you did not read the fine print.

        • Kelly

And I should add that yes, I believe Staples’ IT department should have been more on top of things to prevent the use of the code on items that were ineligible.

Unfortunately due to coupon fraud (not saying anyone here was trying to commit fraud!), companies have to protect themselves through the use of the obnoxious fine print.

        • Catie

lol really? i had to laugh there….they can ONLY charge you the total amount of your order …it’s against the law to charge you full price for something that you did NOT authorize…PERIOD!!!

          • ashley

Yes but the price you paid for isn’t “authorized”… its still a “pending” payment until someone reviews it. It which case, they CAN change it LOL

            • Kelly

Thank you, Ashley. Having a teething 6 month old makes it hard for me to get my point across lately 🙂

  24. Angela Stiff

You know…I don’t appreciate the accusations of cheating. I saw the coupon and made a purchase. I didn’t know that the coupon was for a specific product as that wasn’t specified when I ordered nor did I read any of the above comments until after the purchase was made. While I will be happy to call and cancel my Staples order, I also believe that Staples is also responsible for allowing the coupon to go through.

    • nene

I totally agree, I placed my order like an hour ago. I had no idea this was cheating! I guess im gonna call to cancel my order, don’t want to be charged full price.

    • Leslie

I definitely agree…And if Staples charges people the full amount just because they don’t know it wasn’t a correct coupon then that is a complete disregard for patronage and customer service on their part…I did just cancel my order by calling them, and the gentleman was extremely nice even considering he’s had quite a few of the calls already…

    • Jenn

Staples has a statement on the website regarding the use of coupons. I saw it when I entered the coupon code. That is how they get around these types of issues when a coupon code “works” for items it was not intended for. They have every right to deny the coupon and charge full price. While it would be nice to just cancel orders, they do warn that you can be charged full price for using the wrong coupon.

      • Sarah

Thats what he told me when I called to cancel and I told him I honestly wasn’t trying to cheat anyone that I honestly didn’t know but he said there was nothing he could do and said I would be charged full price for the item that had already processed and according to my bank statements that charge is pending.

        • Leslie

So you should call your bank and explain the situation that you do not authorize that charge.

        • Tamara M

If I were you, I’d call back and talk to someone else, maybe even a “supervisor”. I just cancelled mine and the guy was really nice and apologetic and told me what happened that started the whole thing..These coupons go out by email to subscribers and another site (oddwally or something? i didn’t catch the name) took that code and posted it incorrectly and it spread from there. They have already figured the whole thing out. He asked me if I was from that site and I told him no, and where I was ‘from’ and that Collin took the post down immediately when she realized the error and how honest she is 🙂 He was super nice, cancelled my order and apologized to me 3 times for the misunderstanding! He also urged me to verify that I’m on the email list to make sure I get the right codes/coupons.

          • Sarah

I am calling them back currently on hold hopefully they will not charge me, I honetly didn’t know when I made the purchase that I was using the coupon incorrectly.

      • Jenn

This is another example of why we shouldn’t use coupons of unknown origin. You don’t get all of the details.

      • Lindsay

She’s right, I just went back to look….note the last bullet point

        •Coupons are not transferable.
•Coupons may only be used once and cannot be used on subsequent orders.
•Please observe the coupon limits on particular offers. Note: there is a 10-coupon maximum for any single order.
        •Void where prohibited.
        •No cash or credit back.
•Coupon must be submitted at time of order.
        •Expired coupons are not valid.
•Tax and delivery are not included in calculating minimum purchase requirement.
•Coupons are not valid on previous purchases.
•Only one “Dollars off” coupon per purchase. (See definition below.)
•Minimum purchase requirement for “Dollars off” coupon must be met with purchases to which no other coupon or instant savings offer applies.
•”Product specific” coupons may be combined with other coupons as long as the purchase requirement of each coupon is met independently. (See definition below.)
•Staples RewardsSM coupons can be redeemed on any order.
        •Limit one per customer
•Not valid on downloadable software, services, business service provider or custom-printing service provider web sites, gift cards or postage stamps.
•We reserve the right to charge credit cards for the amount of the coupon.

        • Jenn

Thanks. I was about to post this.

          • Tamara M

Also, anyone familiar with VS should know that…if they ship an order with free shipping out in two shipments it often will charge you for the shipping on the second one and you have to call and ask they take it off…
That being said, I personally agree that it’s just not right that anyone can charge what you didn’t authorize. In ~any~ instance.

    • Jill

I agree… they authorized it and even confirmed it.
If it was only valid on a certain product then it should have come up invalid and I would no problem not use it. Now it is our problem to take the time and cancel because they did not set up their system correctly. I think the Staple’s rep was incorrect. I do not think that they can charge credit cards more than a person authorizes. They have to give a person the opportunity to pay the difference. Clearly, we are not cheating… I did offense.

      • Jenn

I respectfully disagree with you. It should have been our responsibility to make sure that the coupon was valid. I am very glad that some readers on here did find the origin of the coupon and that Collin took down the original post.

        • Leslie

I’m sorry Jenn, but the advertisers and tech departments for these companies make the big bucks…We are people trying to save money, so we try very hard to do that the correct way…It shouldn’t be our responsibility to check and re-check coupon codes to make sure they’re appropriate…That should be the big money makers’ job…

          • Jenn

I do see your point. It must just be me then. I do think that as a consumer, if we are going to use a coupon (paper or online code) we should know where it is coming from and the details about it. As Collin stated in her original post, she didn’t know where it was from and orders may get cancelled.

      • cdawnt

I agree with Jill. These huge companies should update their website BEFORE they send out mass emails with coupon codes and then our order wouldn’t be confirmed and that stop the order right then and there. There website may say they can increase our credit card charge, but I don’t think that’s right. If that’s the case then they must be happy all these orders came in.

        • Tamara M

I think it is both the company’s and our responsibility to check. So I think your both right.

Also, someone mentioned Hip2Save needing to be more responsible about what they post (not in an ugly way) and I disagree. I think that Collin was super responsible with the way she posted this. She mentioned it being unknown and warned us it might not be right, heck ,she even put a warning label on the top of the post. I don’t see how she could have been any more responsible about it unless she drew a skull and crossbones over top of it :p
Hmmmm, unless they meant she should have not posted it because she didn’t know for sure. I could see that, but then…would you want to miss out on awesome deals like this that *are* legit, because she decided not to post?

PS- this post isn’t picking on or being rude to anyone. The post I referred to wasn’t ugly or anything, I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. 🙂

          • Angela Stiff

You are correct Tamara….not posting the coupon because the origin was unknown is exactly what I was referring to. I wish I had noticed the “WARNING” label and stayed away all together as the poor deal has taken more of my time than I would have liked. I will know what to do in the future. We can all say the deal didn’t end up being so great and we all ended up missing out on it…probably causing those that are still being charged more grief. No blame intended…..just a good lesson learned=)

            • Tamara M

The funny thing is I did see the warning label at the top, read the whole post and while I did understand that she was saying it’s unknown and be wary, it still took me a minute to figure out what the warning label was about…I had that blonde moment a little late in the day today. (I was wondering when it would hit.) =)

But yeah I completely see your point. I just personally would rather her post as is. Then it gives us the chance to decide if we wanna take the chance or not. (Though I’m guessing the CS reps at Staples are not agreeing with me either lol.)

    • Angela Stiff

Thankfully, my order was able to be cancelled and nothing charged to my credit card. This is a good lesson for us all that sometimes what seems like a good deal isn’t such a good deal. Its also a good lesson for hip2save as to making sure what they post is accurate. Most importantly, we all need to be kind to each other and watch the words that we use when referring to others. I wouldn’t put any of us in a “cheaters” category….unknowing or unaware is more appropriate.

      • Delaina

Collin did post a “Warning” on this code and also said that it may get cancelled. You can never be 100% nowadays with all of the people who post things (remember the rumor that Bon Jovi died?!) but I think Collin gave us fair warning and I would say she is usually right on target with over 90% of what she posts. Even she thought this may not work, but she didn’t want anyone to miss out if it was. And this code was ALL OVER the web as being legit when she posted, so that also makes verifying extremely difficult.

  25. Monica

    AND 3.2% back!

  26. shannyn

I don’t think they can change the price once your order has been confirmed. You agree to the certain price when you submit your order. I think they would have to cancel order completely because I don’t think it is legal for them to change your cost to accomodate to their systems mistake.

    • Roxanne Christensen

It says in their policy that they reserve the right to charge you for the coupon. “•We reserve the right to charge credit cards for the amount of the coupon.”

      • Maezy

That does not make it legal.

  27. Cathy

I just called and canceled both orders. Lady on the line was super nice and understood the whole situation! luckily, caught it before it was shipped. in fact, both orders were being held! 🙂 yay!

  28. Miranda

I understand what you mean Angela, but I just called and they was able to cancel them right away because the orders that I placed were on hold and they said that meant that they were going to call me and ask me if i wanted to process them full price or if I wanted to cancel them, so I do not think that they will charge you with out you oking the product at full price. but I agree the coupon should not go through if the item is not on the purchase. also if anyone has rewards to use you might want to go through shopathome.com because they have 4% back right now instead of the 2% from ebates.

  29. Melody Lynn

I just called customer service to cancel this order & talked to the rep about all the orders that have come in (and still coming in). She said they will all be cancelled. She said that all the orders with this code are being put on “hold” and there is a special department that handles situations like this. 🙂 it is what is it , but darn I was excited for a good deals on paper towels. 😛

    • Ana

Cancelled I am cool with since it requires me to do no extra work. Charging me the full amount is not cool. But either way I can just return this to the same store as soon as I pick it up for full refund right?

      • Jenn

I am guessing that if you are charged full price and pick in store pick-up, you could just return when you pick it up. For those who had it shipped and paid shipping costs, they would be reimbursed for everything but shipping probably.

  30. Misti

I’m just going to cancel. I sent an email awhile ago stating that I unknowingly used a a coupon code that may not be legit (which was totally true when I ordered) and that if this was the case to please cancel my order and refund my card for the entire amount. Not wanting to take any chances, though, I am going to just cancel.

  31. Frances

It doesn’t make any sense to me why the coupon would even work in the first place if the coupon code does not match and meet the requirements of what was being purchased. It sounds like a big flaw in their system that they should fix!

  32. Lindsay

I just went ahead and cancelled. No use in taking a chance in being charged full price. It wasn’t too much of a hassle, and the rep was super nice. Didn’t have to explain just said I wanted to cancel.

  33. Shirley burton

I was lucky, I snagged the Staples coupon in SC around 7:00 PM

    Shirley B.

  34. Heather

I also went ahead and cancelled my order and had no problem doing so. The representative was very kind and it only took about a minute to do so. It’s not Collin’s fault and I appreciate all the work she has put into sharing deals. You win some, you lose some!

  35. Tina

Don’t cancel this coupon promo! It really does work! It worked for me and a friend!!!!!

    • Lindsay

It might have worked for you if you did it before they got all these mass orders. It may have slipped through the cracks. Im sure they are quite aware now after their site got slammed. It’s not worth the risk of being charged full price……to me at least.

Plus it’s an incorrect coupon, it’s just like people who use TIde coupons on toothpaste etc. We frown upon people using incorrect coupons on items, it should extend to online purchases as well.

  36. Meg

I called staples and asked the guy if it was legit at he said yes, I bought dell ink. He said its no problem.

    • Shannon

That rep is lying or stupid. Everyone else has called and been told no it is not ok. I believe the majority over 1 person.

      • Tamara M

I agree. This was probably the poor guy’s 15 billionth call and he’s just given up…wouldn’t trust it.

        • Delaina

Talked to 2 reps… also confirmed it was only for Avery products.

          • Meg

Well this was my first and last time trying these websites, I got so excited to save money on my ink. It seems like a hassle to try and save a buck.

            • Tamara M

Please don’t give up on this site, Meg. I’ve been here for 4 months now and this is the first time I’ve seen this happen. I personally have saved and won hundreds of dollars worth of stuff just through this site (yes, just since August!)

This is definitely not the norm. I urge you to give it another chance.

Ummmm that’s assuming you were talking about this site and not Staples.

  37. Andrea C.

If you try tracking your order with the confirmation email, it says your order was cancelled:( Too good to be true!

  38. cindy

I used a visa gift card that only had a .50 left on it..if they take my .50 then I’ll take it as a lesson learned, but otherwise I’m keeping my fingers crossed on that.

  39. Kortney

well, i needed ink anyway so I’ll let them go ahead and charge me…my prints were starting to come out lighter than light…

  40. Ashley

bummer 🙁 But thanks for the heads up anyways just in case it does go through! But even not thanks collin! 🙂

  41. Heather

Just call and cancel… it literally only took me 35 seconds to get it over with. The # is (1-800-378-2753). All I had to give was my order number.

    • Laura

I’ve been on hold almost 10 minutes now. You were lucky!

      • Laura

I waited over 15 minutes and hung up. I don’t have time right now so I guess I’ll just return it in store.

  42. karen

I was able to cancel my order prior to it being processed.

  43. Alex

I called to cancel, explaining my error. The lady in customer service said the transaction was a done deal. The purchase was already authorized. I can always return it later if they do end up charging me for the coupon.

As a side note, why on earth would Staples have a clause stating that they can charge you for the coupon amount? They must have a lot of these kinds of problems. If their system is so wacky, they should work a little faster to fix it.

  44. Jenn

I just found this on their site also. In the help section.

Staples.com reserves the right to reject orders that use a coupon code that was obtained from a bulletin board or other Internet site. Staples.com also reserves the right to reject orders that use a coupon code that was transferred from a direct mail recipient or that are in violation of any coupon restriction listed above. If our system does not accept your coupon code and you believe you hold a valid coupon, please call us at 1-800-333-3330.

  45. Jaime O'Berry Ruckel

You can use the coupon code for Avery Labels. If you go to the Staples homepage (be sure to go through Shopathome to save an additional 4%) and an ad comes up about saving $15 on Avery labels.

I just grabbed up two packs $12 something each w/ a $5.00/ ea. rebate. $1.00 and change after rebates. Nice deal still!!

I checked the ad — the code is for Avery 5126 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ laser shipping labels, 100 sheets. Reg. price is $34.99. So, even though you ordered labels, I don’t think the code will work.

Yup, also called and confirmed with a rep and there are no coupon codes for dollar amounts that are not for specific items at this time.
