As most of you know, I posted about the *HOT* Michaels Spend $5 Get $5 Off Purchase coupon earlier today. Due to the wording on this coupon, there was quite a bit of confusion that ensued regarding how much you needed to spend to use the coupon. Well, I am excited to share with you that Michaels posted on their Facebook page that the coupon is indeed intended to give you $5 off your total purchase of $5+ (and they have also updated the wording on the coupon!).

Consider using this $5 off coupon to snatch up some nearly free Valentines…

Select Valentines $4.99
Buy 1 set of Valentines $4.99
Buy a filler item to get your total above $5 (consider a ringpop for $0.39)
Use the $5 off coupon found here
Final Cost Only the cost of the filler item!
(Thanks, Jenny!)

If you have used this coupon today, let us know what great deals you snatched up! 😀

I bought a paisley fabric jewelry organizer that can go into your dresser drawer. It was 60% off but wasn’t ringing up as clearance. Paid .20!

  2. DOROTHY

I went to the Michael’s store in Vierra, FL and the cashier was trying to tell me I needed to spend $25 to get $5.00 off. We argued about it quite a bit and she finally was told to let it go through. I didn’t create it out of thin air, Michael’s emailed it to me. They even had a sign on the front door saying the email was incorrect – that you had to spend more than $5.00 to use the coupon. Okay fine but nobody said anything about $25!

  3. melissa

I bought plastic photo pages that I use for keeping printable coupons in my binder. $4.99 I bought .49 candy hearts for a filler.

  4. mel

I just got back from Micheals both me and my 8 year old used the coupon with no problem. We got a bunch of construction paper, paint books, and a few clearanced items marked .29 . He’s set for projects for along time. I printed a few more, planning on going again tomorrow.

  5. Jen

My husband and I used these today. We both got 5 $1 toys from their dollar section. After coupon total was $0. So we got 10 little toys for FREE!! We’re happy we have Easter Basket stuffer for our 4 kiddos.

    • Sarah

Great idea! I might go get some toys to donate!

  6. Sarah

I just went to Michael’s and got 2 cupcake liners @ $1.99 each and a set of 6 small paints for $1.29. I only had to pay $0.28!!! Thank you!

  7. Adrienne Dorsey

I bought 2 tubes of acrylic paint for 3 dollars. compared to an 8+ dollar total. That rocked This coupon made my day. I have been wanting to buy some acrylic paint for quite sometime but I was looking for a good deal and this one is it.

  8. Sharon Fuller

Don’t forget it says one coupon per person per day, so you CAN go back tomorrow and use it again!

  9. Mary

Got a free hot glue gun! Yay!

  10. Karen G.

I purchased a 6pk of sharpie highlighters and a designer pen. The total was $1.59 after the tax and coupon deduction. I had no problem redeeming the coupon.

  11. LaToya

Just got back from my Michael’s. No issues using the coupon. However some of the Valentine stuff is on clearance but it’s not marked. So when I got up there it wouldn’t work because it rang up as a clearance item. The manager came and was really nice and priced down some things to make it take my coupon. They were really good about it. I plan on bringing my kids back for them to each use one – the girl said just have them get toys or something, not Valentine stuff because that might be a problem again.

  12. txmomx3

Can I print 2? One for each of my kids to pick something?

    • Sarah

I was wondering the same thing. The coupon says 1 per customer per day. Are children considered customers if they each pay separately?

      • txmomx3

We are on our way out to try so I’ll post back soon!

      • Tilla R. Ham

i took my 3 daughters ages 14, 12, 7 with their own money and they purchased things obviously for themselves and had no problem. my kids are so excited to have some much needed art supplies and hello kitty stuff

      • MommySpendsLess

I personally think it depends on the age of the child and what’s being purchased. If they’re old enough to hand over the item and the money and take the change and bag (maybe even with a ‘hi’ and ‘thank you’ thrown in) and they’re buying toys or kiddie crafts then I’d consider them a customer. So my 12yo stepson yes, but I think it’d be stretching it to call my 2.5yo daughter a customer.

There are two Micheals on my way home from work. At the first I bought a hula hoop ($4.99) as well as a pastry tip I’d been wanting and some clearance cupcake wrappers as fillers. At the second I purchased a large pastry bag. I had no problem using the coupon directly from my iPad both times. They have some adorable kids umbrellas for $7.99 and I’d love to snag one if I can convince my husband to stop tomorrow on the way out of town.

    • Julie R

I brought my 3 kids and mom. We each used one! No problems – they were really great! One sale was a $5 toy. Nothing was due! Kids and I were super happy!

      • Heather

        Yes, kids are costumers!!!!

        • Eileen

I agree, kids are customers too if they are old enough to make the transaction. My kids frequently go with me armed with their own 40% off coupons and spend their own money on craft supplies, posters, or fancy duct tape that they have been eyeing.

  13. Sheri

This was a great coupon! I was going anyway because my daughters want to make the Valentine t-shirts from Family Fun magazine. I got 3 red t-shirts (on sale 4/$10) for only $2.50!

    • Michelle

I saw that as well……………….they were adorable and I want to make it as well

    • Rachael

WE are making them too I am so excited!!!

  14. maria

will the coupon work on sale items as long as they r not clearance?

    • Jean

      Mine worked on sale items.

  15. mira

Has anyone tried using this on their Android because it says they’ll accept coupons on smart phones

    • Chels

I used it from my phone today! 🙂

    • Stephanie

Yes, I did in southlake, tx…worked fine

      • mira

        Thanks ladies!!!

    • Jean

No problem using the coupon on my phone either

    • Korva

I used it on my iphone with no problems. Saved me ink!

  16. Sara

LOL! That’s me! That was my comment on their Facebook page. It was too funny to see my daughter Sophie’s face on your page Colin ! Glad I could clear it up for everyone! If any one is from South Jersey, check out my page 🙂

    • Korva

      How cool <3

  19. Becky

My husband and I both used a coupon on our phone this evening with no problems. We got a metal canister organizer that goes on the wall for some of my scrapbook supplies (regularly $25 but on sale 40% off) and then I got some extra canisters, a refill for my glue gun, a small toy for our 5 year old, and a handful of scrapbook papers. Everything would have cost $40 but we only paid $14!

  20. Rebekah

Got two bags of Wilton candy melts 1-red 1-pink (great school lollipops for v-day!) and a cute paper bag to put them in. Candies were on sale for 2.49 and bag was .49….walked out paying .51!!

  21. Amy

  23. carrie

I’m going back again tomorrow and making my boyfriend come! lol I got 3 jar candles with lids and a pack of 50 tea lights for a whopping 1.09 lol I feel so proud of myself =) We’re going back for the BIG jar candles priced at 3.99 tomorrow (we like candles 😉 ) lollll

  24. Jen

Has anyone thought to take this coupon to Joann’s?

    • Porsche

I was wondering the same thing…I am going there and Hobby Lobby later today and I will let you know how it goes

  25. Amy

At Joannes, can you use this coupon plus theirs.. sorry I don’t typically shop/ coupon at these stores. Info would be greatly appreciated 🙂

  26. Jean

My son and I each used a coupon and between the two of us we got: 2 boxes of valentines, 3 bags of candy (for the valentines), a puzzle and jump rope (from $1 bins) and small box of candy hearts for filler. Total OOP was $0.54!!! I was so excited about it that I called my husband on his way home from work – he wasn’t amused at the untimely call. But I knew you all would be happy for me!!! (He likes the deals I get, but does not want the play-by-play). I may go back tomorrow and look for dry erase markers.

    • Asmith

Thanks so much for this! I needed tealights, so I got my husband to go with me and we each got a package of 4.99 tealights and I found cute little rolls of wrapping paper for 1.50, so with tax we paid a total of 3.22 for 200 tealights and 2 small rolls of gift wrap!

  30. Isabel

Candy melts are on sale for 2.50 so bought 2 got a filler for .39 cents, My daughter did the same deal with me, Total was less than $1,..so we’re planning to make some cake pops for Valentines! 🙂

  31. Korva

Took my boyfriend with me and he found some artist kits (pencils, acrylics, watercolors) priced at 4.99. We bought a filler item for .39 making our OOP .41!! Great Valentine’s Day gift for him.

  32. Elisha

  33. Michelle Dang

They wouldn’t let me use the coupon. Said they sent this coupon out by mistake and its actually 5 dollars off 25 dollars or more

  34. jamie

I have shopped craft stores for years and this is the best coupon I’ve ever seen…besides my 80% lottery coupon from joann’s once. 😉 i hope that if we don’t abuse it, that we will see more of these like the $10 off $10 at kohls and penney’s. even though i had my kids with me, i just used one coupon and got 2 photo boxes (sale for $2.39 each) and a heart cookie cutter for 99 cents. OOP was 83 cents. I hope to use one more tomorrow for another photo box and some scrapbooking adhesive. i hope it still works tomorrow. 🙂

  35. Debbie

I am crocheting a toddler dress for someone and I needed some more yarn. The yarn cost 4.99 (naturally it couldn’t be over 5!!) And, I bought some needles for .99. My total was $6 and change, making my OOP expenses a little over a dollar! I might go back again today to snatch another spool of yarn! 🙂

  36. sam

Does the coupon work on clearance items? On the coupon it says it doesnt but reading what people are purchasing it looks like it works.

  37. darcy

It won’t let me print. How do I send it to my phone?

  38. Melissa

My daughter got 5 of the melty beads kits ($1 each) and I picked up 5 of their $1 candles. Had no problems at all using the coupon.

  39. sara

i just went and bought 4 of the $1 mini frames and one metal stencil thing for $1. When the women scanned my coupon on my phone, the total came up $0.00. She put the receipt in my bag and I walked out with five things for FREE!!! woot! now that’s HIP!!! 🙂

  40. kim

I went to Joanne Fabrics, since they take competitors coupons. I got 20 pieces of scrapbooking paper for free with coupon. (On sale 4 for 1.00) 🙂

  41. Kris

Smooth sailing with this coupon in WI. I’m planning a wedding and this helped out so much. I never would have heard without H2S. Thank you so much!

  42. Betty

  43. Asmtih

  44. meryl

I recently bought a couple of sequined tops and was worried about washing them. I planned to buy spray on adhesive but did not want to spend $7. Def worth it for $2!!! Btw, turned the tops inside out and put a plastic inside so it doesn’t stick to itself- spray lightly, let dry, launder very gently!!! THANKS COLLIN!!! Going back today for lint rollers- 2 @ $2.69 each. Got pets??? =)

  45. ewenme1

My husband and I both took this coupon to JoAnn’s today. Cashier says she could not accept the coupon, but she told us she would do it anyways, since we did not know they don’t accept competitor $$$ off coupons, only % off coupons.

So, my husband bought Button and Upholstery thread, which was also 50% off. And $5.00 off of these.

And I bought “Stiffen Stuff” to use for stiffening bows. And $5.00 off of this.

Combined we spent less than $2.00.

I was thrilled the cashier did this for both of us! I wish I would have also gone to Michael’s today, to buy items, with these coupons. But I am happy with what I bought from JoAnn’s.

  46. Rochelle

I bought the 8 pack, 10 inch glue sticks which cost $5.99 before taxes. My total with tax was $1.07. Thanks so much 🙂

  47. Tarri

Thanks for all your hard work Colin, it is appreciated more than you probably ever feel/know. I was able to get candy melts for my dd, who makes cake pops/cakes/cupcakes as a little business, so these make it were her oop expenses are not as high.

  48. Melissa

My daughter had a school project and we need some yarn. I also picked up her valentines, the nicer ones with pencils (and had to buy 2 boxes). I had no problem with the coupon and spent just a little more than $2! Love this site! Thanks Collin!

  49. Emilytwinmom

I went to Michael’s yesterday to use my coupon and while I was shopping someone backed into my honda pilot – really hard hit too! I was in awe! Her car is totaled, mine took the hit like a champ. GO honda! I posted pictures on my blog I was so amazed at the damage she incurred! Crazy. Such an adventure at Micheals! The cashiers were awesome, I had to throw the stuff in my hands at my mom and pushed my twins and their stroller at her, ran out – and the cashiers let her buy my stuff using her coupon, then let her buy her stuff using her coupon again. I still got my googly eyes, pipe cleaners, monkey stickers and poppers after all, $1 oop!!! They were really nice in the store, I forgot to get any witness’s contact information so the cashier who called me up said she would be a witness that I was not in the car when it happened. I love Michael’s today 🙂

  50. deb

I got 2 packs of valentine’s cards (with cute little easers for each kiddo) for my daughter and a little valentine themed iron on patch for her shirt
