I bought 8 of the largest ones yesterday at $5.50 each! (reg. $11.00) I got a few more things as well either at the 50% off or I had coupons. Total came to $138.00……I ended up spending $78.00.
The day before, I bought 3 sets ofcurtains and rods for my mom’s new apartment, a rolling trash can, lots of new dish towels and drying towels, magnetic hanging rack to go on my fridge, two lamps, two lamp shades, a kitchen sink shelf, mesh sink strainer, paper towel holder, various scrub brushes and a few more items. Hey … so I just went and my bill was 140 down to 74. I got sheets, the huge plastic containers 11 down to 5.50, wash cloths, towels, laundry baskets, hangars, pillows and a bath rug. I want to know if anyone has bought any candles or glad plastic containers, airwick, or cleaning products.
I bought glad type containers, can’t remember the brand (red top), I also cleaning products. Some were included and some weren’t. Included were-mop, broom, mop refill, gloves. Not included- bleach, dish liquid,, 409, etc. So I guess its only cleaning TOOLS that are included.
When does this Q expire? I’m moving soon, but don’t want to have to move new stuff to the new place.

A friend just moved to town and we spent 100! She got pictures for the kitchen and living room, kitchen needs (dish rack, garbage can, dish towels, pyrex bakeware, drawer liners, etc) rugs, bathroom decorations, ironing board, trash bags, paper towels, tissue which I though wouldn’t be included, but it seems like they were. Also, cleaning supplies were included (Bleach, Comet, 409, etc) Right now they have plush blankets on sale for $4, so $2 after q, and so many other goodies, it hard to name.

On the Dollar General website, batteries are included under home goods… Did anyone have any luck buying batteries with this coupon? We have lots of little electronics and toys that need them so I like to have a bunch on hand and was wondering if now would be a good time to stock up??!!
I just saved/spent $61.06. We’re moving to a bigger place so this helped alot. I got bathroom towels, hand towels, washcloths, shower curtains, shower hooks, pillows, bath rugs, bathroom accessory set, these rubber mat things I put under our cat pan, curtains, toliet bowl brush and a small wall print. The cashiers had no clue about this coupon included when I asked, so thanks for all the heads up on various items!

My cashier was AWESOME!!! I went up to the counter with about 15 items. She gladly rang up all of them scanned the coupon and handed me the receipt so we could see what rang up 1/2 off and what did not. Things that worked for me: hangers, plastic storage containers, and drinking glasses. Things that did not: air freshner, bleach, paper towels, maybe a few other things I cannot remember. I offered to put the items away that I didn’t want and she assured me that it was ok and that she would do it. Great customer service!!!
Just got back from DG and spent $24 dollars on 4 picture frames, cookie sheet ,2 boxes of tall drinking glasses, heavy duty stir fry pan with glass lid, a regular frying pan, paring knife. hand towels, dish towels and a grease splash guard for cooking that I have been needing for some time. I’m sorry they weren’t. I bought soooo much stuff that on the reciept everything I saw with an ‘S’ as opposed to ‘N’ I thought it was a part of the sale. Return them, I’m sure you can get a better deal.

There was a rebate offer on GE spiral light bulbs at DG- $5.00 back when you buy two (up to $20 rebate.) The lights are $2.50 a piece with the half off coupon so the rebate will make them FREE.
There was a $1.00 off manufacturer coupon in last Sundays paper for GE Energy Efficient Soft White or clear halogen, GE Reveal, GE Energy Smart CFL or LED lighting product. Can that coupon be used on these bulbs? Anybody tried it yet?

So far, I bought all of this and got half off: Bath mat, hand blender, funnels, broom/dustpan, lightbulbs, baskets/boxes, spray bottles, bag clips, pitchers, curtain rods, cookie sheets, hand towels, scrubbing brushes, stainless steel scrubbies, and Rubbermaid food containers. Make sure you check the clearance aisle, too (bought an “undershelf shelf” that I thought was $2, was actually $.50 and I got it for $.25 (woot!)).
Bath scales and those sticky hooks (like Command hooks, except the generic version) don’t seem to be included in the half-off deal.
I received a $5 off a purchase of $20 or more. but it says not valid with any other coupons, so this means that I can only use this coupon on an order and not any others?
I don’t know why I always have problems with coupons. I got a bunch of tubs and a lamp and a few other things that weren’t house stuff. Before checking out I first asked the clerk if the tubs were included in the 50% off sale. She said she didn’t know what I was talking about, but surely I couldn’t get all those for 50% off, maybe one. I showed her the coupon and she wanted to know where I got it because they can’t take internet coupons, I told her it was on their website. She called her mgr and the mgr looked at me like I was crazy and she had never heard of the coupon either plus it was “just” some print out. I asked if she would pls ring two tubs up and scan the coupon and see if it works. She did and it worked. Then the clerk said, “oh, you must be one of those extreme couponers!” I just ignored her and left. Then got home and my husband told me at 50% off I need to go back and get some more this weekend cause he wants some. He would go himself but he’s leaving the country in the morning. I just can’t go back in that store again! I don’t know what I’m going to do. I would love to go buy some more stuff since the coupon worked, but gosh it was so embarrassing and of course, a lady I knew was behind me in the looong line that accumulated. Another humiliating experience today. First Wags then Dollar General. The things we have to go through to buy from these stores! You’d think they put out the coupons and hope nobody Really uses them, heaven forbid…..
I agree with you, dawn. I HATE shopping at dollar general because of that same reason! I wrote corporate once, but never got a responce. I was made to feel like a fool, and even had the coupon policy printed out to show what they take or wouldnt take. I am excited about the plastic bins, but VERY cautious of going into dollar general to do it. Hope my experience is better than yours, no one should ever be treated like that!
Dawn I totally understand what you’re talking about, though for me this happens at Walmart, I swear they pay their employees and managers more if they harass anyone who tries to use coupons! I’m always treated either like a lowlife or theif! And because they make me so mad, now I don’t budge until i get what is owed to me! Stand your ground girl! If anyone ever rolls their eyes at you or whispers about you being “one of those” just smile and say “I don’t know about you, but I like getting this sort of stuff free or almost free so i can spend all my money on fancy gifts and rxpensive trips with my family! Aren’t coupons wonderful?!” I always think to myself: instead of being rude why not ask me how I’m able to get such great deals?! Duh?!? At the end of the day that person is paying FULL PRICE! I tried to use this coupon at a store in Joplin, Mo and the manager told me it was counterfeit and that she had received word from corprorate not to accept it so I came home and did some checking and it is the first thing listed on their own website as a coupon. I am following up with the corporate office because I want answers. I called the store that refused it and told them it was on their own web site. She didn’t budge. I also called a store in my own town and they said they hadn’t received any word like that from corporate. Has anyone else had problems?

today i went to dollar general and got some great deals. i got spatulas, knives, and stirring spoons for .50 i also bought a clothes hamper for 4.50, cereal bowls for .85, dish rags for 1.50, laundry baskets for 3.50. i had a ball. i hope you all enjoy your shopping experience remember to check your receipts for accuracy.
My dad just tried to use the coupon even AFTER I called his store to make sure it would work before he drove all the way up there. The cashier said only ONE item in his basket could be half price. Last night (after some arguing) I was able to get the cashier to just scan the coupon and the whole basket was half price. Why are they not consistent? I HATE DOLLAR GENERAL!!!!
UPDATE: My dad went to a Dollar General in another town this morning on his way to church and they gladly accepted his 50% off coupon for all the items in his basket. I suppose it all depends on the clerk and I shouldn’t judge the whole company by one clerk’s actions, sorry DG for my above remarks that I can’t remove.
Went today and wasn’t aloud to use the $5 off $20 coupon I got in the mail w/the 50%. It didn’t matter b/c of all the other great deals. Everything I got was 50% off. Some things I wasn’t sure about, but they all were. Candles (also marked 25% off as well), lightbulbs, towels, mattress pads, baskets, & magnet alphabet letters (.50).
I had trouble with the fleece blankets showing up 50% off. Some did and some didn’t and they wouldn’t change it…strictly went by what came up on register:(
I had the worst experience. Went to the Dollar General since i had the coupon, don’t usually shop there. I went in and bought a hole bunch of picture frames a lamp and a lamp shade, a board you could put pictures on and a pillow. I also bought a few other things two glad candles that I had a coupon for $1.50 off two. I go up to the register with my things, i ask the man if he needs to scan the coupon first or after, All of the sudden the woman came up to my face looked at my things asked what section of the store i got them from and told me that it didn’t work. The coupon states all house home decor. Housewares, kitchen and BED PILLOWS, I thought to myself at least the bed pillow would work, after the woman practically verbally harassed me about what would and wouldn’t work, the man continued to check out my things, she left, i asked him if he would scan the coupon just because I wanted to make sure. He said “no she said no”. After this i was shaking, i forgot about my coupon for the glad candles and spent way more than i wanted to. NEVER SHOPPING AT DG AGAIN.
Those clerks should be reported! I am so sorry you had such a bad experience. I thought I was the only one. You are not alone. I had a bad experience the first time and then went to another store and the clerk didn’t even question it. Then I went tonight for the 3rd time just because I couldn’t resist getting a few other things I needed like toilet brushes, ironing board cover, shelf liner, etc. The clerk checked my stuff and then I handed him the coupon and he scanned it without saying a word and told me my new total was $15! You should have walked out or you should take the things back and get a refund. They don’t deserve your business.
Oh, I forgot to mention, after I had a good experience I told my dad he should go in his DG and get some tubs while they are on sale. He was totally harassed and left the store with nothing yesterday. I felt horrible for sending him in there. He was very embarrassed. I can’t believe he had the nerve to try another store this morning and was not questioned at all and he was very happy. You can read my post from earlier today. They told him he could only get ONE item, not a basket of stuff. I even called the store and asked so he wouldn’t be humiliated, but that didn’t do any good.
I really wanted the stuff that i bought i am moving to a bigger apartment or else i would have taken them back, i talked to the district manager and he might give me my money back and if he doesn’t i am going to go further up the ladder because i know at least one of the things i bought should of worked. I just can’t believe it. I think that anyone who is hired at any store, should appreciate their job, because i know a lot of people out there who badly need a job and would gladly help any customer out and work as hard as they could. Today my dad took his receipt in that store that wouldn’t accept the coupon and showed them that the coupon worked at their competitor down the street. He thought they would at least say they were sorry that they had made a mistake, but no remorse whatsoever. He got their names and said he was going to write a letter to the corporation, we don’t know who to contact yet, but that’s what he wants to do. May not do any good, but these DG corporate offices need to know how these clerks are treating their shoppers. You’re so right, many people would love to have their job and be grateful for the opportunity and care enough to be courteous to shoppers. Dad said they did not even scan the coupon to see if it would work!
UPDATE:I went back to the dollar general after the district manager talked to the store manager there. I went it and the same man who was there and wouldn’t scan my coupon was checking people out(awkward). We talked to the manager and he had the nerve to say that he watched the video and that the man scanned the coupon(NOT TRUE). isn’t the customer always right. im not a scammer or a liar he didn’t scan it so that peeved me. And in the first place the manager himself said the pillow i bought would have worked, but if the man scanned the coupon wouldn’t the bed pillow have been have off? idiot.!!. he was so rude himself and as a manager it was so rude to talk the way he was talking to us. like we were in the wrong sorry but the people you hired were. he had the audacity to basically call me a liar. i spent 52.00 and he gave me 13.00 and some change.. even though he gave me the money back. i am going to call the district manager, and complain once again. I hope you can contact the right person and let me know how if your father gets an answer. After going back today i am never shopping at a DG no matter how good the price or the coupon they lost mine and my families business. i would like to punch someone lol
