Just a warning before anyone purchases one of these gift certificates… I purchased 2 of these two weeks ago for a total of $4.00 and when I went to use them at the restaurant that I had paid for I was told that they were no longer valid! I would recommend calling the restaurant BEFORE you purchase this online! I got ripped off! Thank goodness I bought the certificates at this reduced price instead of the original $10.00 price but my money was still wasted!!! :'(
Hi Jenn, restaurant.com will refund your money if this happens. You just have to let them know 😉
Thanks Carla! 🙂 I did let them know and still haven’t heard a word. Hopefully soon though!
I am sorry to say that they will not refund your money. They will only issue you a credit. And good luck getting the attention of a restautant.com customer service person to help you. They keep selling certificates after a restaurant owner has requested (over and over again) discontinuing their service.
This is true Stephanie… I just received my “credit” via email to use towards another restauraunt certificate. The customer service rep stated that the restaurants had to sign a contract that stated they would continue to honor the certificate even if they weren’t participating in the program anymore but… obviously not! I looked it up too and the they are STILL selling certificates to the restaurant that I brought to their attention who is no longer honoring these certificates. I think I will just have to make peace with the face that I got ripped off and move on! 🙁 Lesson learned! 🙂
Someone help me do the math here… let’s say I purchase this gift certificate, $2 for $25. The restaurant says I must spend a minimum of $35. Also, 18% gratuity is automatically added to the total. So how much am I actually spending here?
My effort at the math:
$2 – gift certificate
$10- to get me to $35
$6.30- gratuity
$18.30 spent total, receiving $35 worth of food. Okay, that’s a decent discount. But if you paid full price for the gc, that’d be $26.30 for $35 worth of food. Still okay, but not the steal it sounds like.
Sometimes the resturant does not charge you that on your bill. I have used these for years. You have to ready each of them to make sure you are getting the best deal. I even use them when I go out of town to save money. You can also check out the menu to see the prices. I have bought ones that are $100’s off a $200 purchase. I get as may people as I can and we share the end cost including tip, remaining balance after the certificate and the cost of the certificate. This is the best way to do it.
