Be careful with Kohls!!! I am not very happy with them at the moment. They changed their return policy without notice. now when you get kohls cash on $50, if you return something, you lose your kohls cash no matter what. you dont have the store credit option anymore. I bought stuff before the policy change and tried to return one item after the policy change, and they still would not provide the proper refund. The manager was rude – so much for hassle free returns! I will be calling corporate and then contacting a lawyer about this because I’m pretty sure it is illegal for them to change the return policy and not honor the old return policy for items purchased before the change.

I’m not a Kohl’s regular as the Kohl’s cash was never a great incentive to me…but what if you did an exchange? Do you lose the Kohl’s cash as well? After difficulties with returns at other stores, I’m trying to be more aware of return policies so I don’t make a costly mistake! TIA!

Under the new policy you can either lose the Kohl’s cash if you haven’t already spent it, take a smaller refund amount to reflect the Kohl’s cash you used or exchange the item for something that is the exact same ticket price. This is not always an easy option because it does have to be exact but it could work in your favor. I understand why they stopped the merchandise credit because you could double dip and earn more kohls cash from the same money again. I don’t understand why they won’t just exchange sale price for the sale price if another item like most other stores.

I’m probably misunderstanding standing something, but so far I don’t understand how that’s unfair…?

What you’re saying is if I buy a Red Widget and a Blue Widget for $25 each and earn $10 Kohl’s cash, if I return the Red Widget I either loose the Kohl’s cash I earned or I get refund of just $15? That makes total sense because without buying both widgets I wouldn’t have gotten the Kohl’s cash in the first place. What’s to stop an unscrupulous person from buying hundreds of dollars in merchandise, earning Kohl’s cash, then returning everything? Wouldn’t they be making money off the store?

Honestly, I think the new policy makes more sense (even though its not perfect) because people could take advantage of the old one. The problem I have is that they would not honor the old return policy on an item i purchased before the change! It’s illegal for a company to sell an item to a consumer and say our return policy is 30 days and then change their policy to 2 days after the purchase and not give the consumer 30 days.

I wasn’t returning my whole purchase – just one item. Plus, i spent my earned $10 kohls cash and had a 30% off. They deduct $10 before the 30% off, so I would have gotten 30% off that $10 dollars. I was not compensated for this.
