New Video: I Love Me Some Retail Therapy
What do you do when you send your kiddos off to a week-long summer camp and you can’t stop missing them?! Well, you go shopping of course (the Hip2Save way!)! It’s amazing what a little retail therapy can do. If you don’t believe me, check out the video below…

Awesome video! Thanks for taking us on your deal hunting adventure! Your boys will be home before you know it!
Great Video!!
Enjoyed your video! 🙂
Wanted to let you guys in a kind of secret deal this week (I only know because I work at Staples!) .. If you recycle any binder you will get $2 off an Avery binder purchase, which WILL work with the $1 binder! Yes, you have to spend 5 bucks, but say you spend 3 dollars on whatever, and get 2 $1 binders, you can recycle 2 binders, and get the 5 dollars worth of stuff AND the penny deals for 3 bucks plus tax! Pretty cool. And no, they’re not the best binders, not the view ones, so just plain old navy blue ones, but oh well! 🙂
Thanks for letting us know. I had been wondering if the binder recycling worked with the $1 binders.
I think I need to go back and recycle my current binder, it is falling apart for new binders, wish I would of thought of this earlier.
Does Staples always recycle binders?
I tried this and the cashier said that the promotion could not be used in combination with the $1 binder.
Oh my, are you wearing a sweater? We live in the same city and it is SO HOT here!! crazy girl!
It’s actually pretty hot here in Boise too… but the morning that we shot the video (yesterday) it was surprisingly cool.
And windy! Thank you for the video Collin 🙂
I’m ready to move to Boise. This heat wave is ridiculous in the south!
love it.
I LOVE your videos, hope you can engage us weekly! Sometimes I get off the coupon wagon and then you post something good and then I’m back on my feet! Thanks for all of your hard work. Oh and your behind the scene crew!
Awe… you are most welcome! And thanks for your comment. I truly do love doing these videos, as I really like to be able to show you all how, not only great deal/coupon shopping can be on your budget, but also how fun it can be! 🙂
You make shopping back at Staples FUN, my peep isn’t enough for school supplies yet but I went and scored some inexpensive things and donated as well. Thank ya from the bottom of my heart!
I love the video. You’re such a great person. That wad the best part of the video seeing you donate those items. Very hip, for so many unfortunate families that can’t afford much school supplies. Thanks for all you do.
I had some retail therapy this morning too Collin. I got some $5 similiac coupons from a program I signed up for so I went and got 4 things of similiac for 1.36 each to donate and some stuff at staples. I have been waiting on call backs on some jobs I have interviewed for and getting out and shopping helps…especially when it includes coupons! Thanks Collin!
*getting out and shopping helps calm me from being nervous about getting a call
Thanks for the reminder of the cheap crayons and glue sticks, Collin! I just put them on my reminder list in my iPhone. Speaking of my phone, I love your hip to save mobile site! I can take hip to save with me everywhere, so I can find the deals while I shop! And I was super excited to see the paypal option for the Staples Easy rebates. No hassling with the rebate checks, I can just go online and zap my rebate to my checking account.
Collin,
Thanks for doing such a informative video. I am actually a college student and I always do my back to school shopping supply list at my local dollar store. I didn’t realize that Staples and Walmart actually had these items at such a cheaper price.
Thanks so much. Also it seems like you are very happy in your new state you look a little different in his video (happier)..Sending tons of love to ya from the A town! 🙂
Awesome video! My oldest is not yet school age but you have got me all excited about back-to-school shopping!!
One of my BFF’s was going through a divorce & her spirits were so down. I had a bunch of JC Penny gift certs from a Publix promo that I did. So when she came over for a visit 1 afternoon, I surprised her with $40 in JC Penny cards & a $10/$50 coupon & explained how to use them. Shes not a bargain shopper or couponer & being a new mommy, I couldnt go with but I called it her much needed Retail Therapy. She went shopping & called me after her adventure. I loved being able to do that for my friend.
Aww. What a nice friend you are to a friend in need. She’s lucky to have you!
I agree! You sound like a wonderful friend! 🙂
Thanks for the videos! Hope you post them each week! very helpful!
I am definitely gonna try!
Please do and please bring your cooking videos back too!

I got my little one a bug resistant columbia shirt for free. no CC required if less than $20
Thank you! Was able to get my 6yr old some gloves for winter at .97.
I have never seen the single glue sticks at my Walmart. It would be so awesome if they get them because my Kindergartener has to have 15 sticks. I already bought the two packs but would take them back to save a few dollars!!
Has anyone spotted the $.25 Bic pens at Wal-Mart? They were out of stock at my Staples today 🙁
Did you ask? I did last night at a Staples for the Zebra pens because there was only one on the peg and I wanted two. They checked and got up above and found them for me. The mgr was so nice. He even let this older couple in to get something when it was closing time.
Because of Collin’s video I look up above now to see if they have stuff up there and they had a section that said Zebra.
Collin, just to let you know the BIC pencils say 1 rebate in the ad but the receipt says limit 2 rebates per address/household.
Yeah, I had a guy running all around the store for me! According to him, they were ALL out 🙁 Thank you for the tip though! 🙂
My Walmart had the $.10 glue sticks. My kids are starting at a new school that just opens this year so I stocked up with 30 for the teachers.
Thanks for the video! I am learning so much from your website!!
You are most welcome! 🙂
Can I use an Office Max coupon for $10 off $30 at Staples and combine it with your great deals? If so, will I still get the full rebates or are they prorated?? Thanks so much!
I would like to know if Staples rewards can be used on purchasing more staples reward products? Is this weeks staples multipurpose paper a different deal from last week deal?
Thank you so much for all of your efforts! I have been following you on and off for a couple of years now and my husband is about to take yet another pay cut. So here I am, faithfully following again! Love it! You are doing such a wonderful service! And btw, my daughter left for camp today for the first time, too! 🙂
Love it! Thank u!!
Thank you!!
Thanks to you this year I am saving alot of money on school supplies. Im currently in college and this helps alot:) plus its very fun as well. I also got some school supplies for my little brothers pretty much free.
Mrs hip… You were at the staples by my house! Next time stop by for ice cream 😉
Also, love the staples rebate option for PayPal deposit. No more cashing checks just straight into your bank account $$. Love it!
I didn’t know that they had a paypal option, thats good to know cuz I have had a couple times that I didn’t deposit the check and they expired. Thankfully they weren’t much money but still I hate to actually throw money out.
Thank you for the time you take for us and for making it fun. I have a question about rebates. I bought 2 products in one transaction that I need to submit for rebates, but both require the original receipt. I live too far away to go back and get another printed. What can I do?
Most staples rebates allow you the option to submit online. It’s called Easy Rebates. That way, you only need one receipt. Plus, you save money by not having to use stamps or envelopes. 😉
Sorry, I should have clarified. This was a purchase at Target.
Unfortunately Target can only reprint the receipt within about 30 seconds of the transaction. The only thing I can think of would be to contact the companies to see if a copy will do or pick whichever product is worth more.
Thanks for another great video. One thing I do that has worked out great is I stock up on many extra school supply deals (1 cent ones etc.) and I make a huge basket of supplies for my child’s teacher as a gift. They are always much appreciated! There are many kids that come to school without necessary supplies and the teacher’s buy them out of the goodness of their hearts…this helps out.
Collin is like the cutest women ever…
