While these are a nice freebie, they are a little rough on the skin. I always donate these.

Has WalMart changed their overage policy? I purchased 4 Cutter candles $.97 ea w/4 $1 off coupons. Along w/some cat treats. The cashier adjusted the price of the coupon down to $.97 ea. When I asked about it, she shippily told me that the policy changed about a month ago, also I should be grateful that she even took the coupons as their policy is “if it doesn’t scan, they don’t accept it – and the mgr backs them up on it”!! Personally, I cringe going there w/coupons, I rarely leave that store a “Happy Shopper”!!!!
This was the Manchester, CT & I have had similar coupon experiences w/the East Windsor, CT store. Has their policy changed? Have any others had similar shopping experiences??
    Thanks for your help!

The policy has not changed. I heard the same thing at my store in Savannah,Ga a few months ago. Basically the front end manager’s like to make up their own rules. I called the 1800 walmart and the overage still applies. If you have more problems bring it all the way to the store manager and if the store manager is clueless (they usually are) then call 1800 walmart and have the regional manager call you. once the store manager is aware of the policy it should go down the chain. All you have to say I’ve already discussed this with the regional manager/store manager and the policy is the same, you shouldn’t have any more problems. On a side note, if a manager tells cashier wrong information about couponing I ALWAYS talk to someone higher to verify they are wrong and they then tell the manager the correct way. This saves a hassle for other couponers and myself on later trips. For example on the “per purchase” coupons. It drives me insane when they tell me i can only use 1 coupon for my whole transaction!

        You tell ’em Steph 🙂

I had the same problem at Walmart AND Target (of all places!) yesterday. I was buying the Glade Expressions spray refills. WM has them $1.98, so I grabbed 2. When I go to ck out, the cashier scans my first coupon, naturally it beeps “Valid Coupon Amount”, so she OKs it, but tells me I can only use 1 coupon b/c it says 1 per purchase. I didn’t feel like arguing, (line behind me) so I had her void the 2nd spray off.

Went to Target and got 3 sprays ($1.99), and when I checked out, the cashier scanned the coupons, they went through with no problem (I was expecting the register to beep saying to adj down, but it didn’t) Well, this was a new cashier and got confused b/c the coupon was more than the item, so she asks a cashier who says if it goes through, don’t worry about it. My cashier said she was uncomfortable, so she called another girl over who dug in my bag to make sure I bought the right items and says “Oh, you can only use one, the coupon says one per purchase.” Well at that point, I was ticked, so I politely explained “I am purchasing 3 sprays, I am using 1 coupon per purchase” and put a coupon next to each, and said “this is a transaction. All coupons say 1 per purchase, so the cashier doesn’t scan 1 coupon 3 times” So then 3rd cashier said I couldn’t use more than 1 coupon per transaction. I said “OK, take off the other 2 and I’ll go somewhere else to use the coupons if you don’t want my business.” I continued on telling her it was mighty frustrating to use coupons in a proper manner when managers want to make their own rules and top it off by not knowing their own coupon policy.

sorry for the vent, but I feel better letting it out!

        • minxiemoon

Wow – I feel your pain! I have had so many experiences like this at WalMart & Target lately, there has to be something I really want for me to go & be prepared to state my case. My poor Hubby hears all my venting because I will say I’m going out to these few stores & get back hrs later. He is starting to get really peeved & has offered to write a “strong” e-mail to both places for me (if I write, I may say what I really feel!!). When I had an issue w/Victoria’s Secret last fall & wrote to them, I got a lame response. Then he wrote an e-mail, which actually made my head spin reading it. They called him & offered apologies & a gift card for the trouble.
Considering he goes out of his way to avoid any confrontation, I found it almost amusing. It just is sad that the Extreme Couponing shows & untrained cashiers & managers make our shopping experience both miserable & lengthy!! Vent all you want Mel – I’m with you!!

I live in Portland, CT. Hi neighbor!

      • minxiemoon

Hi to you too neighbor, 🙂 I don’t see very many CT responses. I took a class from Gina Juliano of Gina’s Kokopelli just about 1 yr ago now. Learned so much from her – can’t imagine paying full price or for that matter at all for certain things now (toothpaste, deodorant, etc.) Recently I had a tag sale & I put out a lot of items that I had gotten for FREE that my Hubby & I don’t use. Sold out of all of those! One construction worker was so “cute” – he bought all the Ivory soap, men’s deodorants, shampoo, neosporin, sm first aid kits & Planter’s sunflower seeds & some other stuff. He was absolutely ecstatic! The rest of the time I normally donate these items to the Enfield Food Shelf. 🙂

        • Valerie

          Hi there,
I attended Gina’s session, but since I have been a couponer for years and years, nothing she shared helped me. Sometimes, her site doesn’t really tell the reader the details.

          I love HIP2SAVE!!!! It’s my #1 site!

Couponing and bargain hunting is a hobby for me. My family and friends look for me to tell them about the deals. If I had time, I would start my own blog, but I work full time. I haven’t purchased a paper in years, as my friends save all their flyers for me and I get loads from the internet. I don’t pay for milk, toothpaste, toilet paper, shampoo, soap, floss, toothbrushes, body lotion and much more. It’s amazing all the freebies I can get. Just recently, I donated 16 Diabetic One Touch Units to the American Diabetic Assoc in Wethersfield, along with several boxes of Depends. This week, I’m getting the Stayfree Maxi Pads for free to fill a bag and donate to a girl’s shelter in West Hartford. Makes me feel good.

Keep saving and the Walmart in Rocky Hill and Cromwell are much better than Manchester with price matching!

          • minxiemoon

I agree w/all you said. I was always a couponer, but I took Gina’s class to learn to coupon smarter & it has been immensely helpful! Especially after having been laid off from my job 1 1/2 yrs ago!! If there are references to another Blog as the source of a particular deal, I will check out that Blog for a few days. That’s how, like you, HIP2SAVE is my No. # go to 1st thing in the morning & all thru the day. Free Stuff Times, One Frugal Chick, Stingy Momma and Maven of Saven are a few of my “new friends”. However, I can’t live w/o my Collin fix!!!
Do you or any others know if there is some way, maybe w/Collin’s help to setup a protest of signatures against Target & WalMart & their incompetent couponing practices??
Not something to be nasty – more along the lines that the signatures on this sheet are from your customers who are unhappy with your coupon policy (or something along those lines). Let me know what you think & how you think we should go about it. Thanks much!

Thanks for your input Stephanie, Nikki & Valerie! It truly annoys the heck out of me whenever I present coupons at WalMart. Recently when there was the Dove coupon that was off of “their” website, I was not able to use it at either store & did call WalMart CS who spent time & said their team would investigate it. No response. Guess I have to be more assertive & ask to speak to their supervisor. It is so odd that “their” coupon would not scan on their registers, yet I had no problem at Walgreens. And I agree w/you Stephanie – how they don’t understand the difference between Purchase & Transaction absolutely makes me want to scream (but I don’t).
I hope WalMart reads some of the blog comments & gets their act together. When they talk about “Price Matching”, I don’t even want to try that based on something as simple as a coupon issue that they can’t do. Definitely not worth my time.

Still haven’t received the coupon for EcoTools!

    • Ney

Me neither… has anyone received it? I’ve already received another email from them, so it’s not like they aren’t sending emails…

      • Ney

        Nevermind, just got it!

  9. Miche

These are 2 dollars each at my Walmart. Arg!

I feel for you couponers based in CT I’m in MA and haven’t had the issues you’ve experienced the WM’s I’ve gone to. I do however feel that some of the CSM act as if you’re putting them out when there’s overage and they have to approve it. I’ve done both the coupon and price match at the WM in Framingham MA and didn’t even have to have the ad with me. I do however run into the cashier from time to time who doesn’t grasp the difference between a purchase and transaction – best way to deal with this is to bring their stores coupon policy with you and keep it in your binder or coupon bag (whichever you use). For those of you who shop at Price Chopper there’s a great site to use for that store: A supper Savvy Shopper – she’ll do the price matchups and gives links to the coupons. I’ve been able to save TONS of money at PC using this site. She also lists other stores on her blog for freebies / deals at those stores.
