If you’re looking to cross a Christmas gift off your list, here’s a great deal you may want to snatch up! Currently, Kohl’s.com has reduced the LeapFrog Leapster Explorer Game Systems in Green (or in Pink) down to only $41.99 (regularly $69.99!). As a price comparison, these systems are selling for $54-$59 on Amazon with great reviews so this seems like a great sale price in itself.

However, the deal gets even sweeter! Through 9/30, you can currently score an additional 15% off + FREE shipping on your $50 order when you use the promo code FALLFUN at checkout. Plus, through October 3rd, Kohl’s is currently offering up $10 in Kohl’s Cash for every $50 you spend in store, online & at the kiosk on all sale, regular, and clearance-priced merchandise!

Check out this scenario I cooked up:

*First, add the Green LeapFrog Leapster Explorer Game System to your cart (or go here to add the Pink System) priced at $41.99 (regularly $69.99!)

*Next, add either this Disney Tangled  Explorer Learning Game by LeapFrog or this LeapFrog Explorer Learning Game: Scooby-Doo! Pirate Ghost of the Barbary Coast to your cart priced at $17.99 (regularly $29.99!). By the way, these same games are priced around $18.50 each on Amazon and have great reviews.

*Be sure to use the promo code FALLFUN at checkout to receive an extra 15% off + FREE shipping

*OR, if you’re a Kohl’s Charge Card holder, you can use the promo codes LEAVES30 for 30% off AND the promo code SHIP2MEFREE to score an even sweeter deal!

*Head to checkout and you’ll pay just $50.98 (+tax) to have the game system + either game listed above shipped to your door. Or pay as low as $41.99 (+tax) shipped after both promo codes above if you’re a Kohl’s charge card holder. Sweet! Keep in mind that if you were going to buy both the Game system and either game listed above on Amazon, you’d pay $72-$77 for both so this seems like a pretty great deal!

*Plus, you’ll get back $10 in Kohl’s Cash for spending $50 after all discounts and before tax is applied – redeemable October 4th-18th. Gotta love that! 🙂

Final cost = Like paying only $40.98 (+tax) for both items shipped to your door after all promo codes & Kohl’s Cash (or even less if you’re a card holder!).

(Thanks, Pam!)

Enter code LEAVES30 for 30% off.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks! It looks like that code is only for Kohl’s cardholders?

      • MichiganMom

Oh! Yes, so with those codes (if you’re a cardholder and live in Michigan), it would be $31.15 shipped.

        • MichiganMom

Whoops, that’s just for the Leapster Game System (not the game).

          • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yep – an even sweeter deal for Kohl’s cardholders! 😀

  2. cindy

I wanted to get these for my kids. Great price and kohl’s cash too. Thanks

  3. Lisa

How does this system compare to other ones out there?

    • Makayla

There is no comparison. It’s either this or the Leappad I or II which is the following item that came from Leapfrog. This is an awesome deal for this game. We bought it for $80 when it came out. Its very educational, very entertaining. My 5 year old loves it and my almost 3 year old id beginning to play with it. Another awesome deal is you can use the cartridges on the Leappad (if you’re planning a future buy). I would recommend rechargeable batteries because it eats them up quick and also wait for a sale on the cartridges. They are usually 24.99 but can go BOGO50% during the year or BOGO during Christmas sales. This price is the best I’ve seen on both. (FYI also holds up hard falls as in tile :D)

You wouldn’t get kohl’s cash if you use the LEAVES30 it brings the total down to 41.99 before tax

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      That’s right…so maybe order 2 games?! 🙂

      • Suzanne H

Looks like they only have the 2 games you posted – at least I couldn’t find anymore. If you have a girl that would work but my son would not be interested in the “girly” game! LOL

        • cindy

My son likes tangled the movie….so ya never know.

          • Makayla

The wii game Tangled let’s you switch to the boy character Flynn. I don’t know about this one. lol

  5. Suzanne H

Used my Kohls card – paid $41.98; also had to buy a tie for Homecoming for my oldest so that took me above $50 for $10 Kohls cash. Almost bought the tie yesterday – SO glad I waited! My little guy LOVES Scooby Doo so this is going to be a great Xmas gift! Thanks.

    • Suzanne H

+ 4% for going through Shop At Home!

  6. Nicole

Wish they had more game choices. does anyone know if the tangled game is any different than the one for the Mobigo? We have it for Mobigo but they are getting a Leappad for their birthday. If they are the same, I wont get it.

I am so mad right now! Last week I bought the leapster a game and the charging station it ran me $100.00. Ugh I am ok. Ya win some ya lose some.LOL!

    • Julie

There is a newer Leapster that just came out about a month ago, that is why this is clearance.

  8. Linda

Thanks! Just ordered this and one game for my grandaughter!

  9. Tilla Ham

i have about 600 dollars in stuff in my kohls cart that i would love to buy, now just have to find the 600 dollars lol…my money tree should sprout anyday

  10. Nika

Thank you so much! I had planned on buying this for my son for Christmas & I had the 30% off code! That plus free ship made an awesome deal! I snagged the toysRus deal 2 games for $10 a while back!

    • julie

this will not work with those cartridges

      • Nika

Yes, it will, I checked the game packages. They are compatible with all Leapster Explorer systems & Leap pad.

        • Nika

Crap, scratch my last comment. Sorry! I did get the wrong games during the toyrus sale! Ugg! My bad.

  11. Janelle

I heard that leapsters might be discontinued after this year so you might want to consider that and or check if its true before purchasing.

    • Makayla

I don’t think they are being discontinued. As with any game, they get upgrade according to people’s complaints. The Leappad 2 now has a bit better battery life, a charger and a front camera and the leapster explorer shares games with the leappad also so great to upgrade later. The first one that came out was LEAPSTER (by itself). That’s the one you shouldn’t buy because the cartridges are not compatible with other systems. Maybe that’s the one being discontinued.

    • Emilytwinmom

I also heard the leapsters in general are going to the wind – I heard they are only going to go forward with the tablets. Believe it or not my 4 yr olds are using the original leap pad I bought when my now 13yr old was little! No screen, just sound and reading. They love it, and I still find books and cartridges at consignment sales and such. So, if you don’t mind having to scrounge for the games it really isn’t a big thing to play with a discontinued system! I think the original leap pads were discontinued in 2004 or so 🙂

      • Makayla

Wow! I didnt even know there was an original leap tablet. I bought two leappads for my little girls last year. I waited in line for them too and then someone offered me twice as much for them O_O. So I sold them and bought Chritmas gifts practically for free. Dad ended up sending the oldest (4) one of these and this year I broke down and got her the Leappad 2. 😀 THings happen for a reason and the demand on these shouldn’t be as terrible.

    • Tammi

The original leapster/leapster2 systems are fading out (that would be why their games have been on sale for $5 at Toysrus lately), but the leapster explorer unit is the best out of them all if you’re looking for a “starter” game unit for ages 3 – 5. You’ll want to get the charging dock right away since its goes through tons of batteries. We’ve had this unit for over a year and it’s taken a beating by my 3 and 5 year old boys. It’s held up great and the kids still play with it! This is a great toy for that age range and all the explorer games work with the leap pad so if you wanted to get the leap pad down the road you don’t have to buy a bunch of new games.

For kids 6 years and up they’ll probably get bored with it quick since now you can get tablets with preloaded games and wifi capabilities. We were thinking of getting the Leappad this year, but honestly the new Tabeo at Toysrus is the way to go …… more cost effective to spend the .99 app price than $20 for a game. Or even the mini iPad will be a better buy for older kids.

  12. Nikki

Kohls has an awesome return policy so if it is discontinued you can always take it back. I just bought two for $55.16 (had some kohls cash left from a previous purchase) and then I got another $10 kohls cash so it was like getting two systems for 45.16. Thanks!!

  13. moe

This is awesome deal now but a better deal was when i bought it for $20 on black friday last year and scored the games 2/$10 this summer 🙂

    • Makayla

This is a different version. The leapster sale is different and not compatible with this game nor leappad.

      • moe

No…..the games are compatible with with the leapad and I just checked….the games say explorer on it and on the system. The box for the games say compatible with all Leapfrog systems too…..I guess their mistake at the store was my gain!!

  14. sarah

thank you… we are about to take a 14 hour car trip and this will def. help my 3 years keep busy…

  15. AmyK

Christmas shopping done for my twins! YAY!

  16. julie p.

Kohl’s CANCELLED this order YESTERDAY for me and the leapster is in stock. 🙁

    • Christine

the leapster green shows in-stock right now but when I go through the whole checkout, it did not let me order it in the very end since it says it is out of stock. 🙁 wish they would let you know before going through the whole steps… i even purchased a giftcard so that I can get even more discounts but alas it is not meant to be…

  17. Allison Smith-Tobias

Can anyone tell me if the game cartridges from the Leapster2, are compatible with the Leappad 1 or 2? My daughter has about 12 – 15 Leapster2 games. But her Leapster2 is not working. I wouldn’t mind buying the Leappad if I know her games will work on it.
