I did forget to thank Collin in my original post. Thanks for all you do! I have a huge stock pile because of you. I am “freezing” the budget this month, and only buying the bare minimum, and have only spent $150 on food so far. By the halfway point in the month I usually have spent around $350. You save us so much money, and I am so incredibly grateful for all you do. I “like” several coupon sites on FB, and by far you are the best!

Thank you so much for all of the info. Em, thanks for the details – very helpful. Thanks to Colin for all you do to find us the deals.

I, like some have been aggravated that my spending isn’t lower. YTD, My hubby and I have spent close to $400/month to include groceries, toiletries, garden supplies, and continuing to build my stockpile. This includes $80/month just for dog food and glucosamine. I have to say that our hobby is eating, so that is probably the bulk of our problem 🙂 We would rather eat and exercise than just eat less. Anyway, we are in NC on the coast and do not have any stores that double coupons unless we drive 45 minutes. I don’t do the drive because I don’t want to waste gas only to find out the shelves have been cleared. I mostly shop on a military base that charges 5% precoupon surcharge. Our eating out budget is $50/mo and usually consists of going out with family once a month.

    That said, a few questions…
For those who spend $20-$150/month, does that include the cost to keep up your stockpile?
Does the work involved in making your own cleaning supplies justify savings? (I realize some is for the health benefit, not financial.) When I calculated the laundry detergent, I would only save $2/mo (we do about 45 loads, so cost is $2 vs. $4). When you buy 1/4 of a cow, do they grind/cut it into steaks for you or do you bring chunks home and process it yourself? I’ve never been to a meat center, but maybe need to look into it. My husband eats ribeye/tbones 1-2 times and we eat about 5 lbs of ground beef/mo.
