My daughter got one for last Christmas. I hated it when she asked to use it. Thankfully, she has only used it twice and it is pretty much done. It is messy and the crayons that are made are really tiny. It uses a bulb to heat it. I think a better craft would be making your own in the oven with scaps of other crayons. Please understand that these are really small crayons and you can’t really use them.
Thanks a lot!! I was planning it to buy for my daughter.
I agree this thing is a waste of money. My kids got it last year. The crayons are like 2 inches long and they come with this plastic holder thing. It’s messy and really NOT that cool at all.
Does anyone know where you can buy the bulb for this? Ours did not come with one and we haven’t used it yet because I have had a hard time finding the right bulb.
We got ours at Walmart. Came in a package of 4 only.
My daughter also got this toy for Christmas last year. It’s horrible! The concept is cool but it takes forever, makes a big mess, and the crayons are tiny.
I second that. we got it for christmas a few years ago and it was terrible. it was messy and the crayons always had air pockets in the center, so they would break the first time they had any kind of pressure on them.
My daughter got one of these last year for Christmas. This toy is awful! It broke after one use, the crayons were very small and it was just a pain to use. It went into the trash within a week of her getting it. Worthless toy, don’t waste your money.
I make crayons and sell them – easy to make and kids love them! I melt down Crayola washable crayons and use molds. If you are interested, you can see them on my facebook page: Snuggles ‘N Stuff https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Snuggles-N-Stuff/117856114895260
Just look for the “Crayons” album!
Those are really cute!
My daughter asked for one last year- we got it! Worst thing… Did not work, replaced it, new one didn’t work either! In my opinion… Spend your hard earned money on something else.
I have one and use it at school to demonstrate how matter can change state. We melt down broken crayons and later we use the “new” ones in our writing center. I admit the crayons are small but it’s a great way for my students to see changes in matter!
We used this once. It is cool but takes a long time to make 4 halves of a crayon. Then the clean-up is a pain. By the time the lid unlocks, the wax from the leftover crayon on the tray is dry. Then you have to find something non-metal to scrape it off. I used the cap of a pen, straw, toothpick, q-tip. LOL nothing worked good. Hard to clean the corners of the tray too. Way easier buy the ready made swirl crayons.
Ive been to two toysrus and these coupons dont work. Spoke to the manager at both locations and neither would take them. Had the same problem with Thomas train coupons.
