Kroger: Double Coupons Replaced With Lower Prices + Better Weekly Specials (OH & Northern KY)

Calling all you Kroger shoppers in Ohio and Northern Kentucky! Beginning on March 1st, stores in the Cincy/Dayton/Northern KY areas (110 stores total!) will be discontinuing the practice of doubling coupons. In place of double coupons, Kroger has promised lower prices and more aggressive weekly specials. For now, Kroger says that it has no plans to end the double coupon program in other markets.

What are your thoughts about these changes?! Do you think the lower prices and more aggressive weekly specials will make up for the end of double coupons?!

    Two words-it sucks.
Still another reason to throw your loyalty in Publix direction. No store in the South comes anywhere close to their customer service. I haven’t walked in Kroger for many months unless I know the items I’d buy wb free.
    BOGO Publix BOGO, baby!

    • Alcelia

I totally agree with Bill! I started shifting my loyalty to Publix a couple of years ago. I only shop at Kroger when they have an item lower than Publix…which is not very often.
JCPenney tried the “no sales”…”lower prices every day”..and just take markdowns on seasonal items. It didn’t work for them, they lost market share and just announced they will be going by to have sales by the summer. Hummm..apparently Kroger didn’t read up on what happen to JCPenney. I know clothes are different from food, but I am trying to save money on everything we purchase in our home.

We just moved from the Dallas area to the Boston area and here are my thoughts; Kroger did away with double coupons a while ago and I saw my grocery bill go up quite a bit but Tom Thumb was my only other option. Here in Massachusetts, yes, we do get doubles up to .99, but the prices here overall are crazy!! In TX I paid .79 a can for tuna and here it is $1.49. That being said, I’d gladly trade by ability to double coupons to have the lower prices of groceries back in Texas. My grocery bill has doubled here, even with coupons 🙁

    • Ger

Texas has a much lower cost of living, with a considrable difference in housing prices and groceries prices. Can’t imagine your sticker shock on all prices in Boston compared to Texas.

    • Sara M

I just moved from Ohio to the Dallas area, and I’m upset at the prices here in TX! The grocery prices seemed much lower in Ohio, and there was no tax on food there. They do not double coupons here at the Kroger, and I was also upset about that :o)

I now shop at Tom Thumb (they double coupons) or Albertsons (they triple coupons).

      • Ger

I believe the Texas grocery store food tax is only on soda, diluted juices, and candy. No state tax in Texas too.

  3. Dawn

March 1 is the day they do away with the double coupons?
Feb 28 is the last day I shop at Kroger.

  4. Jackie

Customers are blasting Kroger’s Facebook page, dissatisfied w/their decision with this change. That’s not good business for Kroger. More people will take their business elsewhere and more jobs will be lost as a result. Maybe Kroger should merge their chain w/another grocery chain down there…looks like a losing battle 2 me! SMH

  5. bhw

If I lived in Ohio or Northern Kentucky, I would vote with my feet. And encourage other like minded shoppers to do the same!

If the Kroger stores all of a sudden became EMPTY , I’m sure they would reconsider this 😉

  6. DOROTHY

We started shopping almost exclusively at Aldis and save so much there. The regular price for canned items is usally better than what I could have achieved with coupons. And it’s a relief to get off the coupon train. (Sacrilege, I know!) We still shop the BOGOs at Publix for items that Aldis doesn’t carry and hit up Costco once every couple months for a meat stock up. Grocery bill has never been lower.

    • Jen

That’s exactly what we do now!

    • Brook

      I agree Aldi is great!

  7. irene

They are really trying to discourage the extreme couponers. Kroger calculated the percentage of couponers is low compared to non users and can take the loss of business from that group. Their management has shown to not care about their shoppers in many ways so we should vote with our wallets.

  8. Heather

You can thank TLC’s extreme coupon show for this. And of course Kroger allowed them to film so they should have been prepared.

    • Jennifer

I totally agree, Heather!! Nothing good has come from that stupid show–it makes all couponers look like hoarders and all of the good coupons and sales are totally gone now. Coincidence??? I don’t think so!!

      • Bessie

        AMEN! Jennifer I agree totally!!

      • Ohio Girl

I totally agree. I think some very Extreme people have ruined it for the regular people. I’m glad I live in Northern Ohio, the Columbus district so we weren’t affected by this. But I suppose its only a matter of time. Every store’s policy seems to be getting stricter and stricter by the moment.

  9. Michelle

My immediate reaction to this news was disappointment, as a now resident of Cincinnati, and loyal Kroger coupon shopper who relies on the doubling policy for every shopping trip. However, I was reading another person’s comments on one of our local news sites which compared an old and new scenario for shopping with coupons which gave me some hope. Essentially if Kroger lowers prices by $0.50 or more on a product, it is more than making up for the loss of coupon doubling, which was the max you would ever get, at least in this region.

    For example:
    Old scenario-
    Product X costs 3.99
Use .50 MFC which doubles to 1.00
    Price you pay is 2.99

    After new policy is implemented
    Product X is now 3.29
Use same .50 MFC which no longer doubles
    Price you pay 2.79

Don’t know if this will be reality, but for now some optimism is all I have. And who knows, maybe some of the things we rarely see coupons for will also have lower prices, helping us to save more money on those things as well.

    • Liz

If couponers represent only a fraction of their customer base, I doubt they would lower their prices so much that 100% of the customer base realizes a saving greater than what a customer with a coupon uses. Their margins are in the pennies already. This move is made to boost their margins for sure.

  10. Michelle

I live in the Dayton area and I am very unhappy about this this change. The prices in the Dayton area are higher then other Kroger markets to begin with, now they are not going to double coupons. Even if they lower their prices, I do not think it will compare to shopping at other stores with or without coupons. I will be changing my shopping habits starting in February. We have Meijer, Walmart, Aldi’s, and several smaller grocery chains that will be getting my business.

    • Anne K.

I’m with you, Michelle. I live in Dayton too and I am so very glad we have options!

      • michelle

I live in the toledo area and since our kroger stopped doubling $1.00 coupons last year, I started shopping almost exclusively at Meijer and Aldi and have been very happy. The cashiers are much nicer and the prices can’t be beat! I don’t think you will miss kroger once you get used to meijer!

        • Ohio Girl

I still love the Sylvania-area Kroger stores. Michelle, I think its the P-burg Kroger that has grumpy cashiers, they hated their lives being the only store in the district to double $1, then up to $.99. I felt like they rolled their eyes the second I pulled out a coupon (or many). I alternate Kroger and Meijer based on the sales, and every now-and-then stop in the P-burg store if I’m in the area and have good $.75 coupons.

    • Renee

I live in Kettering and hope Meijer doesn’t follow suit. For a town of our size why don’t we have another big grocery store like Publix or Safeway. With Cub Foods leaving last year our choices seem to be dwindling.

    • christine

I live here in Dayton also, and I am upset to hear this. I feel our choices are limited in grocery shopping compared to other states. Of course we have Walmart, but I do not like to grocery shop there for much these days, and their prices have gone way up. Aldi is cheap, but small, and when my broccoli lasted for 3 weeks in my fridge, that scared me. Dayton is poor, but our prices are outrageous. I am going to start looking at meijer’s ads to see if it will be worth shopping there instead of Kroger. If I didnt use all sources of coupons, discounts, etc, my family would not be eating and/or paying the bills.

  11. karen

I live in TX and the deals with out double coupons are not great.

  12. Nicole

I live in this area as well and was actually up all night upset about this. I am not an exreme couponer by any means and I look around my kitchen and see so many items that I will no longer be able to buy. I am a single mom with five kids who love those General Mills bars and my daughter loves the the Fiber One brownies and Quaker Bars. I don’t see Kroger lowering prices enough on those items as they are high as a kite in price now. We would only buy them during sales and with our coupons. My family will no longer be able to afford these little treats from time to time. I blame the shelf clearers, I’m sorry but the cashiers were always complaining about them, even to me. I hope everyone that did this for “donating” purposes is happy because now families that truly struggle and don’t look for government handouts are the ones that will suffer most.

  13. Marie

While I am not at all happy about it, I will still shop like I do now. Each week I take the circulars I get and look through them and do my matchups if you will. I then proceed to shop for the week. I would have to see the price of the item and then decide after my coupon if it is worth purchasing it at Kroger or could I go to Meijer and use my coupon and have it doubled still making the deal better. Time will tell I guess with their pricing structure. I hate to say this but I just hope Meijer doesn’t follow suite and stop doubling or Target stop letting us “stack”.

  14. Tanya

This to me sounds like what will end up happening with all grocery stores eventually.

    • Ohio Girl

I agree. Its a result of abuse. People abusing the rules and the exposure of Extreme Couponing. They will all eventually follow suit.

  15. Maryann

Your Kroger had double coupons? Wow. Mine never did.

    • Ariel

Mine either, I love Kroger and shop there 90% of the time. I feel I get great deals, but there are NO stores where I live that double and Kroger has the most liberal coupon policy so thats where i get the best deals without being hassled and treated like I am stealing money out of the cashiers pockets because I use coupons. I am kinda feeling like I am getting cheated cause we don’t have a publix or Meijer. ha ha ha… oh well. You do the best you can with what you have I guess.

  16. Brittany

In Florida, we don’t have double coupons at all (I am extremely envious of those who do). That being said, we don’t have Kroger either. I live in South Florida where the prices of groceries are pretty high; however, you can still easily save tons of $$! I shop publix and make use of the bogo deals and apply coupons to each. Does Kroger take store competitors or offer kroger coupons to combine with manufacters? If so, it is still possible to save lots of cash. However, if you are TRULY dissatisfied, then your only option is to stand by your principals and shop elsewhere.

  17. Allie

I live in Raleigh, NC, we just lost two local Krogers, which closed due to lack of business. I did like going to my Kroger at least once a week because the produce was cheaper and I scored a lot of great stuff marked down. I very rarely used coupons at their store because I mainly shopped for produce and marked down items like bread, meat, dairy. I think it does suck they are getting rid of the coupon program, seems like they could have just changed their rules like limiting the number of coupons instead of taking it away all together. My favorite place to coupon shop is Harris Teeter, I always do the best there, especially during Super Doubles week. I hope this doesn’t start something across all major grocery chains.

  18. Amber R.

My Kroger in Colorado only doubles 2 coupons per customer per day, not per transaction. Also they only allow you to use 5 coupons per customer per day and none of those 5 coupons can be the same. Needless to say I stopped shopping there as soon as I started couponing because that is just ridiculous. I just price match there ads at Walmart, much easier.

    • Jen

Amber- what part of CO are you in? I am in Western & my Kroger (I.e. City Market) lets you use up to 5 like coupons and they all double. Is this a change coming to Colorado??

      • katie

I’m in the Denver area and our Kroger (KIng Soopers) also lets you use up to 5 like coupons and they all double.

  19. Elizabeth

I am sure it sucks for you guys that rely on double coupons but be great full you had it for as long as you did. Where I live there are no double coupon grocery stores, in fact we only have one type of actual grocery store which means they can pretty much set prices as high as they want to as there isn’t much for competition.

  20. Dawn

I wonder how long it will be before the manufacturers themselves see a loss of business because of the stores changing their coupon policies. The manufacturers have no control over a store’s doubling policies, but when their product stops moving off the shelves as a result of those same policies, I wonder if they might intervene in some way. (?)

    • Mel

So true Dawn! Many of the items I choose to purchase I do because my local ShopRite doubles coupons. There are a lot of things I would stop buying if they decided to stop doubling coupons!

  21. Mark

Kroger stores in some states charge already for plastic bags at the cashier as I recall, they claim it’s to help ecology, and there for sell plastic bage and also sell cloth bags with their logo on them claiming that the cloth bags can be used over and over, and are good for the environment. I’m sure the CEO of companies in the past such as Pan American Airlines are now sorry theyonly thought of their own wallets and not those of their customers. The Kroger company has already had to downsize, maybe they need to downsize even more. Other supermarket chains already downsized to the point of no longer operating, while dollar stores and Wal-Mart expand, maybe that should tell the public and Kroger’s CEO something.

  22. Ashley B.

I live in Houston and they did away with the double and triple coupons a couple years ago and said their prices and sales would be better and their gas program you could redeem up to 1000 points instead of 100 at a time and they were focusing on saving people more money at the gas pump. Their prices are still the same on sale or not. It’s such a gimmick. I wish they would bring back the double and triple coupons.

    • Ger

I agree Ashley, it was a gimmick. So we get to save 3.00(or whatever) more at the pump instead of saving 30.00 in doubles/triples. I don’t even buy gas there now because I don’t spend like I use to there. I’ve not seen anything they have promised. I shop the Mega sales and thats about it. I’ve heard this is the last Kroger Mega too.

  23. Mark

Having contacted Kroger’s CEO’s office in the past when they stoped selling their day old bakery goodshare in the Las Vegas, NV early in the morning when seniors shop before before it get’s too hot in the summer months or too cold in the winter months (we are in the desert here), and started putting them out later in the day when seniors who are on fixed incomes and need what ever discounts on their groceries, and other such luxuries, as I recall, I was told by one of their CEO’s assistant, that the elderly shouldn’t be eating sweets anyway.

I wonder if any Kroger customers heard the government say that Kroger was too big to fail, as they said about banks. Rather than the public complaining about no more doubleing coupons, they have a legal right not to shop at any Kroger store or any of their affiliate companies.

If people shop elsewhere they can hurt Kroger where it hurts in their pockets. The public was able to hit B of A and Wells Fargo into not a per item credit card or debit card by going to credit unions, if the public shoped elsewhere, Kroger would be forced to reinstate double coupons. Today they are only hitting parts of Ohio, where will be next on their ax?

  24. Jerri

Kroger took away double coupons more than a year ago in Dallas. At first, I was very angry, but they have gradually weaned me by sending me great store coupons and free coupon items, as well as introducing me to their Private Reserve brand, with freebies and coupons. I think they have great sales, if you watch their flyers and stock up when they do. I am also an Aldi’s very loyal shopper for fresh and dairy items and their wonderful European chocolates. They are the parent company of Trader Joe’s!!!

  25. LouAnn Trischler

Oh, I am really bummed since I live in N-KY. I admit that we are primarily Meijer shoppers – in general their prices are always lower than Kroger’s. But when Kroger has a mega deal and doubles coupons then I definitely take a list in there! And I do like the gas points. However, if they stop doubling then their prices will never compete with Meijer – especially if Meijer continues to double.
My fear is that Meijer will stop doubling also – because they won’t need to for competition. This is a huge bummer. With prices of everything going up, I may have to work my business more instead of spending time couponing!

  26. emily

All the more reason Aldi is awesome!!! No hassle, cheap food and its great quality!

  27. Amandaa

Oh that is scary! I live in TN and they still double coupons here and after reading all your comments there’s no way I could continue to shop there without the doubling. Why would they do that? We american’s have to work so hard just to put food on the table and now they have made it even harder. I’m so sorry for you all who no longer are able to save like you where. It’s a shame!

  28. Melissa

My Krogers (actually Smiths) rarely did doubling of coupons, so I never came to expect them to do it as a condition for shopping there. Still, there are many good deals to be found there. They have a great selection of products. I don’t do all my shopping there, but it is close and convenient.

  29. Janel

I live in california and after ralphs (a kroger affiliate) stopped doubling over a year ago we stopped shopping Their prices did not lower. I find them far more expensive than shopping with coupons elsewhere.

  30. Frugal Barb

Kroger has in recent years stopped double and triple couponing in other states, I guess the Ohio and KY market were next on the list of marketing ploys. Kroger and other local stores are all fighting for our business and trying to have their competitive marketing edge. In our hard economic times shoppers are working smarter and harder to be able to provide for their families, so many shoppers will not claim a single store in their weekly store shopping efforts. I am personally in tune with our local stores, I know what to buy where because of many shopping trips, coupons, sales ad research and etc.

Also taught in college Marketing class “Is it a want or is it a need”, if you use this philosopy your shopping habits can change and you will exercise many spending changes and especially if the money for shopping isn’t in the budget.

I am very anxious to learn about the 3500 products that Kroger has announced a lowering of their prices, what will they be and how often do we need those products/and or use those products.

Perhaps the old marketing tune of “Let’s go Krogering may be Let’s not go Krogering, it will be our personal choice.

  31. Bobby

Sorry folks in Kentucky and Ohio. It sounds like Kroger is testing the markets to see if they can pull this off elsewhere. That’s how business works unfortunately. I live in Atlanta, Ga and have actually met the CEO of Kroger and the people that run Kroger. They are good folks and they actually do check this site. So, make your opinion heard! I will still shop at Kroger if they change there policies in Ga because the meat, dairy, bread, and deli is cheaper than everywhere else. Where else can you ask the butcher to change the price on meat and seafood and they do it? That’s a trick most don’t know. Check expectation dates and talk to the butcher. All meats have to be discounted by at least 30-50% the day before they expire. Most of the time I talk to the butcher and they will do it 2-3 days before just for the asking. Try it out! You will see that $7 angus roasts, $1.75 a pound ground sirloin, and $2.99 a pound shrimp and crab legs starts to add up quick. I also go to publix and sometimes Walmart. Publix is good for there bogo’s, but I mainly go there when I can combine target coupons to get free stuff. As far as the Tlc goes, the extreme couponing show has really messed up things here in ga. When I coupon there’s always somebody saying “oh your one of those?” Which I reply with “yep one of those people who never pays more than 50% percent for anything!” Tlc has really disgusted me in the last few years! Look how they portray Ga people. Most of the mayonnaise, mustard, and toothpaste hoarding people are from Ga. Then of course you have the ridiculous Honey Bo-Bo from Macon Ga, who by the way got to be on tv from a combination of Extreme couponers and Toddlers and Tiaras. Finally you have the All American Gypsies which have a lot of gypsies from Douglasville and Cobb County ga. Sad thing is most of the gypsies I know, and I know a lot, are very hard working and good people. I have actually met some of these producers for TLC as well, and they aren’t even from America. Their British!! TLC should stick with actual Learning Programs. Then again people I actually live in Dunwoody Ga. The town where Ryan Seacrest came from, and he created the Kardashians?! Sorry America!!

    • Shanna

We forgive you and your town but not Ryan Seacrest for creating the Kardashians!

    • Denise

Well, it looks like Kroger does plan to do away with double coupons here in GA. I’m near Stone Mountain, and the Loganville Kroger is set to discontinue them Sept 8th. I haven’t checked my Kroger, but it’s probably the same all over. I used to love shopping Kroger, but I’ll definitely be shopping Publix and Ingles more. Too bad. I had started getting all my gas from them, too, because of the discount.

I agree with you on all the TLC programs. The media has always portrayed Southerners as stupid crackers. I’m from here and it really burns me up. Don’t these people see that they’re making an epic fool of themselves and others? You never see shows like this from other countries. If America would stop watching these idiots, they wouldn’t keep finding new ones to put on display.

  32. Maggie

Well first of all a store should not raise their prices just because they take coupons!!!! I know for a fact that the store gets their money back on them!!! The Double coupon brings in business and should be handled easier than it is!!! Yes I know you have your select people who try to abuse the rules and makes it rough on those of us who just want to save! Because every penny counts in my house!!!!! The thing that gets me when you go to check out some cashiers go into panic mode because you have alot of coupons and it causes havic! Well all personnel that is trained to run a register should be trained on coupons it will make for an easier check-out experience!!! And some stores act like your stealing because you use coupons on a sale item!! They can do what we do too!!!!! It all boils down to greed and dealing with changes that benefit them what about the customer without them you don’t have a business!!!! You will loose business because I know I will go where the best bargain is and someone who takes my coupons without a hasle! I’ve been doing coupons for years and have no plans to stop anytime soon!!! I save to much money!!! But don’t get me wrong Krogers if you lower your prices and I can really save more by using my Kroger card than my coupons Bring it on!!!!!

  33. Frugal Barb

I did forget an additional comment about the Kroger cease of double coupons, the EBT sales will still be good at the store. Those sales somehow can purchase steak/lobster which rarely can be on my grocery shopping list.

  34. hunterbg

I live in Kentucky, and I’ve been scared to look and see if we are on the list to be cut. I primarily shop at Kroger, because the only other option is Wal-Mart (booo!) and out Target does not have many groceries. I can say that I’m thankful we have a Meijer coming in soon, because that seems like it will be my salvation. I don’t think couponing has hurt my Kroger locally as they have just started remodeling our store. I will be sad if I cannot shop there anymore. I have been very successful with my couponing there, and I agree that it will be hard to purchase some of the items that we have now grown accustomed to thanks to our coupons. I just hope we aren’t on the list until Meijer comes to town. I don’t know what I’m going to do, other than be thankful that I just recently stocked up on some staple items that we will live off of if we have to.

  35. Danielle

Here in Arizona, they took away doubling for a while maybe a year ago or so, but it did not last long. We were only without the doubling for a few months before it was back. Hope this happens for you too!

  36. angie

I will find another place to shop if they do this. And i have shopped at Kroger for 31 years. Their sales combined with coupons is the reason I shop there.!

  37. Andrea

I am in Athens, OH, and I only go to Kroger for meat and to use coupons. I will definitely be shopping more at Aldis when this plan gets implemented. Sad times.

  38. pauline

We do not have a Kroger store here in Evansville, In., but we do have Ruler Foods which sells Kroger brands and only a few brand name items. It’s been great for us since basically there wasn’t much competition for other grocers to offer double or triple coupons, which now occasionally happens. Several friends have commented that, for the most part, their families prefer the Kroger brands. And the savings have been significant! This is great because it has become difficult to use recently expired coupons and waiting for a good deal or the double or triple coupon days is not always feasible. I just wish the manufacturers would extend their expiration dates.

  39. Robin

I live in Arizona so there is no change as of yet. But, I used to be able to reduce my grocery bill by about 60% savings (with coupons, sale prices, etc.), and now it is about 40% savings. I think in general grocery prices are high and the coupons that are out there are not for items I buy. I use fewer coupons each time I shop. So, if they are going to lower prices and have better ads for things like produce and meat and dairy, I really don’t care about the not doubling of coupons. I’ll take lower prices anyday.

  40. Elizabeth

Please do as I did and go to the Kroger facebook page and let them know your thoughts about them eliminating doubling coupons!!! They are in fact using my area (Dayton/Cincy) OH as a test market and it is VERY possible they will make this change in your area as well if you have Kroger stores. There are TONS of comments on their wall already and I feel any bit can help in this situation to let them know how displeased many of us are about this change. PLEASE let them know how you feel 🙂 Thanks!

    • Ger

What are they testing this time?..they did this in Houston almost 2 years ago, there’s nothing in it for the consumer, except to pay more. Lower prices? Not. They claim they have lowered prices, but I see the lower price tag price on some items and remember the normal price 2 weeks earlier was lower without the tag. Don’t let ’em fool you.

More money off for gas by spending more? Sorry, I can’t eat gas. And I already get .03 off a gallon for not having to buy anything. 10% off wine? Sorry, don’t drink.

  41. Rae

All I have to say is look at what JCP did a year ago! They said to better the customers experience they would do away with coupons and sales. Not a year later they emailed coupons to hundreds of customers… and now they are promising to start sales again. I noticed in that year the qualit of products there was getting worse and I was finding better items and prices at Target.

    • Anne

JCP is exactly what came to my mind when I heard about Kroger. I quit shopping there too. I also don’t miss it!

    • Dee

I agree as well…. as a FORMER JCP avid shopper quit w them after they began their new promotion – no savings at all even though I loved their new spokes person Ellen. I took up w Macy’s where I’ve never shopped with them in the last 5 yrs always relying on my previous savings for so many years at Christmas time. I am a loyal Kroger’s shopper regardless if a mega event is going on or not….. but ALWAYS plan on bigger savings when these ads going on several shopping trips within their 2 wk promotion. I never got to experience the triple coupons since they did away w them a year before I started using coupons from the result of a unfortunate layoff with my employer of over 10 yrs. This helped our family’s budget out tremendously with only receiving unemployment making up the difference. After I heard this announcement on the double policy, I called my Louisville, KY home Kroger to make sure my store was not one of the 118 having a good relationship with all the staff there. As of now, we aren’t but makes me wonder if our region will be next in the future down the pike. If double Q’s are taken away, I don’t do Meijer’s at all…. the new exception will be the drug stores like Walgreens or CVS w their rewards program. An example being from my shopping trip at my local Walgreens this morning… I purchased 3 twelve pack waters, 6 bags of tostito’s chips, 3 tostito’s queso dip, a big bottle of TreSemme shampoo & conditioner, a good & natural bar, 3 twelve pack of Cottonelle toilet paper and Poise towelette’s saving 100%. It takes more time to work these deals and with no produce available there – Aldi’s is definitely a great alternative for those items shopping there many years before coupons and still do for certain items time to time. Starting my new plan concept just in case our area gets the doubles taken away as well, it’s sad to think as my family & friends always joke with me that I should of bought stock in Kroger as much as I enjoy shopping there.

  42. Robin

I guess I’ll start shopping somewhere else!!

  43. Dara

Doesn’t seem like it worked for JC Penny!

  44. Brooke

Wow!! I just gasped when I read this. I am so saddened to hear about Krogers! I love Kroger and really enjoy doing my shopping there. I understand how they would want to try out a test market here in Cincy/NKY with no-doubling, but still NOT FAIRRRR. From the comments of others, it seems like many of the Kroger’s aren’t doubling anyway. I really hope that the prices are LOWER and it still makes sense to shop there. I hope they don’t end up like JCP, because I pretty much stopped shopping there altogether!

This change will make me want to shop at Meijers and other grocery stores that still double the coupons. After all, it is only the ones up to 50 cents. Kroger has done this for so long, it is sad that they feel it is necessary to stop now.

I live in ohio and just started really getting into couponing in october. I have 6 children and the money I have saved since couponing has been a blessing. I do all of my couponing at krogers. I will no longer shop at krogers if they stop doubling coupons. I think I will try Aldi.

I knew it was coming. Hasn’t happened in AR yet but I am sure by the end of the year it will. The memphis stores in AR still double to 60 cents, accept unlimited internet and manufacturer coupons and kroger card coupons. The other stores only double to 50 cents, don’t take internet coupons and don’t honor kroger card coupons I heard.

Hope this does not affect us here in S. IL we are in the area called Mid-south. The cashiers here are telling me that they have been given new “coupon” rules from higher up that they can take ONLY 2 internet printed coupons per order, not 2 of one item 2 PERIOD. So far no one is pushing it but we will see, if so I give up on them

Kroger in California (Ralph’s) did away with double coupons a couple of years ago. No, the “lower” prices did not make up for it. I’m a grocerygame.com shopper and have the spreadsheet to prove it. They replaced double coupons with a cash-back, which they have now replaced with the gasoline discount so now I save $2 at the pump vs. the $12 (at least) I used to get back. The card-carrying shopper perks are getting lower and lower. Shame on you, Kroger.

I get it…and first of all it was a gift. Krogers didn’t have to give us and they have realized they can’t anymore. I’d rather see that program discontinued rather than stores close or people fired!! It stinks of course and I may end up shopping at Meijer instead for a few deals, but I still love my Krogers!
