They have received NUMEROUS negative reviews that the company is a scam as far as people sending in good, quality clothing and getting little or nothing in return. I am sure that the buyers can get a pretty good deal, but it sounds like it could be at the cost of the person who sent it in.
Not a scam! I got $70 for my clothes even though they only took maybe ten items out of my bag of 15-20. I placed an order last week and will be sending in more when my bag arrives.
I was very disappointed in what I got from them. I had even had some brand new with tag shoes from Babies R Us in the bag and they said they didn’t want them because of the brand, but they sell worse brands in my opinion. Wondering what they do with the stuff “they don’t accept” sell later when the seller isn’t paying attention? I don’t know just very disappointing in my experience with them!
I have sold to them once and bought from them several times. I think, like anything, it depends on your expections. In my experience their acceptance policies and payout are similar to that of Once Upon a Child. I think the difference is when you sell to OUaC or regular consigment stores it’s an in-person transaction so if you’re unhappy with what they’re offering you can take your items back and sell them through another venue. Until recently once you’d sent something to ThredUp it was gone, regardless of whether they bought it from you or not, which I think left a lot of sellers feeling like they’d gambled and lost.
If you buy a lot of designer/name brand clothing for your children and you’re hoping the resale value will help recoup some of your expense then you’re probably better off with eBay or consignment. I get great deals on my daughters clothing and I’m happy with what I’ve paid even if the items are literally worthless after she’s outgrown them. Sending things off to ThredUp is a lot easier than eBay/Craigslist/Once Upon a Child and since I’m not expecting anything for the stuff that I can no longer use I view it as free money.
I looked at the results of the bag I sent in before and it looks like they generally pay out 10-25% of what they’re planning to sell the item for. I’m not sure how they decide the percentage – maybe it’s based on season/how fast they anticipate the item selling? You can also go to their website and view bags others have sent in and what they received for each item to get an idea of what you may expect.
I just prepared another bag a couple days ago and I noticed that they’ve updated their acceptance terms. I think they’re getting more clear about what brands and flaws (including pet hair) they won’t accept. They’ve also recently implemented a Return Assurance program, where for $9.99/bag they will return any items to you that they choose not to accept.
Just got a pair of Silver Jeans for 2.99 shipped. This is my favorite brand and they retail $60-90 new. Thanks, Collin!!

I got a pair of womens gap skinny jeans for $2.99 shipped since they were $14.49. I have ordered from them before but just kids clothes and the $15 off code still worked. I was actually looking at their site to buy a dress I needed for an upcoming wedding I am invited to and their prices are quite reasonable on most, some are overpriced. They probably have a list to go by according to brand to set the prices, I am not sure how much they take the style into account. Some of the dresses would be cheaper to buy from them than to bid on ebay and it seems you can count on the quality being good from thredup where it can be a gamble with ebay. I bet they have success selling womens clothing.
I saw that this is for “new users” only! I ordered an item and set up an account with a new email address. After placing the order it said my order was “flagged” because it is against policy to have multiple accounts. Ummm.. wow! If they would allow people who had accounts prior to their women’s line being released use this promo as well we wouldn’t run into this problem. Grr!

This happened to me and I emailed customer service and told them that I wanted to use the new email address I entered as my primary account. They were very nice about it and merged my two accounts and let me keep the discount 🙂 I’ve been very happy with their customer service, shipping turnaround, and quality of all of the items I’ve purchased!

I agree with a few of the comments above about selling your items. I have sent in a few bags and its hit or miss with what they take and what they don’t. The first bag I sent I thought they were very fair. The second was priced out much lower. I also noticed a lot of items weren’t being marked as new with tag even though they were (meaning they weren’t giving me as much for them). But, it is easy to do which is probably why I continue to sell to them. I wouldn’t expect a huge payout though. I have definitely made more when I take the time to go to a local consigning store. Just something to think about if you plan to sell to them.
