Glass Half Full and Meet Murray…
To be quite honest, I really don’t have any low to speak of this week. However, I am trying to focus on waking up each day and not taking any moments for granted. So on those days when I wake up in not the most cheery of moods, I remind myself of all the little things that I have to be grateful for. The glass is always half full.
As for my high this week, it is most definitely the lovable furry creature pictured above and below. Meet Murray – the newest addition to our family. We were lucky enough to bring Murray home earlier this week from the Idaho Humane Society – he is a 6-year-old lab who loves to go on runs, play in the water and of course, lay around the house. We are all having a blast with our new dog! 🙂
[h2s_box]Every Wednesday, I share my high(s) and low(s) for the past week and I encourage you to do the same in the comment section below. My high(s) will simply be the best or most exciting thing that happened to me over the last week or so and my low(s) will be something not so great that took place. [/h2s_box]
Murray is gorgeous. Dogs are my passion!
Thanks, Sondra!
Murray, let me be the first to WELCOME you to the Hip family! You have a great, frugal and savvy mommy – I’m sure she will find some great “deals” on the BEST food for you! Welcome Murray, you couldn’t be with a better family! xoxo
I sure appreciate your comment! 🙂
Such great news Collin! Thank you for saving a precious animal and welcome to your new family Murray. I’m sure you’ll have a blast!
We sure are! This is our first family dog so it is very exciting for everyone. 🙂
Cute! I am so excited for you. After 3 months away from my dog he is being shipped tomorrow from my old home in California to my new home in Texas!!! It is for sure a glass half full Wednesday for me. 🙂
Yay! So excited for ya! 🙂
From the picture of the two together I would have never guessed he just became a family member. Looks like he has been there since day one! What a lucky boy! Labs are the best dogs! Congratulations!
AWW, we have a 6 year old chocolate lab as well. Her name is Tango and she is the best doggie ever! Can’t go wrong with a chocolate 🙂 Enjoy him.
We also have a 6 year old chocolate lab named Daisy! They really are the best family dog!!
My German Sheperd Bailey is the best, smartest and prettiest dog inthe world. I tell him that everyday. For all you dog lovers that like to read Dean Koontz wrote a book as a tribute to his dog Trixie. A big little life. I bought the book on a Saturday and stayed up all nigt reading it until I finished it. My dog is really really smart, but at one point when I was reading it in bed and Baikey was laying next to me I said to him I think there is a dog smarter than you out there. It was a really good book and of course sad at the end.
Congrats on the new doggy! Thanks for going through the humane society! Two thumbs up!!!
Congratulations! What a beautiful addition. I wish you many years of happiness.
Congrats on the new family member! Happy to see someone adopt an older dog. Not many are lucky enough to get a new family.
Awwww…labs are awesome and chocolates have the craziest personalities! We LOVE ours 🙂 Enjoy such a great addition!
May Murray settle in to his fur-ever home and you find the “complete” that we have found with our big guy! I thought my dog was lucky when we rescued him but along the way, it was us that were the lucky ones! Gorgeous Murray!
Aww!! Labs are the best! I love my yellow lab, hope you enjoy your new pup!
Awe! Our lab is like our 2nd child, well first really she’s almost 5 and soo loveable and super smart and very protective over our 1.5 year old. When she was a newborn I had her in a bassinet in our room and anytime it would storm or she would start to cry josey would be right there on the bed watching over her
He is beautiful! You all will have so much fun! Dogs are fantastic for your mood, how can you be sad when you see that face!
Congrats on the new addition! And THANK YOU for adopting!!!
I can’t tell you how much I admire and appreciate the fact that you adopted an older dog from the humane society. So many furry friends who are a little older get passed up for kittens and puppies.
What a beautiful dog, he looks so gentle on the couch, I bet he’ll be so happy with you and your family.
Awwww ….he is adorable! Congrats
So cute! Our first and only family pet, a bunny died this week. I don’t think we’ll get any more pets for a while. It was too hard for this momma to see the kids so sad : (
I am sorry to hear about your bunny. Losing a pet is hard
It’s hard. I’m so sorry. I think it is very wise to wait for another pet. When my eleven-year-old beagle died, I was heartbroken. Maybe out of habit or maybe he didn’t realize she was gone, but my then-three-year-old son told her her good-bye every time we left the house. It was like a knife through the heart. I felt like we had this huge, empty dog space in our lives and that kids should be raised with pets, plus I just felt safer with a dog around (even a beagle 🙂 ), so we got a “rebound beagle” from a shelter two months later. Mistake. We just never could bond with her (something I still can’t fathom), and she simply destroyed my house and refused to consistently go outside for three years. I am ashamed to say that when she ran away while we were visiting my MIL, it was something of a relief. Good luck–and be sure to wait for the right pet.
Congrats on the new family member. Pets add so much to your life and I love seeing a rescue get a home.
Congrats on your new family member!! I recently adopted a Phalene (drop-eared papillon) and she’s changed my life so much for the better. Shelter pups come in needing love, but they give so much more than they ever ask for.
Congratulations on the new addition. Kudos to the HIP family for adopting from a shelter and saving a life. It looks like it was the perfect match.
He’s sooo cute!!!
That is great idea to bring furry family from Humane Society !
My furry family is Cairn Terrier, and I love him. You can adopt Cairn Terrier from Cairn Terrier Rescue !!!
Thank you ore adopting! I work with 2 different rescue groups, one of which is Labs4Rescue. Murray is beautiful, and is going to be so happy there! Thank you!
I love your new family member and I hope they have another deal like where you get $100 in free dog food and treats like two years ago! That would be great for Murray and for you! 🙂
so happy for you and for Murray!! Rescued dogs are the best. Thanks also for reminding me to be thankful for everything I have. Love your site and the great deals I have had with you over the past three years.
Kudos to your family for adopting an older dog! He is adorable!!
Collin – from the bottom of our hearts, my rescue dog and I thank you for adopting a shelter dog. I rescued my dog (and he rescued me) ten years ago. My life has never been the same. That is one lucky dog. Welcome home Murray! p.s. cannot believe how big your little one is. 🙁 It happens so fast.
I agree! My shelter dog rescued me 6 years ago and I think we’re both the happiest because of it. I believe that rescue dogs love a little more because they are forever appreciative! 🙂
He’s beautiful!
What an adorable dog! He is so lucky to have a family and a place to call home!
Congrats on your new addition Collin! Our 15 years old choco lab mix passed away last Thursday. She was adopted from animal shelter when she was a pup. Now she is pain-free and lives in my heart forever.
Murray is a beautiful dog! I adopted my red mini dachshund, Lillie from the Brazoria county SPCA in Angleton, TX. We’ve had her for 11 1/2 yrs. now and she is the ripe old age of 13. I have raised her with my kids. Now, they are grown and she is old. She has been such a joy in our lives.
Congrats to you and to Murray! He looks like a beautiful, gentle soul!!
He is cute! Congrats! He looks like he is fitting in with the family so well.
Love your Murray! I also applaud you adopting an older dog! We adopted our Chi mix 5 years ago at the approx age of 6. She’s now around 11 & has been with us through cross country moves, 2 kids, & more. And although it hasn’t always been easy with her (she was abused, is deaf, and has collapsing trachea), she is a valued member of our family. Looks like Murray is already one in yours too! I hope you have many more good years with him!
Congrats on the newest addition, and that’s great that you adopted! I’ve volunteered at shelters for over ten years and wish I could adopt them all. Murray’s found a great family with kids to play with and I’m sure you’ll be finding lots of discounts on treats, toys and all kinds of goodies! Also, adopting from a shelter is actually a great money saver as well, as they are generally already spayed or neutered, microchipped, and have all their vaccinations for an adoption fee that would be much less than if you had to pay a vet for those services.
I’m so happy you decided to adopt and not shop!!! You rock, Collin!!!
Yayyy for labs! My chocolate lab is passed out next to me right now 🙂
Yay to you guys for ADOPTING and not buying a puppy. Millions of beautiful dogs are killed each year at Animal shelters and I’m so glad you guys adopted. 🙂 I’m hoping other Hip2savers see how handsome Murray is and consider adopting instead of buying too. Woo hoo for Murray!
Enjoy your new addition – i’m sure your kids are soooo excited.
Murray is super cute and looks so lovable!
I’m so happy for your family! We have three dogs, and they are a major part of why I’m so frugal– so I can afford to feed them! Ha! My three-year-old son loves his fur sisters! Here’s to many years ahead with your new fella! 🙂
Melanie says it best. So happy that you adopted a shelter dog. Murray is beautiful!
I was having a bad moment until I saw the beautiful picture of your dog. He’s super cute! Congrats! Dogs are the most loving pets to have!
My low is that something is wrong with my hearing aids…and I can’t for the life of me figure out how both went out at once!!! Never in my entire life had one mess up, and now both are messed up- so odd. So, I’m having to miss work until Friday which is the earliest they could get me in to look at them, because apparently I can’t just drop them off for them to diddle with. I’m an ER doc so I can’t just work without them. The high is I get to be at home with the litter (6 kids and counting! We’re working on a Cheaper by the Dozen thing) while I’m missing work. No sharing them with the husband! 🙂
Love the name (our last name is Murray, as well:) ). THANK YOU for rescuing a pet.
Collin, I love that your keeping it real. I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t always wake up cheery 😉 The new addition definitely looks like he’s been there since he was a we lad. Adorable!
Just bought a new printer in hopes of getting more coupons from airprint and to replace my decaying printer. Ummm… 3 hours later and I got the pc to print but not my mobile devices. Staying at home with the kids has made me dumb lol. I love them but I need some classes on technology, following instructions and patience. Ugh!
Call the printer company they will walk you through setting it up. I sometimes have to reset my router for it to work. I had the same problem but they were so helpful.
What a lucky dog! Thank you for adopting him. We all know you have a big heart, Collin!!
Welcome Murray … Adorable photo:)
I just want to hug you for adopting a shelter dog. I work with a lot of my local shelters and do as much transporting and volunteering as I can. I’ve worked in animal control and have been a foster momma to lots of special dogs. My very first rescue passed away last week and this post brought tears to my eyes. I wish more people would understand how AMAZING shelter dogs are. I rescued an older chocolate lab a few years ago, and he was literally the most appreciate, thankful, loving soul I’ve ever met. He was such a great friend. Sorry to get all mushy, but thank you for spreading the love and maybe changing someone’s mind about shelter dogs.
