Request FREE CFL Light Bulbs (Select States Only)

Did you know that one of the easiest ways to lower your energy bill is by replacing your standard bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs)!? They use 75 % less energy and last 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs! As I posted back in July, you may be able to request completely FREE CFL Light Bulbs (and more!) from your energy company…awesome!

In fact, Hip2Save reader, Linda, emailed to let me know that she recently received a package full of CFL lightbulbs, night lights, AND a surge protector completely FREE from First Energy solutions (located in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, or New Jersey). If you reside in one of these states, head over here and click on your state to see if you qualify for any special offers.

Keep in mind that this special CFL bulb offer may not be listed so you will want to contact your First Energy company directly by phone to see if you might qualify. For example, Linda lives in Ohio and called 1-888-522-3880 to request the FREE CFL bulbs. Please also note that many energy companies are offering up rebates on your CFL purchases so be sure to check their web-sites for more information. And, if you’re a Duke Energy customer, go here for details on how to request FREE CFL’s.

Here is what her FREE package included:

*One great surge protector that you can close unused outlets to keep kids safe
*Two nightlights
*Two 20 watt spiral bulbs
*Three 26 watt spiral bulbs
*Four 13 Watt spiral bulbs

Have any of you applied for these free bulbs from your energy company? Let us know!

(Thanks, Linda!)

I’m in NJ and called the number listed in this post. They said I would have to call JCP&L to see if they have a similar program. 🙁 Figures since I have to run out

We did this offer through Ohio Edison. Our bill for the month after recieving the kit was over a $100 more then normal. After that our bill was back to normal.

    • Kim

You are saying that they charged you$100 more cuz you got these? Did you call? What’d they say?

  4. Angela F

Anyone know if there are any offers like this one in Texas?

  5. Shelley

I encourage everyone to check with their local power company because it really goes beyond bulbs! My local power company offers rebates on a new refridgerator, HVAC units, and more! There’s nothing more stomach churning than when you find an appliance like the ‘fridge down. Imagine our surprise when a kind gentleman told us to check with our power company. Guess what? They hauled away the old one for proper recycling and I got $100! Which as you know is awesome especially when you are looking at the expense of a new one! Hey, every little bit helps, but if you find yourself in the same pickle (or maybe was just in it recently), check into it! A few seconds of your time could turn into cash!

    Anything in GA?

    • Jesse

GA Power took my old fridge away and paid me for it. Give them a call to see what they have going on right now.

I have found that the towns that only use Entergy in Arkansas has 4 packs if Walmart CFL lights for only $1.88 it is a savings provided by Entergy. I noticed the price in Flippin, Ar but in Mountain Home the have other electric companies in addition to Entergy so the price is not lower there.

My company does not offer any free energy saving products.I have Green Mountain Energy in New York. They are pollution free energy 10%wind 90% hydro.

      6.97, you mean?

      • tilla ham

the link says 4.97 for me:)

    • Megan

      Thanks, 97¢ for me too!

    • Emily

I think the electric company subsidizes the price of them so pricing may vary per area. They’re .97 cents for me. I’ve bought them in store and online for months now.

    • Kristen

They are $0.97 for me too. Cool! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  9. Ashley

I’m also in Ohio. Just called, they said it would be sent within 4-6 weeks and they confirmed that there is no charge. Thanks Linda & Colin!

We received ours a few weeks ago. My husband said that the surge protector easily goes for $30 retail!! It was a nice “mail” day 😀

Does Florida have anything like this?

    • Ashley57

FPL does not. It depends on who your power company is. Here are all the programs/rebates FPL has: https://www.fpl.com/residential/energy_saving/programs/index.shtml. We have On Call at our home. We save like $10 a month, and we have never noticed FPL turn off our air conditioning or heater. It is awesome! We have had it for more than two years.

      • maggiemoogirl@yahoo.com

Thank you, I’ll check into this.

      • Siggy

We have on call too. It saves us some $$$

      • Mini

Thank you, I just signed up!

I live in WV, and just called. They go by income, but their income limit is really high for the amount of people who live in the household. But they said they would send me a form that I would have to fill out with proof of income first. Did anyone else have to do this?

  13. NICOLE

We are in PA and got ours over a year ago. They also paid us $50 to take away our old refrigerator. All we had to do was call them and set up an appointment for them to pick it up. Easy!

The costco’s in Maryland have energy efficient bulbs on sale due to a Pepco instant rebate. 4 pack of 60Watt equivalents are 89Cents. Limit 6 per card.

  15. crzycpnldy

I got the same kit in the mail a couple weeks ago. Mine also had some sort of whistle you put on your furnace filter so you know when to replace it. Also, in the Cleveland area if you qualify for the pipp or heap program, they have a program called the electric partnership program, they will replace your old refrigerator with a brand new energy efficient one! I got a brand new refrigerator and my parents got one also. It depends on if they have the funds at the time but worth checking into!!!
