Target electronics trade-in program

Do you have any old electronics hanging around that still work?! If so, you may want to take note of Target’s Electronics Trade-in Program. Simply bring in your qualifying devices (over 20,000 devices are accepted – iPhones, iPads, Cameras, Tablets, Calculators and much more!) to a participating Target or trade them online and score Target gift cards in exchange for your items. To find out what each item may be worth, head over here and click on the correct Trade-In Category, input your information and you will receive an estimate of your trade in value.

Even sweeter, through November 9th, visit your local Target Mobile store and trade in ANY iPad (the iPad must power on and the screen must not be scratched to qualify!) for a minimum of a $200 Target Trade-In Gift Card redeemable in any Target store.

This is awesome information, Collin..Thank you…Thank you…Thank you! Please continue posting good technology deals esp. for Ultrabooks and the IPad mini… 😉

    • Case

Awesome! Now where did I put that smartphone?! Just followed the link, said I should get 37$ back. Which is awesome since I paid 1 penny for the phone!

  2. Linz

Also, this week at Target, get gift cards when you purchase an iPad. Use your Target RedCard to get 5% off your order instantly, as well!

  3. Happymama

It would be a good deal for the IPad trade in but for the rest of my technology they would only pay me a few dollars:(. Either way…thanks for sharing!

    • Case

Few dollars is better than nothing, especially if it is just sitting in a drawer collecting dust:) but I agree some aren’t worth much

  4. Tralanea

    I would so do this…IF I didn’t have a crack across my iPad 2 screen. 🙁

  5. Joe

Where can I find the page that says **any iPad?

    • Joe

      I found it..

  6. Brandy

$5 for a 2nd gen Ipod touch in perfect condition? They are selling used on Ebay for $50. No thanks, Target.

    • Brandy

$58 for a 4th gen 32 GB. Sold one last week on Ebay for $150.

      • Heather

My iPod 4th gen is like new and they only offered me $43. Yikes!

  7. Jennie

We just traded in our iPad 1 and got $200 target gift card! It’s a really good deal especially since the iPad 1 doesn’t update anymore and I thought we were stuck with it.

    • Brea

I’m surprised you get $200 for Ipad 1. I just tried to see what I would get for mine that’s in perfect condition, and the online calculator said $65.

      • Lori

Even sweeter, through November 9th, visit your local Target Mobile store and trade in ANY iPad (the iPad must power on and the screen must not be scratched to qualify!) for a minimum of a $200 Target Trade-In Gift Card redeemable in any Target store.

        • Sarah

Agreed Brea, you will need to take it in to the store and you should be able to get it!

      • LynnNV

        Brea – The $200 GC is for an “in-store only” trade-in. 🙂

    • D

I have an ipad 2 that won;t update anymore, too. This might be a great alternative to shoving it in a drawer! Do you just factory reset it before you trade in?

      • Stephanie

Yes. If you don’t reset it, they will do that before sending it to the trade-in center, but I would be safe and reset it at the store once your trade-in has been approved.

      • Rae

Factory reset is always a good idea when getting rid of electronics AND double check all personal information is cleared!

  8. Marlene

It says my iPhone 4S in perfect condition isn’t worth anything? Lol

    • Sarah

Weird, I just did mine (4s, 32, black) and it says $140

  9. Emilie

Can you trade in your ipad for $200 if it has a crack on the top of the screen?

    • Stephanie

No. The iPad must power on and the screen MUST NOT be scratched to qualify. A crack is way worse than a scratch.

  10. Jennifer G.

What would be awesome is if places accepting electronic trade-ins checked the serials #s against the ones that people have reported lost/stolen! I bet I have a device or 2 that would be found…I sure miss my old digital camera =(

    • makaylaisabel

I so don’t agree with this. um, people lose stuff all the time… Finders keepers, right?
Those who steal also resell so then how is it your fault that you bought something that you didn’t know was stolen. Keep your precious items close to you or locked to avoid them getting stolen.

      • Farrah

“Finders keepers?” No. That’s dishonest and unethical. No one plans to accidentally leave their things or have someone take them. Maybe that’s just my southern manners speaking, but I believe in treating others the way you want to be treated.

      • Aysha

The apple store always checked serial numbers to check for lost / stolen iPads. It’s a great practice! You’d be surprised what people try to geta way with! And finders keepers was such a three year old comment!

        • Nichole

I was really surprised that they didn’t check the id on the iPad we traded in. So I asked what keeps people from just bringing in any iPad, meaning not registered to that individual, he said nothing… they dont check that the Ipad was yours to begin with…

  11. Jill

Darn I traded mine in to them last week and only for $125!

    • JoAnna

You should ask them if they will credit the extra $75–always worth a try!!

  12. Elaine

What is a “Target Trade-In Gift Card”? If I trade an ipad in at the store, do I get a $200 gift card to target that I can use for anything, or do I need to buy another technology?

    • Stephanie

You can use it towards anything. The guy who helped me with my trade in made sure to let me know that.

  13. Tarin

Ok boys and girls. Do not use the online calculator, this is in store only and has work for 100 of people since sunday. And at this time ymmv but most stores country wide are giving you a target master card and not requiring you to buy an iPad. some do but you can return it straight away too. This is not a target gc it’s a little different but you can use it on anything in store but apparently you need some fan dangling to get it to work online. People have report being able to use it on amazon. You must go to a store with a target mobile though. Hope that helps!
there is a code to do this online and ship it in but not your best bet

  14. Jessica A

Yay! I am still using a first gen Ipad that can not update and keeps crashing. I thought I would have to wait a long time for a new one; with this I should be able to save the gift card and get a mini in a few weeks maybe 🙂

  15. Eve

I did this on Sunday. Took in an iPad 1 that my toddler uses. Got the 200. Pricematched the mini to microcenter. 94 dollars out of pocket AND a 25 dollar gift card back too.

    • Sami

Where are you finding the Mini at microcenter… I am unable to find the AD. Thanks!

  16. Mae :o)

    Nice! Thanks H2S.

  17. Emma

Does Target price match SAMs club. According to Red Laser they have the 32Gb iPad mini for $374.

    • Nicole

Target will not match to Sams club. It says so on their price match policy

  18. Katie

Can this be redeemed at EVERY Target store??

  19. andrea

Hmmm – says $75 when I check the original ipad. Maybe that’s in store only and the quotes don’t reflect that?

    • Aysha

You can’t expect the $200 to show up online, it is an in-stores event . Go to the store and they issue you a $200 gc. Easy as pie.

    • Mariana

I also checked on the website and the value was very low. However, my husband went to Target this morning and was able to get the $200 gift card for our ipad 1, no questions asked. He was happy and used the gift card to buy a new tablet 🙂

      • Andrea

I went too and got $200 for my iPad 1. Used the gift card for the mini and the $25 gift card for a case (which was not a good one – keep your wrapper folks). Great for a tablet that couldn’t be upgraded any more, has no camera and the apps crash constantly.

  20. Jenn

Just got back from target. Did the trade with the original ipad and received a $200 gift card. Bought the ipad mini for $299.00 and got a $25 gift card for purchasing the mini. Great deal. Paid $130 out of pocket and got the $25 gift card. Thanks Collin.
Btw, the target mobile guys said once the gift card run out they are done.

  21. Dana

Do you get a gift card for purchasing an iPad air?

    • LynnNV

I didn’t see the GC offer on the iPad Air price tags. So I’m thinking no. Bummer too! The GC offer ends Saturday. 🙁

    • Sandy

No, there’s no gift card for the air. I just went tonight to trade my iPad 1st generation for the gift card and bought the iPad air 32gb . Still a good deal considering I got 200 for a old iPad

  22. LynnNV

Just got back from Target. Traded in my husband’s 32GB 1st generation iPad. Told him about the offer & got a thumbs up because we won’t be able to get $200 even if we sold it. If you have an older generation iPad this is the way to go. I received a Target GC good for anything in the store. We’re not sure if we’ll buy a replacement iPad or use the GC towards Christmas gifts. Although the GC offer for buying another iPad is tempting. Thanks for posting this awesome deal Collin & thanks to Emily too. 🙂

  23. Nichole

Worked great for me in Knoxville, TN. Turned in an old iPad 1st generation and they gave me a $200 gift card, no problem. Turned around and purchased a new iPad mini. Pleased as can be! Thanks Collin

  24. Molly

Does anyone know if you can trade more than one per household, or are there no restrictions?

    • Jenn

      Limit is 2

      • Molly

Fabulous! That is all we needed.

  25. Nicole

Traded in my iPhone 4S and got $135 and got $200 for my iPad, bought the 32 mini for 399.00 after I price matched to walmart. Great deal!

    • Lynn

With the price matching did you still receive the $25 GC?

      • Michelle

I traded in my iPad 1 and got $200. Price matched the iPad mini for $299
(from Walmart) and got the $25 gift card. I also had a 5% off for prescription rewards! Great deal, thanks!

  26. Angela

Just got $200 for my baby’s ipad 1 16 gb. That things battery was dying now we will be able to get a retina mini and the baby can have my mini. As always thank you Collin!

  27. Randi

On Friday morning I called around to see when the Target Mobile dept opened. One location was 11am and another 12 noon. So I arrived at 10:20am with 1 person at front of line. We waited with 30 other people behind us gathering. At 11am, 2 store managers started staring at us. Target did not have gift cards or Mobile employee. At 11:30am, the Target security guard showed up to watch the line. Then we were told the Mobile guy called in sick. Target Mobile is operated by a 3rd party so Target has no control. At 12:05pm, UPS guy showed up with box of 50 Target trade-in cards. Store manager distributed the cards to us in line. Manager told us that there was Mobile person at 2 nearby Targets. Half of us went to one Target which had Mobile person but had not received delivery of gift cards. I was 5th person in line at that store at 12:40pm. Mobile employee was present in the back on a conference call. At 1:10pm Mobile guy showed up. Finally had my turn and left with gift card at 1:40pm.
I had returned my ipad 1 to factory settings before leaving this morning. The guy was able to power on and screen was in good condition. They copy the serial number into their computer. They check that the ipad 1 is not from another country and not refurbished. Later in the evening I went to a Star Trek convention near San Francisco which was OK but not as cool as Las Vegas convention. I’d love to buy iPad air but every store is out and no prediction of next delivery. All of the posts here make it seem so easy and seamless to do the trade in. For me it took 3 hours and 2 Targets. I’m saving gift card to see Christmas deals.
