I was going to get this when I was at Walmart and decided against it after I saw it was just one player. I don’t want to have to purchase 2 in order for my kids to share so I passed on this game.
You can play 2 players, you just have to have 2 controllers and 2 nunchucks.
I play with my child all the time.

We have multiple controllers, etc. The man in the Walmart electronics dept said I would need to purchase 2 since there is something in the game that only works as one player and I would need 2 for 2 player. Plus, the game says it’s just one player. It confuses me…I just need to have my kids figure it out 😉
You have to have 2 figures (from the same disney movie) in order to play 2 player. I think that’s what the guy was trying to say.
That isn’t true. they have to be two characters from the same movie to go into the movies world, i.e. two monsters inc characters to go into the monsters inc world. they can play in the toy box as two characters from different movies. my kids play all the time

Same here. Called my Target and they said a corporate email was sent saying they would not match price b/c it is out of stock on line. Still great deal on Amazon…and I didn’t have to take my kids to store with me 🙂

I had them price match their web price and I used the $5 of 24.99 from the toy book they sent out. (The guy behind the counter said they had price matched wallets all morning.) I’m in Huntsville, AL.

Took Walmarts early bf add to Toys R us for a price match. Did you know that they have to verify that it is in stock before they will give you the price. Oh well it was and I had a gift card that I had gotten a couple of weeks ago for buying gifts and using coupons. I ended up paying 27.00 yea me.

I’ll respond now that you’ve made your purchase — my comment would be useless if you passed on the deal =) I got this for my sister and called her back about the terrible reviews and she was fine with it being a mostly one player game. She has another game that her two boys currently love and only one can play at a time. So this wasn’t a deal breaker for her.
I got this and skylanders swapforce for my boys at target with price match and used $5 coupon on both and used $ 5 off toy purchase from big toy book . The idea of this game just drives me nuts. All it seems to be is marketing. Did you know that you cannot play it straight out of the box??? Nope. You have to buy at least one companion character to the characters in the box. It will not work without 2 characters from the same movie. So this is totally just to get you to buy the extras. If you want to unlock characters in the game, you HAVE to purchase other figures. In order to unlock parts of the game you HAVE to purchase certain accessories.
That being said, this is the ONLY thing my son wanted for Christmas. His sister kept asking for stuff, but he didn’t…just this. He’s 4 and I think he’s too young, but when the $37 deal came up at Wal-mart and we had a free $10 giftcard, we decided to go ahead and get it for him. It was the only thing he wanted and he didn’t even beg. He just says “Look mommy, there’s my game”….although the other day he did tell us that “Santa wanted him to have it”. lol It will really be a family game, but we would NOT have done it had it not been $27, and even then I had to swallow my feelings about it being a totally marketing scheme.
But yes, fair warning, you HAVE to purchase a companion character to one of the characters in the box in order to play in on Christmas.
You mean if you have the starter kit game you can’t play it? Totally lost with all this game stuff and my boy wants it too and I paid full price back when because it was the only thing he wanted too…
I can’t find the original review site that I read, but I researched it more and people are saying that you can’t play 2 player without purchasing a companion character. So the other site might have been wrong. You might be able to play with just the starter kit, but you can’t play two players without buying an extra figure.
She’s wrong it works fine out of the box. If you want two players you’ll need to but more characters. The basic way it works is you but the disc in but you also have a a little portal that plugs in you plug your character into. If you want to play a monsters in game each player must have a monsters in character to play. It comes with sully so if you have two kiddos you would have to buy mike also. If your kids want to play toy story games you will have to buy toy story characters.

I agree! I passed on this and Skylanders since they make you purchase more to play. Drives me crazy. Kinda like Apple and their products.
I agree, we are passing on this as well. Seems stupid to me to have to keep buying more characters to play.
Well, you don’t necessarily have to have more Characters to play but if more then one person wants to play you have to have 2 from the same movie. Also, I’m sure no kid is going to be satisfied with the initial three Characters. With the exception of Sully, they aren’t super popular.
But yeah, I really am trying hard not to regret my purchase. 🙂
they can play in the toy box with two different characters, just not in the character specific world with different characters. my kids still have a blast with it and they love getting new characters

Was able to price match at my local target with there online price but they didn’t allow me to use the 5 off coupon. The lady said coupons can’t be used on price matches. So upset she didn’t let me use it on the actual starter pack. But I used it to get the sidekick figure pack for 25 so I guess it’s ok.
