UPDATE: Please note that this deal may be regional…. so be sure to check your My CVS Weekly Ad to see if it’s advertised in your area. (Thanks, Tiffany!)

Calling all CVS shoppers! Here’s a super *HOT* deal for you (or at least I think so!). Just head on over to your local CVS store where they are offering up a $50 Extrabucks Reward just for purchasing a PayPal Reloadable Prepaid Debit Mastercard for $4.95 (and loading a minimum of $150 on the card). This offer is limited to 1 per household and valid through November 27th only.

What a *HOT* buy since you are basically making a little over $45 (when you subtract the $4.95 fee) to spend at CVS. And as you know, based on all of the great weekly deals, $45 can go very far at CVS!

(Thanks, Kris, Coupons are My Cash and Freebies for a Cause!)

I bought 2 deals using 2 different cvs cards. I activated it online then used it on publix.com to buy gift cards (free shipping). I know you guys are saying limit of 2 per card, but my online ad says “one per household” so I was too nervous to try to do 2 on the same card.

  2. Nb

My cvs manager told me he was told to remove the cards from the shelves.

  3. Kari

The hubs just did this deal at our local CVS (north GA) and it totally worked…the CVS manager was so nice and said he didn’t even know about it and if the ECB didn’t print out he would make it work or issue us a CVS gift card….but fortunately it worked and the manager was so excited he said he was going to do the deal too! Headed to Walmart now to use it on Walmart gift card since we buy our weekly groceries there and gas and then going to cancel it to avoid the monthly fee!! WOOT! WOOT!

  4. nancy

I tried at my cvs but was told they ran out!!Most likely theyvtook them off the shelf.Anybody having a prob?

    • mamascott

I was just at my local CVS and they didn’t even get the cards. So, he issued a rain check. Not everyone got this deal so if it doesn’t print out $50 – he’ll manually make it print out probably in $10s. He wants me to print the deal out so that he knows I really got it in “My Deals”

  5. Denisse

I just went to cvs but they didn’t know anything about this deal, they told me to look in the weekly add and it doesn’t appear there.

  6. Anna

Just an idea for those who cannot use $50 in one transaction. If you are at the age where people are having baby showers, great way to use them up on presents (diapers etc). Also with xmas around the corner, you can buy some toys and use as birthday presents later on.

I”m just curious, what happens when you pay with ECB and have to return an item?

    • steph

Black Friday ad toys are BOGO as well as “As seen on TV items”. Those could rack up $$$. Plus certain CVS sell alcohol and wine. Don’t know if you can purchase with eb’s though.

    • Shayla

if get the money back the method you pay less the ECB back as a money card (ie: merchandise credit/gift card). HTH!

    • debra

THey issue you a CVS gift card. I considered using mine on a large purchase I could return to get back a gift card instead.

  7. Brenda

Not in my weekly ad. Bummer!

  8. Elizabeth

Just went and did this deal in Greenwood, IN and it did work! I purchased it and then used the $50 ECB to purchase a bunch of freebies ($54 worth to be exact). Now I have $46 in broken up into smaller amounts so it is easier to spend! Woohoo! Thanks you 🙂

    • Shayla

Elizabeth, this is exactly what I was going to do. But was told our local store it is not working. Waiting on management tomorrow…hoping they still have freebies left by then =)

  9. Elizabeth

Also, the Greenwood store had a bunch of gift cards!

  10. Ashleigh

Can you use ECBs towards another gift card purchase (different type, such as a restaurant gift card)?

    • Kari

These are the exclusions listed on the ECB: Excludes prescriptions, alcohol, gift cards, lottery, money orders, postage stamps, pre-paid cards & tobacco products. HTH 🙂

      • ola

I was able to use the EBc to buy postage stamps. I thought it wouldnt work either but the cashier wanted to try it. She did and it worked :).

  11. Yvonne

And you can withdraw your money for free at 7-11 ATMs (:
This deal was great my store had plenty

    • kittycatmedia

Can you explain that, Yvonne? You mean you can get 150 out of 7-11 atm?

      • Heather

I got $140 then spent the rest at Walmart (minus the atm fee) since the atm was in multiples of $140 🙂 I threw the $140 back in my night deposit so it would go back into my account before tomorrow so I didn’t overdraft lol DON’T forget to cancel your paypal card acct. after you spend the remaining few dollars (within 30 days) so they don’t start charging you!! You have to cancel because you have to register it online to create a pin # to be able to use it at the atm. The whole process took me less than an hour…small price to pay for the ECB’s ;)- Good luck!

  12. Freddy

Hi all! I took a poster’s advice and checked in my area in metrowest Massachusetts on cvs.com/myweekelyad/inputting my zip code to see if the deal was in my area…it was! ALTHOUGH, on the top of the deal in says, “Valid Nov.24-27″…hmmmm maybe this means that it will only spit the ECB coupon on those days? Hope this helps!

  13. galois

After reading 100+ comments including a couple of my own, I have concluded that this deal sounds great but is not for me because:
    1. I have trouble spending much money oop (out of pocket) at CVS, given that their nonsale prices generally are higher than WMT or TGT and ECBs expire in a relatively short period of time and CVS good deals are generally restricted to limit 1 or 2 per family.
2, The possibility of extra fees, even if one rushes right over to WMT to buy giftcards with the Paypal card.
    3. The hassle involved in finding a nearby CVS that has them in stock and then getting the deal to load properly and …
    4. The SSN issue.

For some of you these are nonissues, so go for it! Collin posts so many really good deals that I will use other deals but not this one. I am grateful for all the money Collin saves me.

  14. Yvonne

on another cvs candy where it says bogo candy deal( kisses, reeses peanut butter, etc. I had 2 hershey kisses manufacturer for $1 off and 2 cvs for 2.50 off ea. got 4 bags and the register would only take 1 of the coupons. so done 2 separate transactions still wouldn’t take but 1 of them. what did i do wrong?

    • Lindsay

Mine did the same thing even after doing two transactions. I’m thinking it links to your cvs card. Probably 1 per household.

    • Lea

All the CVS coupons are now only one per transaction unless they force it through

  15. Tish

Will I be able to remove the entire amount at the 7-11 considering the fee?

  16. Kidsallgone

Can I use a $5 ecb to buy/activate the card when I checkout?

    • debra

No, ECB’s Excludes prescriptions, alcohol, gift cards, lottery, money orders, postage stamps, pre-paid cards & tobacco products. hth

  17. Nikki

Does anyone know if you have to use on paypal or is it like MasterCard credit card?
    Thank you!

    • laura

Yes this is just like a mastercard and can be used as such.

  18. Aly

Deal has ended. Stores received an email to pull all cards. No longer active.

    • mj

I just bought and activated 2 – 150 $ cards ( 2 different cvs cards) and it worked fine.

      • Aly

The cashier told me that corporate sent an email and the deal was a mistake. It was only supposed to be $5 ECB, not $50. So they pulled all the cards, no rainchecks. :p

        • jenny

I just did it on 2 different CVS cards at 3:15pm and it worked!

        • mamascott

I got a rain check because my store didn’t even receive the cards to begin with. We’ll see if it works. I have a problem giving up $150 but if I can spend it like money I guess it doesn’t matter.

    • Jac

I did the deal twice in the last hour. Limit was two (in separate transactions).

  19. brandice

Anyone in Decatur/Atlanta Ga did, this deal…. wanna hear from someone

    • KJ

      Me to!!! Please….

    • sooz

I’m in north Georgia and it worked for me.

  20. Dani

I’m thinking I will take my $150 master card to albertsons and do their deal there this week. They are offering $20 off groceries if you spend $100 in gift cards there this week. So I would end with up with $50 at cvs, $20 at albertsons for the price of $4.95 and the initial cost of the MasterCard $150 but I would also get $150 in gift cards. Then hurry and cancel the card. did someone confirm that we can use the MasterCard to purchase gift cards? I just need to plan where I an Christmas shopping anyway and purchase their cards. How does this look?

    • Dana

If your albertson’s takes MC as a form of payment you should be fine. Just a note- make sure you do debit and not credit as a payment. Credit can take a few days to process and then you might have to wait a few days to cancel the card.

  21. julie

Could someone please tell me how to cancel the card? I tried to do it online but it didn’t recognize my email address.

    • Dana

I called the customer service number on the back of the card to cancel it. HTH

  22. Melissa

Wow. Something not good is going on. Bought card, got deal, now can’t activate it. Please tell me I am not going to be out $155 here. I have been on hold with CS for 30+mins.

    • Nikki Allen

Melissa- what have you found out??

      • Melissa

I spent an hour on hold trying to get through to CS. When I finally did, they had no problems activating so I took it to Publix ASAP to get gift cards. Phew. No one had an idea why I couldn’t do it “easily.” I am exhausted lol. I need to call back to cancel the cards, but maybe I will wait for things to calm down tomorrow. I certainly hope CVS honors my $50 ECB after all that!!!!!!

        • Nikki Allen

So glad it worked for you!

  23. Trish

They pulled them all at my 2 closest stores and refused to sell me one. They said it was a mistake. 🙁

  24. LIZ

can YOU BUY THE $150 CARD (X2), AND THEN USE THE BALANCE ON THEM TO BUY THE OLD NAVY gift CARDDEAL? THEN YOU’D HAVE A REMAINING BALANCE OF $50 ON THE CARD, PLUS 100 FOR OLD NAVY AND $50 AND $25 ecB?

    • LIZ

anyone know if this option works? Buy a $200 card plus the 4.95 fee. Get the $50 ECB, then use the paypal card to buy the $100 worth of Old Navy Gift Cards and get the $25 ECB? Then I’d have $100 left to go to ACME to convert into other gift cards and get $20 on groceries? Then for $204.95, I’d have $100 for Old Navy, $100 for Kohls, $75 in CVS ECB and $20 in Acme OYNO?

  25. Seth

Just tried to do this in the Cleveland area and the system is down. Bummer. I’ll just go back by Wednesday to get this deal.

    • matilda

Where in cleveland? We’re in stow/falls and I was wondering if I should try this or not.

      • Seth

The CVS in Akron on West Market has them!

  26. Kerri

I just came back from doing the deal. I was able to pay the $150 plus $4.95 activiation. Then I activated it on my smart phone and ran over to my local grocery store and bought a $150 gift card where it never expires and no fees. Now, I just need to cancel. How do I cancel the card? Anyone?

    • Dana

Call the customer service number on the back of the card, hit 0 until you get an operator. Tell them you want to cancel the card because you spent all the money. That’s what I did.

    • Kerri

Okay, once you’ve used your $150 you can close it online. Go to http://www.paypal.com/prepaid and log in with your paypal account. It was crazy. It somehow linked my regular paypal account to it without me even giving that email to them when I registered the card. So, I used my paypal email to log into the prepaid site even though I didn’t give that to them when I registered. Sure enough, there it was. My card and my two transactions. I then when Help and scrolled down to Close Your account. If you have money remaining they will charge you to get a check back but if you have a $0 balance like me after spending it right away there is no fee. I was able to easily close the account. It gave me the option to just cancel the card without closing the account but I didn’t want to do that since I have no clue what kind of fees could come about if I didn’t just close it. All in all, it was worth the $45. No big deal.

  27. Luda

I am thinking their system is down this is why we can’t activate the card.

  28. Britt

My cvs pulled all the cards and won’t sell. The district manager stated it is a computer glitch and it should only be printing out $5 not $50. Hmmm

    • Nikki Allen

Comical! Did the computer also “glitch” on the posted ads on their site? They didn’t anticipate the hip2save effect!!! Lol

  29. Craddie

not available in Houston. bummer 🙁

    • allie

I am in Houston and it didn’t work at the first store. They told me that it wasn’t working anymore. So I went to a different one in Atascocita and it worked just fine! Love my $45 money maker!

  30. Bert

Has anyone tried this in Minnesota? I stopped by our CVS and the cashier couldn’t guarantee it would work since it wasn’t in the ad.. So I chickened out and skipped it. I would like to go back if anyone can confirm Mn is part of the deal… Thank you!

    • Kerri

Hi, Just did it at my White Bear Lake CVS without a problem. I went online to my CVS deals to make sure it was at my CVS and then I went there and it worked perfect! I have a $50 ECB reward that doesn’t expire until December 24th! I just finished canceling the account online too. It was easy.

      • Carol

So you can cancel the account prior to spending the $150 or had you already spent it?

        • Kerri

I had already spent the $150 before canceling account. There is a difference between canceling card and account. I choose to close both after buying a local grocery store gift card. HTH.

  31. Nette420

Got my card. Rolled the ECB to get baby formula and a bunch of this week’s freebies. Thanks so much for the post, saved me a ton today.

  32. nina

I just got the deal one for me and one for my mom.. I’m in Michigan. ..I grab the ad why I was there and in my ad it states $50 in extra care rewards. .. mine printed out immediately after buying them. ..they also have a sticker above the PayPal cards advertising this. ..they had about 30 left at my store. .

    • Kelly

Nina, where is Michigan are you?

      • nina

        Howell mi

  33. Heather

HUGEEE thank you!! Stocking up on misc household items.

Note: This was not advertised in the local add but I decided to chance it anyways and it worked!! Hope Mills/Fayetteville, NC

  34. Heidi

All cards were pulled at my cvs. 4:15pm est time. Location: riverview,fl (Tampa area)

    • Katrina

I was in Valrico/Brandon CVS earlier and they had pulled the cards, too. When I got home, I went to the Bartow CVS and they still had the cards on the shelf.

  35. liezel

Hope it works in az!!!love to do this deal..

  36. Tish

I went to several stores in NY and there were no cards.

    • Judy

I’m in NY and it’s not in our CVS ad so I don’t think it’s offered here.

  37. Gaby

Since some people are saying this is a glitch and they are pulling the deal, can CVS refuse to honor the ecb for those of us who where able to get? Really hope not.

  38. Kelly T

There’s no way this was supposed to be $5 ECB. What kind of incentive would that be to purchase a card that has a $5 fee? That’s like me handing you a dollar, and you giving me four quarters.

    • marie

It is $50 Extrabucks not $5

      • Kelly T

I realize what the AD says, but some other people have been told by CVS managers at the store level that they were informed to pull the cards because the offer had been a mistake, that it was actually meant to say $5 instead of $50.

    • Britt

Exactly! This is just what my CVS store told me…obviously I knew it was a bogus reason! But either way, I couldn’t get the deal

    • debra

Thank you for the good laugh! I guess the incentive would be you get the activation fee back.

  39. andrea

Just did this in NC. Great deal!

  40. Bert

I showed the clerk at CVS my phone with the ad pulled up. It was no problem although initially he was skeptical!

  41. Priscilla

So you can cancel the card when there’s still money on it? Or do you need to spend the $150 first? I haven’t gone to see if it works at my store but just wondering how that all works.

    • mamascott

From what others have said above, you have to spend the $150 to cancel

  42. Lindsey

Enter code 7298743186 under “friend referral” and get an EXTRA $5.00!

    • mamascott

Where do you enter this code?

    • Reyna

Can you tell me where to enter the code? TIA

    • Marley

Yes, where do you get the code? I used the code you provided, will get $5 when my permanent card arrives in the mail and its activated. You’ll get $5, too.

    • Carly

      “We” don’t get an extra $5 – you do…

  43. Allison

Just did this in West Palm, FL.

  44. laura wyatt

This was the best coupon deal I have done since the Free TP and tissues at RA a few years ago. When I got my cards I did two transactions back to back. The cashier scanned the activated card by mistake, but it still printed a $50 ECB! Then returned and redid and scanned the right one.So at the end I got $150 in ECB!!!! I tried to ask if they wanted it back, but nope she cant take them back! It was a good night! (I did the deal at midnight at my 24 hour store)

    • Marley

I’m confused, how’d you get the extra $50?

      • laura wyatt

it printed on the transaction where the card was not activated because it had already been activated.

  45. Misti Marlatt

I just did it too! The first one I went to had no clue and there were none on the shelf. The second one had some and they were soooo nice! Got my 50 EB and went back in to do my deals. Used my $50, spent $2 oop and and got 37 EB back!! Thank you Collin!!! xoxoxo

Hey don’t forget guys! The Scentsy Super Sale is still going on! up to 70% off!
    https://livelifewickless.scentsy.us/Scentsy/Home?partyId=209753403

    • Shauna R.

I get that you’re trying to make money and all, and I’m not trying to be rude….but it’s kind of annoying when people post their own personal links…especially on a post that has nothing to do with it.

  46. Kira

Just worked in Albuquerque for me and another couponer that used 2 cards to get 2 of them. My CVS didn’t know about it either but it totally worked and I scored a major money maker with my entire purchase…I don’t count the $150 as actually spending money since it’s on a card that still get to spend elsewhere. I added the $4.95 activation fee to my total OOP and still came out with almost a $40 MM after all of my coupons and ECBs!

  47. Brenda

Pardon my probably silly question. I am guessing you load the card with the 150.00 at CVS? And then see if it prints the ECB.

    • debra

Yes, you load $150 plus the cost of the card for a total of $154.95

      • Brenda

        Thank you Debra.

  48. Jeanne Warner

We were able to buy a card in Pa at 3:38 today and got the $50. ECB.

  49. GRACE R

Im located in Hickory,NC. Tried it at my nearest CVS and got a $50ECB back 🙂 Now Im trying to activate my card so I can use it tommorow but Im still on hold :/

    • debra

You get charged if you activate via phone. No fee is you activate online. I did it in the parking lot from my cell and worked like a charm.

  50. allie

    I just spent my $150 at Wal-Mart and got a $150 Wal-Mart gift card. Love MM’s!

    • Katie

      Great idea. Thanks

    • MichelleT

      How does that work?

    • Michelle

How does that deal work at Walmart???
