Good luck to all that tries this. The coupon will not scan and many stores are flat out refusing then coupon.

Do you think we would have better luck if we bought 8? (Pay for 4, get 4 free?)

      • Brandi

Reporting back… Went to my local DG and the coupon would not scan (I even grabbed 8 to be safe). The cashiers would not manually enter it for me because there was no manager on duty. 🙁

Many stores? Which ones did you try it at that refused it?

      • Kristy

I had a Libby’s coupon that wouldn’t scan at Walmart not long ago, but they entered it manually!!

Try calling the corporate office. I got tired of my local dollar general giving me a hard time about my coupons so I called the corporate office about it. The store manager called me at home and was super apologetic. They tried to give me a gift card for my trouble and she told me if i ever have a problem to call her over. She even talked to all the cashiers and told them not to give me a hard time about my coupons. I have a great experience at dollar general now. Give it a try!

ive called repeatly i mean repeatly and email and nothing. the store manager has yell in my face 3 times. i refuse to shop at my local dollar general.

I also had trouble and I went to two different stores to try it. May have to call corporate tomorrow and see if that works.

I ran up to DG last night as it is only 1/2 mile from my house. I had two coupons, so I got 8. The cashier tried telling that the reason it would not scan was because they were already on sale! Really? I told her that everything I buy is on sale and I still use coupons to make it better! She called the asst. manager to the front. He told me that it wasn’t the same product. Again, I argued my point! I had a line behind me by then and they were getting huffy! The registers shut down and didn’t come back up for several minutes because she kept scanning it. I told her to give them back and I would go to the other DG down the street. Same thing had happened with this coupon last year when they had a sale like this. The manager at the other store told me he knew how to do it and I told the girl just that! By then, the manager of this store came to the front and tired, but could not, so he called the other store and asked that manager. He told him exactly how to over-ride it and I got them! Geez! What we have to go through sometimes……still worth it!

My Dollar general is amazing about coupons that dont scan-they do it manually. Never had any issues.

    • Stacy

Mine is awful, they get out the magnifying glass and read the coupon top to bottom, and always find some reason not to take it. If the computer doesn’t take it, they will not enter it in. I don’t even try.

My dollar general will not take coupons on sale items.

    • lavinia

Just went to dollar general got 12 but had a lot of trouble . Had to enter it manually.

      • Kristy

I also had a ton of trouble with the coupons, but it was worth getting my 16 cans!! 🙂 Thankfully my cashier entered them manually & that was still a pain for her :/

  4. Nicole

I just tried this. I bought 8 and the coupon would not scan. Cashier said that it wouldn’t scan on a BOGO sale. She refused to enter it manually.

  5. Julie

I was just told that DG won’t accept coupons for items on sale. 🙁 Was also told by my Wal-Mart that if an internet coupon doesn’t scan they will no longer manually enter them. 🙁

  6. Quinell

I had no problems, my store would scan 4 cans then manually take .25 off each can. then scan the next four and do the same thing..they were awesome and YES they can do that.

  7. Jenifer

Watch how the DG is applied! Mine was crazy. It would take .35 off one, then .42 off another, and some .50 off. My cashier had to manually take off .25 from each item. My total was still not correct, but i wasn’t going to haggle over the .75 bc I was frustrated!

My understanding is that DG in general will only sell you what they have in stock, so if they sell out on Day 1, then that’s it. No rain checks. Last year they had a good deal on Libby’s canned veggies and people cleared the shelves the first day, and that was it.

    price match at walmart

    • Alicia

You can’t price match at Wal-mart unless the price is listed in the ad.

Does anyone have a number for corporate office?

    I just tried and ultimately left the store without the veggies. The cashier wanted to reduce the coupon value to .85 cents to try to make it work, which she was going to do without telling me. She then told me that the DG savings (which was the BOGO deal) reflected the coupon value being taken off. The manager came over and then said I was going to have to buy something more than the 8 cans of veggies in order for it to work. I now remember why I nearly stopped couponing altogether. {sigh}

    • Kristy

My cashier had to enter the coupons as she scanned the products. She’sdscan 4 cans & enter manually 40cents off, 40 cents off & 20 cents off. Then would scan four more cans & do the same. she said it is the only way to do it in their systems….

The Dollar General in my area refuses to take printed coupons and questions insert coupons. This store is not very coupon friendly. I asked why they didn’t take printed coupons and the manager did not explain, he was just instructed to tell all that they do not take printed coupons.

  12. Susie

Went to DG in Tight squeeze Va. Coupon wouldn’t scan… The girl called her dis.mgr. was told to take .25 off each can. Got 16 for $2.86! I was happy 🙂

  13. angie bennett

I went to 3 dg and only left with 8 cans. One store would not honour but 4 cans, the other was a down right confrontational so I left with nothing , and the other only honoured coupon once they were told the manufactured qpon is separate from store deal.

  14. megan

Had a nightmare today when I went in to get this deal. Bought 4 cans along with about $15 of other items. Everything scanned in, coupon wouldn’t scan so cashier manually put it in. Still didn’t seem the right total, after checking my receipt discovered the cans didn’t ring up BOGO at all. One rang up .85 the next rang up .43, next .85 and last .42. Tried to show the cashier the total wasn’t correct and she insisted that she had typed in the correct amount for the coupon. Well yes, but they weren’t ringing up correctly. Then she proceeds to show me an email from their corporate office saying that in order to use the coupon I have to buy eight cans. I tried telling her the ad hanging doesn’t specify that, neither does the coupon. Finally I was so frustrated I just left. Really disappointing they are making it so hard to use coupons.

Why would ANYONE who is new to couponing want to even attempt to go to a DG with their coupons after reading the horrible experiences listed above???
