I did some looking around on the PayPal website. The referral bonus says it can take up to 2 days to post. Also, the monthly fee if $4.95 is charged on the 26th of the month. So looks like a timing thing. Alot of us just happened to activate the card right before the fee is charged.
In order to get the referral bonus the person who uses the code, must load $10 on their card. If you check your messages you see it. So make sure if you use someone’s code you’re adding $10 to your card.

Call the number on your extra care card. The lady helping me was very helpful!! I had been trying to find a CVS nearby that was doing the $50 extra bucks but had no luck. I was frustrated hearing that people were buying multiples of them. She called my nearest store and spoke to the manager and asked if they would substitute another card (apparently there are two approved substitutions) and she said yes. Of course it would of been easiest if they told me this when I was in the store the first time. They will have to manually enter the $50 extra bucks when the card is purchased.
The lady on the phone from CVS told me the $50 extra bucks was scheduled to end tonight but they extended thru tomorrow. Good luck to everyone!!
Yeah this turned out to be a bad deal.
I activated the card, and within an hour got hit with 3 different $4.95 fees. PayPals been giving me the run around on the phone for the past hour and I at one point claimed to have closed the card. They won’t refund any of the fees. Terrible idea, and a pain.
I doubt many people will read this, but I have to say that I am pretty disapointed in the h2s readers that have been so negative. Colin and other bloggers have posted this to help us! People have been so negative. Even if you get hit with the 4.95 monthly fee, it is STILL a $40 mm. That’s $40 to spend on items maybe you don’t have coupons on. $40 for Christmas gifts when you are struggling. $40 for food that week you can’t just stretch your paycheck any further.
Just an FYI. I activated a card that I bought last night this morning at 8 am. I bought a new card with it at 8:40 am and they had already charged the extra 4.95. Which made that transaction a $40 MM. You still can’t beat it! I then did transactions for my mom. I activated the card in my car, walked in and bought another. Less than 10 minutes had passed and they had NOT taken the fee. So my advice is to wait to activate it RIGHT before use. Also, if you have them do it as credit it will automatically read whether it is $150 or $145.05 on it.
Many stores in my area are out. Are you surprised? Not only are couponers taking advantage of this deal, but many cashiers are doing it for themselves. They deserve it too! Be thankful that many of us were able to take advantage of this deal, whether it’s $40 or $45 mm!

I tried to buy a card today, and the CVS clerk said this program had been shut down, due to what she called “fraud”. She said people were coming in to buy a card, then would use the card to buy another card. She was very angry at the couponers who were “taking advantage” of the situation. I see her all the time so I just let her vent, then I asked if any stores had the PayPal card or was it just their store that removed them. She said a CVS company wide decision had been made to take them off the shelves. I went to three stores today, none of them had the card. Anyone else have luck today?

I bought one this afternoon on my way home. It was the last one in store. I called another store and they had plenty, but I didn’t get a chance to stop by there.
I did. And I talked to the mgr and cashier he said there was no such email from corporate and it’s a valid deal. On CVS FB page they have commented numerous times that this is a valid deal and it should be honored until 11/27. Wish you would have had better luck!
So these store mangers at other stores thank they can pull a deal on thier own with out corporate say so?

There might not have been an email from his district manager, but our district manager told us to pull ours. I guess it varies by what each different higher-up says. But, soon after we were told to put the cards back out. Lol!

I purchased a card today in Birmingham and loaded $150 on it. I paid $154.95 total and got my $50 ECB. I immediately activated my card online using my phone then went back in the store and purchased a second card using the first card I bought. I told the cashieer that I had $150 on my card and would pay the remainder with cash. She ran the card and everything worked out perfectly. Now I have two $50 ECBs and a big smile on my face! Thank you so much for posting this great deal that was unadvertised in my area.
Oh yeah, I then went over to Target and purchased $150 bucks worth of gift cards that I needed for Christmas (including two $25 Fandango cards that got me a $5 Target gift card!).

did you call your local store? I just looked to see if our area was participating. I called the number on extra care card and the girl was no help telling me to call the local stores myself. So I called mine and they are participating but card must be bought with cash not another card. If I want to do this twice still a great money maker if I go use the ATM and pay the $1.95 fee to get cash out .

actually the code did not work. so i did not use a referral code.
When I called to activate my card the customer service rep verified all my information. Then she told me this was a temporary card and they would be sending me a permanent card in 10 to 12 business days. I told her I didnt want another card and that I was going to use this up as quickly as I could. I went directly to the grocery store and purchased a 150 giftcard with the paypal card. Then went home and cancelled it. Anyone else have them try to send you a permanent card?
Yes, they do send you a new card with your name on it! If you select ‘My Account’, ‘Transaction History’, then finally ‘Card History’ you’ll see they generate a new card with your name with a new card number. I closed both accounts and reported lost immediately.

Yeah you have to cancel it or they will charge you 4.95 in the future. You can call the number that came with your card or you can go online and cancel.

Went to 4 stores…all but one told me the deal was cut off, but told me they didn’t have any cards even if it wasn’t cut…the one store that didnt tell me that said their store never received any. Boooo!

I just called CVS (corporate) and the representative told me that they are not available because they pulled them off since Monday?!!! I know it doesn’t make sense since people have been getting them up to today, but it shows that they probably are indeed telling stores to pull them off. Anyhow, i couldn’t find them at any of the stores in NY.

Does anyone know if this works in Massachusetts? It has not been advertised here, nor is there a sale tag in the store by these cards (only the iTunes and Gap card deals are posted in store and advertised). The store employees at my local store had never heard of this deal when I inquired.

My store was out of the paypal card but had an email from Corp to sub the MyVanilla or NetSpend. I chose the myvanilla. Only $3.95. The email also said the $50 had to be done in in $25 increments. Not sure why. But I’m glad I asked about it at the store because I would have missed the $50 for no reason. Thanks again Collin!!!!!

Collin, I just wanted to say thank you so much for posting this deal! I ended up with $75 in ECB for $9.90. This is wonderful. Here is how I did it.
1) Buy the Prepaid Paypal Visa and load $150.00 on it. Cost = $4.95 for buying the card and get $50 in ECB. Please note you will also be charged $4.95 from Paypal for the “monthly” fee.
2) Activate the Visa then use to buy $100.00 in Gap/Old Navy/Banana Republic gift cards to get $25 in ECB. I also used the remaining $45.05 balance and bought an Amazon gift card since I use them so much.
3) Tomorrow I will be charged the $4.95 monthly fee bringing the prepaid paypal visa balance to zero. I plan to then cancel the visa so there is no further hassle.
In the end I got $100.00 in Old Navy gift cards, $45.05 in Amazon gift cards, and $75.00 in ECB for total out of pocket of $154.95. Pretty awesome in my book, especially considering that I had planned to spend at least $150.00 at Old Navy and Amazon anyway. Now I also have $75 I can spend at CVS.
