wow..uh 10% additional and all you have to do is buy an amazon gift card..is it just me or does anyone feel like there has got to be a catch?

    • us4royers

oooooh I get it. You don’t get an extra 10% of your tax return. You get an extra 10% added onto gift of the amount you spent on a gift card. So if you buy a $100 gift card from amazon through turbo tax with your tax return you get a $110 gift card…got it.

It is an additional 10% bonus of the $ amt of the gift card, not a 10% bonus of the refund amount (unless you add it all to an amazon card of course). Just to clarify.

This is a really good deal if you buy a lot on amazon and plan on having a large federal tax refund. The max is $10,000 in amazon gift cards, so if you really wanted to maximize your federal income tax refund, you could load all 10K onto gift cards and receive $1,000 in free amazon gift cards! That is a lot of free money! Call me crazy, but I think this is enough of a bonus for me to load my entire refund onto an amazon gift card.

*This is assuming you have at least 10K in federal income tax refunds related to 2013

    • Maureen

If you are getting a $10,000 refund there is something wrong.

I can not convince my husband that it’s “legal” to take more than the standard deductions for our family size. We get $7000 every year. Drives me nuts, but 10% is a reasonable rate of return on the money we loaned the government doing that.

      • Kristina

Every individual/families tax refund will vary greatly. I have prepared tax returns for self employed individuals who received over 100K in federal tax refunds. Personally, I over withhold federal income taxes during the year as another way to save money for my family. I know that I am choosing to give the government a free loan, but money you don’t have can’t be spent.

    What’s a refund? LOL!

**NOTE: Product Information: State preparation is NOT included in this version. This will increase your end cost. My state file last year was $36.95 with TurboTax.

    • Tammy

I thought I read one state download was included? If the state is not offered, I am not sure this a good deal.

    • Kristen

The product description says: “Includes one TurboTax State product download.”

    • Carrie

My experience with Turbo Tax in the past has been that it is free to download the forms for one state (multiple states will cost you), and Turbo Tax will fill them out for you, but you have to pay to E-file. We always just print our state forms and mail them to avoid the e-file charge.

Make sure you see “TurboTax Deluxe Mac Fed + Efile + State 2013” before placing order.

The home and business federal, efile, and state is also on sale for prime members. The price drops from $79.99 to $69.99! Every little bit helps, thanks Collin

Anyone know the difference or benefit between online version and download or disk?

Thoughts on Amazon Prime? Worth the money?

    • andrea

I finally bought it right before Thanksgiving. It has already paid for itself! When I get home from shopping and realize I forgot something (not perishable food obviously) I check amazon before I decide to run out and get it. Usually the same price with free 2 day shipping. Keeps me from compulsive shopping in the store as well since I only order the item I needed. That’s my 2 cents worth at least.

    • JulieA

Amazon Prime is absolutely worth it for my family! I did most of my Christmas shopping at Amazon & received free shipping on it all. We also watch movies/TV shows through the streaming (included with Prime).

  11. Trisha

OK, little confused. If this is DELUX Version, isn’t State included??

    • jennifer e

Thanks! I just did this too. I’ve always wanted to try Quicken so this was a great deal for me.

    • Tony T

How did you get the Quicken Deluxe deal? I can’t seem to figure it out.

  12. Kristen

Just noticed that Costco has a coupon offer for $10 off Turbo Tax from 1/2 – 1/26. That should make the Deluxe version $39.99 as well, if you’re not an Amazon Prime member 🙂

I usually file online with TurboTax and just went to the website to check out their prices. Directly on turbotax.com, it states about getting the 10% bonus when you get an Amazon giftcard with your Federal Return…so my take is that you DON’T need to be a Prime member to get that feature. It also states that if you use the Federal “Free” or “Basic” edition, you only get a 5% bonus on an Amazon Giftcard. FYI!

  14. Anikka

It looks like it’s a better deal to do the deluxe software for anyone trying to compare…If you buy the software for $39.99 you still have to pay $19.99for state efiling. The online edition is $29.99 for federal (looks like a sale price so I’m not sure how long it will last) and $36.99 for state efile.

For me efile the only way to go. Refund comes much faster that way!

With a little knowledge of where to download the forms (irs.gov) and if you’re willing to do some copying onto the forms, you can calculate your tax return for free using TaxBrain.
