Check out the email that I received from Hip2Save reader, Kayla…

I wanted to share my awesome find at my local Michael’s here in Jacksonville, NC. They had $2 grab bags and they were awesome! I got 3 for $6.42 and got well over $150 worth of stuff and the most expensive having a tag of $19.99. Here’s my score: 11 different types of Garland (these were priced from $5.99-$19.99), 43 winter hats, 21 frisbees and some miscellaneous items.

Let us know if you also find these $2 grab bags at your store!

wow in love with those hats

    • Erin

Forty-three winter hats in North Carolina . . . I’m thinking she might have one to spare 😉

  2. miller

They look like fun grab bags! I was at Michaels in CT yesterday and did not see any $2 bags, but holiday clearance was at 90% off. It’s nice that your store uses clear bags.

  3. Kellie

I got 3 form the store in Mobile, AL and each bag had $150-$200 worth of Christmas products in them. Awesome deal.

    • Ginger

Kellie, are there more? You mean Springdale, right?

  4. Dawn

I have a $20 Shutterfly code from Children’s place that expires 1/31 that I won’t use. I’d love to trade for something/card amount I don’t have to pay shipping for? 😉 I also have a free Shutterfly calendar code (still have to pay for shipping)

      thanks! 🙂

  5. ihearthip

I saw several at my store but I was worried about the contents! This is awesome! 🙂

Got 3 bags this morning in Richmond, Va with well over $100 worth of product in each bag. I’ve come to look forward to this as much as the Target clearance. Tons of fun stuff and some of the red things can be repurposed for Valentine’s crafts and decor. I even had a few Martha Stewart embellishments in mine. Love it!

  7. ashley

I got my son one of those owl hats when they were 75% off.
Wish it wasn’t -7 here so we could go!

  8. Pam S.

My store had them too (Michigan)…Picked up 2 boxes. Got 3 wreathes, 2-6′ garland strands, 8 rolls of ribbon, tons of floral picks, 15 sheets of stickers, a rose bouquet, peony bouquet, and all kinds of odds and ends. Clerk said, each box had $85-100 worth of merch. inside.
    Great deal!

  9. Emily

WOW! I need to stop and see if ours have those! I’ve never seen them before but honestly I’d go nuts if all it had were the frisbees. Our puppy goes through those like crazy! They’re her favorite kind of toy.

  10. Becki

I went to the Michaels in Geneva, IL yesterday. In looking for Valentine’s Decorations, I found they had a TON of Christmas decs at 90% off. I got about 20 “glitter flower spikes” IN RED (for Valentine’s day :)) among a few other things that I paid too much for and spend less than $10. All of these spikes rang up from .09-.29 Not my house has puked RED GLITTER! Happy Heart Day!

  11. cara

Thanks for the heads up! It would be awesome if my Michaels has them & with similar contents. I’d love to donate the frisbees to a local animal shelter & the hats to my church outreach.

  12. NN

How does the grab bag work. Can you return them after opening if you do not need the items?

    • Tilla Ham

NO! 🙂 it’s a final sale as is for them to clear out merchandise

    • Mia

No, but they’re always worth $2! I got them after Halloween and there were tons of and ends(stickers, crafts). One bag was mostly food? I donated what I couldn’t use. Our Michael’s unfortunately puts them in paper bags, so you can’t see what your getting 🙁

    • NN

      Thank you, ladies!

  13. Wendy

There were lots of grab bags in the Michael’s in Nashville today!

  14. Nae

Anyone know if theres any in mn

    • Janelle

I just went to the Michaels in Northeast Minneapolis (The Quarry one) and there were a bunch!

  15. Susan

Kayla–were there any left? My mom lives in Jacksonville, and I may have to send her!

    • Kayla

Hi Susan, they were only a few left after I checked out I saw a few ladies over there getting a few.

  16. Daisy

Has anyone found in beads in them?

  17. britt

I got these last year! I bought 4 of them and got well over 400$ in scrapbooking stuff, albums, paper, stickers and a lot more! It was nice because I love scrapbooking!!

    • Donna C

Do you know what month you found the scrapbooking grab bags? It seems like they tend to be seasonal.

  18. Angi

Lol. This may gross people out, but this reminds me of my grade school years when me and my friends would dumpster dive at various stores. Yea, I know its sounds gross. It wasn’t what you think. There weren’t any diapers or banana peels. It was all new stuff! Especially after Christmas! Now I know it was all the leftover clearance. It was not illegal and it wasn’t stealing. The police that patrolled always would ask ” what cool stuff did you get today?” We had the coolest tree house.

    • Emily

      I did the same thing

    • visitor3

My husband and I came across many garbage bags full of greeting cards (no envelopes) a Rite Aid was putting out to the curb (just after the spring holidays — Valentines, St. Pats, Mothers Day, Fathers Day) and took it all! It was mostly for those spring holidays but there were some birthday cards, too. Still using those cards up years later! Minus the Spanish language ones which I gave to a relative who teaches Spanish.

  19. Andrea

Got 3 of them today and scored a $39.99 basket, and a box full of Tshirts and shorts!! Tons of clearance crafts.. All for $6.00!!

  20. Janette

I was at a Micheal’s yesterday and got some great things at 90% off and a few other great clearance items. But no grab bags. I am in Southern California.

  21. Katherine

    Nothing left in douglasville, ga.

  22. Dealseeker

Found around 10 bags left and they told me more to be put out tomorrow. Mostly leftover Christmas stuff. I bought 3 bags.

Also, if into Duck Commander/Duck Dynasty check prices. I bought 8 related items for $0.01 each!!

    • Daisy

      REALLY? I love that show

      • Dealseeker

Yes! I got 2 coffee mugs, 2 drink koozies, an ornament, 2 nightlights, and a Miss Kay serving tray!

The lady told me she could sell them to me for that price but called a manager to pull the rest off the shelf. I was gonna go back and grab everything but told me she couldn’t let me get out of line twice since people were waiting (I originally just went up with the nightlight and grabbags since that was what I wanted). Said it would either be thrown out or put into the grab bags. Sure hope it isn’t thrown away that’s a waste!

  23. Dayna

Has anybody found any in Houston? I wonder if they will have any left by Saturday. Looks like a lot of good finds!!

  24. Michelle

Bought 11 of them in estero fl. There are tons of them left wrapping paper alone totaled 50 dollars each bag

  25. Jessica

Roanoke va has them bought 2

  26. Brie

They had them in the Chicagoland area. Some were large boxes! I got nice large baskets -retailing at the overpriced Marshall’s price of $15-$50 each!

  27. Sam

Oh man what a real bargain. Sadly I can’t find a need for anymore Christmas decor, garland, or hats (I live in Jacksonville, too). Plus the drive from my home on Camp Lejeune to michaels is 25 min. I think I will have to pass. 🙁

  28. Sara

Wow! Thanks for posting this. Got some, and they were fantastic. Lots of things I will use for photo props next Christmas.

  29. Terry

Anyone know about the Kingsport, Tennessee store?

  30. Katie

Thanks so much for posting!!!! Went to Michael’s in American Fork Utah they had an isle full of them at least 30 bags left. I got 4 bags. One bag had 7 nice baskets in it that bag alone retailed for over $160! Also got lots of crafts to do with the kids, Christmas cards, note pads, stockings etc. so much fun!!!

  31. rebecca

I love when Michael’s does this!!! I got a ton of awesome stuff one year when they had Halloween grab bags. I lucked out in getting a great Valentine grab bag another year. It’s incredible what they throw in there. I’m bummed I didn’t stop at the Michael’s today as I literally drove right past it on my way to the Office Depot two stores over.

  32. Holly

A few months ago, I got 2 grab bags (the last 2 at check out). It consisted of all Hanukkah stuff. Majority of it was given to a friend (I’m not Jewish),

  33. Jen

I picked up 3 bags today in Los Angeles. I got a ton of photo frame ornaments, 15 tubes of scentsicles, 8 containers of scented gel beads, and a lot of really cute holiday craft kits (puppets, reindeer, advent calendar, Christmas tree decoration kit). My son will be 2 next Christmas so I can’t wait to do the crafts.

  34. Amy

I picked up a few, ours are boxes you can’t see what your getting. One was completely full of felt and farmer pens, separated the Christmas to hand out next year will do the red birds for valentines I have pens coming out my ears. Twenty four boxes of Christmas crafts, some cute thanksgiving things, more cupcake holders than I will ever need lol and a bunch of sprigs and 7 bags of pinecones. Anyone need pinecones or felt crafts lol.

  35. S

Just went to my store. They had a lot of those bags but they were just full of pine cones, stickers, and some cheap cards. Nothing great. 🙁 Wondering if I should try another store…???

    • Caity Tarbert

I would call if you have multiple stores in your area. I called this morning – the first store said they didn’t have enough stuff to do grab bigs this year. The second store said they had some, and when I went, the boxes were piled five or six high by the register – tons available.

  36. tracy

i picked up 4 boxes and about 9 bags full of stuff. i got 4 nice baskets and a few of those poinsettia plants. and they look good in my pink vase i had becuz they werent red. then i got a red poinsettia plant(all fake of course) and it came in a nice basket and its on the floor in my room. also got some nice decor bottles. a frame. a few deer statues that holds pictures. and a couple red cubes that i put a whole bunch of hard flower decor in. they are on my kitchen counter and look great. both together are probably over 100 because they price the stick flowers so high. too many ornament hangers to count some of those hats. and just a whole lot of crap…good crap but crap. and like 4 wreaths.tons of bows $10 ones. all probably well over $400 for $19 something. o yea and a bunch of holiday card packs

  37. Britt

If anyone is wondering about Knoxville’s, don’t bother. I made the mistake of buying 3. Just junk. 10 bags of ornament hooks, tons of holiday shopping lists that were all the same and fake mistletoe garland that looks so bad I’ll probably toss it. Retail cost for each bag was maybe 40 bucks tops.

  38. Sara

I just went to Michael’s in Harrisburg, PA. I bought 3. So much fun to open up!! Thanks for the heads up!

  39. Caity Tarbert

This is seriously cracking me up going through my boxes. I bought three boxes. The highlights are some really nice wooden stamp sets, some Christmas crafts, inflatable boxing gloves, a couple memory foam pillows, and about 20 bottle koozies (will have to figure out something creative to do with those!)

  40. Caity Tarbert

As a side note, my sister-in-law went to her local store and was told they had them earlier, but someone came in and bought all 30 boxes. Is it just me, or is that totally obnoxious? I’m sure that person is just going to be re-selling everything, and now everyone else who wanted to have a little fun is denied the opportunity. Yuck.

  41. Cara

Our store had tons in michael’s plastic bags and people had ripped open a bunch of them, yikes!
I got 4, knowing my daughter would be thrilled at the mystery and I could see pens and notepads in them which is a great love of hers.
I hid 3 away for future rainy days and let her have one when she got home from kindergarten. Oh the joy of discovering what was inside! She had so much fun and so did I — well worth the $2!:)

  42. rosana

My store didn’t have any and no more Christmas stuff.

  43. Holly

I called 2 local stores this morning– 1 only had 2 bags remaining (which I can’t get to until the end of the day) and the other said they had several in the front.

So I went to the closest to me (the stores that quoted “several in the front”), and found a ton of huge clear garbage bags filled with PINE CONES. Err! I went in to ask if they had others inside the store, but none (according to the cashier, there were boxes yesterday).

A few months back when I got a ton of Hanukah stuff, my s/o laughed at me saying I was wasting my money BUT he was so interested in what else could be found in future bags. So now he’s encouraged to go to Michaels with me more often.

  44. kristin

Got the last 2 boxes at the greensburg, pa store…mostly had little kids winter hats and hello kitty pens.

  45. jennifer

lots of them at the one in Jackson MI

  46. Analisa

Thanks for the tip! I headed to two different Michaels today and found some great things! For $4 I ended up with a wreath and a ton of glittery ribbon which I was wanting anyway. Everything else in the bags was a bonus. In case anyone is interested, I did post pictures and a list of everything I got on my blog. I hope everyone else found what they were looking for!

  47. Jo

My wedding is in June and I will be making most of the decorations on my own. I bought 4 grab bags which had 47 floral stems costing me less than $10 and are worth $457.53! I am so grateful to have been able to take advantage of such a deal. Thank you so much Collin!!

  48. Amy

I picked up 4 bags at my Michaels in Joliet, IL and they were full of a variety of things. Hello Kitty pez, pencils, pens, notepads, lunch boxes, coffee mugs, sticky notes and thank you cards; 3 awesome baskets; pointsetta; childrens hats; gemstones; silk flowers etc… Price added up to $519 – and that was from the items that had price tags. Many did not.

  49. Mira

When is the best time for look for grab bags &/or grab boxes at Michaels after The Valentine’s Day holiday is over? Thank you.

  50. Disappointed

I got one today – ALL calendars. Regular size calendars, mini calendars, weekly planners, student planners, bookmark calendars, mouse pads with calendars on them (probably the only thing I’ll use), miniature weekly planners, ect, ect. It was actually kind of frustrating – what am I going to do with a hundred calendars. It’s not even like I can gift them – it’s March already. Not happy
