Best Buy is having an electronic trade in special in some locations. I just traded in 3 old cell phones ($10 each) and a Playstation 3 with cords and controller ($20) that was not working well and got $50 in Best Buy gift cards for stuff that I wasn’t even using. The equipment has to be able to turn on and be in their data base. I had several really old phones and only one wasn’t in their data base, so instead, they recycled it for me. There are limits to how many you can redeem per day. In my area (MA) it was one per person per day but it may be different in your area. You could always go back another day or bring a friend if you have a lot to trade in.[/h2s_box]

(Thanks, Sue!)

I’ve done this twice so far and both times I had to remind the clerk that they were running the program and they need to ask a manager. Otherwise they wouldn’t have given me any money.

Does anyone know if anyplace takes broken ipods? I have two with cracked screens. (thanks, kids.)

When we were buying used iPhones and iPods last month we say lots with cracked screens on eBay. They were selling for $100 or so. I think people buy them and then have the screens replaced for $100 or so. All that to say try selling them on eBay if they still work fine.

      • Maryann

Really? People bought them? Hmm. Maybe I can look into getting the screens replaced myself. Problem is since the screen doesn’t work I don’t know if the ipod works. LOL.

My daughter cracked the screen on her ipod last year. I bought a new screen from amazon, watched a youtube video, and replaced it myself. I spent $20 on the part instead of $99 at the Apple store. I will say that it was kind of nerve racking b/c I didn’t want to mess it up more than it already was.

I meant we saw, not we say.

      • Maryann

        No problem. Thanks so much!

If you have a battery joe it costs $15 to replace 🙂

Yes, people buy them. We took our son’s to a repair place and paid $84 including tax. I’ve heard they’re hard to do at home so it was worth the money to us. Good luck.

My little sister has broke the screen on hers 3 times and each time it was replaced thanks to the warranty we bought, but it continues to work each time. HTH

I have not had good luck at buy backs with best buy – customer service doesn’t know about it – have to call over a manager and it is such a hassle!!!

i took my son’s computer in and they told me it was too old and at that time it was only a year old so good luck with that . so i think it is almost considered false advertisng if you ask me

A lot can change in a year for technology. Best Buy resells the items so you have to remember that they still have to make a profit. Tablets and computers have the worst resell value while game systems and cell phones have the highest 🙂

I would put on ebay these items… iPhone 4 or newer, Samsung Galaxy S III or S 4, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy Note II or Note 3, any MacBook, Sony PlayStation 3 (Slim models), Xbox 360 with 250GB hard drive or larger, Canon or Nikon DSLR cameras, any Surface tablet, or any iPad …typically will get anywhere from $100 – $200
