It might be worth giving them a call if you are not school personal or a home school family to ask if it’s open to the public. I was the director of a childcare center and staff from the warehouse dropped by with a poster for me to put up advertising the sale. I asked if I was supposed to put it in the break room for only the staff to see and they told me no, that I could hang it out front because parents were also welcome. I’m also lucky enough to live right down the street from a warehouse and they always have signs up in the community advertising the sale. Also if you are able to volunteer they pay you in books 🙂 You are given a dollar amount that you’ve earned depending on how many hours you worked and you can choose that much in books from the sale. I have a friend who volunteered at the last sale and she earned enough books to do a Christmas party for the children of our church and everyone got books for a gift.

That’s great information! I love going to the warehouse sales but I didn’t know they let you work for books! My 16 year old would LOVE to do that! She lives for books! Thanks so much! 🙂

Yes, I called my local warehouse like Amie said, and I was told that anyone is permitted to attend the sale. The person I spoke with just told me to select “school volunteer” when I registered.

YES! Do school volunteer! Our services coordinator for my daughters Early Intervention Speech Therapy gave us the info for the December Christmas sale…she said to do the volunteer and it worked great!

If you say you’re a school volunteer do you have to prove it though? I do volunteer at my child’s school, but in the classroom, not at the book fair :/

If you are a school volunteer it can be anywhere in the school, doesn’t have to be book related :). You can sign up ahead of time or they have computers so you can sign up there. I usually put homeschool however because they do occasionally send mailings about upcoming warehouse sales and I would rather have them send it to me and not my daughters school. If you sign up as a school volunteer you do have to enter the school and address so I usually stick with homeschooler.

I wish we had a warehouse here, but none in my state

I have volunteered at the Scholastic Warehouse sales for the past 3 or 4 years. They are fabulous! It is a great way to easily earn great books for a classroom, or any other organization in need. You can add to your family library, and even get some great gifts to help with the cost of birthdays, holidays, etc. Our location also allows you to use the coupons available on the Scholastic Warehouse site along with earned volunteer hours for even more savings! If you want to find out more about volunteer opportunities, the best way is to go to the sale, and let a volunteer or someone in charge know that you are interested. They will refer you to the head of Volunteers or an email contact. Ask to be added to the email sign up list for the current or next sale. (This is how I got in after years of filling out the volunteer form on the site, but never getting called). You can ask when the next sale will be {if you can’t get in on the current one), and just keep a close eye on your email 2 or 3 weeks before the date of the sale. You will have a great time, and meet some amazing people, as well!
