So I was totally just doin’ the Go Collin, Go Collin Happy Dance… be honest – who dances after a great coupon run or has like a weird move that basically conveys… well, you rock?! 😉

And as for rocking, I rocked the deals at Walgreens this week and took advantage of the points booster promo! If you are still wanting to make use of the points booster promo and are looking for ideas on how to get the most bang for your buck, be sure to check out my transactions below. I did two transactions AND was able to get all of the above (yep – every single item!) for under $10 after tax. Note that I started with a $3 Register Reward that I earned from last week, so if you don’t have a Register Reward – your total will be $3 higher – still an awesome deal for 27 ITEMS!

Here’s how I did it:

Transaction #1

Buy 1 Morton Epsom Lotion 8 oz $6
Buy 1 Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste 6 oz, or Rinse 16.9 oz $2.99
Buy 2 Ban Total Refresh Cloths 10-pack $3.99 each
Buy 1 Almay Liquid Lip Balm $5.79
Buy 1 Almay Shadow Softie $4.99
Total = $27.75

Coupons:
Use the $1/1 Almay Make-up Remover, Eye or Lip Walgreens coupon in the April Coupon Booklet
(will deduct $2 for purchasing two items)
Total Now = $25.75
Use the Points Booster in-ad coupon (will score you 5,000 points when you spend $25 or more in a single transaction – calculated after store coupons BUT before manufacturer coupons)
Use two $4/1 Almay Cosmetic Product coupons found in the 4/13 SS
Use the $0.50/1 Crest Toothpaste, Crest Rinse, Oral B Glide Floss or Glide Floss Picks coupon found in the 3/30 PG
Use two FREE Ban Total Refresh Cooling Body Cloths coupons in the 4/13 SS
Pay $9.27 (+ Tax)
HOWEVER, I used a $3 Register Reward that I earned from a previous transaction
So I paid just $6.27 (+ tax)
Get back a $6 Register Reward (from the Epsom Lotion), a $2 Register Reward (from the Crest) AND 5,000 Balance Rewards points (for using the Points Booster coupon and spending more than $25 before manufacturer’s coupon)

Transaction #2

Buy 4 Sharpie Markers $0.39 with in ad coupon AND BOGO50% off = $0.78 for all
(Read more about this deal here)
Buy 2 boxes of Nature Valley Snack Bars 5 or 6 pack $1.99 = $3.98
Buy 4 bags of Snyder’s of Hanover Pretzels 8 oz  2/$4 = $8 total
Buy 3 Reese’s Pieces Theater Pack candies $0.79 each = $2.37 total
Buy 4 TEN soda 2-liters 4/$5 (I thought they were on sale 4/$4, but I guess it varies by region)
Buy 2 Nice! Jelly Beans 9 oz 2/$1 with in ad coupon
Buy 2 Comet Cleansers 2/$1 with in ad coupon
Total = $22.13

Coupons:
Use the $0.39 in-ad Sharpie coupon
Use two $0.50/1 Nature Valley Greek Yogurt Protein Bars coupons in the 4/6 SS or here
OR use the $0.50/1 Nature Valley Granola Bars coupon found in the 4/13 SS
OR use the $0.50/1 Nature Valley Soft-Baked Oatmeal Squares coupon found in the 3/9 SS
Use 4 $1/1 Snyder’s Flavored Pieces, Korn Krunchers or Sweet and Salty coupons in the 3/2 SS
Use the $1/3 Reese’s Product coupon found in the 2/23 SS
Use two $1.50/2 7Up Ten, A&W Ten, RC Ten, Sunkist Ten, or Canada Dry Ten coupons here
Use the Nice! Jelly Beans 2/$1 in ad coupon
Use the Comet Cleanser 2/$1 in ad coupon

Total Now = $13.13
Use the $6 RR, $2 RR AND the 5,000 points earned from previous transaction
Pay $0.13 (+ tax)

TOTAL for all = $6.40 (+ tax) for me OR if you start with no Register Rewards, just $9.40 (+ tax) for all – still a *HOT* deal! And keep in mind that this is just one deal idea based on the coupons I had on hand.
Be sure to share any deal scenarios you cook up to make the most of the 5,000 Points Booster promo (which ends tomorrow, 4/15!).

  6. Monica

NICE!!! I have’t done walgreens in awhile, so I am curious how the points work and how you redeem them? Thx everyone! =D

  7. Danielle

Yep, I dance after an amazing coupon deal… sometimes in public.

  8. Julie

I was told by a worker at walgreens that you cannot use a register reward to get a register reward in the same transaction here in southwest Florida:-(

    • ashley

if it’s the same one it won’t print another…

    • Patty

Exactly. I had them credit out a transaction once. They were very nice about it all. I have a good Walgreens near by that has a great lady named Evelyn that knows all the deals and her product very well. Just keep that in mind and separate your deals so that the RR items are purchased first, then buy other things in another transaction that doesn’t involve the RR deals.

      • marie

That is what the cashier told me last Sunday when I went. Then eggs messed up my $25 points deal because you cannot purchase dairy.

  9. Leslie

    Wow!! Awesome job! 🙂

  10. Tilly

The yellow sales tags say “Sale with card”. What card?

Do I need said card to get the advertised price or can I just buy the item and get that price w/o a card. I hate walgreens and havent shopped there in years, but I want that Reeses deal for easter. Thanks!

    • Victoria

They’re talking about the Bonus rewards card. It’s free and will get you the great sale prices (and allow you to get the points to use on future transactions. On most deals, you won’t get the sale price without the card.

      • Tilly

Oh ok. Great to know! Thanks.

    • Mrs. Waller

Yes, you must be a balance rewards member to take part in promotions. That’s the card she’s referring to. It’s quick, easy, and free to sign up. Absolutely worth it! 😉

  11. I Love Shoes

My Walgreens has the Mortons Epsom Lotion on clearance for $4.49. I still received a $6 RR.

  12. Erin

I’m not a regular WAGS shopper but I’m familiar with their policy. What I don’t get is how I tell how many points I have. I know I’m registered because I put in my phone number every time I shop and get the card prices, but I’m not sure how many points I’ve accumulated. Every time I ask, the cashier tells me it should say on the receipt but it never has. Do I need to link my account to my phone number online? Do the points I accumulate expire like register rewards? How do I let the cashier know I want to use points, or do they come off automatically? Thanks for your help guys!

    • Dianne

My points balance shows on the bottom of every receipt don’t know why yours wouldn’t also. If you are registered, then go to the Walgreen’s site and sign into your Balance Rewards account. when there you can see every transaction if you want or just your balance. If you don’t see that, then I would call corporate and get that fixed. You need to use the points within 18 months or they will expire but that is a rolling 18 months. If you want to redeem points on your transaction, you can do that in increments of 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 5,000, 10,000, 18,000, 30,000, or 40,000 in a single transaction, just tell the cashier and they will hit the keys for you to do that, you will have to enter your zip code that you registered with to redeem those amount of points you want. HTH.

      • mel

You can always get your balance by logging into your wags acct or via the wags app.

  13. Ang

    What does SS stand for?

    • Jenna

      Smart source

      • Ang

Thank you Jenna. I will google Smart Source! Thanks again!

  14. johanna

in new jersey we dont have the $4 dollar coupon for almay, sadddd

  15. T Evans

Nice haul. I was given some Fiber one bar coupons that are $1.25 off a box. Whoo hooo scored 3 boxes @ $.74 each, to add to my shopping trip. Wish I could get more of those Qs indeed. I now need more sharpies!

  16. Katherine

so are register rewards and points the same thing? I used to shop Walgreens Register Rewards a few years ago when it would print out on a piece of paper, to be honest, I liked that system a lot better than the way it is now. Now, I go in thinking I have $10 to spend but then my ‘points’ are only at 7750 and the clerk says I can only use $5 of it towards my purchase. A bit confusing..

  17. Claudia

This is the transaction I did today

    1 Nature valley $1.99
    2 Fiber One $3.98
1 Almay eye makeup remover pads $5.99
    1 Almay intense i-color $5.99
    3 Nice! Eggs $2.97
    3 Wet N Wild products $3.47
    2 Lifesaver Jellybeans $5.00
    2 Brachs Jellybeans $3.00
    Total $32.39
Used the $1/1 Almay Make-up Remover, Eye or Lip Walgreens coupon in the April Coupon Booklet
(will deduct $2 for purchasing two items)
Used the $1/2 Starburst, skittles or Life saver Walgreens coupon in the April Coupon Booklet
Used $1/2 Brach’s Walgreens Coupon in the April Coupon Booklet
    Total $28.39
Used the Points Booster in-ad coupon
Used 3 $1.25/1 Nature Valley or Fiber One Coupon
    Used 2 $4/1 Almay coupon
    Used 3 $1/1 Wet N Wild coupon
Used 1 $1/2 starburst coupon and
Used 3 $0.99 Register Reward from previous transaction
    Total: $10.91 (tax included)
    Got 5,000 points

    • Tammy

      Nice!

  18. Lauren D

Collin, I am so confused! I just got home from Walgreen’s and I’m so frustrated. I had my trip all planned out so I could get the most for my money (so I thought). I bought the lotion for $6 and got the rewards points. I then created a $25 purchase and the cashier said I could not redeem any points AND use the 5,000 bonus points on one transaction. I had to choose one or the other. Every store tells me something different and I’m pretty sure I could have saved more money than I did. Rrr… can anyone explain it better?

    • Maja

Lauren D, cashier was right you can’t get new balance reward points if you redeem any balance rewards points in same transaction. If you use balance reward to pay for your purchase and if cashier scanned that coupon (booster coupon) still you will not get 5000 balance reward … You can use RR (register reward ) to lower your oop (out of pocket) and paid rest in cash, and get scanned booster coupon and get 5000 balance reward points. Walgreens system can be hard:) HTH

      • Lauren D

Thanks for the info. I guess I’m just confused because in my transaction of $25 or more I wasn’t purchasing anything that would earn me more register rewards. I had a $3 RR from previous purchases and they said I could redeem that OR the 5,000 bonus points. It looks like Collin’s transaction took off her previous RRs AND the $5 bonus points. Am I missing something?

        • Mel

What Collin did was use her points & RR on the last transaction, which did not earn points or RR.

          This is the jist –
You CANNOT earn BR on deals if you redeem BR.
You CAN earn RR while redeeming BR.
You CAN earn BR while redeeming RR.

  19. jennifer p

As I understand, you can not pay for items with points and earn points, so, since you were earning points with the booster cpn, you can’t pay with points. But, if you had any RR’s you could of used those and still earn points.

  20. Tiffany

Yes, I dance, too! My husband looks at me like I’ve lost my mind, but I know he’s dancing on the inside–and thinking, “My wife rocks!” 🙂

  21. Tammy

    Collin YOU rock!!

  22. Julie

Walgreens is extremely tricky and u have to learn what u can and can’t do almost by trial and error since almost EVERY cashier and manager will tell u something different! Once you figure it out, pays off big!

  23. Julie

Cashiers will tell u that u cannot earn rr (register rewards) and pay with rr. This is NOT true, as long as u r not using a reward earned to buy the same item (or being in a group of like items. Example. $2 rr is for Colgate toothpaste/toothbrush/rinse. Cannot buy toothpaste and use that rr to buy rinse) if cashier argues with me, I ask politely to just ring it thru and try it. They very surprised when always works! They are taught that computer won’t do it, but if it goes thru on computer, all are happy to do it.

  25. Holly

I tried to use two almay coupons in a transaction, and the cahier refused to let me. The register beeped when she scanned my second one. Then, she read the coupon, and said that it was limit one per purchase. I had bought the correct products, but I ended up spending 4 extra dollars that I had not planned on. Anyone else have this problem?

    • Mel

I’m not sure why the 2nd coupon beeped, b/c I used 2 yesterday at Walgreens and they both scanned fine.

If they give the one per purchase crap, I tell them all coupons say Limit One Per Purchase, it means you can’t scan this coupon multiple times. That if I have 4 items, I have to present 4 coupons. If I have 2 items, I can’t give you 1 coupon to scan twice.
Or I place the coupons on top of each item and say this is a purchase, this is a purchase and so on, then circle the top of everything and say this is a transaction.

You just have to speak up. I am a shy person, don’t like confrontation. But when I know I’m right, I will stand my ground. A lot of cashiers are not properly trained, so when a coupon beeps, they just presume a customer is up to no good, which is the furthest thing from the truth!

      • marie

I understand your frustration though because this happens all the time to me at Walgreens. You would think that they would want your business and strive to make the customer happy. I frequent Walgreens less and less because of this very issue.

    • Brooke

I’d return the item and then repurchase it with the coupon. If Walgreens employees don’t want to ever try to help customers and use their brains, then I guess they’ll have to do twice the work. I’m a nice, polite person and hate to be a pain, but when I’m continuously treated rudely, which is every time I’m at Walgreens, I can play their game too.

  26. Janet

Is the booster in this wk’s ad?

    • Ashlynn

      Yes on the front page.

      • Linda

        I did –
4 ban cooling cloths-$3.99 with coupon free
2 bags of brachs chocolate candy-2 $2 coupons so .49 each
2 rolls scott paper towels-$1 coupon so $2.99 each after the ivc–$2 CAT back from Scott
2 bags milky way minis-$3/2 coupon $2 each bag
2 Hershey candy coated eggs-$2 each after ivc
$14 plus tax-forgot to scan bonus points so called customer service and they added them to my account. Thanks all for posting-I see another deal I can do today.

      • Janet

        Ty!

  27. Joyce

Was the Ban wipes free coupon regional….I did not get it in the Chicago Tribune SS which usually has all of the coupons listed?

    • Andrea

Joyce, I received it in my Trib – not sure why you didn’t. Was your paper missing a Smart Source insert? There were two on Sunday in the Trib.

  28. Jackie

So now I’m confused, I always hear multiple yes and no. Can I use more than one RR per transaction. I have 4 99 cent ones from last week. Is that all 4 separate transactions or can I use all 4 in one. I know you can only earn one per deal per transaction, but redeeming is separate.

    • Mel

You can use them in the same transaction, but Walgreens registers have this coupon to item ratio & Wags considers RR’s “manuf coupons”, so sometimes you need fillers. Example – If you buy 4 Almay items and have 4 $4 coupons, then you have to add 4 fillers so each RR will have an item to attach to.

      • Jackie

Right, I knew about the q to item ratio just wasn’t sure about the other. That will make my shopping so much simpler no doing different transactions. Thanks much! !

  29. Magdilis

Hi does anyone had a problem with the $4 coupon of Almay. I cut all the coupons already and i didn’t saw it. 🙁

  30. Magdilis

Nevermind i found a new newspaper that i havent cut them and i saw it. My boyfriend was cutting my coupons maybe he didnt saw it. 🙁

  31. Erika

Two of my sharpies didn’t ring up with the others even though they were in the correct bin and the caps were the same, I should have read the fine print. My store carries no almay so that left me short and I ended up buying something at the register to make up the difference which makes me cranky about doing any of this. It just never really works out since I just don’t buy a lot of the processed foods. Thank you for a GREAT website though!

    • Mel

were they Neon colors? Those aren’t included.

    • kali

I feel you. I hate it when my store doesn’t carry items that I want to include in my scenarios. I don’t really like buying filler items that I’m not sure I even want. I’m always leery of doing these promotions when you have to purchase a certain amount especially if there’s uncertainty if the cashier will give you trouble for scanning manufacturer’s coupons before or after discount. Plus sometimes the tags are wrong or items don’t ring up at the right price so that throws off whether you need to buy more or you bought too much. I really think Walgreens should have the machine at CVS that lets you price check. The cash register is always the most stressful part of my trip at Walgreens and I often need to triple check my scenarios and coupons to not forget anything. That and I’m staring like a hawk as the items are rung up to make sure they’re right. Sometimes the savings are great, and sometimes not really worth it for me, but I always appreciate how much I save when things go right and I love being able to read about other people’s experiences and warnings to help alleviate some frustration I get from couponing at Walgreens.

  32. Kim

Will a RR take taxes off or can only be used towards the total before taxes?

    • Alison

RR are deducted after tax, so if you buy a $1 item and use a $1 RR, you will pay a few cents in tax.

  33. Bev

In response to Joyce’s question/comment about the Chicago tribune not having the Ban coupon in it-I purchased 10 copies and about half of them are missing different pages/coupons. What a bummer! Didn’t check on the sections until this pm when I decided to start pulling out the Ban c/o’s. Oh well, live and learn!

  34. kali

If I did the booster and then have to return items, are the points removed from my account?

  35. Stacy

You win some you loss some. Never spend over $25 at walgreens so didn’t even cut out the bonus point coupon. Then realized I bought over $25 on stuff in the time period. There goes $5.
