OK, so before you start reading this post, please keep in mind that your mileage may vary BIG TIME on this deal depending on how your local Staples handles price matches… and likely also depending on the cashier/manager.

Check out the email I received from reader, Ashley, last night:

I left this in the messages section under your iPad Mini Target deal but wanted to send u a message if you wanted to post it! You can price match the iPad Mini at Staples for the $199 price (they are $279 at Staples) and they have a $20 off any tablet coupon that is available in the weekly ad and here! Making it a whopping $179!!! I’ll be doing this deal Sunday at Staples to earn my 5% back in rewards too! 😉

And check out the email and picture (above) I received from her today:

Photo of staples price match. I had no issues using price match and coupon!

NOTE – if you are not able to price match at Staples, other readers have been able to successfully price match at both Best Buy and Walmart… but again, your mileage may vary.

    • Laurie

Rach, I answered down the page.

    • rere

      Can you price match online?

  2. jiya

Thanks a lot for ipad deal. Can someone please suggest some free apps for kids.

    • Laurie

If you go into your App Store, there’s a tab for kids at the top

    • Ashley

      PBS kids!!

      • jiya

Thanks!! Face time, apps… I am new to all this……have to start learning.

        • Laurie

Of you have an apple store nearby, they offer free iPad classes.

          • Renee

            Apple offers something for free?

    • Johnetta

On Fridays there are always some free kids apps promoted 🙂

  3. Guest

I was able to price match at my Walmart – no problem.

    • Tracy Creek (@iamtracy35)

Did you get to use the 20.00 coupon too???

      • Kelly

She said Walmart, not staples so u can’t use the coupon

    • LaToya

      Same here.

  4. Heather C

Hi Collin! I just came home from Staples where I purchased the iPad mini at the Target sale price! In addition, I was able to use the $20 coupon at Staples. I also found a Brookstone Bluetooth keyboard with tech grip case for the mini iPad for $39.50 on clearance. I was told the accessory would be an additional 10% off due to the fact that I was buying the iPad mini. The representative asked me if I wanted to save an additional $5 by checking on upgrading my phone – I did that too! My sub total was $206.59. California tax at 8.75% was $18.08. My price “out the door” was a grand total of $224.67. The representative bent over backwards for me. I am a super happy customer 😃. AND. I will be getting 5% staple rewards too. Does it get any better than this?

  5. yuliya

Just got back from Staples. Got two of those with the price match and coupons. Very happy!

  6. Lynd

What generation of iPad mini is this?

    • Laurie

      First

  7. Laurie

Yes you have FaceTime. But you should know that your warranty starts today.

  8. Andrea

They would not let me do it and gave me a rant about how they would lose their jobs and how it’s not right that others allow this to happen, it’s clearly against policy and on and on. They made me feel terrible for asking. This was in VA

    • julie

Where in VA did you go? That’s awful.

    • Nik

Ah shrug it off. It’s an older model anyway.

    • Andre

How very condescending of them to lecture you on saving money! Businesses offer price-matching to stay competitive and for a front-line employee or store manager berate you for using their policy? Sounds like said person was bottom-hurt that they were on schedule and not being able to purchase and apply the offer themselves.

    • Ashley

Call their corporate, I’m the one who wrote in about this and was completely ready for them fighting me. Or if you have another store near you try that I know people who one said no but another no fight. You are in the right according to their policy the coupon and price match can be used together. Sorry for your bad experience and good luck!

      • Andrea

This was in Springfield, VA – I went over to Best Buy instead to get one with price match and the $10 Ibotta offer. So it’s okay. I just felt bad. I’m sure I’ll be back for the next copy paper, but not for my moving boxes.

        • Helen

I used to live in NoVa/ Springfield etc area, and I hated shopping in that area! uh.

  9. rn30032

no problems price matching and coupons in Atlanta,GA

  10. Deb

My staples wouldn’t honor the $20 coupon. Bummer

  11. Julie

No problems this morning in Cincinnati-price matched and used coupon-no questions asked! The employees were super surprised at the price too!

    • Amy

Which staples in Cincinnati…that’s where i live and might try this. Thanks!

      • Julie

        On Mason Montgomery Rd!

  12. Ali

STAPLES — If you buy the Ipad Mini check out the clearance on the IPAD mini cases. The salesperson was super nice and showed me a bunch that were $39 marked down to $10. I got one made by Targus, but I also saw some by Belkin.

  13. dino

Do you need a rewards card from staples to get this deal

    • jac

No, this is just a price match and an in-ad coupon. Both are available to anyone–no rewards account necessary.

  14. nena

Can you print coupons from it? Coupons.com and target coupons?

    • LynnNV

Coupons.com has an app. You can only print Target Q’s from a desktop computer though. HTH.

  15. Diane

Where do you get the $20 off coupon?

  16. New Yorker

Tried this at staples, they would not do it. I was told they had been instructed by the head office not to do this deal.

    • Shanola

      Which state were you in?

      • New Yorker

Tried it at three stores in NY…no luck.

  17. gege1804

Was anybody in South Florida able to do this? because I called the staples in pine island shopping center and they told me if it’s showing out of stock in target that they won’t price match…

  18. trish @ tagsthoughts.com

Staples wouldn’t let me us their $20 off coupon but they did price match the $199.

  19. trish @ tagsthoughts.com

I should note that I’m in San Diego. 🙂

  20. Mle

I called the store and asked if they could hold 2 minis for me and they said they could for 24 hrs. When I went to the store they told me they made a mistake and were all out of stock. I asked if I could purchase the mini’s online at the store and have it shipped to my home. They said yes. Ordered the mini’s at the store, then paid at the register with price adjusted and $20 off coupon. The sales assoc had to make 2 separate purchases in order to use the $20 off coupon for each. Paid $190 each (incl tax) in VA.

  21. Bizerindy

Can you price match online? I’ve never tried.

  22. Ketryna

Wouldn’t let me use the coupon because they were told from corporate not to allow it. : ( found them at target though.

  23. Christy

I got mine at Staples in Bradenton, FL. I used the $20 off tablet coupon and I did not have any problems. I also bought a case on clearance and received 20% off of that. My original total was $355 and after everything I paid 223. AWESOME! Thank you!!!

    • Jade

Which Staples in Bradenton? I went to the one at Manatee Ave and 71st St. They wouldn’t allow the $20 coupon.

  24. Nicole

I called my Staples store in Florence, KY on Saturday to make sure they would allow price matching and using the $20 coupon and I was told they weren’t supposed to do it but they would. I went in today to buy it and it was a TOTALLY different story. The associate was extremely rude about price matching then informed me he couldn’t do it because Target was out of stock (they never mentioned this on the phone). I told them the manager had given me the ok on the phone and she came over and was super rude saying no one had told her it was out of stock (again because I called about it the day before). In the end they did it but they made me feel like a criminal or something! I am not happy with my Staples experience

  25. Sandra

I called the Staples in Temecula The manager said no I could not use the coupon with price matching. I did score one at the Lake Elsinore Target.

  26. Katie

    Staples price match FAQ says,

Q: How do Staples coupons and rebates contribute to the Staples Price Match?

A: When calculating a price match, we’ll deduct any available Staples coupons, Staples rebates (instant, easy or mail-in) and manufacturer rebates from the Staples price to arrive at a net price.
example: If you buy an item from us for $159 and you have a $30 coupon, the net price is $129. If another company’s price is $125, your price match would be $4 off our net price of $129. Dollars-off coupons will be proportionally deducted from the prices of items in your order.

So I think they will do price match after using or not using a coupon, so final price would be same $199.
Also the item must be in stock from the competitor store.

  27. Mary

I went into staples today to do this and they had no problem at all price matching and to make it better the manager actually was the one that mention that there was also a $20.00 off coupon in the flyer I could use ..!!!!! How awesome huh ….. This was in RI

  28. Tina

I tried 2 different central ohio staples and both told me no price match & coupon per corporate. One manager said absolutely not. The other store said they were no longer even price matching because target is showing sold out online.

  29. Aiymee

Got 2 of them today! They had to order them online for me, but I was pretty excited! 😀 Also got 2 otterboxes for $25 each for them online! $188 each! So glad I read the comments on the post about Target having them on sale back on Saturday! Thanks everyone!! Love how helpful most people are!

  30. Amanda

I price matched at toys r us and used gift cards my kids rec’d for their bdays… really awesome deal!!

  31. kelly

Got 2 – 1 at Target and 1 at Staples ( price match) wouldn’t honor coupon. But still a great deal! -Michigan

  32. Amy

Is this still available for today? Or just the 8th?

  33. ang

Going to try Staples today…but have one ready to be picked up at Target in case. I have an iphone, but never owened an ipad. Should I go for this one or save for a newer generation? How different are they really?

    • shop4mybabies

this one will be slower, have an older operating system. also, the mini is pretty small compared to a normal ipad, however for 199 dollars and apple products almost never going on sale or clearance this is a good deal

      • ang

thanks….on the fence!! wahhhh. hate decisions 🙂

        • Andrea

I have an iphone and bought a mini for my son (traded in ipad one + $100 and got the mini). I love it. Does everything you want it to do. Integrates with your other apple stuff as all apple products to and I like watching TV on it (when I get a hold of it…). I also had no qualms buying it, because some day there will be another opportunity to trade it in and then for $100 or so you can trade up. It uses the latest IOS, so I’m not sure why that would be an issue? The mini is relatively new still, they just came out with it last year, no? I’m sure it can handle the IOS updates for a few years to come.

  34. Tina

Did you print out the online target price? Or did you guys grab a flyer from Target to show staples?

    • lisa l

I went to target and showed them the ad on my phone.

  35. isabella

Got mine at Staples this morning after price matching. They did not allow me to use the $20 in addition to price matching. Instead they set the price to $219 and used the $20 coupon to make it $199. In order words, the coupon was useless. I did however get 5% back for signing up for the rewards card. Same would go for using the target red card. In the end I ended up saving on gas though and still think it’s a great deal. I live in PA

  36. lisa l

My staples manager was VERY rude. He said since target was out of stock they did not have to price match? Huh? Surely some Target somewhere has one?I asked if he has been to all of the targets in the area to verify (I was there Sunday 5 minutes after staples opened), he said no he just “knew”and dismissed me like a child. I will never go back to a staples. I did get two price matched at Walmart no problem.

    • ang

wow, that sucks. my target and the one 30 min away both still have them!

  37. Amy

I just called our best buy and they price match but wont price match this item bc they said it’s only a temporary price drop that Target is doing? Has anyone ever heard of them saying this before? I think it’s total BS!

    • Noel

Hi Amy … I agree that sounds like a shullbit answer!!! I have never heard of not price matching because it’s a “temporary price drop.” Aren’t all ad sales temporary price drops? LOL!!! (Unless it says “new everyday low price” or “new price cut” which should still be matched!) Regardless the ad and online both reflect the price as $199 … And Best Buy’s Low Price GUARANTEE should match it!!! I did read through their policy and I see the potential denial of a price match based on Target’s Ad stating “Quantities Limited” … And also if the product is no longer in stock at Target. Those two things could effect the price matching potential, but not a “temporary price drop.” Ugh!!! If you’re interested, I’d say your best bet is in person … You may get lucky and get the right associate to help you out.

Otherwise check out WalMart … Or Toys R Us for price matching. I personally LOVE Toys R Us for their price matching. And not once have they needed to confirm if the item was “in-stock” online.

  38. Jeannette

Yay Ashley! I saw your original post, found a Staples flier coup, queued up the Target flier on my phone, and hit Staples on Sunday AM. Cashier & manager were friendly & great and got the deal as shown. Thanks so much for posting – I’m typing this on my sexah new mini through the Hip2Save app – SCORE! Oh and I noticed on your receipt pic you’re in MA too 🙂 Didn’t we just have THE most beautiful early summer weather this weekend?! Wish it would stay perfect like that all summer 🙂

    • Ashley

🙂 That we did Jeannette! Glad to hear!

  39. Jeff

I just did this in our store in Salt Lake City Ut, and didn’t have a single issue. Employees and manager were both super nice and surprised what a great deal it was. They said they might get one themselves at the end of the day, haha. Thanks!!

  40. Alison

My staples in Wayne, NJ didn’t have the iPad in store but they let me buy it online through them and honored the price match and coupon. Came to $192 with tax included shipped to my house with delivery expected this Wednesday! Great deal!

  41. Noel

If anyone encounters an “in stock” issue while trying to price match, remember to “find in store” on Target’s website. Chances are somewhere one Target will reflect “in stock.” Viola! The retailer you’re price matching at might change their tune. ;]

  42. Joanna

Collin…once again, THANK YOU!!! I just purchased an iPad mini at Walmart Thursday and ironically didn’t even open it. Obviously, I returned it this morning after confirming the deal with a local Staples. I wound up calling five actually. The first gave me the same reasoning as someone above (not price matching temporary discounts from other stores like Target) but I kept calling down the list. Most would price match but not honor the coupon. Finally store #5 said they would do both…and they DID. I’m thrilled! Thanks to you and all the other helpful followers with their comments.

FYI this was the Staples in North Bergen, NJ in case anyone can benefit from that info.

  43. M

Best Buy in NC matched it for me yesterday. No problems

  44. ang

just went to my staples in MO—manager was super nice but said they couldn’t honor coupon…said all managers got information on this. guess i’ll pick up my one from target.

  45. rachael

Will Walmart ad match this deal? All the targets around me are out. Best Buy won’t because it is out of stock and neither will Hhgregg because of that reason. I’m afraid they will say because it doesn’t state a specific model.

  46. niki

just went to a staples about 40 minutes away from my house, a hike I know but im not mad at all… they price matched and let me use my 20$ off coupon, but not only that they asked me if I wanted the 2 year warrenty for 99$ and I politely declined because it wasn’t for me anyway it was for my sister as a graduation gift and the manager of 20 years said how about she price match it for 149.99 and I only pay 50 for the 2 year warranty. i was thrilled by this customer service that i ended up paying 245.98 for the ipad mini , two year service plan, a targus ipadmini case, and an 8g flash drive, along with 5% rewards back!! ALSO i had my son playing with my cell phone and the manager asked if i was aware of their trade in cell phones and to just check my phone to see if i was eligible they would give me an addition 5$ off.. i was hestitant because i just bought the ipad but then ended up leaving with a new iphone5 with a cute pink outter box case for only 50$!! It gets better because evidently the store was having a pizza party and we were invited for pizza and lemonade!!! what a great day!!! thank you sooo much Collin!

  47. Robyne

Entered Staples this morning and was greeted by a salesclerk, who was very nice. He asked his manager about price matching Target’s ad, they checked the computer while I picked up some items for the office(using staples coupons of course). When I was ready to check out, the clerk rang me up with the manager next to him, who remarked what a great deal it was and he was going to get one himself. With two gift cards from previous buys, my out of pocket was 145.00. Thanks to the one who suggested this.,.my husband is going to be so surprised on Sunday.

  48. Angie B.

No Staples near me! 🙁 But I was able to price match at Walmart. I am putting the Ipad away for the hubby’s birthday coming up, since his Kindle Fire isn’t working right anymore.

  49. T

I am a Manager at staples and people like you make me angry. You realize its your fault that stores are closing and the economy is going down. We lose money on every sale. We can not by policy price match and use a coupon unless its staples rewards. All those employees that did the match and coupon should have their supervisors fired because corporate clearly commumicated this to us on saturday. Shame on all you. If im out of a job soon its because of all you. 🙂

    • Jeff

If your store closes it’s because managers like you don’t encourage business by rejecting or turning down customers that come into your store. The $179 dollars that could have come into your store went to another store, allowing them to grow and crush you. Not to mention the money that won’t be spent at your store in the future by the same customer who doesn’t want to support a store that treats them like that. You might consider some PR skills and seek the long term goal instead of encouraging customers and money to go somewhere else. If that’s the policy of the coupon it should state that it’s not valid with other offers or price matching…it doesn’t state that anywhere.

    • niki

your funny!!! do you realize attitude like that will get you out of a job a lot sooner than people who price match and use a coupon!!! i will be referring people and doing all my shopping at a store that is customer friendly excuse my French but take the stick out of your a$$ and let the other stores do what they do best! sell products with a smile on their face! they made 300$ today off of me..im sure a little coupon and price match isn’t going to hurt oh and thanks to me their sales are up this week! p.s if you lose money because of me..perhaps you shouldn’t accept coupons better yet don’t price match! wow!

      • niki

(i bet your real angry now;) ) well off to cook my family some dinner enjoy a nice kids movie and add this gift to my Christmas closet!

        • T

Im not rude about and my customer’s understand the policy. Its company policy im not making it up. Ive been working for staples for 10 years and worked my way up from a cashier so I know how it works. Ive won many service awards. It just aggravates us when you make a big deal about taking a coupon with a price match when its clearly against policy and then threaten to call corporate for doing my job. Please accept any apology if I came off rude I did not mean to I just dont need “customers” threaten my job for doing my job.

          • Jeff

I’m sorry if one customer threatened to call Corporate. I’ve never done that at any store, ever. Please don’t group all customers and couponers together. I’m sure you can see from all the other responses before your’s, that those turned down by other managers didn’t put up a fuss, they just went to a different location or sometimes a different store completely. If that was the reason you were worried about losing your job, and you know you were correct in upholding your policy, there was no reason to call anyone out on here. PLUS if you’re on here, your looking for the best deal the same as everyone else. I don’t think Staples is going to close over a couple thousand dollars on this particular deal.

  50. Craig

I just went to 2 different Staples, in 2 different cities (job/work so not that far outta way lol) and was told the same thing at both. They will NOT match price and then take of coupon as per the email sent from corporate telling them and some crap about its in their price matching tiny print. Well, guess what? FINE, I took my hard in money and spent it at Target instead! They want to loose customers over $20? No problem!!!!

    • Craig

      in? lol….earned money.
