I love that this recipe uses fresh oranges instead of sweeteners, and the frozen bananas eliminate the need for ice and make it extra smooth and creamy.

Blend all ingredients in a high powered blender until smooth and frothy. Makes about 3 servings. The key is using really ripe sweet oranges so that no sweetener is needed. Enjoy
Love all your dairy-free recipes!!!!! I can’t wait to try this one… GOt to go to target to get some Silk (just saw the video on target deals 🙂
I know, sweet deal 🙂
Just curious, what does the almond milk taste like? Thought it was worth a try for .99.
It tastes like almonds. Texture/Thickness wise it’s like skim milk.
Its does in fact taste like almon
ds very rich and nutty flavor.
I prefer the coconut vanilla (lifetime dairy drinker, transitioning off of cow milk). I thought almond milk texture was too thick and its a beige color (which was a bit much for me, lol) The coconut SILK looks like cow milk and is thinner than Almond milk. Good luck on your taste test!!!
The Vanilla almond milk (the only one I buy) tastes like a thin vanilla milkshake. Yummy!
Looks so delicious! Now I need to goto the store for some oranges!
This isn’t an Orange Julius recipe. The title is misleading.
Is doesn’t claim to be THE “Orange Julius”. It says a “homemade healthier non-dairy VERSION”.
It does say “Homemade orange Julius” on the picture.
agreed. I actually just made real orange julius’s this morning and it had frozen orange juice, water, milk, a tad bit of sugar and vanilla with some ice cubes! It tasted like the real deal. This might be yummy but the title IS misleading. And I don’t think the “real” ones are that un healthy.
Rachell–do you have the recipe for the “real” orange julius?
Lina, do you like your Ninja blender? I’m in the market for one and am unsure of which one to purchase! Thanks!
Yes, works great! I still do hope to own a Vitamix..someday 🙂
Just curious… What’s spl abt vitamix?
Vitamix is very useful, in almost everything. You can make ice cream, soup, juice, nut butter, dough pizza and a lot more and it comes with a recipe book. I got mine from costco 3 years ago for $375 and I think the latest price is about $450 to $475. I do recommend this product.
Thanks for the info.
I did a lot of research before buying a blender…I ending up buying a reconditioned vitamix blender from their website. Vitamix.com. It comes with a 5 year warranty that covers everything. Looks brand new and comes with everything you need , including a cookbook. Cost $350.00. Best investment ever!!!! Check out their website, or you can call and talk to someone in person. I absolutely love mine, it doesn’t even compare to a ninja .
Best blender et al I’ve ever used. It does everything perfectly.
You say no sweetener, but the milk itself has a fair amount in it! Sounds yummy though.
Yes meant added sugar which some recipes do for this type of drink 🙂
Sounds tasty!!! Quick question: Do the bananas have to be frozen? I have a bunch of bananas on my counter…I was wondering if it really made a difference between room temp. bananas v. frozen ones?
Thanks!
It makes ALL the difference. Frozen bananas is a must!
Use organic whole milk — much healthier than the Silk stuff (look at ingredients!). 🙂
I had no idea Mandy! Yes, organic milk is definitely healthier. Thanks for pointing that out!
But I guess almond milk is a decent substitute for those who can’t tolerate lactose.
Mandy the whole point was making a Dairy-Free version! There are plenty of recipes out there that include milk.
To be honest, the Silk has decent ingredients compared to some brands, and refrigerated is almost always better than boxed. The whole idea was a dairy free recipe but you could sub what you normally drink.
Don’t freeze your bananas with the skin on!
I’ve made that mistake and boy oh boy was it a mess when they defrosted! Lol!
Anyone know of a good substitute for bananas? My son is allergic to bananas but would love a drink like this.
Just use ice cubes. Poor guy. It will be great.
thank you for the coupons i love silk milk i want more coupon
Trader joe’s Almond milk is carrageenan free, so this is what I always buy 🙂
Are the oranges blended and frozen? They looked like the shape of ice cubes. Just curious if I could freeze orange juice or blend and freeze the oranges to make them last longer. Thank you for sharing!!!
Linda Isbell Howard,
How do you freeze banana’s without them turning black, and no skin on them!? I was curious for some tips and any advice us greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunches in advance!
I just peal and slice ripe bananas into a Tupperware freezer container. I’ve never had them turn black. Maybe thew Tupperware is more air tight than what you are using Donna? The slices are also great to toss into your oatmeal as its cooking. Adds just enough sweetness.
I guess it is personal preference, I peel mine and leave them hold to freeze because they are easy to break up even in frozen state, so when I use them in my smoothies I just take them out and break in half. They don’t turn black unless you are talking about the actual skin, I let mine get really ripe before freezing because it seems to bring out the sweetness and so I don’t use any other sweetener
I use frozen orange juice in mine, and honey for sweetener. Make them all the time 🙂
