anybody have any experience? are they good quality if they were only $5 beforehand? thanks!

I purchased these backpacks last year for my girls in 3rd and 5th grade. They held up pretty well considering how cheap they were. School started in August and they held up until about at and they started to separate from the straps. So I can say I did get my money’s worth and I didn’t expect them to last that long. .

I was at the store yesterday, the quality of the $5 back packs are really not good, i wouldn`t buy it. But, I saw some back packs on clearance, ORG price from 9.99-12.99, they are 75% off for 2.XX–3.XX, those are much better the the $5 ones.

Not good quality. If you need it for school/everyday use, don’t consider these. Unless you buy a few to make it through the year. Then you might as well buy a heavy duty one when it’s on sale for the same.

If you don’t need one consider picking one up for donation to your local school. Half of my students don’t have backpacks every year and I know there are thousands of others who go without. Even if the quality stinks and the backpack lasts 3 months, it will brighten a child’s life those 3 months.

I donate every year. After years of volunteering at my children’s elementary school, you realize what a need there this. No matter where you live.

    • Carla

Good point! I’m buying school supplies mostly for donation. No idea what school I’m giving the stuff to, but doing it!

    • Leslie

Do you just bring stuff directly to your school office? Also, would a school take used backpacks? My kids have over a handful of like new Jansport backpacks. Thanks for any help.

Donating was better than my idea. i was thinking at this price they are as cheap as gift bags and would be good to keep for parties!

  4. Gina

I buy 4 of these every year. Donate them to my daughters class. I let the teacher decide who needs one at the end of the first week of school starting. I add a notebook, pencils, crayons and a sharpener. This year I need to get 8 as my baby is starting Kinder πŸ™

    • Gina

Also may I add. They last longer for Kinder-2nd grade since they don’t carry many heavy items yet. πŸ™‚

I agree! Worked ok for my 3rd grader, but my 6th grader had his all torn up and zippers broken in 1-2 months because he had heavier things in it.

  5. Layla

Guess I thought it was a good deal but only saving $2 would rather buy a better quality

  6. Stephanie

Sounds like they could be ok for occasional use – sleepovers, beach/park stuff, road trip car entertainment, etc.

  7. Trish

Bought one at Walmart.com for $3.98 and it was very nice quality, better than these and should last the year.

  8. Holly

I was just thinking about this! I was wanting to donate to the Family Giving Tree’s Back to School drive, but didn’t want to spend too much on a backpack.

    • Livvy

Anything is better than nothing at all! I’m sure they’d appreciate it. πŸ™‚

Hoping to get tons as return gifts for daughter bday in sep, filled with back to school supplies, I get from all the 1 cent deals or cheap. They were a big hit last year. This year we moved, so we have new crowd getting the same gift. I feels these are so much more useful than other return gifts.

  10. Vishnu

Ooh. How about price matching at Walmart or target?

  11. Brittany

Walmart has whole kits for $6.98 that you can purchase and donate. I plan to donate at least 4.

Wish Office max/depot would do their freebie after maxperks again..what a quality backpack that was…has lasted 3 years and cost me .01…. all donations are generous, but it would be nice to donate something like that (one that isn’t likely to break) since I will just have my kids keep using until they can’t anymore!! thank you to the poster who reminded us that are couponing can really help others!! I am seeing that more and more online now instead of people just building stockpiles πŸ™‚

    • mindy

are they stopping the maxperks reward? I haven’t seen anything lately. I got really great backpacks in the past.

If you don’t need one, there are other organizations that can distribute them. I am a member of a Facebook group that distributes donated items to our homeless citizens.
