Target: Toy Clearance Now 70% Off

As I have mentioned previously on Hip2Save, Target hosts a Toy Clearance event twice a year – usually in January and July – where select toys and possibly other items are marked up to 70% off…and it appears that today is that day! 😀 Although clearance bargains vary greatly by region, here are just a few bargains you may want to keep an eye out for…

[h2s_box]Check out a few emails that I received from Hip2Save readers across the country…

Here is my toys sale haul! $131 and tax for $460 in toys after red debit card and sale! This was all from one store in Olathe, KS (south of Kansas City).

I did have the lady scanning scan ALL of my toys. They did not “activate” at 70% until she did. I don’t think that is ever the case with seasonal sales…but it was for this toys sale.

Target was marking down toys. Many toys were 70% off. I spent $99.64 and got 24 items.[/h2s_box]

Yes, that was the case for me in MI. I had to have the lady with the price scanner, scan them all first before the markdown would work ;0)

    • Danielle

What do you mean by that? Im confused by having someone scan them with a scanner.

    • Rachel L

      April- where in Michigan?

  2. Quiana S

LOTS at one of my local Targets. I bought 11 toys for $39. Great deals!!!

  3. AmyJ

Palm Desert Ca Target marked down almost all the clearance toys to 70% off this morning. There was still a lot left when I checked out at 9 AM!

  4. LynnNV

I found some TAG reader books on clearance too. Last year I bought the TAG reader for less than $20. 🙂

  5. Suzanne H

Went to Short Pump, VA store today at lunch. Pretty wiped out already but I did get a couple of puzzles and the big Darth Vader (although they didn’t have the gold version like in the pic above – just the black). My son will love it and I can use it as a decoration and gift for his Star Wars themed bday party. Legos were long gone.

    • Erin

Pretty wiped out in Chesterfield, too. There were some nice higher end things ($50+) but mostly just smaller, junky crap.

      • Bianca

        Cool I’m in Chesterfield too.

  6. Kate

If I go an there isn’t an employee scanning toys, do I assume that everything that is clearance is already activated?

    • Heather

You could price check and find out. Nothing was marked down at my store in Wilmington, NC. 🙁

  7. Mary

Did anyone find clearance deals in Cleveland, OH?

    • Mary

      Willoughby and Mentor had deals.

  8. Amanda

My store had 70% off toys and they also had a buy 1 get 1 40% off even the clearance toys! This is in minneapolis mn

    • MJ

      Which Target in Minneapolis?

      • Amanda

Actually it was at both of the Apple Valley, Minnesota stores.

    • Sara

Amanda Lake Street or Edina? Downtown Minneapolis?? TY!!

      • KH

Downtown is 70. So is Ridgedale. SLP is not.

      • Amanda

The buy 1 get one 40% off was at the Apple Valley stores. Sorry for the confusion.

        • Leigh

Yesterday Lakeville was still at 50%

    • Julie

Quarry still sems to be at 50% off too (plus the buy one get one 40%)

  9. Heather

I was at the Wilmington, NC Target at 9am this morning in anticipation of this sale and nothing was marked down to 70% off. 🙁 I was super sad considering it was a 40 mile roundtrip drive from where I live. I spoke to a store associate that was wondering by and they knew nothing of the markdown. Anyone know if it happened later in the day or what?

  10. Amy

    Any clearance in Erie pa?

    • Anna

I live in Erie, PA too!

  11. samantha

only 50% at my store in san Antonio tx and a man had 3 carts of toys so im guessing it wont make it to 70% so i only got 3 toys my daughter really wanted

    • Erin

That’s the way to do it! People proudly post pics of their hauls (paid $170, SAVED $600!) but I’ll bet the vast majority is a waste of money that just ends up cluttering their homes, trashing up their friends or family’s homes, or ends up at Goodwill. Their kids are still going to want the next hot toy, which aren’t the things Target’s clearing out. Best to buy just a couple things that you know will be loved than carts full of weird junk that you have to figure out what to do with.

  12. Gail

My target had but 1 toy get 2nd 40% off. Didn’t see anything 70% off. Is this desk online too?

  13. Nabz

Any clearance update in the chicago area?

    • April

Everything was still 50% off in the St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia area this morning. I did buy some Melissa & Doug items, still a great deal with the additional 40% off B1G1.

      • Paula

Thanks for the update April 😉

      • maria

There was lots of 50 and 70 but u have to scan to see if the price dropped to 70 or not

    • Miranda

Checked Schaumburg and Streamwood. Only some toys went 70. Most were still 50 and I was told they were done scanning.

    • Adri mom

Lemont store still not at 70.

      • Jessica

Crystal Lake store had some at 70% some less, but coupled with the buy one get one 40% off there were some good deals!

    • Laura

I went tonight around 7pm to the Target on North Ave in Villa Park. Many toys were 70% off, plus they had the B1G1 40% off. I almost felt bad about the deals!! 🙂

  14. Ashlie

Anything Thomas and Friends marked down? (And if not, when’s a good time to catch a sale on the trackmaster items? My son just now got interested in it..)

    • stokes

Nothing Thomas on clearance. Try Toys R Us.

    • Mer

I saw thomas stuff. Some of the track master trains and a track set

    • Destinee

My store had individual Percy and Rosie Mega Bloks trains at $3ea. Percy and Thomas light-up trackmaster trains at $4.74ea. 3 different take n play trains w/ small track set for $3.50ea (characters from Spills and Thrills). And then I saw one small trackmaster starter set for $6.44. This was in 3 different Targets in Los Angeles area. HTH 🙂

    • Holly

People on IG are posting some of their finds. 1 gal just posted a pic of a T&F Trackmaster set for $6.44 (see IG page for dcpi details). See link below for pic.

very few mark downs at Jackson Mississippi store at 50% and 70%. Mostly older kids games age 12+ and older and older kids toys. Nothing worth getting for me.

    • Megan

Thanks Stacey…saved me a trip over there!

    • Sbowling

Wonder about the Target at Flowood…..

  16. Kim

70% off at paramus nj store. Mot much left

    • Megan

Kim – have you been to any others in NJ? I’m in Montclair and wondering if it’s worth a drive to a few closer to me. Thanks!

  17. Casey

I am in St. Louis. Brentwood, MO was being marked down to 70% this afternoon..

  18. Laura Herrera

    anything in Los angeles ca?

    • Halle

Target Westwood has Inno tab 3S and Leap Pad 2 for $23.00. I already have the leap pad ultra so I picked up the inno tab for my son so he can play with it in the car! I also bought a Graco playpen for $19.99. You have to look. Good luck….btw Melissa and Doug was marked down to 2.99 the puzzles

  19. Tracy

If I got some items when they were 50% off last week can I get them price adjusted to the 70% off?

    • Dorie

They don’t pride adjust on clearance 🙁

      • Ashley57

If it is still in the store, you could return it and buy it again.

  20. meghna

anyone near seattle /redmond in WA ?

    • Memz

most clearance toy at Woodinville is at 70% you just have to hurry few items left when i visited this afternoon

  21. cely

I scored some great deals today. There were still a lot of toys left in Fort Worth, TX.

    • lindsey

Was it the eastchase one by chance?

  22. Cara

This is always YMMV, so call your store before driving 40 minutes to find stuff!
Our stores in the Bay Area have never gone to 70% that I can think of in the 6 years I have lived here. Right now they are all at 30% off where they will stay for weeks before the remainders go to 50%.
So call your stores before you head out!

    • annad

I love in norcal bay area and two stores had marked downs I got three carts full and one store still has a ton

      • Rita

Can you please mention the location also ?

    • Ali

70% here in San Leandro. I have seen 70% many times in San Leandro and Hayward over the years. I don’t know about how much there is to pick from because I never go early in the morning when they first do markdowns. I do often get a few good toys.

  23. Stephanie

Anyone find anything in San Diego area?

  24. Tina

Central Texas: Has anyone been to Target in Round Rock, Pflugerville, or Georgetown to check it out?

    • Leighton

Tina- I went this AM to the Pflugerville (130) target and most things were 70%. Things were getting wiped out fast. Lots of people walking around with full carts.

      • Tina

Thanks for letting me know. Hopefully, G’town and RR aren’t wiped out too. *fingers crossed*

  25. athena

My Target was pretty much wiped out…Oh well. Going to check 🙂

    • athena

Going to check out a couple consignment stores instead tomorrow. Maybe I’ll find some deals there instead 🙂

      • Simi

Don’t forget garage sales and craigslist. We have purchased many items for little one this way. Huge money saver, especially when you are on a very tight budget 🙂

      • Tina

Be sure to check out the Just Between Friends consignment Fall/Winter event too. The Georgetown/Round Rock, TX, sale is set for October 22-25 at Old Settlers in Round Rock. They always have TONS of toys it’s a great way to clean out the kids’ closets and play rooms and make a little money at the same time. I love it!

  26. Jennifer

Spent $174.19 and retail prices with tax would have been $612.81! It was good to get there early as 6 people showed up right when I was finishing u. :). Will have happy girls Christmas morning!

  27. Patrice

Just went to my target in Alabama. Decent stock. Got $66 worth of toys for less than $20! Some Christmas shopping done!

  28. Alicia

where do i find the buy 1 get 1 40% off

  29. amanda

I’m sorry for asking, but does anyone have a dominos code they wont be using? I could really use it tonight. TIA! My email is amandab0722@hotmail.com

    THANK YOU

  30. Sue

Does target toys clearance go down to 90% like the other seasonal sales?

    • Sarah

No. 70% is the lowest for regular (non-holiday) clearance.

  31. Lindsey Prescott

The clearance toys I purchased today rang up with the “buy 1 get one 40% off” making for some great deals!!

  32. Christina

I went to the Target on Michigan Rd in Carmel, IN after work and found lots of things. Most we’re not marked 70% but rang up correctly.

  33. Alicia

Went to one in Lincoln, NE half was 70% and others 50% off…none rang in at buy 1 get 1 40% off but still got 20 items for 104!!

    • Kathy

      Which lincoln location?

  34. Amanda

Anyone else not happy with the toy clearance items? I feel like it’s all junk…last year I had carts full… Darn

    • Erin

Yup. I’ve felt like it’s been all junk for the past few years. Lots of dated/gimmicky junky plastic stuff primarily w/ TV & movie tie ins. Years ago, I remember awesome Lego clearances. Now it’s only the really weird ones and they don’t go all that low because everyone insists on buying them at 15 percent off.

      • MommySpendsLess

Agreed! When my now-5yo was 1-2yo I used to find a fair amoun of classic toys (dolls, wooden train set etc.) but the last two years I havent seen much i wanted because only the trendiest items are being gotten rid of. It makes sense from Target’s point of view…or maybe more and more traditional toys are getting character tie-ins.

  35. Stacy

    maryland?

  36. American Girl Ideas

I love this time of year! I found several items for a great deal at the Orem Target.

  37. crystal

Michigan has the deals for over $350 worth of stuff for $95 !

    • Kendra

Where in Michigan did you shop?

  38. Anna

Lake Charles LA, most things went to 70% but there still seemed to be a lot of things at 50% and I know they were done scanning because it was afternoon when I went. There were some nano blocks sets, lots of games. Many sections seemed to be totally wiped out though. I bought a lot last week at 50% and I’m glad I didnt wait because everything I bought except the nano block sets was all gone.

I’m not sure why so many things didn’t drop. Some of you mentioned having the ladies scan. Last week when they were going from 30-50% I asked a lady to check a few items for me and was told they aren’t supposed to scan for customers! that I needed to use the electronic scanner in the section. She said there had been altercations about the price of the toys, so I guess the rule is to protect them from aggressive people.

  39. Yasmincrz

Lots of toys didn’t have the 70% off sticker n priced checked them and the rang up 70% off! Got lots of toys for my kiddos..

  40. Soccermom

Got an Our generation Doll house for $29.99!! Big score!! Price online shows $119.99. 😃

  41. M.

Spent $103 and got 5 Lego sets (one was reg. $79.99), some baby toys for shower gifts, imaginext, etc.

  42. Clare

Talk about timing! I left work 30 minutes later than planned (4:30 in the afternoon) and went to Target to pick up my $10/$40 in store pick up deals. Before I picked up my online order, I decided to walk through the toy section, but had thought it would have been picked clean. To my surprise, the first thing i saw were TAG books (I had some $4 coupons) and took my time and looked around. I walked down the Lego aisle, and everything still appeared to be 30% off except the TNMT Legos which were 70%, so I picked those up. After going back to the Tag books to get more, the Target worker scanning the toys had moved into the Lego section, and what had previously been marked 30% off was now 70% off! I was able to pick up TNMT, Iron Man Super Heroes, and 2 different Lego Chima sets all for 70% off.

  43. Britt

I went to Chesterfield MO just now and they were pretty picked over. Had a few things but all of the racks that said clearance were mostly empty.

  44. Jenn

I scored an Easy Bake oven that my daughter has been wanting for $13.48 – regularly $44.99. Packing it away for Christmas. I also found a $12.99 Lego Knights set for just over $3.00 that wasn’t marked as well. Not much else was left but I was happy!

  45. Lisa

119th & metcalf target location in Overland Park, KS had the far aisle and several back end caps of the toy section with clearance but most was 50% off. There’s an end cap near the entrance with the angry birds racing sets too. I got these disney princess play dough dress decoration kits to save for girl birthday parties.

  46. Kathryn C

The target employees have a Gemini that the price changes are downloaded to from corporate until they scan the item, count it and press enter the price will not be changed. That process is called a price change or markdown.

  47. Natalya

Is any way that sale will continue tomorrow? I am in Raleigh, NC

    • Katy

It’s not a sale – just clearance markdowns – so yup, it’ll still be on tomorrow assuming your store still has stock. Good luck!

  48. Katy

I went to Target last week or so and wasn’t all that impressed with what was marked down 50% for my almost 2 year old son. I saw a lot of pretty cool little girls clearance though. I was in no rush to get to Target tonight so I didn’t get there until 8:30pm. Found the Billy Beats thing, for $12, a Bright Starts kitchen for $10, a Mike the Knight sword and shield set for around $3, and a puzzle block set for $1.50 🙂 I’m pretty happy with my purchase. Definitely worth going later and
not having to squeeze through a crowd of parents lol. Last year, I happened to be there when they were marking the toys down and it might as well have been Black Friday. It was a MADHOUSE.

  49. Queenjen87

I didn’t get by the small store by me until after 6pm et today. I managed to get 8 items (including the tag level 2 reading set for $6.xx and a leapster game for $7.94) for $47 after tax. I did see the ezbake oven for $13.54 but passed sense dd is only 4 and it recommended for ages 7+… Keeping a toy with heating elements more than 1-2 years is just asking for it to me, but my store still had 3 sense it wasn’t marked but scanned correctly. I’ll try the other store that had 8 of the Sofia art easels on Saturday, but it was too far of a drive for me today. Still very happy to fill in a couple holes in the gift closest.

  50. Marissa

Stores in the Tampa Bay area were included in this! Got Barbie stuff, sophia the first, baby alive dolls($5!!)… tons of stuff 70% off!
