I always purchase my paper towels from Costco (Kirkland brand), but now I am wondering if they are overpriced. What is a good bargain when it comes to the price per roll of paper towels? Also, I feel like Kirkland paper towels are of decent quality, so how to I determine which brands also offer good quality towels and not “cheap” quality?

    • Suzanne H

Personally, I think Bounty Basic stinks! The rolls run out really quickly and the towels are poor quality. I guess that’s why they are “basic” (and cheap). I don’t buy them but I do buy Brawny and Sparkle. I think they are the best when it comes to “bargain” paper towels. Target’s Up & Up brand isn’t too bad. Bounty and Viva are great quality but it’s much harder to come by good deals for those. I try to hit about $0.75 per roll but different areas will have different price points; the area I live in is kind of expensive but not as bad as NY or someplace like that. It’s really hard to figure out a great deal on paper towels and toilet paper b/c of the difference in sheet counts so I’ve just made this my general guideline for brands I know and like. BTW, I agree that Kirkland brand is a decent brand – much better than Bounty Basic – but I wouldn’t pay more than $1 per roll for any brand.

Great, thank you for the information!

Best way is to do a comparison of the towels to decide what you like best. I just did a calculation per sheet:

      Costco per sheet = .0091

      Bounty per sheet= .0097 less Cash Back Site= .0095 less Staples 5% reward back= .0090

      So pretty close.

I like bounty, my son makes eggs every morning and I actually use these to wash the pan and they hold up every time.

Is the Staples Rewards Program a line of credit (like a Target card or a Kohls card)?

    • susan

No it is not….it just tracks what you buy….think of it like a loyalty card

    • Rachel

Nope it is just a rewards card.

where does it show the 5% cash back? should it be off my total?

    • Ellen

No, I believe it will go into your rewards balance and be sent to you once you hit a certain amount.

Make sure you use the coupon code prior to adding any rewards! You get more money off and it will keep you from falling under the $20.00 minimum required for the coupon code 🙂
