Thanks! Got two for two of my kids who have been asking to learn on their own machines!

Does anyone have this? I lost some parts to my current machine and am looking for a replacement, and I have never seen any Brothers at this price, it’s an awesome price!!!, but I was looking through the reviews and it looks like there is no way to go slow on it…. does anyone know if this is true? My mom uses my machine when she comes over, and I would like to use it as well (I am a beginner, my mom can sew an evening gown). I would be ok with just basic things, but I feel being able to go slowly is a basic thing.

I saw the bit about not being able to go slow in the 1 star reviews too! To me, this is a reason not to buy.

      • Lolita

Yeah, me too, but then there are so many good reviews. I’m trying to figure out if they got duds or if it is really a fault of the machine in general… If it doesn’t sew slowly, though, then I don’t want it since most of the things I sew is me eyeballing it as I slowly slow…

I own this one. I bought it 3 years ago and it’s still in great shape. I don’t use it much but I do alteration, have been sewing few things and love it.

      • Karen

@Alla ~ Is it either full power or off like reviews say? Or can you go slow with it?

        • Alla

You sure can go slow with it. It has a pedal and that’s what controls the speed/stitching. I am not a novice though. I’ve been sewing for years now and had different machines before also but this one is a really nice one. Like I said I still use it and it’s still in great shape. I stitched thick towels, made rags from them and thinnest mesh pouches from a very thin mesh fabric for cremes and they came out great. I remember sewing a dress for myself on it for my lil ones birthday. Also made some cute cloth diapers. The only thing I wish they had with it is the overlock needle. I bought few online compatible with it but they broke. Overall it’s a nice machine to have on hand.

      Brothers are awesome seeing machines.

You can control the speed with foot controller pedal… If you go slow, just stamp the pedal a bit… Usually the machine does have kind of switch for start and stop, they do not have speed control. If machine has foot controller pedal, like this, you can adjust the speed by your feet.
Is that what you are asking?!

    • Lolita

Yes, that is the only way I know of making it slower (there may be other ways with different models, but in the machines I have used, I control the speed with my foot). I was just concerned because some of the reviews say that you cannot do it (go slowly). It is hard to step on, and then it goes full blast. There are so many good reviews, though, that it makes me wonder i it is case by case.

I have one like this — it’s hard but you can go slower. The pedal with the wire attached on the left of the picture Collin posted is what you use to make it go, like an accelerator on a car. You step on it to make it go — if you push really, really carefully then you can make it go slower. It’s hard for me to do because the pedal is pretty small and kind of stiff, but it is possible.

    • Lolita

Thanks Erin, that is what I was wondering about!

      • Lolita

I’m going to think about it (with my luck they will sell out if I decide to get it..) I would rather have my effort and concentration go to the item I am sewing instead of trying to get the pedal to the right speed, but it is quite a deal I think.

    I’d love to own one!

I own this machine, and I’m confused about the concern it won’t go slow. It has a pedal, so you control its speed with your foot. I’ve done all sorts of projects on this machine with minky fabric, cotton, and duck cloth, so it can handle a variety of fabrics. It’s really a great machine. I’m not new to sewing and have worked as a skilled seamstress, so I’ve used more expensive, professional machines. This one is definitely not a professional machine, but it’s perfect for crafting and basic clothing construction.

    • Karen

Thanks to all who have replied about the speed. Our inquiries are based upon the one star Amazon reviews indicating there is no way to control speed. I am a novice sewer and would want this for basic mending and would want to be able to go slooooow 🙂

    • Lolita

      Hi Melissa,
Some of the reviews say the pedal is hard to push on and then once you are able to push it zooms. Based on your comment and a previous posters comment, I am thinking the issue with the product may vary by product. I have used other products in the past that are based on pressure exerted on a device and I know how that can be an issue. It does seem like it isn’t totally a universal issue… I may just order this machine :). Originally I wanted to be able to monogram as well… so I don’t know if to put this money towards another machine (those are a lot more expensive from what I am seeing) or get this one…. hmmm….

I have this sewing machine and love it. I had it over 5 years but only use it for light crafting and projects. If you are worried about the pedal, go to Wal-Mart (if you have one near by) and test theirs out. They usually have a display model on the floor, or you can call ahead to save time. I do agree with others that speed it dictated by your foot pressure.

Brothers are horrible sewing machines. Save you money and go for a Singer. My mom’s, sister’s and mine all went out around the same time with the same issue. Bobbins and just stops working. Pieces of junk.

  9. Jessica

Price I am seeing is $94.05 where is the $58.99 one?

    • Karen

      Deal is expired.

  10. Crystal

Bought this and ended up sending it back. Even when pressing on the pedal very lightly the machine goes super fast. This might be ok if I had more sewing experience but I am still just a beginner and like having more control of the speed of my machine. Otherwise this seemed like a nice machine.
