Just a tip about balance bikes: save your money and buy a regular bike and remove the pedals. Same effect, but you end up with a real bike to ride!
While in theory this is a good idea. Balance bikes are might lighter weight to make it possible for child to balance and glide as well as handle the bike with ease. We’ve had 2 Striders and I highly recommend! Getting my son the Strider ski attachment for his bike this winter, can’t do that with a regular bike 🙂
To each his own. My son had no problems with the weight or handling of his bike, but he was only four, so his bike was small and light to begin with. Once he figured out how to balance, he immediately wanted those darn pedals, so a balance bike would have been collecting dust in the garage after a weekend’s use.
Erin that’s what we do. Much much cheaper 🙂
Oh really?? Thanks Erin..was just planning to get one for my son 🙂
We brought a balance bike for our son and he was able to switch over to a regular bike within a month. It was a good investment. He is only 4 years old and he can ride a regular bike already.
Meh about the balance bikes. I put my three year old on a razor scooter and he could ride a bike without training wheels before he was four. It took my husband less than five minutes to get him riding on his own. And the scooter is still useful. I don’t understand balance bikes.
I bought my kiddos balance bikes – they were way too tall for even the tallest balance bikes. If your kiddos are long-legged, beware! My kids were above the 95th percentile for height, and the balance bikes were useless. Their knees were bumping into their ears when they’d try to ride them. lol!
The lights and sounds trikes are awesome! We have three! Two for our house and one at our vacation house. My kids (3&4) love them and even our 6 and 7 year old neighbors ride with no problem. Great customer service too–one of the plastic wheels got worn after two years of riding and they mailed me a replacement for free!
