My oldest son, who turned 17 one month ago today, was born 8 weeks early also.
We did five weeks of daily, one hour visits to the NICU — well I would highly recommend that Mommy brace herself for a labor that is much more difficult…
Make the nurses kick you out, get escorted by security if necessary, but do NOT allow ANYONE to take the bonding time that every other mom and child are allowed.
It is a blessing to have your precious loved baby healthy. Mom, YOU DID THAT without a PhDs help…. so Remeber that MOM tells the Dr’s and not the other way around.
I pray that the Lord keep a special watch over your family, gracing you with NOT needing to be strong
NICU’s are VERY different today. You can stay 24 hours a day and no one will ever ask you to leave (they may suggest it just for your own sanity though). My daughter was born 12 weeks early, 1 lb 10 oz and is a typical 4 yr old today. This little guy will be great too!
My 13 y/o son was nine weeks early, he looked just like this! So beautiful!!! He is a awesome gift for me, at 3lbs 6oz and 16 inches long he is now 155 pounds and 5’7 and isnt done growing yet!! So small but you know what they say the greatest gifts come in small packages!! Congrats!
That’s a big 13 year old! I need to get as many cuddles in with my 9 year old before he outgrows me soon.

Congratulations, Erica! I know it can be a scary time. My son was 10 weeks early. It’s amazing how well they do! You would never know that my son was a preemie. He’s 5 now and doing amazing! He’s a tall, healthy boy and above grade level in school. Try to think positive thoughts. It is a long road in the NICU but they really do a great job to help our little babies! Sending prayers your way.

My niece was born at 28 weeks gestation, and she is a happy, healthy 2 yr old now. I know you are probably very scared and worried for him right now, but modern medicine can do amazing things. Love and peace. Merry Christmas and CONGRATULATIONS!
What a wonderful little miracle! 10 months ago I had a 2lb 5oz little girl. She’s still tiny, but is doing amazing, praise God!

Congrats Erica! Such a beautiful little boy. Like you and many others that have commented, I am the mamma of a preemie too. It is a scary time for any parent, but stay strong. Neither of my boys were born “early” and I am hoping this little girl stays put until her due date, but it’s these reminders that are necessary for us to remember what truly matters in life, how truly blessed we are…not grumbling because we didn’t win a hip2save giveaway.

Such a beautiful gift! My daughter was born 8 days before Christmas 32 yrs ago and the song “The Best Gift” by Barbara Streisand is the perfect song for any child born. I’ve now added my grand daughter to being “The best gift” in my life as well. Funny, I can’t imagine life without either of them!
