Strider balance bikes are the industry-leader when it comes to helping children as young as 18 months learn to ride on two wheels. The lightweight, pedal-less design allows children to straddle the bike with both feet on the ground and easily propel the bike by walking or running. This natural method puts the focus on the fundamentals of balancing, leaning, and steering without the distractions and  complications of pedals or training wheels.

These bikes are great! My almost five year old cruises around the driveway for hours on his. If you have a BMX track nearby, they probably have Strider races on them. Both my kids do BMX on their Striders.

  2. Ashley

Wow that’s cheap for a Strider. My daughter loved hers.

    Nice deal

Love these! Sierra Trading Post had a random sale this summer and they were $65. We picked up two for my twins and they love them! They started using them at 18 months and I cant wait for the cold weather to leave so they can get out on them again.

    No longer available?

Anyone live in the snow, you have to check out their ski attachment for their bikes – Amazing!!

So the child just pushes off with his feet and hangs his feet in the air???
Hmm, my 4 year old can’t pedal a regular bike. I think he might be terrified on this though.

It shouldn’t. He doesn’t have to do bmx tricks right out the box. He can go slow and walk the bike at his own pace and start letting go as soon as he is ready my 18m old and 4 year old love running as fast as they can then seeing who can go the furthest. So much fun and my 4 year old is almost ready for a real bike now. After him using training wheels properly for 2 1/2 years with no success I am glad to have found this we have only had ours a few months.

They don’t “hang their feet in the air” lol. They learn to push with their feet and get comfortable with balance. The more comfortable they get, the longer the strides of their feet become. You know they are ready for a two-wheeler when they can steer with ease, and yes, pick their feet up off the ground for several seconds. My 4 yr old learned how to ride a two wheeler over the summer with the help of using a balance bike first. He has never fallen off of his two wheeler. We put him on the first time, gave him a push, and he was off. It was amazing. I cannot say enough good things about these bikes.

One of the BEST inventions ever!!! Both my boys used this and they learned to ride a 12 inch bike without training wheels at 2.5 and 3 years old! They use their feet instead of pedals and learn balance and then adding in the pedals on the real bike is a breeze! Took my daughter days to get the hang of riding a bike w/o training wheels and my boys it was less than 5 minutes…not kidding!!!

we loooove our strider bike! My kids transitioned from this to a pedal bike between 3.5&4years old

Couldn’t you just take the pedals off a regular bike and then put them back on when they were ready to give it a go?

    • Renee

Just feel like that would save you from having to buy 2 bikes.

      • MiisNoel

I think the issue might be the height on a regular bike. It appears the Strider is a little lower to the ground so kids can easily use their feet to propel the bike. Versus a regular bike without pedals being higher off the ground to account for the pedals. IMO

        • Kim

From experience, it took hours to get the whole pedal part off and even then the bike was too tall for my 4 year old without the pedals. By at least a foot so it ended up being a waste of time.

          • Renee

Oh good to know! My niece is almost of age to start riding a bike, An my sis was telling me about these balance bikes. And I asked her the same thing about just taking off the pedals of her bike that her grandpa got her. But if it’s a huge deal to take it apart, I’ll tell her not to bother:)

            • Abby

We took pedals off a regular bike for our kids. It was a 5 minute operation and saved us from buying an extra bike. We just picked up a kid’s bike at Salvation Army.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Strider. This is totally worth the $125 we paid 2 years ago. We bought it for our son at 2 years, 10 months and he was riding a bike by 3 1/2 and a dirt bike before he was 4 and never used training wheels with either. Our daughter just starting using it at 2 years, 3 months and should be on a bike by 3. The main difference between these bikes and others is that they are super lightweight (maybe 5 lbs give or take) so they are easy for the child to maneuver. We let our kids ride them in the house so as soon as they wake up, they “ride” to breakfast!

  13. Kelli

Hands down THE best bike around for tots! My son used the Strider and within 3 months was riding a big boy bike ( no training wheels)!!!!

  14. amy

5 stars from me! Our 2yo kept up on family bike rides all summer on his Strider. He just turned 3 and rides it for 50 ft or so without his feet ever touching the ground and takes tight corners and u-turns! Its incredible! His balance is amazing and this totally takes the fear out of learning to ride. Wish we would have had it for our first 2 boys…took them much longer and was a much scarier process.

    • amy

He also slings it around fairly effortlessly– if he needs to lift it over a curb or if he’s parked in in the garage, he has no problem just picking it up and moving it.

  15. Leslie

Ugh. I shouldn’t have waited all day to order. No longer available. Hoping this deal comes up again before Spring time.

  16. CC

My daughter HATES this bike 🙁 We have tried her on it multiple times with a break in between. She gets excited to “ride” her bike, until she gets on it.

  17. Holly

Love this bike as my 12 yr old special needs daughter is finally learning to balance & steer at the same time. I can see she’ll be ready to incorporate pedals soon, all because of her Strider.

I found this exact same bike at a yard sale for $2! I babysit kids of all different ages, and even though it is pink, they all fight over riding it. This is a great bike. I highly recommend this bike over a bike with training wheels. This bike actually teaches them how to balance, hence the name balance bike.
