What other items are working for the $50 additional off for doing instore pick up? any link?

  2. Donna

Keep in mind you will need to buy the filter ( $45 ) and lots of gravel ( $20 ) and a heater ( $30 ) so that is at least $250 just to get it started not including fish. But that still is a nice price for the aquarium and stand. I have a 20 gallon tank and have hear that the larger tanks are easier to keep clean.

Donna, do you keep a lot of fish? Do you find that the heater is essential? We have a goldfish who is about two years old now (“rescued” from a carnival game) and he is still in his 10 gallon tank. He is healthy, but I have been looking for a good deal on a larger tank so that he can continue to grow and have more room to do his thing. His current set up has never included a heater and he has been fine. Do you mention the need for a heater because the 60 gallon is a large(ish) tank or do you think our fish who has had no heater all this time in the 10 gal would continue to do well without heater in the 60? Thanks in advance if you care to share advice! 🙂

Goldfish don’t require heaters, as they are not tropical fish.

      • Michelle

No, you do not need a heater for goldfish. They are a cold water fish. We used to keep them in our pond when we lived up north. The water temperature would get into the 30s. I think Donna is referring to tropical fish, which really should be kept in 78 degree water or warmer.

Great! I suspected he wouldn’t need a heater – he’s a tough little guy, but wanted to be sure. He is a member of the family and always better to be safe than sorry with pet health! Thanks for the replies!

We have a fantailed goldfish going on 10 years now, and have never used a heater in the tank. My daughter bought “Joy” (the fish is a girl) with her kindergarten graduation money…and my daughter is now in the 10th grade. “Joy” is literally a part of our family! We love our goldfish! 🙂

A heater is not required but will take care of moat infections that they might get (ick, etc).

They need just as much cleaning, if not a little more, than what a 20 gallon tank needs. But this is a good price for the tank, but I personally wouldn’t get it unless I had everything else already. You can buy full set ups on craigslist left and right for the same amount if not cheaper. My current tank (75 gallon) I found at a thrift store for 100 bucks!!! It had everything with it, stand filter, decor, heaters etc. That was a really lucky find. My last house however I had two of the fish I still have in this tank, Which I got from craigslist with the tank, and paid 100 bucks, and had 5 fish in. We moved in with my parents to sell that house, so my fish went into a much smaller tank until we could get a big tank again. But if you want to buy brand new tank, or aren’t using it for fish (I had thought about getting one to use as a brooder for my baby chicks, but decided I want to repurpose a display cabinet for more room, now im hunting for that.

We had a 55 gallon tank when I was a kid and we got an algae eater to live with our goldfish. He really helped to keep our tank clean. My mom gave him some cucumber and algae feeder disks to supplement his diet and he lived forever and grew so big! My mom had a siphon thing and replaced 1/3rd of the tank and wiped down the inside walls every 3 or 4 weeks. The filter and he algae eater took care of the rest.

Out of stock in my store and the next closest after that ;(

The need for a heater depends on the type of fish you have and the location for the tank. Goldfish are hearty and are unlikely to need a heater. We have cichlids in a 55gal set up. We use a heater as they require temps between 82 and 86 degrees. Keeping prices in mind….if you want to keep your tank cleaner longer consider two filters. We are running two filters that equate to filtration for a 150gal tank, the result is cleaner water, happier fish, and we only need to clean the tank once every two weeks which is not much considering we have nearly 20 fish.

Sandy…check craigs list. You can often find really nice deals on used aquariums.

I wanted this for our torts but the $50 when you do in store pick up isn’t there anymore… booo

  7. Crystal

Mine had the $50 off when I logged into PayPal it put it pack on after it directed me back to the site

    • MilasMom

Mine did the same. I guess I took too long to pull the trigger on this one! Had the -$50 before but now the price is back up in the cart.

    • Crystal

I did purchase the tank even though the $50 didn’t come off. My husband and son picked it up already. It’s 48 x 13. We bought it for my sons bearded dragon. So keep in mind that this can be used for other animals.

Wow what a amazing deal. I went to petsmart about 2 months ago and spent more than that on a 29 gallon kit.

  9. Glory

$50 off for pick up is now listed on their site again! It is 4:28 pm central time.

Did you do paypal checkout or regular card checkout? I keep trying and mine doesn’t take it off 🙁

I called because the promo is still showing on their website. If you hover your mouse over fish the promo pops down in a box. They still wouldn’t honor the deal. Stating that the promo has ended but hasn’t been removed from site. I believe it was mistake and when they started getting lots of orders they realized what was going on and fixed it. It seemed like he new exactly what I was calling about before I got it out of my mouth good. Did anyone actually get one for 124.99?

    • Glory

I paid 174.99 yesterday but called them and the guy knew all about it, said he had gotten a few phone calls regarding the same thing. He refunded the $50 plus tax. My paypal has already been credited $54. So yes, I got it for 124.99 plus tax.
