Starbucks Mobile Order & Pay: Order & Pay Ahead Via Mobile App and Bypass Checkout Line (Select States)
Starbucks fans! Starbucks has just released a pilot program Mobile Order & Pay that lets Starbucks customers in over 21 states order ahead of time and bypass the checkout line! Users can simply select their drink, their local store, and pay for their drink using the app (the app works through the existing Starbucks iPhone app and even features wait times at various locations!). Then customers can just stroll through the door and pick up their order—no line-waiting required! Awesome! 🙂 Go here for more details.
I have already tried it and dislike it. You cannot see the price of any items until you add it and go to checkout. Then if you accidentally hit the order/pay button then that’s it. Your order is placed. No “Are you sure your ready?” message or anything. I added a snores frap and cookie straw. I was curious to see how much the cookie straw was then accidentally hit order. So not only did I get charged for a cookie straw that I didn’t want, I also got a grande frap instead of a tall. It was just all a disaster. Some user error yes I admit that but still. They need to improve things already.
They should something like Panera. You can customize your items and know exactly what the item cost.
I guess they assume that your smarter than the app.
I think she raises valid points. It’s not about being smarter than the app. It’s about the app having more user friendly options.
Thank you – user friendly indeed. I’m glad you understand
Definitely more user error.
That all sounds mostly situational
I’ve been using mobile order for a few months now in Seattle – and LOVE IT! At first I wasn’t sure what the point was…seems just as easy to order in person, but they did a promo and offered free bonus stars for every mobile order placed. I took advantage of this promo and did it daily! Most days I just walked in past a line of 9-10 people and grabbed my drink and walked out! It was awesome not to have to wait!! I actually didn’t realize how much time I waste waiting to order.
I’m with you. Unfortunately, I do not have an iphone so will not be able to take advantage of this but I go to Starbucks often during work breaks or lunch and I’ve waited up to 30 minutes to order and get my drink. I’ve even complained because the lines are always so long and they only have one cashier. This would be amazing but I wonder how they would control from people picking up the wrong drinks and/or picking up drinks they did not really pay for.
For most stores I’ve been in, they hold the drinks behind the counter and you just ask for it. Although I’ve ordered using my boyfriends account several times and they don’t question giving me an order for “Steve” lol
Great for days when it’s busy and ya’ just don’t have time to wait!! Im in CA- a large state– it’s gotta be here! All the higher prices have to pay off eventually, right? 😜
wasnt itnstarbucks who had a data breach related to their mobile app last month
If I’m not mistaken, it was For those who had auto load connected to their account through a debit or credit card.
I’ve been waiting for this!!
I have no desire to let my coffee wait behind the counter getting cold while I’m driving there. I would rather wait at the window of the drive thru. Starbucks needs to go back to basic and work on customer service and speed without getting to technical. Simplify things.
Yes!!! I agree.
I think this is a great addition and will be especially helpful for those times when you order coffee for someone else who has very specific requests. This way it’s easy to let that person choose what they want without having to write it down or remember it or risk getting it wrong. It’s also a good way to see all of the different ways you can customize your drink. When Taco Bell added mobile ordering I learned about all sorts of new options and toppings I could add to my orders!
It’s also a great service for people who are a little shy about ordering at Starbucks because they’re overwhelmed by all of the options and choices (yes, I know several people who are afraid of “looking stupid” when they order at Starbucks, even though we have the nicest baristas at ours).
I’d love it if it weren’t just for iPhones. Would use it, but this does us no good.
Hate it! I ordered two of their breakfast sandwiches and went to a Starbucks location that was farther out than the one closest to work, but I assumed it was because they only listed locations with the item in stock. Wrong! I drove all the way there, during my lunch hour to find that they didn’t have my order! I had to wait in line for them to refund my money for an order they didn’t have. I will never use it again!
