Do you have a toddler who’s ready to start riding a bike? Well, check out this email I received from reader, Brooke:

Collin,
I’ve been wanting a Strider bike for my kids and have had a hard time swallowing the $89.99 cost that they usually are. The other day I was on 6pm.com and randomly thought to search Strider on the site. The pink Strider is on sale for only $41.99 shipped! Thought I’d share this deal with you and others. It is only the pink one so I ordered for my daughters birthday.

    Thanks 👍

  2. Jennifer

We love our Strider! I think that is why my youngest started riding a bike so early. He wore ours out!

  3. Kierra

Thank you so much!! I was having the same problem paying so much for one! But I just ordered for my daughters birthday! Awesome deal! She will be so excited!!

  4. ShoppyMcSaver

Yes! Husband and I have been going back and forth on getting one now or waiting for her birthday next year. But this couldn’t be passed up! Now it will be here for her birthday next month!!

  5. Darcie

What age is typical to start using this? 3?

    • L

My son started when he was 18 months. The seat goes down really low so they can start riding early on.

    • Johnnyrebb01

Don’t hesitate to start at 2! We started with out daughter around this time (very slow at first but quickly became a master). She was able to keep up on family bike rides of 1-2 miles at just over 2 1/2 years old (we bike a lot and it did take time). She transitioned to her big girl bike at under 3 1/2 to keep up with the rest of us! A MUST buy!!!

      • Darcie

Thanks for responding! I just ordered 2 for my twins. Reviews on amazon are so good. These are selling on Craigslist for $40-50 used.

    • Copi

I started my son at 15 months. He is now 23 months and really good. He has fantastic balance, glides far and absolutely loves his bike. Enjoy! Well worth the money and this is an amazing price 🙂

  6. Sheila

They sell used on Craigslist for this or more, HOT buy for sure! We have 2 Striders & love them, son has almost completely worn the tires out in 3yrs he’s ridden it. Also, Strider sells a ski attachment that is awesome for energetic little bike lovers in winter!!

  7. Priya

Does anyone know how this compares to the Radio Flyer Balance Bike? Thank you!

  8. Sherah

I found a similar type bike at a garage sale where they had taken off the pedals of a little bike and it is crazy how much my 6 & 7 year old kids love to ride it even though they can also ride a regular bike! Must be something about the vigorous swish swish of just simply pushing that they like, as opposed to the pedals.

  9. amber

These are great! Awesome find! We enjoy the balance bike we have. Anyone by chance have an American Girl coupon? Mine expired before I had the chance to use it and would love even a little discount on my daughters upcoming bday gift. Thanks!

I don’t understand the purpose of these things.

I learned to balance on a regular bike as a kid. So did my husband.

Our kids are 17, 6, and 4. They all know how to ride bikes just fine. They all have always only had regular bikes, albeit with training wheels.

This seems like a pointless waste of money. I do not know in person one single family who has used a balance bike. Kids will figure out how to balance on a regular bike, trust me on this lol.

    • Darcie

Of course kids don’t NEED one of these to learn. I think the point is that kids are able to start using these sooner than a bike with training wheels. They learn to balance before learning to pedal. Rather than spending money on a tricycle or a big wheel, parents can buy one of these. Then when the kid is ready to transition to a pedal bike (which is usually at an earlier age than kids who haven’t used a balance bike), there is a quick and easy transition, without training wheels.

    • Jennifer

I was skeptical too until my son went crazy with it. He went straight from it to a bike with no training wheels before he was 4 which I felt was pretty good. It may depend on your kid but if they catch on to it, they just learn to balance it between their legs and lift their feet which gives the sensation of being on a regular bike. My youngest still rides it along with a regular bike. I have even heard there are BMX type races for little kids (that may be taking it a little far…lol!). Anyway, for a good price like this, they are well worth the money.

      • Kristie

My sons (ages 3 and 5) do Strider races on the BMX track. It’s so cute.

        • Jennifer

My youngest would love that, but it might be too much for this nervous mom to handle…lol! He often looks like he is riding a dirt bike when he rides it in the driveway. A kid that gets into riding a Strider does look too cute on it!!

We bought our balance bike in Germany. Germans teach thier kids to ride bikes this way and think the same as you when I explained our method of training wheels (Pointless!). Using a balance bike is FAR superior training than the wibble wobble method we use with training wheels. My son learned to ride a two wheel bike at 3 years of age (after using the balance bike for a year) vs. my older son who didn’t learn until he was 7. Most of our American neighbors were shocked to see my little 3 year old whipping around on a 2 wheeled bike. Germans know what’s up!

    • kitty

my kids learned to ride a bike after using a scooter first. They learned to balance on that and the transition to a bike was easy. And a scooter is much cheaper.

    • Erin

Yup. Just take the pedals off a regular bike. Another example of companies making a fortune by offering a “solution” to a problem that doesn’t exist.

      • M

These don’t have chains and the tires are plastic so you don’t need to inflate them like you would on a regular bike. Removing pedals from a reg bike is a great idea tho!

    • Sandy

Kids are learning to ride bikes without training wheels sooner (age 3) & without all those bumps & bruises you & I had to endure. We used to live without Internet too no one NEEDS it but it sure has helped many of us live more convenient lives & find great deals! Sometimes better methods are discovered $ you can choose to try them or go on the old fashion way. By the way taking wheels off a traditional bike doesn’t make it balanced there are chains & chain covers & brakes that keep it off balance for a little one (2 year old) & make it dangerous because there is little foot space for pushing due to these things but I guess if you’re looking to try this technique & don’t want to get a new bike its better then nothing 🙂 let us know how it goes 🙂

      • Erin

A “balance” bike is no more balanced than a regular bike; it’s called a balance bike because the child learns to balance on two wheels while coasting on it (or on a bike without pedals). 🙂

  11. KC

I can’t get the bike in my cart. I guess the deal is over;(

  12. Kim

    Bummer. I missed it..great deal!

  13. Shel

I agree that you can skip this bike. My 3 year old went from training wheels to without simply by a little practice, and she was determined! I think if your child wants to be s “big girl”, they can learn just fine without a balance bike.

  14. Jaclyn

No thanks! My husband learned to ride a bike at two with no training wheels. At three he landed in the emergency room getting 27 stitches under his chin. He ramped a pile of dirt his dad had delivered to the house.

  15. Nicole Z.

I can’t seem to add it to my cart. Is it sold out?

  16. MFlaher

I can’t add it either. When you search for Strider it won’t pull up either.

  17. Charmel

Just remove the pedals from a regular bike. That is how we taught our kids to ride. A couple of hours with no pedals and then they transitioned. No training wheels ever. After weeks of working with our oldest my husband read an article that said remove the peddles. Two hours later she was riding. So now our whole neighborhood uses this method. Much faster and less tears!

    • Sarah

Thank you, why didn’t I think of that!?! 😛

    • Erin

Yup. These are a silly waste of money–unless you can find one for less than a bike. Even then I’m not sure it’s a good deal since you’d still end up buying a bike.

  18. GA

I’m a first time mom with a 14 month old so I’m considering a bike for a Christmas present (as it will be cheaper to buy in the off season). I don’t understand this balance bike thing at all. I’ve never heard of it until now. Does the child walk the bike or? Are they supposed to pick their feet up and I push them while they steer? I’m really confused as this was not how it was when I was a kid.

    • Me

As a mom of five I can tell you that bikes are not cheaper in the winter months. New bike for Christmas? Yep….classic Christmas gift. Think yard sale or consignment shop. Just my 2 cents.

      • GA

        That makes sense. Dang.

    • Jennifer

They pick their feet up and then kind of coast with the bike once they get the bike going. It takes a little confidence to get to that point, but ideally that is how it works best.

  19. tmo

The resell value is high on these too. I sold mine for $65.

I can’t seem to find blue on site
