I’m a prime member and I didn’t realize I got free music streaming!! Thanks for the post Collin. How do I go about accessing that?

    • SK

I would like to know that as well, can I stream music via my iPhone?

      • denise

Download the Amazon music app. It’s prime music . Make sure to download the music on a WiFi connection or you can just stream from the app.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Abby!

  2. Wdrwoman

Can I add Amazon prime music is amazing!!! So many albums in it that you can stream for free!! They make a playlist as well that shuffles. Albums from you childhood to today’s music. I love it!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh awesome! Thanks for your feedback 🙂

  4. Stephanie

I also never knew about streaming music! However, I do use my prime to watch a lot of movies and tv shows!

    • sara

How do you watch movies and tv shows? Is it like youtube? How does it work? Is it just american movies or any other languages also.

      • A.

        It’s like Netflix

      • Tracy

You can look at Prime Video under Amazon Video to see which movies and shows stream for no additional cost if you have Amazon Prime.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet!

  5. sara

I heard people use tv from amazon prime? What is that called? What channels come on that?

    • Ashley57

It’s like Netflix – there are a bunch of movies and TV shows to pick from

    • ert

There isn’t a channel. You can watch it on the internet, through the app or via the fire stick. It’s called Amazon Instant Video

    • Brittany

Download the Amazon Music app and go from there! You get to pick and choose exactly what you want to listen to, unlike Pandora. I love it!!!

    • Brittany

The Prime app is also available on Xbox for streaming shows and movies. We are planning on getting rid of Directv next month, after our contract is up-thanks to them and Netflix!

  6. Ger

Also, when you are an Amazon prime member, you can add several family members to your account for free!

    • Kristine

Hmm I will have to look into that 😀 I had no idea we could do that lol

    • Bethany

I think the rules on this changed? I think you can only add one family member now. I know with Amazon prime student I can’t add anyone, so I just let them use my account to buy stuff so they get the free shipping.

  7. Kristine

Thanks Collin! I didn’t know about the Amazon cloud drive. I just downloaded the app 😀

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yay! You’re welcome Kristine. Glad you could grab it!

  8. ashlynn.

So amazon is doing away with free 2 day shipping. Amazon prime members will still get free shipping not based on where the products are shipping from/to will determine the ship time.

    • Linda

Huh really? There getting rid of 2 day shipping??

    • Kat

That’s not true, they have long term contracts with the USPS for 1 day and 2 day shipping. If you live in more rural areas they have/will always take a little over 2 days, depending on your location. My dad has worked for the post office for over 40 years, and Amazon prime is their bread and butter right now. Guaranteeing the 2 day shipping is a big part of their agreement.

      • Liz

Also in case ur parcel takes more than 2 days, contact CS..they will extend ur membership by a month…i usually pay only 1 time for 2 years Amazon prime…bcause even though i dont live in a rural area my delivery is often delayed.

    • Reanna M

Ship by region is what you’re referring to and it was a very limited test.

  9. Jenn

I also really like the music streaming and prime tv shows. I highly recommend watching the prime series Catastrophe, it’s laugh out loud funny! Just wait until the kids are in bed…

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Thanks for the suggestion Jenn!

  10. Greg (@moneysavingquest.com)

    Definitely worth the price

I don’t have prime, but I live right outside DC and usually get my stuff in 3-5 days with super saver shipping. In late September I ordered some stuff for my girl’s birthday and 8 days later nothing had even shipped yet. I ended up canceling the order and buying at Target. It felt like they were punishing me for not having prime. I don’t think that’s right.

    • Heather

Agreed Melissa. I had Prime for a few years, but when it went to $99/year, I dropped it. Not that $20/year is a big difference, but it is the principle of the thing. We can definitely afford the $99, but again, I find that I don’t use it much as I used to. But, when I do, they definitely make you wait for the shipping (when using the free option)…

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Darn. Sorry to hear that Melissa. That does sound frustrating.

    • Tracy

The reason we ended up getting Prime many, many years ago was because I wanted the fast shipping. Before Prime I could easily wait for weeks for a book to come directly from Amazon and I live in a major metro area. That experience sounds like normal Amazon without the guarantees of Prime. It is one of the reasons we stick with Prime.

    • Holly Dean

I couldn’t survive without Amazon Prime. I order items on a daily basis and have saved hundreds (maybe thousands?) on shipping. I am an Amazon reviewer so when I am offered free products to try and review, that free 2 day prime shipping comes in handy! That plus the many free credits for choosing no-rush which I always do when I can so free movies that aren’t normally free!

  14. Les

“For just $99 per year, Amazon Prime members score all these freebies:”

That is not what freebie means . . .

It’s quite a significant cost for what boils down to getting things a bit faster and some movie streaming. It’s definitely not worth it to me. Especially since most things are cheaper locally than on Amazon.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oops! I completely get what you’re saying. I’ll change the wording.

    • Katie

Netflix would cost you more than Prime within the year! I save over $99 alone just in shipping bc I live in the middle of nowhere. The closest store is 20 miles away. So worth it for me!

      • tam childers

Agreed for us country folk its a blessing.

      • Nel

        Ditto!

    • Emily

I pay $12 a month for Netflix and all that is, is movie streaming…also idk where you live, but almost everything is cheaper on amazon near me on the east coast.

  15. tracy

I’ve had prime a year and love it but how does renewal work? Does it do it automatically?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, it should be set to auto renew. You should be able to view that in your account. There is also an option to turn off auto renewal. Hope that helps!

  16. Colleen

I’ve had prime for years and love it – it’s a must have for our family. I use prime music every day at work and we have the firestick for our playroom that does not have a cable hookup. The firestick is so great we are going to get one for our bedroom also. Love love love my Prime!!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks so much for the great feedback Colleen. Glad to hear how much you like it!

  17. Tammy

You also get to borrow a book every month for free. 🙂

  18. CJ

I enjoyed prime when I lived in a metro area because of the 2 (or even 1) day shipping with no minimum order. Much easier than dragging 3 kids out to the store to find a family birthday gift or whatever. Three months ago we moved to a very rural area (nearest major store is 30 miles away) so it became even more valuable to me. We also decided to try going without cable when we moved so I got a fire stick when they did the summer black Friday thing and we’ve been very happy with it. I do a lot of kindle reading so the free books & lending library are great too.

I will say for streaming since we’re new to it there is a lot of content we haven’t seen. If you’ve been streaming with them for a long time & they don’t add new stuff often that might get old. There are already a lot of things I wish were available for free that aren’t and the rental prices are high to me. Things I get at redbox (thank goodness we do have one redbox in my tiny town!) are $5 to rent on amazon and older movies that would be two for $1 at a video store are $3 to rent. I get that you’re paying for the convenience of not leaving the house but it still seems high to me (particularly for older stuff) when you’re already paying a membership fee. A lot of the cartoons my kids used to watch on cable (Blaze, Rescue Bots, etc) are $2 PER EPISODE but there are some like Dora/Diego and Umizoomi that have a lot of free episodes.

That complaint aside a prime membership is still worth it to me right now. I share my shipping benefits with my mom just because I’m an awesome daughter (ha!) but in theory you could have someone contribute towards your membership to offset your cost in exchange for them getting free shipping.

If it’s easy for you to run out to Target & other major retailers I can see where it may not be as appealing.

  19. Shannon

My free trial ends on 11/10 and I’m planning on taking advantage of the student 6 months free.
It says if i was referred by someone they get 5 and i think i do to. I saw it awhile back so i don’t remember exactly.
Anyway if it’s true i would be happy to use a hip2saver as a referral.

  20. shannon22

Love amazon prime !!! My favorite subscription! !

  21. Michelle W

If you have an .edu email address, you can sign up for a full year of Amazon prime for $49. Great for college students! The free version of amazon student does not have all the benefits, but the paid version does.

    • Shannon

My email is an edu account. 😊

  22. cheryl

Dont forget you can also share your prime with another person and share the cost…or not!

    • Shannon

      That’s a great idea. Thank you. 😊

    • Mel

I think that’s for the free shipping only or at least that’s how it used to be.

  23. Anonymous

Just wondering if you can do the free month if you have had Amazon Mom before. Years ago, they offered a 3 month, I think, free Amazon Mom membership and every time you bought something baby related, you got an extra month added on. I have never had an Amazon Prime membership or trial though.

  24. Mel

Last year I signed up for the free 30 day trial to take advantage of the shipping for Christmas presents. I loved it so much I signed up for the year even though I thought $99 was a little steep. With that being said I cannot imagine not having it now!!!

When I looked at the cost per month it worked out to be less than Netflix so for the streaming alone it’s worth it to us!! Add in the music, the cloud and the books plus the shipping….awesome!!!

  25. Maria

Can anyone please please PLEASE help me to find a way to get cheaper Internet so I can get rid of my cable and just watch tv on prime?!?

  26. Lisa

I have used prime for years and years. I use everything they offer to get the most out of my membership. I just finished uploading ALL of our photos ( there were a lot of them) to their cloud drive for free and it gives me such peace of mind. It was fairly simple too.

  27. queensafira

I love Amazon Prime. My renewal comes up in December. I just wish they treated their warehouse workers better 🙁

Make sure you are ready for the full advantages of prime and use them! I have gotten thousands of dollars worth of products for free or pennies on the dollar so I think it’s safe to say I am a Primer for life! Basically $9 a month gets me 20-30 packages speed delivered to my door, streaming and a killer profile that makes me stand out to companies who need their products reviewed!

  30. Christine

I love Prime! Also, if you have an Amazon Store Credit Card AND Amazon Prime, you can get 5% cash back on all your Amazon purchases!

  31. pam

What books are free with prime? Is it just the few book of the month books?
