Welcome to the New Hip2Save Site…
So let me start off by saying that I know change is hard. Very hard. I haven’t changed the Hip2Save site since 2009. Yes, 2009, when I moved from Blogger to WordPress. That is a crazy long time to not update or change a website.
So it’s time. Grab your coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, and check out the new site…
I sure hope you like the new site as much as I do! I understand that it may take a bit to get comfortable with the new look so please take some time to get familiar with the site and feel free to leave a comment below with any feedback you have. We hope that you find the site to be more user-friendly, easier to navigate, totally responsive on all of your devices, and that it makes you feel excited to part of this amazing Hip2Save Community!
Here are just a few of the new features:
TWO Ways to View the Site – Yes, we now have TWO different options to view posts on the site! We have the view that you all are familiar with (just like on the old site) – you can just scroll down and continue scrolling to see all of the current deals that have been posted. OR, switch to the grid-view and view 12 deals all at once in small blocks (this is a great option if you’re in a time crunch and want to quickly see the latest deals). You’ll see the image of the deal on these blocks as well as the deal description. If interested in a deal, just click on the block to view the full post. And the best part about both views is that you can easily toggle between the two options!
Navigation Menu – Be sure to check out our new Navigation Menu at the top of the site! This is where you’ll find most everything you’re looking for. Search our online deals (you can even search by category like photo deals, toy deals, and more), search store deals, check out our latest Restaurant deals, and latest freebies and coupons. Plus, easily access free printables available in the “Tips” section, and don’t forget to browse the yummy recipes and frugal DIY ideas.
Our Navigation Menu Follows You – Yes, the navigation menu will now follow you down the site as you browse all the deals so you will no longer have to scroll back up when you decide that you’d like to check out a different section of the site.
Easily View Store Deals – You now can easily view the weekly store match-ups and store guides for each of the popular stores on Hip2Save including Target, Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid. Just click on the store name in the navigation menu, and you will be taken to the current deals for that store. In addition, you’ll see buttons at the top of each page that link to the current store match-ups and the store guide which contains the store’s coupon policy and more information regarding how to shop at each specific store.
HIP List – Although this is not a new feature, I just wanted to mention it as you can now easily toggle between the HIP list, the grid-view, and the normal full-deal site view. If you’re new or not familiar with the HIP list, it’s a nice feature that allows you to save posts to check out at a later time. Have you ever had moments when you’re either out of time or out of printer ink, or both, and you really want to keep track of a “HIP” deal and/or print a valuable coupon in the next day or two? This is where the HIP list comes into play! 🙂
I hate change, but I love the grid view! Love it! Easy to see multiple deals quickly. I used to spend too much time searching for deals I had seen but couldn’t find them quickly. Maybe I don’t hate change. 🙂
Oh yay! Glad to hear that! Thanks for the feedback.
The font is too small in the comments section. It is much harder to read. Just some constructive criticism.
If you’re on a computer, you can go to your browser’s settings and ‘zoom in’ on the page. I do that on a lot of sites and the browser remembers. Hope that helps!
Yes, I agree! Zooming in doesn’t work well as it cuts things off and makes it harder to navigate. Going up 1 font size would help!
Can you all email me with a screenshot of the font size you’re seeing and also let me know what type of device you’re on ( email to collin@hip2save.com)? I am not seeing tiny font at all but I know each user may have a different experience depending on what type of device they’re on. Thanks much for the help!
I totally agree! I need to be able to read the comments of my fellow Hip2Savers! I need bigger and bolder for my 38 year old eyes. :0)
Press CTL and the + sign.
My first thought was, what site did I end up on? Then I realized it was a new Hip2Save layout. It will take a little getting used to (like anything new), but my first impression is that I like it. Will let you know if I run into any problems.
Thanks, Em! Feel free to email me if you notice any issues.
Change is hard to get use to. I’m finding that the softer blue colors are very hard to read. I like the older Black lettering on the words and titles as they are way easier to read and you could tell when the next deal started. It’s harder now to see where the next deal starts with the softer blues and soft blue colored line between the deals. I like the grid and hiplist tabs, but they are also hard to read. Thanks for all you do and I’m sure whatever you decide to do, we will always keep coming back to your site! You are the best and are always looking out for the greater good of your audience!
I am in agreement with Jen. I am finding it difficult to see where the end of one post is and the other begins. Though like she commented, it won’t stop me from visiting your site, it is just not as comfortable on the eyes.
Thank you both for the honest feedback and constructive criticism. I really appreciate and I’m compiling all of the feedback now to discuss with the team.
I don’t usually like change, but I love your new look, Collin!!! It’s fresh and HIP! I used to design websites so I feel like I have an eye for these things. It’s really fabulous!
Awww… thanks! So glad to hear that! 🙂
Love it! I happened to see your video yesterday. Laughed, cried and laughed some more. Wanted to thank you for sharing. Be happy & enjoy your well earned success. Keep those deals coming!
Thank you! That means a lot.
Ok so my eyes have to adjust and I’m not sure they will 🙁 . It’s SO white. I can’t easily tell when one deal ends and the new deal starts. Definitely will take time to get used to.
Thanks for the feedback, Karen. I am passing along to my team.
LOVE IT! The font is awesome! and love the grid view! didn’t know about the hip list!
you should do a post or video of “Different ways to navigate Collin’s site!” or “Best features of your site”. You’re my fav blogger!!! and I’ve been with you for probably 5 years, every single day!!! and didn’t know about the hip list! I bet I don’t know about some other features of your site 🙂
Hi Isabelle,
So glad to hear you love the site! 🙂 And I think doing a video is a great idea, stay tuned!
Mine still shows the old layout? I’m so confused. It’s that way on my phone and kindle. Anyone else have this issue?
How weird. You may have to close out of your browser completely and then re-open.
Colin, I truly love the new layout for your site and I really love the Grid View. Thank you so much for sharing savings, tips, etc through your blog, it has been a great help to me and my daughter.
Awww… so glad to hear that! Thanks for the comment! 🙂
The navigation bar at the top takes up 1/4 of my screen the whole time. It makes it too hard to read the deals. Very annoying!
Can you all email me with a screenshot of the navigation bar you’re seeing and also let me know what type of device you’re on and browser you’re in ( email to collin@hip2save.com)? I’d love to try and help fix the issue you’re having. Thanks!
Love it!
Thanks, Cheryl!
I like the new site. I just wanted to give you a heads up that when I scroll through your site on chrome on my iPhone it keeps freezing up on me. I have to exit chrome and go back in to the site to unfreeze it. Thanks!
Oh how frustrating. I will pass along to my team.
First let me say I love the new layouts, the option for the grid, the links on the left to see how many comments, and especially the helpful links like more photo deals, more in-store deals etc. The fonts sizes and colors are easily readable.
A couple of items that I think would be helpful, a stronger separation bar/line between deals in the classic view would help identify where a post ends and a new one starts. I also think the ad bar on the right is a little too large or if there could be a way to collapse it. Also it would be good if you could add a note or a hover note over the arrow at the bottom right that the arrow will take you to the top. I scrolled for quite a while before noticing the arrow there.
Thanks for all you do!!
Thanks, Kelly! I appreciate the helpful feedback! We are definitely working on making the division between posts in the classic view more apparent. Also, I will be passing along the other info to the team. Thanks much!
I am on mozilla firefox and for whatever reason it is taking way longer for things to load and I am also having issues with the screen freezing for awhile and then I get an error and have to reload — I never had that issue before. I am guessing it is because of all of the ads on the sidebar maybe – don’t know. I am very thankful the video ads on the side don’t just automatically start playing — I find that extremely annoying when I am on a site and that happens — so thankful yours did not.
I am also having a little harder time telling when one deal ends and a new one begins.
Please do not take everything I say as a negative – I know it sounds like it — just wanted you to know how it is doing on my computer verses your old page.
Thanks for all you do
Hi Tammy!
I really appreciate the comment and your honesty, I just told another reader that we are definitely working on making the division between posts in the classic view more apparent. Also, hopefully the site load time will get faster for ya – it may just be due to all of the changes we’re still making. Thanks for your patience!
I love it! The old colors were a little harsh. eye catching but harsh. I think the new layout is very nice and very professional and up to date looking!
Awww… thanks! Your comment brightened my day! 🙂
LOVE the new grid view! I’m no a fan of change at all (ask my DH! lol), but I think your change will be great once I get used to it. Love H2S so very much – thank you!
You are so welcome! Thanks much for the kind words! 🙂
I must say I was skeptical about a new website. I am one of the slow ones on a computer and resistant to change. BUT, I love it! It is easy to use. I really like the grid format. And I love, love, love the Hip List! I just found it. Thank you, Collin. I really do appreciate Hip2Save, all the great deals, and your upbeat attitude. Thank you for all the money you have helped our family save over the years and in turn all the people who have shared as we have been able to share with others. THANK YOU!
You’re a sweetheart! <3 Thank you so much for the kind words. I so appreciate YOU as a reader!
For me is the font, its way too small to rread and also its hard to tell when one post ends and the other starts, it would be nice if the grid was in bold…. thanks for all you do 🙂
Hi Silvia,
We are actually working on making both of these changes! 🙂 Yay! We will be making the posts more apparent so you can tell when one ends and one begins AND we will be making the titles on Grid View darker – stay tuned!
Hi Collin! I’m another long-time regular of your site–leaving you on an open tab all day long to quickly check in! I’ve popped in several times since the change was made and I’m getting more and more used to it. I love the grid option! And the organization on top is more streamlined. My main difficulty is that is runs so much slower than your old site did. I closed out all tabs and rebooted my laptop twice, but it’s still pretty poky. All in all, I love it! And appreciate you and all your team does to help me save each day. I’m almost done Christmas shopping, thanks to you! <3
Hey there!
Thanks so much for the feedback… especially the info regarding the site slowness. My team and I are looking into this further as I definitely want to make sure that the load time is fast. Thanks again!
love it. just a little getting used to
Yes, change is hard! Totally understand… let me know if you have any issues. Thanks much!
Love the grid view! Great feature.
Awesome! So glad you like it!
I LOVE the grid view!!!!
😀
I love the grid view!!
Yay!
Hi Collin! I’ve been a follower even since you were on Blogger! Lol. So I’ve seen the changes! In my honest and humble opinion, the old one is my favorite (WordPress?). It was very easy to navigate and view comments and look up store-specific deals especially if I am at the store trying to make sure I did not miss anything! 🙂 I love the colors and icons on this new site but I think there are too many ads that it looks like an ad page instead of a blog. I am on my Iphone right now and trying on the Grid View but when I scroll down to the comments, I have to go past other posts and at the bottom of the page are more posts and ads. Less is more, as they say. But all the ads and links are too overwhelming and I don’t know anymore where the post starts and ends. Hope you don’t mind my feedback. Thank you for all you and the whole team do! Love you guys! 😎🤗
Hi Jem,
Thanks for the feedback. Sorry to hear about the ads, but we honestly have the exact same amount of ads that we had on other site and the ads are also in the same spot and are the same size as they were on the old site. Can you send me a screenshot of what you’re seeing and let me know what device you’re on (collin@hip2save.com)? I’d love to see if this is an issue we can fix. Thanks so much!
How do I see the grid view??
Towards the top (right above the first post), you should be able to toggle between the “Classic View” and the “Grid View” – please let me know if you’re having issues doing this. Thanks!
I love the new site but it keeps crashing my laptop. I can see the first two pages and then it loses connection every time. I will be soooo sad if I can’t keep using this site. You and your team have helped me save so much in the last 3 years. I won’t know what to do if I can’t check this site 3 or 4 times a day. Trying to explore the page and for some reason it just crashes ugh!
So sorry to hear that! 🙁 Can you email me with some info so I can pass along to the team like what device you’re on and what browser you’re in? (collin@hip2save.com) Thanks so much!
Hi Collin! I have been following you for years…and this is just one more awesome thing you have done! Be Proud of yourself!!! I do have a couple comments…right now I am typing my comment and getting Really Dizzy from the pattern on the right side of the screen. I love the pattern, but not when typing! One more thing at the very bottom (…only because I am an OCD designer…), it would look far more professional if you were to return space before “By using this site, you are agreeing….” so that all of that sentence goes on the second line. It will look cleaner being full sentences on each line, if that makes sense. It’s the little things 😉 Hope that helps! GREAT JOB!!!
Thank you so much for the feedback! I am passing along to the team – much appreciated! 🙂
On my facebook page, the hip 2 save logo in the corner of posts, that looks like a coin, is too white and bland. So when I am scrolling through facebook I found myself skipping over the posts thinking it was just another ad that they throw in there. It is harder to stand out/notice. Just changing the color would be very helpful.
Totally understand. We actually just darkened the color. Let me know if it looks better. Thanks!
I can’t seem to locate where I can select a certain day’s date for deals that where posted on just that specific day. You used to have a drop down with I think the last two weeks of deals by day specific. Where is that feature? I like to use that to catch up instead of scrolling though days of posts if I missed reading a day. Otherwise I like it!
Hi SP,
That is called the Archive – we are working on adding it back soon. Should be in the Navigation menu in the next few days. Thanks for your patience as we work out the site issues.
LOVE the change. LOVE the grid!!! This site ROCKS!!! Thank you, Colin and all of you behind the scenes peeps!
You are so welcome! Glad to hear you love the site! 🙂
I Love the new grid view!! But where is the “HOME” button?? How do I get back to the beginning easily??
HOME is just the Hip2Save logo 🙂
OH…hahaha!!! THANK YOU!!!
LOVE IT!!! THANK YOU for your wonderful site and all the hard work you put into it to save ME money!!!!
You are SO welcome!
On Grid view, the deals that say (Today Only) don’t have the date on them. It would be very helpful if the grid view shows the date you posted the deal. Love your site!!
Thanks much for the helpful suggestion. This time stamp will be added soon. 🙂
Love, love, love the new grid view! I became a loyal hip2saver when my other favorite couponing site made some major changes to their website a few years ago. On that site, there was not only a major change in the look but also a major shift in trying to sell us stuff vs. trying to help people find good deals. As long as you keep your focus on helping us save money, I will keep coming back!
That always has been and always will be my focus. Thanks for sticking with me! 🙂
The site looks nice. Will take a few days to get used to the new layout. Change is always hard!
I think the comments color is too light though.
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it and will pass along to the team.
It’s taking my eyes a little time to adjust but I really like the new look. It’s simple but “catchy”!! Thanks for all the hard work – You and your team!! 🙂
You’re welcome! Thanks for the comment!
I would like to see dates on the grid site without having to click on one so I know how old they are. I do like the grid it would be nice to know how many comments there are also without clicking on each item 🙂
We just added the dates and times 🙂 and are working on adding comment count. Thanks for the helpful feedback.
Love love love the grid view!! Have to get used to the change but great feature!! Nice job on the redesign!
Glad to hear you love the grid view. Thanks for the comment.
Thumbs up for the new Hip2Save website! The colors look nice, it’s less cluttered and it’s easier to find exactly what I need when I want to find a specific store or coupon or other.
Yay! So glad to hear that! Thanks for the feedback! 🙂
I really like the look & feel of your new website, but the grid view does not flow as well on my mobile phone. The grid view is nice, but I really liked just seeing the titles of the deals on my mobile phone. It seems to take longer to load the deals now since there are pictures and ads. Although I’m a long time follower of your blog, I will just deal with it but I would hate for someone new to not get the benefits of your site due to impatience. Keep up the awesome work! You are doing great :).
Hi Jennifer!
Thank you so much for the helpful feedback. We have that on our long list of things to do and will definitely be changing up the mobile theme so that it runs faster and is easier to navigate. Stay tuned! AND thanks much for your patience as we get these changes made.
Is there a way to have the comments open in a separate window ? That way when I click on them I won’t loose my place of where I was scrolling through. Otherwise when I click the back button I have to start all the way over on the deals and work my way down to where I was. Thanks =) I love the new site. Change is never great but this is a good one. Love the updates !
Right click on the comments circle and open a new tap (or window) That’s what I always do, even before the site changed yesterday!
new tab (not tap LOL)
Thanks for the feedback on the comments. I will pass along to the team.
not a fan. looks messy and chaotic. both the share strip on the left and the ad strip on the right are way too big.
The ads are the same size and are in the same spots they were on the old site. If you can, please send me a screenshot of what you’re seeing and what browser and device you’re using. I would love to be able to help if there is an issue we can resolve. Thanks!
My my my..I can’t believe I have been with you this long..before the switch..and the mess that was….you were even off line for a few days. I suppose that is loyalty. 😎
Over 7 years.and I have yet to win a thing. Haha🙊
WOW! Thank YOU for being such a loyal follower!! 🙂 When you get a chance, please shoot me an email (collin@hip2save.com)
Collin!! Please set me straight is there is something I’m missing here, but HMMM..and Please bear with me as I explain my findings. I felt a bit “lost” last night and decided to give it a day to check the regular site, mobile site and app to compare my experiences and find the best way to use each for my ease and needs. I’ve found the regular site easy to navigate and search today, but I have to admit I REALLY miss the old mobile view and the functionality. I preferred the old mobile site over all others for it’s simplicity with just the listings and TAGS! I was able to click any tag in the listings to see all posts from that category. The new view is A LOT more scrolling and no tags? Yes, on the Grid view too. I do like it, just more work. But without the tags, I’m also having a tough time searching for specific catergories, ie: Photo Deals, on the mobile site. Without having the tags to click and automatically scroll through, I tried a manual search for “Photo Deals” and get back results that include every post that has the words Photo AND DEALS in the body of the posts-which is basically everything.
I then search for “Shutterfly” and get results that include basically every(?) post title, but in the body it has Shutterfly even though it is not in that post! Reading the results now I see “Delta Playard Only $45.95 Shipped”…the url for that post then below “15 hours ago…Bing Rewards Members: Possible FREE Photo Ornament From Shutterfly – View this Deal”…with nothing to click on. Then “Walmart: 2015 Black Friday Deals”, the url for that post, then “3 hours ago… Next Shutterfly: 101 FREE Photo Prints (Just Pay Shipping. Top. Jill’s Steals and Deals – TODAY Money-What’s Better, Money or a nice boss?” Then the next post “Never- Bored Kid Activity Books ONLY $7.99 Shipped” -the url for that post, then “2 hours ago… Shutterfly: 100 FREE Photo Prints”, with nothing clickable there. Then, “Amazon: Kent Girls Bike only $56.49 Shipped”, below the title is the url for that post…then below that “16 hours ago…Bing Rewards Members: Possible FREE Photo Ornament From Shutterfly – View this Deal”…with nothing to click on anyway AND with no association to any clickable portions of the results.
Is this because there are no tags? I see them on bottom most left of each post on the regular site below the “Hip List” and “Print” areas, but they are missing altogether on my phone. I wonder if that’s the hiccup in my search results? On the app I can go to Online Bargains, but then have to scroll through ALL of them without the ability to search for something specific. I still LOVE you, but am wondering if the search I explained above is a bug that can be looked into as it seems there is a disconnect in the retrieval of data somewhere? Hope this made some sort of sense! LOVE ALL YOU DO & HOPE EVERYONE THERE IS PROUD OF THE NEW SITE! 🙂
Hi Heidi,
Your comment is so helpful. Thank you for sharing the issues you’re having and the details on the search functionality and tags. I am definitely passing along all you’ve mentioned to my team. They are hard at work fixing search issues, the mobile site, the mobile navigation, and much more. Please give us a few days to really get some of these issues resolved. Thanks so much for your patience as we work through this.
Sorry, me AGAIN! Just my opinion, but I found it very helpful to have numbered comments before. When I was trying to locate a specific comment for reference I had a target point. Not a make or break, but a lot of scrolling with the new site overall. But you’re not scaring me away! 😉 THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND RESPONSE!
Yes, we are working to get the comment count back. 🙂
LOVE the grid view! Totally efficient time saver!
Yay! Glad to hear it!
I really like the grid view but it doesn’t seem to show any comment if it’s recent? for example the monster high circus deal at target, I’m not seeing a little “4” for the 4 comments it has now?
Hi Sharon,
This is an issue we are working on… hopefully will be fixed soon! Thanks for your patience.
Love it!!!
😀
Love the new layout…Looks GREAT !!
Thank you!
Personally I love the new site, especially the grid view. I find it much easier to scroll through and click on the deals I want to find out more information on. I really like the tags in the corners that say “today only” or “expired”.
Is it is possible to put in some type of notification on the grid view about the date you posted the deal. Either like a little tag in the bottom corner with the date or some type of separation from the last post of the day to the first post the next morning. I realize that the newest posts are on the top but I just find it helpful to know when the deal was actually posted when I’m scrolling through.
Overall I think that it’s cleaner and easier to maneuver through on the desktop site. I have not tried the mobile site yet.
Thanks, really love the site and the work you put into this.
Sara
Hi Sara,
Thank you so much for the helpful feedback! You should see that the date and time stamp are now there! 🙂
