I had a nightmare of a time with Best Buy when I bought mine a month ago and ended up having to drive 2 hours across my city to pick up my phone. Make sure if you buy it someone will be home to sign for it–they shipped mine without sending a shipping confirmation and it arrived in one day, instead of the 10 days it said when I made the purchase, and it wound up being a whole thing. Just a word of caution.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Darn. Thanks for the heads up Catie.

  2. Andrea

Has any one seen phone deals for t mobile or without a contract?

    • Jess

I’m desperately seeking an iPhone for tmobile too. That’s the only thing my son wants as bday gift and Christmas gift but I just can’t find a good deal.

      • Anthony

Check on eBay. I got my sister one for a good price a while back. For less than 420 for the iPhone 6

  3. Lisa

Hi does anyone know….if we already have a verizon plan with 2 lines (phones), can we get purchase this phone and add it as a line to our existing plan?

    • Jeanette

I would think so. You might have to go into the store.

      • Jeanette

Or call them to help you set it up.

    • Suzy

If you do find out please let me know, I was wondering the same thing.

    • Lisa

Lisa, I believe, it all depends on the plan you are on. I am on the “More Everything Plan” and I can have up to 10 devices on my plan (who needs that many!). But I believe, yes, as long as you add a new line.

  4. Erin

I wish they did this for at&t.

  5. Yummi

I thought all the companies want you to lease to buy the phone now. What is the cheapest data plan for Verizon?

    • Heather C

I’m wondering the same thing, Yummi!

  6. Erin

I checked into the deal and my phone isn’t available to upgrade until March but other lines on my account are eligible. I do have the option of taking their eligibility but if I do it locks them into another two-year contract and then they lose their eligibility. My family members on my phone plan will enjoy this deal thank you for sharing!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Erin!

  7. Jessp1997

Awesome!! I was eligible for an upgrade but didn’t want to pay! Got it for 1.09!!! Thanks!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Yay! You are so welcome!

  8. Elissa

Is this online only? Or can I go in store so I can trade in my old phone and get the gift card too?

  9. Ang

Wooo! I was totally stressing this morning looking into all the options for upgrading our Verizon package! (we had old school iphones 4!!) This came at the perfect time!!! Two iphone 6S headed our way, and I got the pretty rose gold!!!

    • Julie

Do you call verizon or best buy?? I have an old 4s I need to upgrade

      • Ang

Verizon doesn’t offer this deal directly—the iphone 6 S is way more $$$. I did it thru best buy via verizon–they will ask for your verizon number and it will show you are eligible for upgrade.

    • Lisa

We’re same, old 4s’s to upgrade..but no matter what I do I can’t get logged in on the best buy page where it tries to connect you to the verizon account…i can log onto the verizon wireless account going thru verizon, so i’m sure i have right password but it just will not connnect me…any ideas? i’m using the primary phone # and account holder info etc.

      • Laura

It’s looking for your 4 digit pin. I did the same thing. Put in my password and got rejected.

        • Heather

I for the life of me don’t know what 4 digit code they would want?! Is it something I had to pick out way back when I registered for an account?

          • Tracy

Tried my 4 digit code and still can’t get through. Ugh!!

  10. Louise

Now I’m debating do the trade in or hold on to my phone in case my phone breaks and I’m not up for an upgrade and end up paying hundreds out of pocket.

  11. marlen

how do I know if I qualify if its new service? Dont they check credit history ? or If i buy it i automatically qualify for service?

  12. Samantha

I’m confused. We are through Verizon but don’t have a contract. I thought they did away with contracts? Our contract ended a few months ago and they told me it’s month by month now. But if I upgrade, I have to pay like $600 for a new phone. So I can get one of these for $1 under my current plan?

    • Becky

I chatted with Verizon. If your contract is over, your line access fee drops from $40 to $20. If you go back under contract, the line access fee goes back up to $40. Over the course of two years, that’s $480 that you are paying. Almost like paying full price for the phone. Just something to keep in mind if your contract is expired or expiring. 😉

      • Angel

Becky, do you mean if we get this $1 deal? Then our bill will go up that amount and it would be like paying full price for the phone? Doesn’t sound like a very good deal…

        • Becky

If you are not under contract right now, and are paying a $20 line access fee for your phone, then yes, it would go up to the $40 line access fee. Plus the Best Buy page shows a $35 upgrade fee. So that would be $515 over the course of 2 years. Not quite the price of a new phone, but close to it! I would check to see what your current line access fee is.

  13. Elissa

DANG!!! WHY IS MY CONTRACT NOT UP?!?

  14. Priya

Can we price match at target ?

  15. Mike

This is exactly $1 more than upgrading to an iPhone on the AT&T next plan…it’s free to do that!

    • joy

You have to lease the phone through at&t. So you end up paying $20 more a month

  16. Angel

Anyone know if this is available in store? Been on hold with Best Buy to ask for over 10 minutes…

  17. Yummi

I don’t have Verizon. So if I sign up for new contract how much would it cost me for the monthly plan for 2yrs?

  18. Connie

Can we use this deal pay $1 for a 6s, then I surrender my 5s so I receive BB $200 GC then use the GC to buy a 38 mm Apple Watch making it $49 watch out OOP?

    • Angel

Finally got through to Best Buy. The guy says you have to surrender your current iPhone at the time of purchase. Assuming that means no gift card.

      • idsportsmom

I’m upgrading mine online and she said that to do the trade in you just need to bring your phone into the store and you will get your gift card then.

        • idsportsmom

Also, when it comes to the monthly AppleCare+ that they offer for $7.99 a month it’s a much better deal to just buy the phone without insurance then purchase the AppleCare+ plan directly from Apple.com at $129. Not everyone buys insurance, but I always do. It’s better to be safe than sorry!

          • Laura

I’m not sure you can do that after the fact. Usually Apple has you buy Apple Care at the time of purchase. Plus, if you do happen to use the Apple Care plan see below: It may cost more

Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary support. AppleCare+ for iPhone extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone1 and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a service fee of $79 for iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, or $99 for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, plus applicable tax.

            • idsportsmom

You have 60 days after the purchase of your phone to purchase AppleCare+ and you can purchase it directly from Apple.com. When you check out online it asks you if you want to add the AppleCare+ monthly option at $7.99 a month. I was simply suggesting that if you buy insurance (I do) instead of paying $95.88 for a year of monthly payments you are better off paying the additional $33.12 and getting an extra year of protection out of it. The one year warranty that comes with the phone only covers manufacturer defects and workmanship while the AppleCare+ covers damage that may occur after being dropped or getting it wet. The only thing that AppleCare+ doesn’t cover is theft or loss. There is a $99 service fee, but that is much cheaper than paying the $700 to replace the phone.

We went with Sprint’s Iphone Forever Plan a few months ago. You lease the phone (paid monthly on your bill) and then you have to keep insurance on it either t hrough Spring or Apple Care. We prefer Apple Care and Spring is a little bit of a pain to get them to remove their insurance because you have Apple Care but it works…Anyways So we now get a new phone whenever a new Iphone comes out without working about when we are allowed an upgrade. My husband is in IT and so staying with the latest tech is necessary for him and a bonus for me (I was getting a new phone every two years).

  20. maddy

Upgraded two lines. Much needed woohoo! Thanks!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet! YW!

  21. Misty

Thank you so much for posting this! I was just on the verizon site this morning, contemplating spending $199 to upgrade. I’m so thankful I waited and was able to get myself a new phone and my daughter one, as well. I called Best Buy to confirm that I can turn my phones in for the $200 giftcards, and they said that shouldn’t be a problem!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh cool! You are very welcome Misty!

    • Amelia

Misty did you do the upgrade online, then turn in your phones through Best Buy? I want to do this deal, but my local Best Buy is out of Verizon iPhones!

  22. Ashley

I just did this too! It was actually cheaper for me to pay the early termination fee for my current line and get the $1 phone. Through verizon the phone is 399 with a 2 yr contract! Even at Target it’s 169 or more. I called Best Buy Mobile to sign up, and I’m picking up the phone at my closest store rather than having it shipped . Then I called Verizon to talk about my options with my current line.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Wonderful!

  23. Lisa

HI, I’m failing to see how this phone is really $1 – yes the “price” is $1 BUT Verizon is doubling the price of my current $20/mo line fee to $40/mo for 2years to do the upgrade…that’s $480 additional over the two years…

    • Laura

And that’s why they do this. People get excited over the low price, and don’t see the total price.

    • Becky

Plus a $35 activation fee. So $515. Not a great deal.

      • Amanda

I’m confused because my husbands line is currently at the $40 and they said when he upgrades it will go down to $20. How is it that you all will
        Be charged the $40?

        • Becky

I believe it’s if you are under contract or not. Under contract (this promotion) is $40 line access. Not under contract is $20. I’m at $20 now because I’m not under contract. If I get this deal, they switch the line access to $40 per month for under contract. I could upgrade out of contract and pay the full price for the phone and keep the $20 line access. But if you go under contract, they up the line access to $40. So you pay $515 over two years.

        • Kristie

Right now your line fee should be $40, if you upgrade they make it sound like a deal that they will take $20 off a month but the line drops to $20 but add that to the monthly phone fee 6s would be total $47 and change and the 6s plus would be 53 and change. So in the end your bill goes up anyways.

  24. Ash

Can u get this deal if you are not a verizon customer but u are willing to switch over from another carrier and sign a 2 year contract.

  25. KimR

Just ordered mine!!! Just in time…my 4s has volume issues. Got the insurance too for a total of 9.71
Ash it asks you if you need to switch and keep same number…
Lisa your plan should stay the same…

    • Becky

It doesn’t. I asked Verizon. The line access fee goes up $20 per line.

    • lisa

When I called best buy they actually patched in a Verizon rep, who is the one that told me that if i go on contract the monthly line charge indeed goes from $20 to $40 for the 2 years for the upgrade…i did NOT see this on the best buy check out pages anywhere. the reason i knew to ask further, was i was also looking to add a line for a third phone for my son…when i tried to add the new device it showed me the monthly access line fee at $40. that’s why i started asking how come my current fee is $20 but the new line is $40..that’s when the verizon rep told me if I upgrade it would change the $20 to the $40 until the 2 year contract period is up..at which point the fee would return to $20/mo per line. Very very tricky.

  26. Karen

Just a quick question here for those who have a knowledge on upgrading phones.. My current contract with Verizon for 2 iPhone 5s will end next year and I’m currently eligible for an upgrade. If I’ll do this upgrade (only 1phone will be upgraded), will my contract be extended? I’m paying $150 for 2 phones each month and I’m looking forward to be out of contract next year.. Please let me know, thanks a bunch!

    • Michelle

      Yes for 2 more years.

  27. Ana

Went last night to Best Buy in San Antonio and switched from att to Verizon 2year. Paid $2.18 (including tax) for 2 iPhone 6s 16gb! Our new plans on Verizon turn out to be same as we were paying on att monthly. Thanks Collin!

  28. Judy Trac

Dam it used to be 200
